My review is heavily based on my experience with the Pro Shop at Fishkill Bowl, though my interactions with the bowling alley staff have been 95% ultra positive. The bowling alley is usually pretty tame, lanes are easy to bowl on. For a local house, it usually boils down to the patrons for me, and I find that the crowd here is usually less distracting than at other alleys in the area. Usually haha. At the very least, I almost never get nasty looks here when I ask people to stop picking up my bowling balls, unlike at some other bowling alleys -_- Paterno's Pro Shop is where it's at! I've been to a couple of pro shops both local and out of state, but my experiences have been average at best. I'm not young, but I was definitely new to bowling, and I feel like I've been absolutely traumatized and discouraged to bowl by other pro shops. I feel like the local pro shop is vital in keeping the sport alive for new and young and upcoming bowlers. If you aren't welcoming to new folks, the sport will die, and it will be your fault. As soon as I stepped into Paterno's, the folks in the shop made me feel at ease. Everyone greeted me with a smile, and there was zero pressure to talk about making a purchase. In fact, the owner Phil advised against me purchasing a new ball until I figured out my style more. Phil spent so much time with me to try to help me get better at the game, without pressuring me to buy any fancy new, expensive gear. Instead of having me purchase a new ball, he worked with me to re-drill my existing ball at the time (for much, much cheaper) to better fit my hand and throw style. He passed on an easy sale so that I could salvage a ball I'd already spent $$$ on! Now I've been coming to this shop for a few months now and have bought balls for both myself and my mom from them. Phil and crew are so friendly and welcoming, and are always happy to make time to chit chat and give tips. This is the Pro Shop experience I'd heard so much about from my tournament-bowler friends... and this is where I send all my friends and anyone I meet who is looking for a local pro shop! read more

Everything you would expect from an ol'school bowling alley! We got there when they opened and they quickly filled up with their Sunday regulars! Staff was courteous and explained the pricing, which is very fair and competitively priced. For the little kids they have bumpers and the ramp to make the game move along. We'll definitely be back! I have been bowling here for 25 years and since coming under new ownership, every aspect of the alley has gone downhill. It is not an entertainment center like others in the area as it offers very little aside from actual bowling. Despite this, they do not prioritize league bowlers. Instead, management goes out of its way to argue with patrons both online and in person. Lanes are often broken, requiring bowlers to change pairs and "ball returns" that are not easy solutions are common. The alley is unaccommodating to pre or post bowling for league bowlers and upper level management/ownership are not present at all. read more

I've been bowling here for years, but ever since the new owners took over, the place has completely gone downhill. They hired Melinda as the manager, and it's clear she's more interested in being a dictator than actually managing. I've bowled in two leagues here, and we've always been able to celebrate birthdays with a small cake or cupcakes from outside, but when I brought in a small 10" round cake (no drinks, since we always buy food and drinks from the alley), I was told to take it outside within two minutes of placing it on the table. When I calmly pointed out that neither the website nor the Facebook page listed any rules against bringing in a cake, Melinda flipped out and started yelling at me--super professional, right? As if that wasn't bad enough, she threatened to call the police. Sure enough, the police showed up, and Melinda asked them to trespass me and my kids from the premises. This kind of unprofessionalism is unacceptable, and it's clear this place no longer values its customers. I won't be returning, and I strongly suggest others think twice before coming here. I highly suggest going to Spins as it's more family oriented and welcoming. read more

I recently got back into bowling and this is my local alley. Really do like these lanes. It is a very traditional, no frills bowling alley unlike the chains (which i love). I reminds me of the alleys I would frequent 25 years ago. The staff and pro shop operator are very friendly and helpful. And the prices are great. I love that they still charge per game rather then per hour which helps keep the cost down. For the alley, staff and pro shop I would give this a 4 5 star review. My only complaint is the food/resturant. My wife, daughter, brother in law, his wife and myself have started bowling together Thursday nights. Our goal was to come, get a couple of lanes, bowling, get some food for dinner.. then head home to put my 3 yr old to bed. We'll that doesn't quite work here. We went and ordered our food and asked how long. The girl there told us to come back in 20 minutes. So we bowled a full game (about 30min) and cam back. Not only was our food not ready, she had not even started half of the order. We went back to our lanes and my wife stayed behind to wait for the food. 45min later she motioned that our food was finally ready. Mind you it wasn't a complicated order. 4 fries, 3 cheeseburgers (two texas style) chicken tenders and a grilled cheese. Not only did the food take forever, but half of the food was cold by the time we got it and the three burgers orders were wrong. The 2 texas burgers were basically cheeseburgers with BBQ sauce (no additional toppings because she said they were out..so tell us that and don't change us the extra money for the specialty burger) and my bacon cheese burger had no bacon. My 3yr old was having tantrum by thisbpoint because of how hungry she was. So don't plan on grabbing a bite to eat here. Eat before or after. Even my wife trying to get a pretzel the last time we went took 20 minutes. We still go on Thursday night because you can't beat the price, but now I grab some food on my way there after work and my wife packs a small chicken nugget dinner and some snacks for my daughter to eat there. I know this is against their policy, but we are doing what we have to. We will be happy to patronize the kitchen there as soon as they figure out how provide the food that was ordered in a timely fashion. Food service 1 star read more

Was visiting family in the area and was recommended this bowling alley. At first, we had so much fun! Then the cosmic bowling started, unexpectedly (we hadn't been here before)- we heard an announcement if you got a strike with a red pin, you win something. And we got a strike with a red pin! We were so excited and went to tell an employee who informed us it did not count since they did not watch. First of all, the announcement was not loud enough to hear that detail if that is correct. Second, we had a time stamped video clearly showing it. The employee didn't really seem to care. The night started so fun, but ended in disappointment. Even if the rules were an employee had to witness, the employees could've been nicer about it. Since we don't live in the area, we probably won't be back. read more

Last night I witnessed poor management at its finest. The police was called to remove a man, his wife and children for bringing in a cake to celebrate his mother's birthday. Yes tax payers money was used because of a cake. I read a review left by the man as well as a response from the owner. The man's account was on point. The owner was not even there to witness what happened, therefore guessing the response was from staff and they lied! The bartender (so called future manager) was rude, nasty and yelling at him in front of league players and his young children. Contrary to "owners" response, the man was not rude to the employees. Not even to the one yelling at him. Just last week there were two birthdays celebrated so why was this man not allowed? He stated he looked on website and there was nothing posted there about bringing a cake. The way the employee handled it was extremely unprofessional. I have been bowling on leagues here for quite some time and lately it's disappointing. Believe me most league bowlers last night would agree. It's been a very long time since I went bowling. Pin setting machines were a big selling feature, then. Bowling alleys had a different feeling. It's gone high-tech with automatic scoring, video games, and a more family oriented atmosphere. This place seems very nice, the staff is very pleasant, it's clean, comfortable and fun. A group of friends and myself came here with the intention of not completely embarrassing ourselves by hurling gutter ball after gutter ball. The place was packed on that particular night, but we got our lane a tossed a few games. While no one in the group would rank as a professional by any stretch, we did have a good time. Fueled by draft beer, we continually poked fun at one another's bowling shortcomings. We bring our summer camp kids each season for a bowling experience. Fishkill Bowl is definitely a " total quality" business. It is spotless, the workers are pleasant and highly attentive, and are one step ahead, anticipating the needs of 35 kids and 10 adults. They set up a great buffet area for our pizza lunch ( at other places we lug the pizzas, drinks, etc ourselves from the concession stand). The bathrooms are clean !!! And even have changing tables! They clearly care about their customers and the quality experience they are offering :)!!!!!!! read more

Welcome to the Fishbowl. It would make a great name for a trendy new seafood restuarant. Instead, this place is a your typical small town, no frills bowling alley. It has 40 lanes (some work, some don't, some have pin machines that knock down pins even though you roll a gutter bowl). The display screens that update your score are confusing and glitchy. The food and beer options are definitely lacking. For beer, it is either stale ale or lite beer (neither one is good). For food, there is cheese pizza ($12/ medium pie) and whatever is available at the vending machines. You might want to sneak in your own food. It is $4/game on weekends and bowling shoe rentals are $2.25 (but I have my own pair). Despite all the misgivings, you can still have a lot of fun here if you are coming to relax for a couple hours with the right group of people. read more

The customer service is amazing, the Pro Mr. Phil Paterno Sr. is an amazing man who is Truly a pleasure to speak with and the lanes are well maintained. My girlfriend and I purchased our first bowling balls from him this weekend and he was more than helpful. Not only did he help me select the perfect ball or me but he walked out and gave me about 30 minutes of his time to give me tips as well as to my girlfriend. Took my 5 year old son and his cousin the day after xmas for a little morning bowl. We were the only ones in the place. The scoring is automated and easy to use and the lanes are great. The only reason I am deduction a star is I found the cashier to be a bit grumpy...other than that a fine place to bowl! read more

I took the kids I babysit for here yesterday early afternoon. I was COMPLETELY DISGUSTED with this place. There was no one there. I was greeted by this cranky lady at the front desk who was rude and short with me. We then began to bowl. For some reason our lane kept getting stuck and the man who fixes the bowling machine kept getting angry with us because he had to keep getting up to fix it. At one point the bowl got stuck in the middle of the alley which really got him mad because he actually came up to me and yelled at me saying "you know you really got help the kids throw the ball!" Uhhh rude. For the rest of the time I sat there feeling completely uncomfortable. When the ball got stuck once again in the lane, the man never came to get the ball for us (oh by the way you're only allowed to have one ball if you bring in children- weird) so I had to go out onto the slippery alley and get the ball myself. Of course when this happened the cranky lady behind the desk got on her loud speaker and actually started yelling at me for going into the lane to get the ball. Well I mean what else was I going to do?? And then the machine man who never got up to get the ball for us started to yell too. So disgusting! Never ever going back read more
