I tried FCG again today. The portions were decent. We had the calamari as an appetizer and it was just ok. I was starving so I chowed that down quickly. It was lukewarm but crunchy. The flavor was flat, just a bit of salt and maybe some other seasoning., but nothing noteworthy. I had the seafood platter $26.00 for a catfish fillet, 4-5 shrimp and oysters. I don't care for raw oysters and it is a 7-8 upcharge if you want your oysters grilled so I opted for extra shrimp and I am glad I did. Their shrimp are on the small side and a bit overcooked. They are butterflied with the tails still on and they still managed to be a bit chewy and tough. The catfish wasn't anything to rave about, their coleslaw is mid and the fries were super salty and room temperature when they arrived. Two seafood platters, one soda, a cup of gumbo (with a weird aftertaste), the calamari and it was $79.00 bucks plus a 14.00 tip. This will be my last visit to FCG. read more

I tried this spot a couple of years ago and decided to swing back by tonight--and wow, I forgot just how bomb the food really is! My hubby ordered the Shrimp Po' Boy (pictured in this review), and I went with the Fishwich, fried extra crispy. Confession: I didn't even make it to the photo stage before taking a bite--the smell alone had me locked in, and the rest was history. The fish was flavorful and crispy just the way I like it, though I do wish it had been drained a little more since it came out a bit greasy. Now, my husband? He was living his best foodie life with that Po' Boy. He literally said it was BOMB--and judging by the look on his face, he meant it! I'll admit I was a little jealous, because I wanted a Po' Boy too, but shrimp is the only option right now and I don't eat shrimp. Hopefully, they'll expand the menu to include more choices (a fish or chicken Po' Boy would be a game-changer ). The only downside? Parking. It's super limited, and I had to get a little creative with where I left my car just to grab our order. But honestly, greasy fish and tight parking aside, this place is still 100% worth a try. Fish City Grill is located off of Debbie ln in Mansfield, TX serving grilled, fried, and baked seafood to the community along with great appetizers such as oysters and fried green tomatoes. We came by on a weekday for dinner and it was fairly packed inside, but we managed to get seated right away by our lovely hostess. Our nice server came by with a warm welcome as he gave us our menus and took our drink orders. We decided to go with fried calamari for our appetizers along with fried green tomatoes. For our entrees we ordered the Texas red fish, and fried seafood platter along with kids mac n cheese. Our appetizers came fairly quickly and were looking exquisite! Our fried calamari came out with a thin but crispy batter garnished with a lemon wedge and complimented with a sweet chili sauce and a creamy white dipping sauce. The calamari were seasoned well and tasted fantastic, and I must say this dish got my appetite working! Our next appetizer arrived, and it was fried green tomatoes coated in cornmeal laying beneath a bed of shredded lettuce. I really enjoyed this dish since I haven't had it last since I visited Mississippi and it brought a smile to my face. Our entrees arrived shortly after we finished our apps, and I just couldn't wait to dig in! The fried seafood platter came with fried catfish, oysters, shrimp, and hush puppies. The dish also came with coleslaw and one side in which I opted for fries. The fish was battered and deep fried golden to perfection that was complimented with tartar and cocktail sauce for the shrimp. All the seafood tasted good, and it kept me digging in for more. The redfish was the star of the show that was cooked perfectly leaving the fish moist and tender. The parmesan rice was creamy and flavorful while the fresh green beans had a nice snap back when biting into. Overall Fish City grill served good seafood with average fair prices in the area. The ambience was in a laid-back clean setting with great customer service. The sweet chili sauce with it was so good. I ordered the grilled shrimp and replaced the cole slaw and fries with a double order of mixed veggies. The shrimp were perfect and the veggies were a hair too peppery. I ended with enough food for leftovers. The inside was a classy dark wood and beach theme. A friend of mine who used to live in Mansfield but had moved away was coming to the area and wanted to meet us at hers, and our favorite fish restaurant, Fish City Grill. It also just happened to be our friend's birthday, so we were going to have a celebration. My wife and I were so happy we were going to be able to spend time with our dear friend and share a meal with her. Our friend was already there when my wife and I arrived. After looking at the drink menu, the Patron Margarita sounded good. I also ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes which was one of the day's featured appetizers. While visiting with our dear friend, drinks and appetizers were served. Awesomeness, everything was so great. For entrees our friend ordered the fish and chips, which is her favorite. My wife ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and I decided to order one of the daily specials, Chargrilled Wild Caught Swordfish accompanied with bourbon roasted corn and sauteed green beans. One of the things I love about Fish City Grill is that a visit isn't rushed even when the restaurant is hopping on a Saturday evening. The Fried Green Tomatoes were incredible and fried to perfection. After a reasonable amount of time, our entrees were served. All of our entrees were prepared to perfection. This location is close to my work and we like to stop in for lunch some. The salmon salad with quinoa and pecans is my go to but really everything i have tried here is good. I ate here yesterday afternoon, it was the WORSE eating experience of my life. the f was straight TRASH. just in case you don't believe me, I ordered a Seafood platter 1catfish filet, 5 shrimp 5 Orsters and the worst coldslaw ever. It was our first time going, and we've been meaning to visit for a while. Everything was so good! Can't go wrong with the sampler or the fried jalapeños. The roasted jalapeno soup and clam chowder were to die for! Gumbo had the perfect amount of seasoning, and the crab bisque was delicious. I had the texas blackened red fish with gulf shrimp, crab butter, and green beans with creamy parm rice. Sooooo good! My husband had the shrimp po boy, and he loved it, too. We didn't finish our meal as we ate a lot of the apps, but we took everything to go. Our waitress Brandy is amazing. She checked on us and refilled our teas when they were low. I was so happy when a Fish City Grill showed up on our radar near where I live south of I-20. An actual seafood restaurant out here is rare unless you're okay with only fried seafood or seafood boils being the entirety of the menu. We were already familiar with both Fish City Grill and their sister restaurant, Half Shells; but let's talk a little about this location. The parking here could be better. Most of the actual available parking spaces are usually to the side or behind the restaurant. You have to walk around the building. Just be ready for it in inclement, cold or windy weather. They have a small bar and a limited waiting area. It's like running a gauntlet to leave the restaurant. The to go door is also ill placed in what is an already congested parking lot. Frankly, planners could have given access much more thought. It's popular! It's busy! I give it one frown, a groan and a sigh. The food is worth the inconvenience though. Every time. The staff are always friendly and do their best to keep things moving along. The company's generous Veteran's Day gesture of thanks always brings us in. This year the veteran was allowed to spend up to $26.95 on any entree. That includes specials as well as the entire menu! Very generous, indeed! The spouse or other diner pays, of course, and that's not a problem. Deciding what to eat is a problem. My favorite, oysters, has risen dramatically in price since I last had any. East Coast were $34/dz. and Gulf only slightly less. They had Happy Hour prices for individual oysters both raw and chargrilled at $2.50 ea. In the end, I ordered the Happy Hour price ($15) appetizer of half dozen chargrilled oysters with lemon, coarse salt and parm, a cup of roasted jalapeño soup and my Army veteran husband ordered the Pick 2 platter of fried catfish fillet and butterflied shrimp and a House salad. Everything was so very good. The oysters were perfect. Barely cooked. Of the ocean. A little smoky. The roasted jalapeño soup was creamy with just enough heat. I loved the veggies in it and it was perfect for the weather. My husband's house salad dressing was bright and tangy and he really enjoyed his entire salad. Without fail, the fish is always cooked beautifully here. No matter the method, it's always well seasoned and delicious and picture perfect when presented. Even when they are busy out of their heads. If I had any criticism it would be that they don't have any crusty bread to serve with the oysters. Fish City Grill will bring you toasted Po'Boy bread if you ask for bread. It's better than no bread, for sure. But it's not my idea of what I really want with chargrilled oysters and all that yummy liquid. We were able to be seated in one of the booths, which is my favorite place to sit; but where you sit comes with a catch. All of the specials from appetizers to entrees and desserts are on the walls on blackboards. If your server is busy, you might not get all the day's info because there are places where you can't see all the boards. I mean what are you supposed to do? Hover at someone else's table to read them? There has never been a time where I've known about everything that was available that day because we have been seated in the same area every time! Bizarre but true. The same was true this last time. She was sweet; but made no effort to tell us about the day's specials. I had to ask as she turned to leave the table. She brought us back a piece of paper with the dinner specials; but nothing else. I mean I certainly left content, it's just the idea of it. This is a great casual seafood restaurant! They have fun specials and seasonal drinks. I love coming during their happy hour and getting a dozen East Coast oysters! I had the wood grilled sea bass with a Cajun sauce, blue cheese salad and red potatoes. It was sooooo good! Every bite, morsel was just full of flavor. The sea bass was moist, full of flavor accented by the Cajun sauce. The blue cheese salad and red potatoes were a perfect compliment to the sea bass. I was totally taken a back by how good it was. I was visiting friends and family in Mansfield, and Friday night, we decided to go to Fish City Grill. It was a solid choice - we all liked seafood of some sort. I got the half order of catfish, it came with fries and coleslaw. Let's get the bad out of the way fast. I was unable to eat the coleslaw, it was clyingly sweet. And for a vinegar based coleslaw, that was unexpected. The ingredients - the cabbage, carrots, scallions/onions - those were great, nicely crunchy, but so so sweet. Some people, probably a lot of people like sweet coleslaw, but I want the tart tanginess of apple cider vinegar. There. Done. The fries were hot, crisp, tender on the inside, and well seasoned. For some odd reason, great fries are all great in the same way, so not a lot to say here. Good fries. The catfish tasted fresh caught or wild caught, not farm raised. It had the muddy, earthy taste of a river bottom. Farm raised is smoother flavored. If you like wild caught, this is great. If you prefer farm raised, maybe pick the salmon. The salmon looked good and my companion who ordered it loved it. My other companion got the gumbo and then the fish and chips. He cleared his bowl and plate, so I know it was good. I don't visit often and we rarely eat at the same place twice, so I may never return, but I'm glad I had the experience. read more

Consistently delicious spot in Mansfield. We love coming here for lunch because it's right up the street from the office and they have some really fabulous salads but also I like to combo the appetizers and gumbo for an easy lunch meal. The fresh selection of fish on the board is always unique options and they often have new sides to try so the menu is consistently the same but the specials keep it ever changing. They have a great bar and nice clean restaurant and the staff always take great care of us.
