I'm 76 years old and I have an airstream and a Dodge truck so I was a little intimidated about going camping. Olema campground made it very friendly and safe for my adventure. The place is beautiful quiet and even though you're parked next to someone the trees make it it's secluded. The park manager and her staff are outstanding. I've been visiting this campground since the 1970's. It's still one of my favorite spots. The sites aren't particularly private, especially since a number of trees have been removed. The sites are large enough, though. There are a number of bathrooms in the campground as well as showers. They are cleaned daily but on busy weekends can get used hard. The laundry is helpful, we had been on the road for a month and enjoyed not needing to find a laundromat. They use sheep to keep the grass short, which is kinda cool. If random sheep droppings bother you, perhaps camping isn't your thing. The WiFi is fairly unfunctional, which is annoying. But, you are camping! read more

We had items stolen from our site while we were sleeping. The staff didn't care much and said we signed a waiver stating they aren't responsible. That same weekend the managers house onsite was also broken into and she went around to peoples sites asking if we knew the person. A little unsettling. Olema Campground was decent. We drove from Sacramento because some friends and I had decided we wanted to go camping out by Point Reyes. When we arrived we went to get checked in. Staff was friendly with us and they even had a post office and little shop and laundromat. We didn't use any of these services as we were only staying the night. I do think it was nice they had it though. They also had a little horseshoes area, a small playground, and a couple poles you could sling a volleyball net up onto. They had a couple fixed bathrooms that were ok in terms of cleanliness. There were porta potties closer to our campsite though and the water was not pumping to those very easily. The actually sites themselves are super close to each other but come with a little fire pit and a picnic table. I had a great time being with my friends but overall the campgrounds themselves were ok. Nothing special, nothing really bad. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it or tell anyone to avoid it. There are better campsites out there and there are worse ones too. It was nice to escape the city with some friends though. read more

Great for big groups, plus we had a couple families nearby in RVs. We had sites 1-15 and created a common area by moving the picnic tables to the middle. Some sites are exposed but the ones on the eastern Bathrooms were fairly clean. A-D and 9-15 get more shade. 1-8 are more exposed. We got reception at the campground. read more

We are at the Olema Campground. I have difficulty recommending this campground with extremely poor Verizon service with, no campground WiFi, no cell service, no cable hooks ups, so as a Verizon home Internet you "shot out of luck.". I talked to the owner/manager with the German accent. She had little sympathy and was very dismissive. I wish a company such as Sun Resorts or KOA would purchase this property and bring it up to 2026 standards. At the very lease, fix the WiFi or cell service. Then work that needs to be done is on the bathrooms and mud in the camping spots and streets. Otherwise a beautiful location and large camp spaces with many full hook ups. So much potential for this campground. I hope it works to reach its potential as it is really the only campground name in town. read more

Staff are super nice, overall a decent campground, and really good last minute availability. The bathrooms by the 300 meadow definitely needs updating, and the playground could be upgraded as well. We booked site 311, we liked that we could drive up the campsite and have our car to back into. Definitely recommend bringing a canopy in the future, it gets hot during the day (we stayed during 4th of july), and it was slightly windy. It was cold and dewy at night, and got pretty warm during the day, but very nice in the shade. We also liked that there was a dog run and that you could rent a volleyball, football, etc. from the office. read more

We went to Olema Campground last weekend for two nights as part of a group of families, and had the most HORRIFIC experience at this campground. Not only did the camp host OPENLY tell us that she dislikes having any children at the campsite, but she also spent the weekend stalking around the site and chose to racially target the one Black boy in our group. Ultimately, she followed this nine-year-old child in our group and started yelling and accusing him of throwing rocks at cars and people. This accusation was completely out of line with this child's character (who is easily one of the sweetest and most rule-abiding of our group), and was baseless and RACIST. After enduring the campsite manager's yelling and accusations for a few minutes, fortunately, parents from our group heard her inappropriate confrontation with this child and stepped in to intervene. This experience has left this nine-year-old confused and traumatized by the situation. I am so appalled by this campsite's choice of management. Hiring a rude, racist host who chose to falsely accuse a child and threaten to kick him out of the campsite is COMPLETELY inappropriate and unforgivable. Families, DO NOT come here if you want to have a relaxing time together. The host openly admits she does not want you here. Between this experience and the playground that should be condemned, your children are not safe here. For families of color, DO NOT come here and put your children at risk of running into this bigot. read more

My daughter was part of a larger group of 4th graders and their parents who recently went to Olema Campground over the weekend (two nights, two days). Overall, she had a great time, but that isn't the focus of this review. One of the boys in the group, a child of color, was targeted by the campsite manager, falsely accusing him of throwing rocks at cars and people. Her behavior was wildly inappropriate: yelling, very confrontational, and racist. Other parents witnessed this and managed to deescalate the situation, but this doesn't change the fact that it happened. My daughter, her mom, and I are all people of color, and we will not support any business that employs people who are comfortable behaving like this manager did. Is the campsite nice and pleasant? Yes, but the manager was the polar opposite, and for that reason, we are never coming back here again. read more

The most incredible, serene and stunning campground I've ever visited!!!!! Staff is super duper helpful and even went to town on my behalf to get us a sewer extension for spot A10 since the sewer was a bit further back than my hose would accommodate. The campground is absolutely peaceful and quiet at night, even on the weekends when it is packed full! That's impressive! I was a bit worried when I heard loud, drunk singing ladies next to our campsite but right at 9:10pm, there was no more noise! The manager wasn't kidding, this park takes its quiet hours seriously! The campground did a stellar job getting water puddle pump hoses out and running as soon as it rained so no one has to deal with puddles. (So nice!) There is a dog park on the property and the roads are very wheelchair friendly. Absolutely amazing time here and they accommodate school busses! (A rare find!) No issues with my 2001 toy hauler (in good condition), either. The laundry faculty is also great. Big, industrial sized dryers got my clothes dry quickly. I can't recommend this camp site enough! So pretty, so quiet! I kept extending my reservation here and just moved over a spot to J-0 because I wanted to stay longer & longer. What a beautiful place to rest and become one with nature. I felt entirely safe on this property as a handicap woman in a wheelchair. read more

Olema Campground is a gem located just over 1 hour from the Eastbay where I live. The staff is pleasant and very helpful. The price reasonable and they have all levels of camping spots; everything from tent spots to fall RV hook ups. The condition of the amenities is slightly tired, but completely adequate. A charming touch is the flock of sheep that meander accompanied throughout the park. This was my first trip to Oma campground and I will definitely return. read more

If you are looking for a safe place for your child and family to enjoy camping, I would steer clear of this place! The conduct of the manager and staff is absolutely REPREHENSIBLE. They collectively took it upon themselves to try to ruin a young black child's camping experience by making up a fictitious reason to kick him out and ban him from the campsite. Numerous witnesses saw the staff TARGET and THREATEN the child and had to intervene due to the completely APPALLING nature of their behavior. I don't have to tell you all how this could have ended for the CHILD... We have work to do to help our kiddos feel safe again, but we won't stop EXPLORING, LEARNING, and CAMPING! I have always loved this Marin county gem. For our family it's such a quick little trip away from it all, but I have to admit something has changed, and the quality has gone down. First and foremost, the playground should be condemned. It is years past being safe for children to play on this Structure. Literally rotting away it no longer "just needs to be replaced" it needs to be closed immediately. Some little one is gonna get hurt. I truly hope they see this and can invest the two to $3000. It would take to put a fresh and safe play structure for children to play. So many kids come to this campground and from personal experience I know my kids were extremely saddened that it was no longer acceptable for them to play on. Moving along. Less of a negative review but more of a missed opportunity is to freshen up the little general store. So many other campgrounds are doing great things with their general stores like Lawson's Landing or Casini that Olema should follow suit. Get some ice! Fortunately, we have a camper and generally request a full plug-in. But for campers, relying on tents and coolers, there should be ice available for purchase. I truly hope that the owners of this campground see this review not as negative, but as opportunities to really improve on a really special campground here in Marin County. If you are looking for a pastural 40 acre grass covered RV park, with fire wood, propane, laundromat, septic pump off service and free WiFi, you should consider Olema Campground. The management has a dozen employees making service both immediate and polite. My wife and I been camping at Olema for over 10 years and this year staying for three weeks. We were there on a holiday weekend and it was tough. There is one bathroom that serves 82 tent campsites (all the 200, 300, and 400 sites) and they only clean it once a day at 10am-ish. We are all scarred by the things we saw. Probably safe if you're in an RV with your own bathroom, otherwise I would look elsewhere. read more

We enjoyed this campground. During the week it is very peaceful. Less than a mile from Point Reyes national seashore. Bathrooms old but clean. Tent areas are unusual. You park on the grass next to your tent and picnic table. If all the campsites are full there would be hundreds of people in one bathroom. RV sites are nice. read more

Haven't been back since before the pandemic. I was making lots of trips yearly (often times big groups). I'm a nature lover so I always emphasized cleaning up and letting nature be nature. This year we finally decided to go back and the lady on the phone told me I couldn't make a reservation because my account had been banned. This was a shock to me. I had never had any problems with Olema and if there were, they never made me aware of them to either fix it or bring to my attention. I asked the lady follow up questions as to why that happened and trying to investigate. She told me that the last manager is the one that did it and that he didn't leave any notes written as to why. She herself told me this was weird as all the people that HAVE been banned have reasons why but my account didn't. The reason why I'm giving this a 1 star is because even though they acknowledged this situation was weird, I asked her to talk to the (new) manager to get to the bottom of this and she told me he was gone for the day. I asked her to leave a message and my info down for a call back when he would be back since she told me she didn't know when he was coming back, and I never received any call backs or follow ups. This review hurts if I'm being honest. Olema was the place I've been going to since middle school when I first started my backpacking journeys. read more

The best part of this place is the location. The owners really haven't done much of anything to this place since I was here several years ago. While it's not roughing it, the facilities are pretty rough. The worst part was the mud in the bathrooms. It doesn't help that they excessively water the roads every morning. I get keeping down the dust, but they go a bit overboard and get the road muddy. This gets tracked into the bathrooms of course. If they could at least pour asphalt around the bathrooms, it might help. The store still has a mask mandate which is kind of strange. The store is also fairly limited, but it has some basic stuff. I didn't see any security at night and the office closes at 5pm. The location is amazing. Watching the fog spill over the mountains is perfect. read more

We have been RV camping with our dogs at this campground for 4 years. We like the serenity, the weather. Visiting beaches, the town. Walking around the campground. Fun to watch all of the sheep. The staff is friendly and accommodating. They keep the grounds mowed, bathrooms are clean, the dirt roads are watered down. The cost of renting a space is reasonable. They have a playground for kids, a small fenced dog park area. Volley ball, can play horse shoe toss, can ride around on electric scooters, kids can ride their bikes, can ride their "ride on" toys around the campground. There's a huge grassy area for tent campers, all through the campground. We enjoy a campfire pit, relaxing, looking at the sky, stargazing. (Telescope) we've had some great times here. Looking forward to visiting again soon. read more

I've never booked a campsite and used it for 3 hours and rather drive home. This is one of the worst campgrounds we have been to. 1. There is no WiFi even when we were near the office. I know with camping your supposed to disconnect but it's also inconvenient since we can google things nearby. 2. There are no amenities. No pool, gift shop was closed before 5 pm and didn't have much anyways. Don't even get me started about the playground which was old and extremely limited. 3. Location. From the campsite you could see the back of a church and nearby there was a small market/restaurant or you could drive towards Inverness to the lighthouse which is about 20 miles away. There is not much around town that could not be done as a day trip. 3. Bathroom and overall appearance needed a refresh. It was no better than a state campground which is 1/2 the price. The grass had not been mowed and was quite high and rocks were everywhere making it hard for kids to scooter around. 4. Proximity to the next rv. You're literally next to the neighbor with 1 ft space max 2 ft space in between. Depending on how your sliding door open on your rig you could be facing doors or not. I have never been so close to another rv before in my life. This is the number one reason I would not recommend this place. It's like parking in a parking lot cramming people together like a sardine. I came with high hopes as my friend who had recommended this place said she had come several times. I will not be taking any recommendations from her moving forward. I wish I could get a refund on my stay as after 3 hours of frustration and nothing to do we left. With no reception the only option was to go home. Don't come here unless you like to suffer. You're better off at a state campground or sleeping on the side of the road. read more

Someone in our group her say children should be seen but not heard. Her other two staff members were very nice and pleasant. this is a very spacious campground with hookups. The Wi-Fi is not very strong. You cannot really stream videos. They only have two areas for bathrooms and toilets. They are not clean and the shower heads are broken and dangle the water is hot. As other reviews state, there is no staff after 5 pm, and we arrived at 5:30, so I drove to Point Reyes Station 2 miles away to buy firewood and food. It is a great location for going to do all the things that Point Reyes has to offer. We preferred to use the bath house near the entrance because the showers are private and not used as much. They were functional, have lots of hot water, and pretty clean, although by the end of the day the floors naturally get dirty with traffic. If you tent camp, make sure to get a spot along the edge near the creek so that you have some tree shade, sites 8 through 12 are really nice, but the ones near the center of the field have no shade or privacy. read more

A favorite among campgrounds. You could not ask for a better location with Bear Valley within walking distance and Point Reyes Station for food, drink, and seaside culture. Camp sites are spread out for good social distancing and staff is mindful about covid precautions and cleaning. I was there during the Woodward fire. Management was on top of updates and communications. Luckily, there was never an evacuation order. The normal marine layer came in early morning, but that cleared up quickly and by afternoons the skies were blue and the air fresh to breath. (better than anywhere else in CA) Campers, please be mindful of the campsite policies. They're there to keep awesome private one-of-a-kind campgrounds like Olema open and available for us all. Be respectful to staff members that are upholding the camp rules or cancellation policies. No one deserves abuse at their workplace simply because you feel you are the exception. I witnessed multiple incidences of straight up bullying and harassment towards workers. The only positive was that I was incredibly impressed with the staff and management's calm responses. Each of us has a different perspective when viewing a restaurant, business or campground. To the person who complained about pricing and services... my experience after coming from Wright's Beach (Bodega Bay)...where I was 9 feet from campers on either side, no water, no power, no services for the same price as here. Stayed here two nights during the unseasonably warm February 9th 2018 for a mid-winter getaway. I was looking for some sunshine, warm temps and the ocean surf ... luckily i found it along the Sonoma Coast and Point Reyes. Packed the van with food, wine, some books...and a full tank of diesel... The Campground: An organized operation Friendly check-in person (Gretta?) Neat grounds Quiet Clean showers Close to Point Reyes Station All-in-all a comfortable spot to plug-in and use as a base of operations to explore places like this during the day. The good part is that it can be a pleasant campground to stay at. We go back every year in spite of the few drawbacks. First, the things we like: The sites are decent sized. It's close to town if you need something. The post office is at the campground and right next to a laundry mat. They have some full hook-ups available and some partial hookups (without sewer). There is a group sink next to the bathrooms good for tent campers to use for dishes and it actually has hot water. Unless there is a large group of kids camping there, the bathrooms are clean and maintained. They run a water truck around the grounds regularly to keep the dust down. There are fire pits at each campsite and they sell wood at the camp store. Now the things I don't like: There is a dump station on site but they now charge $20 to use. I don't have a huge problem with paying to dump but when we made our reservations last year the dump was included in the price and you pay in full when you make your reservation. So, when I made my reservation, the understanding was that dump was included in the price and then when we get there we were told after the fact that they want more money for the originally agreed upon services. Seems kinda like a dishonest business practice to me. When I asked about this at the office s young woman there gave me a lecture on how much their prices have increased and how I must not care about supporting small businesses. Two years in a row while we were there either the power or the water or both at once were shut off for an extended period of time. Sometimes we got warnings & other times not. They used to have ice available but this time apparently their freezer was broken. Some of the trees need to have the dead branches trimmed and we have actually had them fall close to us in the middle of the night. In summary, we like it there and continue to return there is room for improvement. read more

The proprietor is hostile toward cyclists. When I arrived to check in, rather than greeting me, she asked me why cyclists don't ride in the bicycle lanes on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. I politely explained that I always ride in those bike lanes, as do most cyclists that I've encountered, and so I can't speak for those who don't. This woman *rolled her eyes at me,* insinuated that I was lying, and was straight rude to me for the rest of my check-in. Although I selected what I thought would be a quiet site, we were squeezed between a Boy Scout troop who whooped and hollered at each other into the wee hours and a mentally unwell woman who was up all night packing, unpacking, and repacking her things. Between these noises and the eruptions of a nearby screaming infant throughout the night, I barely slept. The "campground" itself is just a field with a mysterious mound of dirt in the middle. Our site featured a large dead tree that could kill someone if it fell over and stinging nettles along the "creek," which appears to be a wastewater channel. My friends awoke to a mole attempting to surface under their tent. The bathrooms were nasty, with mud and wet toilet paper all over the floors, rusted partitions, and stall doors that would not lock. All this for $58/night for four cyclists! Pro tip: If you are a cyclist, just keep riding to Samuel P. Taylor State Park. The sites are nestled among the redwoods and cost $7/night per cyclist. Best of all, the campground hosts are welcoming and eager to help. read more

You would think that they would have someone constantly cleaning, especially when they claim the campground is full. We have been camping at this campground for over 30 years and it has mostly remained the same. Some people have given bad reviews without understanding the dynamics of what has actually happened here. Almost every year this campground floods, literally everything is under water. This has been an extreme financial burden and has prevented upgrades and made maintenance a nightmare. And, dealing with codes and building departments in Marin is a real joy I'm sure. Our family is just grateful that they still exist! It is still a great place to camp and very peaceful, so many great hiking opportunities and close to Pt. Reyes where there are shops and restaurants. For all of you people who bitch and complain because everything here is not shiny and new, you just aren't getting the big picture. It would be great if you could get past some of the negativity and just come here and enjoy time with family and friends. Also to consider, this place is priced as is. If it where brought up to some of your standards it would be triple the price. We love Olema Campground and will continue to visit several times a year as we have always done. read more

2 1/2 stars if I could. Potentially a very nice campground as some of the spaces were far apart. Great location, close to many nice Nor Cal areas! This campground has many pull-in/head-in sites, so you end up door to door with campers you may not want to face. And they have very few sewer hookups. Dog friendly is a plus. Beware as this campground can be overrun with youth groups of up to 150 kids spread out in the tent areas! Don't they have kids group camps they can go to? Not that families should not camp here but the NOISE level was ridiculous. 15 kids in the bathrooms at a time......the campground had an understandably hard time keeping up with the muddy mess in them to be sure. yuck. Between the many, many screeching crows every morning, crying babies, kids racing bikes thru my campsite.......just ugh. Almost zero wireless. You could get cell back by the cleared/tent area for those concerned. The maintenance and yard workers were super friendly and most helpful!! Wish I could say the same for both female office workers...... If you are looking to actually get away for some peace and outside quiet, this may not be your place unless you go off season with no youth groups staying here. Saw someone commented that it's the Costco of camping LOL. It's quite accurate! It's right next to the small town of Olema. Easy to find and easy to access. They have the smallest and the most crowded campground. Once you enter you feel like you entered a zoo. You will go pass the RV site which is packed. And come to a field full of tents and people and dogs and kids. You will find your tiny little site and you will have to be very careful not to set up your tent on your neighbor's site. You will have to be super quiet at night since people are so crowded and they could hear anything you whispered and you could hear other people snoring at night. We accidentally left a bag of mini KitKat out at night and a family of raccoons came and ate all 30 of them. They made. Lots of noises and kept us up all night. Good things are that they have nice restrooms. They even have hot water for shower. They have WiFi if you go close to the office but it's far from the tent sites. Bad thing is you don't feel quite like camping there. read more

Am seeing a lot a comments about quiet hours on here and can see that happen. We were here for 3 nights in April and it was pretty chill. Maybe 2/3 full and folks were pretty quiet. It may have helped that it was crazy windy while we were here so people did not hang around the campfires. Location is awesome. Lots of trail, places to bike, or go kayaking on the bay. Restrooms were clean though maybe a little worn. RV hookups worked just fine. We ended up getting one without sewer and lines to the dump station was long on the way out Sunday morning. We were told that because our game of "charades" went past the ten o'clock "quiet time" we weren't invited back. Very very weird!!! We reserved over 30 camping spots on a Saturday night!
