The bowling alley is usually pretty tame, lanes are easy to bowl on. For a local house, it usually boils down to the patrons for me, and I find that the crowd here is usually less distracting than at other alleys in the area. Usually haha. At the very least, I almost never get nasty looks here when I ask people to stop picking up my bowling balls, unlike at some other bowling alleys -_- Paterno's Pro Shop is where it's at! I've been to a couple of pro shops both local and out of state, but my experiences have been average at best. I'm not young, but I was definitely new to bowling, and I feel like I've been absolutely traumatized and discouraged to bowl by other pro shops. I feel like the local pro shop is vital in keeping the sport alive for new and young and upcoming bowlers. If you aren't welcoming to new folks, the sport will die, and it will be your fault. As soon as I stepped into Paterno's, the folks in the shop made me feel at ease. Everyone greeted me with a smile, and there was zero pressure to talk about making a purchase. In fact, the owner Phil advised against me purchasing a new ball until I figured out my style more. Phil spent so much time with me to try to help me get better at the game, without pressuring me to buy any fancy new, expensive gear. Instead of having me purchase a new ball, he worked with me to re-drill my existing ball at the time (for much, much cheaper) to better fit my hand and throw style. He passed on an easy sale so that I could salvage a ball I'd already spent $$$ on! Now I've been coming to this shop for a few months now and have bought balls for both myself and my mom from them. Phil and crew are so friendly and welcoming, and are always happy to make time to chit chat and give tips. This is the Pro Shop experience I'd heard so much about from my tournament-bowler friends... and this is where I send all my friends and anyone I meet who is looking for a local pro shop!

You still get random families with wild kids (sometimes wild adults lol) but you just live with it. They have string pins now. Compared to a few other string pins I've bowled on, these are pretty well tuned. They care about bowling here, which is nice. I appreciate that they allow you to reset the pins yourself on the lane, saves everyone time. Still my favorite house to bowl at in the area.

They have continually improved their administration efforts, and despite the problems and roadblocks put in front of the league by NYC's ridiculous "permit" and "lights" problems, they have provided an excellent opportunity to hundreds of athletes to compete in well-organized, legitimate leagues (in a lot of sports beside softball as well). ANyway... I thought it fair to give them a POSITIVE endorsement. THey deserve it. If you are looking for a league to play in, they offer "FREE AGENT" signings... so you can most likely find a team. THey also have different divisions for different levels of play. This makes sports appealing and fun for all. The people at YSA are very approachable and I endorse their Association. I have played with them for over 25 years.... and for me, playing in organized, competitive sports leagues, is one of the most enjoyable parts of my life. According to an article from Marathon Handbook "CrossFit, like most types of exercise, isn't necessarily inherently bad for you or dangerous; however, one of the primary risks of CrossFit workouts is getting injured." I have seen and experienced improper form or technique during CrossFit workouts which can increase the risk of injuries, reason 1, why I left. Overtraining or pushing oneself too hard without proper rest and recovery can lead to burnout or fatigue, reason 2, why I left. Even though they start new comers with "foundational workouts" I wouldn't recommend this type of workout training if you're a new beginner in your fitness journey. If you do decide to join, listen to your body and explore other places to workout. There are better alternatives for beginners.
