I am giving this place 3 stars mostly because it's such a cute little local bbq joint. I do not love chains and try not to eat at any, especially when I travel. This place was so cute. It's outdoor seating (which is the only seating) has a good ambiance. Lots of seating, clean bathrooms, and cute decor including light strands draped overhead. The food was okay. My son got the chicken and it had a good bit of decent sauce on it. It was a little dry but still good. The sides aren't fresh and they were out a few but I like that they even have dirty rice as an option, and it was pretty good. I for the chopped beef sandwich and it was good. Plenty of brisket and sauce with onions and pickles like I'd expect. Can beverages and decent burgers for a little place on the highway. I would stop here again, I'd like to try the ribs. read more

Husband and I love their breakfast tacos! That's really all I've had here. Our favorite is a simple bacon, sausage, egg, and cheese. Make sure you get their salsa! One taco is very filling and about $4 each. They do have a debit card minimum of $15 I think and so we try to always pay cash. It's best to call it in and pick up so you don't have to wait around for them to make it from scratch. I've looked their menu and would love to try lunch and/or dinner here sometime. read more

Delicious. The breakfast tacos are very filling. I had one taco and it lasted me until dinner time. The bacon is the best bacon in Texas ! I'm not exaggerating it was so good. FYI the $2 sides are miniature. We were not happy about that when we got a $2 side of beans that contained 30 beans. I have eaten quite a bit of bbq and have found that buying by the pound is often a better bargain, so I went with that philosophy at Fities. My husband and I wanted to try the brisket and sausage, however, they were out of sausage, so we went with a pound of brisket and a side of beans. The brisket was good, the bbq sauce was great, the beans were mediocre. Our daughter ordered Lucy's Special, a lean brisket sandwich and she enjoyed it, after she scraped the onions off. She got french fries for her side and they were pretty good. If we come back, we will order the sandwich combos, as they seem to be a much better deal. read more

It takes some tricky driving from my home over to Fittie's but I would rather move than miss going there. People, I want to tell you this man serves REAL fries. So far, I have eaten a few of their hamburgers and cheeseburgers but today I had the Lucy Special Sandwich. It is the leanest, most tender sliced brisket with onions, pickles and sauce or leave off whichever. I don't really care for peach cobbler BUT I will be getting more helpings from there! Fittie's is closed Sunday afternoons and Mondays and I haven't gotten up early enough to enjoy their breakfast treats. But, at least once a week, I'm there picking up their sandwich combo. I would prefer to give no stars. I ordered brisket plate w/2 sides. Brisket was swimming in bbq sauce. My grandma always said the places that do this are trying to hide the quality or flavor of meat. I agree. Beef was tough. Sides: beans I could not eat, they are ranch style yet say pinto on menu. Flavor was terrible. The green beans however were very good and I would have been happier if I'd have ordered a green bean plate instead of brisket. My friend ordered chopped beef and only ate a portion just because she was hungry. The chopped beef was more like pulverized beef. I'm not sure how this place got the high ratings... They must have a large family who get to eat for free. Their roadside picnic area gets 5 stars however. I was talking to a friend about a BBQ spot down the road from Fitties and he said that he preferred Fitties. Well, I had to check this place out! Once I arrived, I realized that I had been here before 3 years ago but I failed to write a review. I ordered ribs, beef brisket and sausage with side orders of dirty rice and green beans. Above all, I thought the dirty rice was great. The meats had BBQ sauce poured over them which hid the true flavor of the meat and rubs on the ribs and brisket. I didn't care much for the seasoning on the ribs and the brisket didn't have that bark that I'm accustomed to. Although Fitties accept credit cards, there is a minimum purchase of $15. My 3-meat order was less than $15 so I ordered a beef brisket plate to go with the sauce on side which allowed me to appreciate the beef brisket more. The sides were cole slaw and pinto beans. The beans were mundane but the cole slaw was very nice and not swimming in mayonnaise. If I decide to patronize Fitties again, I'll first stop by my bank's ATM and get cash. read more

I took the family to the Dinosaur Park and was looking for a place to eat around the area. Saw the reviews for this place and got excited. Finally decided to go there even when some locals recommend a few other places. Then the disappointment started. The menu was a bit confusing, but we figured it out. The girl at the window was not friendly and clueless. I asked what the dirty rice was and she had to run back and ask. I didn't see this but my wife tells me even the person that seemed to be the cook ( a black man) seemed bothered/annoyed by the question. My wife and I opted for the 3 meat meal and got ribs, brisket and sausage. For sides I got potatoes and coleslaw. Wife got potatoes and beans. The order took longer than expected given we were the only customers. FOOD: Cheap and you get a lot. That said, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! The sausage and ribs were OK. The sides and the BBC sauce were good, but they should tell you that they plan to smother your meat with sauce. Wife didn't like that and it's usually not a good sign. Then came the brisket. Man it was the toughest, most chewy meat I had ever had from a restaurant. I asked for moist, wife asked for lean. Both were absolutely terrible. If you are selling food I think that as the cook you should at least try it before you serve it. For that reason I can't give this place more than a 1 star. The service merits a big negotiate score. We were there about 20-30min. Again, the ONLY customers there and not once did anyone come and asked if we were doing OK or needed anything else. I was going to complain but given the unfriendly staff, my wife discouraged me. But I still have leftovers in the fridge if the owner or cook think I'm making this up and need me to bring it to them. Blink, and you may have passed a small, hidden barbeque joint on your way into Austin. A family owned business named Fitties. On Thanksgiving Eve, their family unknowingly saved our family during a medical crisis. I would like to extend my appreciation to J.O. and his brother Gary. The Friday before Thanksgiving, my Brother-In-Law, Jack, was hospitalized. Without going into details, it was serious enough to draw all of his grown sons and daughters, all of his brothers and sisters and of course their own spouses and kids. State lines were crossed. Emergency leave was granted from the Army. The waiting room was filled at the ICU. Nobody thought about Thanksgiving being missed. All thoughts and prayers were with Jack wondering if he would ever come out of his coma. Wednesday morning was the first positive news, Jack could move his arms. With this progress, I began looking at the state of all the family visiting. Camping out in the waiting room for days with only fast food, we now wished we were able to have the time to get groceries and cook a nice meal for everyone. I remember seeing a sign at Fitties that they offered Thanksgiving dinners. I drove there Wednesday evening expecting to be told that, rightfully so, they had completed all their orders and could not purchase any more inventory. But no, they said I could still place my order for tomorrow. The family at the hospital in Austin called Thursday morning and said that everyone was coming, all 17. We weren't sure if the meal we ordered would feed all of them. 3 leaves were inserted into the table and we hoped for the best. And what a feast it was! Everyone could smell the smoked turkey as they got out of their cars. I don't know how, but we did not run out of any potatoes, corn, dressing, turkey, rolls or pecan pie. Everyone was fed and thanked us for saving Thanksgiving. My wife and I told them that the meal itself could not have been made without Fitties fitting us in at the last moment. All of our spirits were lifted that day. Update on Jack: After opening his eyes in ICU, they transferred him to PCU, then finally to Texas Neuro Rehab. His first day of therapy at Texas Neuro Rehab allowed him to speak for the first time. The staff called our family and told us what his first words were. "I am blessed". read more

Forget waiting 2+ hours for the BBQ places in Austin and drive straight to Fitties. This place has the best BBQ I have tried in Texas. Also, the owner may be the nicest person I've ever met! My boyfriend and I stopped here on our drive to Houston because the breakfast tacos had great reviews. Get the MARTY and no breakfast taco will ever suffice for you again. It's a humongous taco filled with potato, egg, cheese, bacon, brisket and BBQ sauce. And only $2.39! I also made my own with chorizo and egg but had to save this for lunch. On our way home to Austin we stopped by for some BBQ dinner. We got a portion of every meat in order to give the BBQ a proper evaluation. The pork ribs and BBQ sauce are the best I've ever had, hands down. I loved the chicken and sausage as well. We had leftovers for days because the portions are such a good price. While we waited for our food the owner let us sample his beans and rice, the peach cobbler, and the bread pudding. Like I said, he is the nicest man and his BBQ should be shared with the world. When we visited Texas, my friends and I agreed the only things we were allowed to consume would be booze, red bull, ibuprofen, and BBQ. The first three were covered in the first 12 hours but on our ride from Austin to Houston we needed to find some real Texas BBQ. We found Fitties on Yelp and it looked to be exactly what we were looking for. This place did not disappoint. It is essentially just a walk up window with a smoker out back. They have breakfast food and BBQ. I couldn't decide so I got both. I ordered a breakfast burrito and the brisket meal. The breakfast burrito was tasty but nothing special. It didn't have the jalapenos that I ordered but that's okay. The brisket was absolutely perfect. It was also deceivingly more food than I could handle. I felt like I was eating for a straight 30 minutes and the pile of meat never got smaller. I had it again for dinner and it was just as amazing the second time. My only complaint was they were out of a lot of things and struggled to get the orders correct. My order was given to another group of people, and they didn't have any ribs which was unfortunate. My boyfriend's boss has a saying that if it looks like a shack and has a BBQ sign on it, you best stop. So, on our way from Houston to Austin we got hungry, saw fitties, and stop we did! We each got the brisket plate with beans and potato salad. It's a lot of food! I probably finished about half of my brisket. The sauce is tangy and sweet, with just a hint of spicy. I haven't eaten a lot of BBQ in my life so it's hard for me to compare, but I know delicious when I taste it! The beans were especially good. The only negative for me was the potato salad which looked like it got scooped out of a tub of mayo and then had some potato bits thrown in as an afterthought. Also, they use styrofoam. (Toto - I don't think we're in San Francisco anymore!) The guy at the counter was ridiculously nice and even gave us a free taste of bread pudding. (I don't like bread pudding so I'm unqualified to say whether it was good or not.) There are picnic tables outside to sit and eat, although be warned they have cats who rub against your legs, so not for those with pet allergies. My wife and I recently stopped here for breakfast tacos on the way home from a weekend stay at Hyatt Lost Pines Resort. I had read about Fitties on Yelp* and understood they had good tacos and barbeque. I asked the guy at the window what the barbeque taco was that people were raving about on Yelp*. J.O. introduced himself and said it is called the "Marty". He said it has potato, brisket, bacon and cheese, and that I would love it. Love it I did; and so did my non-barbeque loving wife! Normally I am a barbacoa or eggs and bacon guy, but these were the best breakfast tacos I've had and you have to try one. They are quite large so one is enough for a meal. The aroma of the barbeque coming from the genuine pit in the back was seductive; so I ordered ribs, brisket and sausage to go. Later that night I warmed it up and the sausage was some of the best I've ever had; with the sauce complimenting the meat nicely. The ribs were also good, tender and juicy with a nice sear. The brisket was also good, but since I ate it cold on a sandwich I cannot evaluate it fairly here. I will definitely be stopping by Fitties from now on during trips between Houston and Austin/beyond. read more
