Look at this equipment...tape holding it together?! Dirty and old.

This gym has such outdated equipment I wonder why they are charging me a monthly fee for?! Gross. Clearly they need more competition in the area.

Let's face it, going to the gym can be an intimidating experience for some. Encountering any of these people (http://dailyburn.com/life/fitness/worst-people-gym-etiquette/) can keep newer gym-goers away. While you are certainly going to encounter folks of that caliber at any gym, the experience at Gold's Gym in Fishkill is a pleasant one for newbies and experienced gym folk, alike. The staff is top-notch in helping you get in shape via personal training, answering any questions you may have, or suggesting which post-workout shake to consume based on your fitness needs. They are very friendly and courteous; always a plus in my opinion. There are a myriad of group classes to participate in, in addition to the individually tailored personal training sessions. Upstairs features some cardio equipment which overlooks the facility, including a movie-viewing room for those who wish to find some sort of escape while they sweat profusely all over the treadmill. There are machines and free-weights galore; ones you don't have to wait for providing you stay away during peak hours (5pm-7pm comes to mind). Need a post-workout shake? Saddle up to the shake bar and order away. Preparing for a vacation or are you just as pale as a jar of mayonnaise? Hit the on-site tanning booths. Gold's has a lot for those who are looking to get the most out of their time at the gym. This, again, counts not only the experienced, but also the not-so-sure who need that little spark to ignite their proverbial fire. Overall, a great establishment.

Definitely a brand new gym and still has that 'squeaky-clean-new' feeling to it. The set-up is very Globo-gym. You half expect to see Ben Stiller walk out in a purple one piece. Walking in to the main floor, you walk by the open setup of weightlifting machines, past a long wall of mirrors (try not to look if you're feeling frumpy), and finally down the hallway towards the locker rooms. No sneaking into this gym! Everyone sees you as you walk in! Slightly intimidating for the first time visitor. The main floor is all weight-lifting - about a third is full of free weights, and the rest are nautilus(like?) machines arranged in a circle. In the center of the circle is where most trainers have their trainees doing interesting personal training exercises while said trainees do their darndest to pretend that they're NOT being stared at by the cardio-gawkers above.. The trainers are mostly young: between 20 - 30'ish - and willing to help a hand... IF you go out of the way to grab one. Don't expect help if you look confused or if you're certain you're not doing something right. (I definitely saw a lady sitting the wrong way on a machine once). Towards the side of the room, away from the watchful eyes of the treadmillers upstairs, you can do situps and pushups etc. on the mats which are near a row of equipment: weights, balls, ropes etc. Towards the back of the room are a few very large rooms for a variety of classes with seriously enthused instructors. And also a platform of cardio equipment: stairsteppers, crosstrainers, treadmills etc. which have their own individual tv's - perfect for secretly watching that show which your friends may mock you for. If you head up on the set of stairways next to that, you'll pass a Spinning classroom which is almost always packed full of happy sweaty people, and towards the cardio area which are mostly brand new Precor machines. As you walk by the treadmill-lined balcony (a.k.a. "The cardiodeck") overlooking the main floor and a set of flat-screen tv's, you'll get to where the crosstraining machines and to the Cardiotheater. The cardiotheater is FABULOUS - I've watched full movies before realizing that my feet hurt from running so many miles. There are treadmills, cross-steppers, and bikes- all arranged so you can see, and the many speakers around the room make for great surround sound. There's also a Lady Golds connected to the women's lockerroom - a small room but a decent amount of cardio and weightlifting machines and equipment. Overall, the gym has A LOT to offer and the clientele range from college-aged people, to a healthy set of grandparents; and then there's the somewhat intimidating contingent of die-hard-Golds-gym-overtanned musclemen in their tight tanktops and way-too-short-shorts. This is a group that frequents on Thursday evenings especially. (Don't say I didn't warn you). The make-up, set-up and sterility of this gym make it a bit cold, but if you can get past that, you've got all the equipment necessary (plus some) for a great work-out.

Instead of installing amazon lockers, maybe ownership could have made sure the men's locker room has fully functioning showers.
