I was a little hesitant to try this place because of some of the reviews but we decided to take the chance due to the waterfront location and we glad we did. We were seated immediately and our server was taking our drink orders right away. We were wanting a light lunch and elected to share an order of mussels for an appetizer and split the grilled seafood dinner. The mussels were large and very meaty, biggest I've ever had, and tasty. The grill seafood came with a small lobster tail, one claw, 4 shrimp, 4 scallops, with potatoes and corn for sides. It was all delicious especially the scallops. I was already full but the waiter tempted my wife with their blueberry pie and it was excellent. I forgot to get a picture of the grilled seafood until we were nearly finished. Our first impression was sketchy. After being seated and meeting Moose, our server, everything changed! He was awesome! The oysters were incredibly fresh, the blackened haddock was flavorful and tender, and the haddock tacos came with a refreshing mango salsa. This was the only place that offered your choice of warm or cold, and if you wanted it with butter, you could have it on the side instead of drenched. The host would not look up from her phone when we walked up. When she finally did, she just looked at us without saying anything, so we told her we would like to sit on the deck and get drinks maybe some apps and desserts. She said we would have to sit at the bar if we weren't getting a full meal.....the deck was empty so not sure why it was that big of a deal. read more

One of our bartenders suggested this place when we said we wanted something with ocean views. We were sat outside pretty quickly! Views were great. Service was overall quick and good. We were seated and excited for more lobster. Every place so far was amazing! Ordered lazy lobster and realized right away it was pre frozen. Tough and comparable to a chain in the Midwest. Great service. We were there because our cruise ship pulled in and we were looking for someplace where we could get some authentic seafood. I had the clam chowder and mussels, which were very good. My friend had a lobster roll and chowder, along with a Maine Blueberry beer. Everything was great. They took my lobster allergy seriously and made sure that my food was prepared separately. The service was very slow. We didn't get glasses of water for more than twenty minutes, and when our server finally brought the cocktails he had forgotten the waters. The entrees came out a little faster, but not by much. Everything else was very good. It's hard to beat the ambiance - views of the water over Bar Harbor. I recommend the Bloody Mary - especially spiced up a bit. We had a dozen delicious oysters from Damariscotta. Linse ordered the fried whole belly clams, which we both agreed were the best fried clams we'd ever had (and saved this rating from 3). Service was great. Food was mediocre at best. Blackened haddock sandwich was not particularly blackened and did not taste especially fresh. Steak sandwich was okay, but too greasy and not flavorful. Overall, I wished we would have picked one of the lobster shacks on the way back to our resort in Ellsworth. The best thing about this restaurant is the view. Bar Harbor is absolutely beautiful! The hostess and waiter were nice and friendly enough, but the food was kind of disappointing. Maybe because our expectations were high for a seafood restaurant right on the harbor?! Or maybe we didn't order the right menu items?! We ended up ordering the Steamed Clams and Lobster Roll with onion rings. The steamed clams were really sandy...felt like I was crunching on pebbles with most of them :-/ The lobster roll wasn't bad, just not amazing like I was hoping. The restaurant was almost empty and we still had to wait. We ordered 2x a seafood platter. Advertised as "lobster tail, claws, shrimp, scallops, corn on the cob and potatoes" for $45. Reality was a very tiny lobster tail, a ridiculously small claw with barely anything in there. Plenty of boiled potato pieces and half of a strange tasting corn cob. Full, robust with delicious melted cheese pouring over the sides of the bowls. Oh, so delicious. What loses a star here is the quality of the ingredients. My chicken cheese steak had PERFECTLY cooked chicken (I mean perfectly moist and falling apart juuuuuuust right!) but it was smothered in a low quality cheese. My fries were cut nicely, but they just didn't taste as good as they could have. My partner's "haddock" sandwich looked great but he said it was either not real haddock or very frozen prior to cooking. I would definitely come back for apps, service, and drinks!
