We ordered different fish tacos and they were very good! The CLAM CHOWDER I had was just ok and really needs HELP! The nacho chips needed flavor. The onion rings are huge ... and I could only eat one! Fries were ok. Fish ceviche was good! Would I come back ... sure! Just please don't order the chowder! read more

Great fish tacos, especially on the weekend when they have the Surf and Turf tacos that feature tri tip and shrimp. Just delicious! Love the ceviche as well! read more

Encinitas fish shop is for a crowd that finds ketchup spicy. The tacos were pretty bland. I don't know what more could be expected from a fish shop in a very touristy area. If you're looking for a place to go after the beach this would be sufficient but it's not something to write home about. read more

This place is a big letdown. I really wanted to like this place and based on the high stars that it held, I was truly let down but the food. Since there were a few people in our group and we all love seafood, we stretched on the order a bit. Upon seeing the food, I already had a feeling it wasn't what it seemed to be. Let's start with fries. No one likes soggy fries. You could tell it was frozen fries that were reheated or something along that line. Some of them were at room temperature. You figured it be a bit hot after coming out of the fryer. The fish part isn't so bad. It was decent to good. But the batter... that looks like it was either left in the fryer too long or they are using old oil. Tacos, all of them, were lackluster with flavors that just didn't sit right. I advised everyone to stop eating it as it could lead to food poisoning. The color of poke looked like it was about to go. We also stopped that dish after the first few bites. Onion ring was good. Then again, it was compared with other dishes. Clam chowder ... don't get it. Just don't. Lumpia was decent. Texture was good. The filling though.. that was another questionable one. It stated seafood in the fillings... well.. none of us could make out what it was. The rice with it didn't make sense, to be honest. That was just a waste of food. Overall, I was pretty disappointed withthe quality of the food for the price I paid. The service staff was friendly and accommodating. But the food... you guys have a lot of work to do. I recommend that you skip this place until they improve their items because quality is definitely lacking. Best of luck to this establishment. read more

One of those places where you "don't judge a book by its cover." In this case, food looks good on photos, tastes like disappointment. I honestly don't think it's too difficult to do any seafood dish wrong, however, they can. Almost like they don't care to make it good. Putting it aside, friendly staff and cool spot for casual hangout. - elote tacos with albacore: bad corn tortilla, unseasoned fish, loads with cabbage, no sauce or salsa by the way. Elote has the most flavor out of everything else - blackened seasoning scallop tacos: not even blackened seasoning, it tastes burnt and plain - onion rings: super greasy and oily, worse than fast food chains - fish n chip: good flaky cod but thick, greasy, unseasoned batter. Fries are still cold, also worse than fast food chains. Tartare sauce kinda saves it - ahi tuna poke: not sure how long they've marinated that fish for. It's been sitting with seaweed salad for days. Weird oily taste, can't even tell the flavor - clam chowder: shouldve called big chunk potato cream soup, no sign of clam. One of the worst I've had so far - lobster lumpia: the only item that tastes more ok than the rest, no sign of lobster, by the way There are much much better seafood spot around the area. The first 2 star review, and this place deserved it. Save your money, don't come here! read more

Loved the concept, but food was just okay in my opinion. I've heard a lot of great things about Encinitas Fish Shop and I was excited to try for lunch! You can pick your fish, seasoning, and style (sandwich, tacos, salad, plate). I got two tacos with salmon and lobster. The seafood was fantastic but I didn't like the corn tortillas. The seafood was also covered in sauce and cheese. My husband got the halibut fish and chips. The fish was so moist, but the breading was thick. Almost tasted like pretzels. Once you order up front, they bring the food to your table. Quick service, but food was just okay. read more

This popular fish shop has great indoor seating and outdoor patio area that offers open air dining. The fish options are numerous from tacos to seafood plates. We tried the mahi mahi plate, tacos and poke bowl. We thoroughly enjoyed the tacos and large unique onion rings. They are a must try! They offer beer, wine and bar service for those who want a cocktail. Service here was friendly and efficient with our order. We liked it here. read more

Stopped by here many years ago while visiting family and decided I'd give it another try when I was in town. It did not disappoint and was just as delicious as I remembered! I like that they have indoor and outdoor seating as well so you can enjoy the nice weather while having lunch. read more

Came for lunch with a big group of it was crowded but we were able to find some space for us inside. I liked the option where you could customize your tacos but I ended up trying the elote fish taco, lobster taco, clam chowder and onion rings. The food tasted good but just wish there was a bit more of the proteins. The tacos were very heavy on the toppings more so the fish/lobster. read more

Great fish taco, loved the sauce and the slaw. It wasn't over the top amazing but it was a very solid taco. I would come back and try some more things on the menu. Looking at others food around me I could see myself enjoying more of the items on the menu. Good ambiance and the service was wonderful. read more

Wow! We ordered way too much food... but literally finished every scrap because it was all so good! My husband and I devoured 6 tacos, fries and onion rings and everything was top notch and high quality. Even the onion rings were battered to perfection. Service was great, but as the other reviews said, the line can be long to order. The vibe is chill, leaning more towards families than date night. read more

Went here on a Sunday for lunch. The place is busy, there is a constant line at the counter. We had the clam chowder and fish and chips. The portions are healthy and the fish and chips were very tasty. The clam chowder was a bit too lumpy. They have a good beer and cocktail selection. The food comes out at a good pace. Great place for lunch. Parking can be a bit tricky but otherwise a great place. read more

It's been well over a year since I've been to the Encinitas Fish Shop and after the wonderful meal I had here I wonder why the long delay in returning. My wife and me stopped here to have the Thursday, 4 pm $1.25 an oyster special. Pretty incredible price and the oysters are equally incredible. The day we went they offered the following oysters: Mintersweets from Gig Harbor, Washington; Mirada from South Hood Canal, Washington; Fanny Bay from Baynes Sound, British Columbia; and Stingrays from Chesapeake Bay, Virginia/Maryland. All of the oysters --- and I love raw oysters! --- were amazing. And yes, only $1.25 an oyster but only on Thursday at 4 pm. The 32 oysters my wife and me ordered were $40 before tax and tip! The staff here --- from the gentleman who took our order to the woman who served us the oysters --- were super friendly. The vibe of the restaurant with its rustic decor (both indoors and outdoors --- with a large patio) was very relaxed and informal. Now, I really need to return more frequently (even though it's long drive.) (And the rest of the food looked great here too!) read more

Everything here is a hit. Super fresh, creative menu with lots of great options. I got the fish stew and the snapper plate. The stew broth was classic and really flavorful, and the snapper was very fresh. We ordered it with the house seasoning which was great, though a little on the salty side. The onion rings are killer. Overall, such a great atmosphere. Perfect for a rainy day, super cozy. Service is super fast read more

Came on a weekday and was able to sit right away. It gets a lot busier on the weekends so keep that in mind if you're hungry. The fish stew is delicious! It's on the lighter side of soups for me but it's full of flavor! Never a disappointment with this dish! Everything else hit the spot as well!! I'm not very oyster savvy so don't know if it's great oysters or not but it's tasted good to me! Will definitely come back again if in the area! read more

I had been wanting to go to this location after trying a sample at the taste of Encinitas and finally went the other day. I had the shrimp ceviche which was really yummy! Sadly my clumsy self spilled a good majority of it, so I didn't get to fully enjoy it. I will definitely be back... and choose dine in rather than to go, to avoid another accident. read more

The single sea bass fish taco was 7.50. Proportions were way off and left me feeling shorted. Two small pieces of fish that didn't come close to matching the tortilla. Come on! Lumpia was tasty but the fish in the beer battered fish was mushy. Had the halibut and regular orders of fish and chips, lumpia, and clam chowder. The clam chowder wasn't to my wife's liking maybe somewhat of a soapy taste. The service was good but ordering was a bit slow. I liked the outdoor eating area as it's a nice area. 3.8/5 read more

Great place from the food to the atmosphere and the staff, there's nothing negative to say. I highly recommend it! I ordered the Albacore marinated with chipotle glaze, and it was cooked perfectly. Street parking available for this fast casual spot that has the vibe of a small sports bar in college town. The elote taco was great. Did not find the crunchy taco to be anything special. They have a great chipotle sauce as well as good variety to their menu. Onions rings are fresh and homemade. Service is hit or miss depending on the employee. Both indoor and outdoor seating options. A great spot for groups/families. read more

Ambience- it was located at the corner of W. I St & S. Coast Hwy so the view was good street level view; good to pedestrian and car watch. Food was was good. It's been awhile so I forgot what I had ordered but it was delish. Big screen TVs around the restaurant to watch any sports. I went on a Wednesday early afternoon (1:30ish). Late summer /early fall = primo sunny weather with a few puff clouds. Felt like spring. For me it was a late lunch; I like eating after the lunch crowd. It's less crowded but still active and being an afternoon street view is nice. I can imagine during happy hour or weekend. Full and alive. read more

This is a nice, casual, seafood restaurant and it is very popular. You wait in line, order at the counter, and then they bring your food to your table (pay attention, they generally come close to you and then yell our your name). There is plenty of seating, inside and out. As others have noted, be prepared to wait in line. The line can get very, very long. They have one person at the counter who takes the orders. If they had two people, it would be like a gift from heaven to the customers waiting in that line. Just saying. The menu is very interesting. They have regular dishes you can order (like fish and chips, poke bowl, etc.) or you pick your type of fish, your desired seasoning, and the way you want your food (taco, sandwich, etc.). You have a lot of options here. Incidentally, the beer, booze, and wine menu is very strong and interesting . I went with a garlic butter shrimp taco and a blackened salmon taco. You get a choice of flour or corn for the tortilla and I went full gringo and asked for flour. They were freshly-made tortillas and were outstanding. Both tacos come with a bunch of cabbage, cheeses, pico, etc. I also tried a special taco made with both shrimp and tri-tip (Cardiff Crack) and it was good. There is so much going on with the tacos, it is a little hard to appreciate the protein. They are good-sized and two tacos are absolutely plenty for a hungry person. One might be enough for a smaller eater. We also tried a small order of the onion rings and received a very nice sized-portion of them. They were not greasy at all and were very nice. The food is a little on the pricey side but it's fresh and the dishes are well made. I'm not a fan of the long line but otherwise, this is good stuff. read more

This place was delicious, the staff was lovely, and the space was super enjoyable to eat at. This was exactly what we were looking for. The oysters were super tasty and easy to eat. Both fried fish tacos on corn tortillas were super good. I got mine with avocado and it was 100% worth it, it was the perfect avocado and it was a big piece. I will say we did want more heat on our tacos but they had cholula at the tables to help with that. My boyfriend had the shrimp taco and said it was amazing, I opted for the grilled swordfish and it was super good and really well cooked. I do recommend using their house rub because it was a little plain with the lemon butter. The ahi tuna was truly the star of the evening. It was so, so fresh, amazing and perfectly seasoned. I would eat a bucket of it. Everyone was also super friendly and we were super happy with our dinner. Cant wait to come back!! read more
