I am a patient with Dr. Canady, and have actually had a very positive experience with her. She is professional, knowledgable, courteous, and has given me very useful advice regarding my allergies. This review is for the office as a whole.
I began in the fall of 2015 to try and set up allergy shots with them, but there was a great deal of trouble because I had already been doing shots where I used to live (in Los Angeles), and it turns out that transferring shots to a different practice out of state is a monumental nightmare due to insurance issues. These difficulties were not really the fault of the Fishman Allergy office.
However, even after I made the decision to re-do allergy tests with them and let them make their own serum, things were a disaster from the very beginning. When I did the tests in November 2015, I told them I wanted to set up allergy shots at their MD office once every week (that office is only open on wednesdays). For weeks I heard nothing, and when I followed up with them in early December 2015, they had still done nothing about making the serum. This was problematic because I would be traveling for the rest of December, so they told me they would make the serum in December, and I could begin shots when I returned to town in January. OK, fine. Right?
WRONG. I returned in January, called them to find out if my serum was ready, and I was told that they needed to check and they would call me back. Several days later, still nothing. I called them again, and they left another message for a nurse to call me back about my serum. A couple days later, nothing. So I called again. And again, they transferred me to the black hole that they call the "nurse's prescription line" and I left a message. No call back. I could keep going, because this went on for WEEKS. I got so fed up that when I called back a few times later, I told the receptionist that I didn't want to be put on hold and I didn't want to be transferred to the damn nurse's station because they never call me back. She got very defensive, and insisted that the nurse would call me back if I left a message, to which I replied that I had done that LITERALLY A DOZEN TIMES and no one had ever called me back. So she took down my information, and promised that she would give it herself to the nurse and that they would call me back. After going round with her several times, she swore someone would call me back and that there was no one available to check on my serum right now. So I said "OK", and she hung up. I will let you, the reader, guess whether anyone called me back.
If you answered "No", you are absolutely correct. I called back....... AGAIN. I asked whether my serum had been made, and they immediately transferred me to the nurse's station, where no one picked up. So I called back immediately afterward and said that no one was answering my question and no one was returning my calls, and I begged the receptionist to not transfer me to the nurse's station. (By this point it is already February 2016). The receptionist was rude and insisted that if I left a message that someone would call me back. **insert sounds of hair being torn directly from scalp** I explained, as patiently as I could, that that experiment had already been done a dozen times, and the result was: No, no one calls back. As she got more defensive, I remained insistent and did everything I could to keep her on the phone. Several times, she hung up on me and I simply called right back, insisting that someone check to see if my serum existed. Later that afternoon, after I had pestered them to the breaking point, a nurse finally called me back and told me that they didn't know I wanted serum made..... now that I had requested it, they would put in the order to make some serum, but it would take a couple weeks before they could make it. IT TOOK EVERY OUNCE OF RESTRAINT I HAVE TO STOP FROM STABBING MYSELF IN THE EYE WITH A HOT KNIFE.
Two weeks later, they called to tell me my serum had been made (this was virtually the first call I have ever received from their office). So, I asked them to transfer my serum to the Chevy Chase office. They dragged their feet on this, too, and to get an idea what that was like, just re-read the preceding two paragraphs. FINALLY, my serum was transferred and I went to my first appointment, and when the nurse came in, she was puzzled. The reason she was puzzled was that THE CHEVY CHASE OFFICE WAS ABOUT TO CLOSE IN TWO WEEKS. So, there was no way I could do my injections there. The nurse was very nice, and suggested a nearby place to transfer my serum. Today, I called to have them transfer my serum to this location, AND THEY TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T, I WOULD HAVE TO PICK UP THE SERUM AND TRANSFER IT MYSELF.
The laziness, unprofessionalism, and gross incompetence of the people at this office is mind-boggling. My suggestion to Dr. Canady is to set up her own practice and hire a staff that actually does something, because she is on a sinking ship. read more
