Been a vegan for a short time.. So finding vegan food or friendly options is a bit difficult... The restaurant itself was cool inside.. The staff super friendly and accommodating.. When I ordered and mentioned I was vegan.. And ordered my meal without cheeses and eggs.. She happily accommodates that.. Amazing. Can't believe there's not a line out the door. Great pancakes, French toast, omelet was awesome. Especially love the lemon ricotta pancakes . Loved the home fries and bacon was thick and crisp. Cute place, friendly staff. Service was a bit slow at first opening but I've been back many times and it's gotten so much better. Went for lunch with a work colleague recently and had a sandwich and my colleague had breakfast. We were both so happy! Very good food, good service, can't wait to go back! We went to a late lunch, so it wasn't very busy. I can see how it would get crowded at busier times. I would probably avoid it during lunch rush for sure. My only minor complaint was that it was a touch disorganized getting seated. I would like some direction, such as a seat yourself at the "bar" like table or wait to be seated sign. This place specializes in fresh ingredients, and you can really taste it. It's not mind blowing food you've never had, it's typical brunch foods done very well. The million dollar bacon was ok, but honestly the regular bacon was so perfectly cooked and fresh I'd stick with that next time. Also the sausage gravy and biscuits had way too much fennel for our taste, so be aware of that. Also have to mention portion sizes and price were perfect. Many brunch places have overly large portions, this place was perfect generous portions without being overstuffed. The half salad/half sandwich deal is amazing! The only thing better than the menu is the service. My favorite server is Sydney. I try to request her whenever I come in. She is attentive, helpful, and always gives excellent service. Now on to the good stuff! The food is spectacular to say the least. I've made it a personal mission to try nearly everything on the menu hence the fact that I have eaten here about 8 times in the last 2 months. The jam that comes on the side with the omelette is delicious and adds to the texture of the toast. The arugula and kale that accompanies the omelette has the perfect amount of dressing and it's wonderful to the palate. If you want something from the griddle, there is a variety of options, but I strongly recommend the banana granola crunch or carrot cake. You truly cannot go wrong with any choice on the menu. Very disappointed in the wait system. We walked in and checked in at the host stand. They told us it would be a 30 minute wait. We went to a couple stores near by and came back 20 minutes later. We went from 20 minutes to 45 and kept getting pushed further and further on the wait list. read more

My new favorite go-to breakfast restaurant! I'm an early-breakfast kind of guy, so they get points just for being open and ready at 7 a.m. I walked in and my waitress, Mia, greeted me at the door and, unlike other Detroit area restaurants, must have noted my newspaper and settled me at a booth table with plenty of space. I explained I was a first timer there and she efficiently directed me toward the menu highlights. The coffee was great, but I LOVE that I had a carafe of excellent coffee at my table rather than having to wait for refills - and of the coffee note, First Watch is socially-responsible with coffee vendors, (see photo below). I had an omelet (bacon/avocado with a tasty side of greens, but have to say had a difficult time choosing which of their several notable options to select. So even had I not had an amazing waitress, I'd be back to try one of their many delicious-sounding options. read more

This was my first time here at first watch in Troy! I was a little bit skeptical coming to a place like this. Because I like mom-and-pop places more than anything. But I have to say I was very impressed with first watch. When I first walked in I was greeted by a friendly hostess. She asked me if this was my first time. And I told her yes it is! And she welcomed me and asked me if I was eating with anybody else. And I told her no. The place was jampacked and I didn't think I was gonna get seated for a while. So she told me about their "community table" And she told me it's basically a bar type set up. Minus the bar LOL! It was a long table with about 14 seats. And I say it with a few people that I didn't know. As a waitress gave me The menu to look over. The people sitting right next to me and welcomed me and introduced himself! Which I thought was very cool! What a great way to meet people if you're just sitting by yourself and a big long table! So cool! Love the concept! So I ordered a Tri athlete of their healthy breakfast menu everything tasted amazing a simple omelette with some mushrooms tomato and green peppers and a bowl of fruit and I had the best tasting bacon called the million dollar bacon which I highly recommend you should try! A breakfast place that doesn't know how to cook eggs. My second time here, after a first time where I ordered eggs Benedict, and they forgot the Hollandaise on my to go order. I arrived at 8 am and the front door was locked, despite it being open since 7. Knocked and was let in. Ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy with eggs over MEDIUM. The food arrived timely enough, but the eggs were a smashed mess, cooked through. Now, everyone can mess up an order, so I asked politely for replacements. The server had no problem obliging and returned with another set of eggs. These were cooked over easy, and the server agreed with this assessment. For the third time, she returned to the Kitchen, and brought back a third set of eggs. These were ALSO over easy, Yolks completely runny. I was with 3 other people and didn't want to make a scene, so I made due. I managed a kitchen for 10 years, if a cook can't make an egg properly, he doesn't belong in a kitchen. This place puts no care or concern into what they make, seems they just follow the formula without putting trained cooks on the line. They need someone in the back who can monitor their food quality instead of flashy signage and interior decorating. You're a BREAKFAST PLACE! If you can't cook an egg properly, let me know, I will come and teach you this basic principle of cooking. That is not a sarcastic statement. I really wanted to like this place, but for now I'll go to the diner down the street who can listen to a basic order and doesn't charge $10 a plate. read more

Food was fine, but terrible service. We always tip 20-25% and have NEVER complained about service. Had to go up front to get our own water and stirrers for coffee due to no silverware or napkins. Our meal lasted about an hour as it took 15 minutes to get our coffee and longer to get food. If it weren't for the food being decent, would have rated 1 star. Far superior brunch spots in Troy to eat. Ended up tipping 15% as we couldn't bring ourselves to shorting the food runners and bussing staff. read more

Wow! This is pretty much the breakfast place of my dreams. The food was excellent and you could tell everything was made from scratch in house. It was the freshest and most delicious breakfast I have had in a long time. I had the Farm Stand Breakfast Tacos, which were bursting with flavor. The dish had three tacos filled with scrambled eggs, Cajun chicken, chorizo, Monterrey Jack and cheddar cheeses, fresh avocado, and pico de gallo. The ratios of meat to cheese to eggs to toppings was perfect so you could taste the spice from the meats, the freshness from the veggies, the lightness from the eggs, the smoothness from the cheeses, and the heartiness from the tortillas. The meats had the perfect amount of spice, which left me wanted a second order of the tacos. It was served with a small bowl of black beans, which actually had flavor. My experience with black beans is they are usually not spiced appropriately, but these were great. I also ordered an Açaí Squeeze, which was made with fresh juices from Açaí berries, oranges and beets. It also had some fresh ginger blended in and it was incredibly refreshing. My wife loved her food too, but I can't remember what she ordered. The only things I remember are the toast and greens that came with her meal. She went bananas for the house-made bread that they used for the toast and the house-made berry jam. She especially enjoyed the coffee. You could tell that it was freshly brewed and they left a thermal carafe of coffee at our table so she could refill at any time. Our waiter was nice and friendly, but he brought us the wrong meals, which we didn't realize until a few minutes after he brought us our food when a waitress showed up with the correct meals. I hope they didn't toss that food! If it was going to be tossed, then we would have been happy to take the food. We were in and out in about 30 minutes and our food arrived about five minutes after we ordered it. The restaurant is super clean and it has some nice decor. The bathroom was clean too, which was a plus. Our bill was about $33 with tip, so the food was on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for-fresh food made from scratch and we all left full. We will definitely be back! A tip for future guests: arrive before 9 AM because it gets busy. We arrived just before 8:30 AM yesterday (Sunday) and it was starting to get packed with people waiting for tables as we were leaving. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I can tell they're extremely understaffed and receiving a lot of business that they aren't ready for but they need to work on customer service. First of all, our waitress was so rude and had a difficult time suggesting things which is what the waitress is for?????? She only approached us to take our orders and give us the bill. No check up or anything. The general manager received a comment from an older lady about hiring more staff, and he said are you applying??? Geez, take her input and don't be so rude in front of other customers!! I confronted him and just informed that stepping up customer service could do the restaurant wonders. I found this place by accident on yelp! So for all of the people that actually read reviews and check the pictures like me LET ME TELL YOU! A lot of places post really nice professional pictures of their menu & when you get there it's obvious that they just tried to glorify their menu to be better than what it truly is. THAT is NOT the case here. When I first saw this place I was super stoked to check it out in person to see what it was really like & get a feel for the atmosphere. So comfortable and rustic! So fresh! So many amazing menu options! Do yourself a favor & get the AM SUPER FOOD BOWL! I was between that and the seasonal matcha latte pancakes so I literally went back 2 days later so I could get both! The first time I went I remember thinking the coffee was amazing. The second time I went I saw that they actually specially articulated their coffeee blend. The table has half and half, hazelnut creamer, and French vanilla. If you're a coffee drinker you can appreciate that with me! Iced coffee is spot on too! I wanted to try the fresh juices too so I figured I would dive right in and try the green one! I fully expected it to taste like grass. NOPE! Literally if you closed your eyes and drank it you wouldn't even believe that it's a green juice ! But all around us, people were being served in a reasonable time, even those that were seated after us. We had to get up to find our waitress twice for coffee refill & dirty silverware. Still, we waited politely. After about 30 mins, our food was served & it was so cold I was afraid to eat it. The bread on my Eggs Benedict was stale & so hard I couldn't cut it, the sauce was gelled & the whole thing was cold! Awful. We didn't get the bacon that we ordered for another 5-8 mins & it was barely cooked. Yuk. I simply asked the waitress to remove my order from our bill & explained why. She apologized & offered a gift certificate to the table. I had to search for her again to get the bill, but when I tried to pay with their certificate, was told it couldn't be used at this visit.
