Seasonal Tangerine Dream

The service at this location is always amazing- this is my fave FW But this review is for the holiday menu: do not miss the Tangerine Dream! (See pic) I'm a kale tonic gal but the seasonal tangerine is like an orange sherbet and worth the splurge

I love First Watch & have been here and other locations. While waiting, I removed bacon crumbs from my table then opened my napkin to find food stuck to my new place setting. I was kinda grossed out so decided to leave but asked for manager on way out to let her know I ordered but I'm not staying because of that. She said "okay." No apologies, no nothing. Her attitude change would have prevented me writing, still ewh ...

This place is adorable and has amazing service. For how busy they were I felt I was still taken care of quickly and efficiently. And the food is amazing! If you're fresh out of the hospital, or looking for a good brunch spot, give this place a try.

Friendly Staff fast service and great bacon !! I asked the server her recommendation and she gave me an honest opinion and I went it and I wasn't mad about it!! I will definitely return!

Large inside with many tables for Seating. Seated right away for lunch. The waitress was super friendly. I got the half ham and gruyere cheese and tomato basil soup. The soup needed croutons and parmesan cheese. It came with two packages of saltine crackers. The bread for the sandwich was outstanding and the mustrd saice rhe best part. The breakfast tacos on their holiday menu sounded amazing. I definitely want to go back for those. It was quite chilly. Wish i had worn a heavier sweater. Wrapped my jacket around me to stay warm. Tip: you pay at the counter up front.

Didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by First Watch. Simple layout and design, great staff and the wait is never too long. I wouldn't say the food blows you away, but definitely an above average breakfast spot for me. I stick with the Farm House Skillet w/ Turkey Sausage, Belgian Waffle and the Watermelon Refresher or Purple Haze. Very good.

Check out the fork. That's not a piece of rice.

I came here many weekends last year because I loved the food and service. Sadly, after today's experience, I will not be returning. Neither will my friend, who, after eating her club sandwich, put a forkful of salad to her mouth, only to find a maggot crawling from it! This instantly killed our appetites. We had already overlooked things such as the outside of the dishes being dirty, as if someone had put vodka sauce on their hands before handling them and didn't wipe it off. The color didn't match any of the ingredients in our dish. The portions were smaller, the bartender gave us a hard time when we tried to order a drink while we waited, and the service was not as good as I remember. But a maggot?! These are grounds to call the Department of Health on them! Who wants to leave a dining experience feeling squeamish? We both questioned whether or not we had unknowingly eaten some. It was repulsive. I needed to take a nap and restart the day. You get the picture. Buyer beware!

The seasonal menu item - The B.E.C. The bacon egg and cheese sandwich. What is amazing about this sandwich is that it comes with Calabrian chilies, chili oil and arugula! It's so good

We came on mother's day which is probably bad decision number one. This place was packed with an hour wait. We were able to get two seats at the bar in 10 mins so we opted for that route. This is our first time here so super excited. After 20 mins we finally got yo place a drink order. We started with mimosas. Not cold at all, insert sad face. The wait time to place a food order was crazy. The wait time to get water after placing the food order, even crazier. The wait time to receive food.... let's not even talk about it. What I observed was the lack of efficiency and focus. You could tell this staff just isn't prepared to effectively multi task and stay on task during busy periods. The girl working the bar area, while nice, was very scattered. She was forgetting everything. The people at the small bar area are requesting the same things multiple times. They have these beautiful menu boards with specials written in chalk. when i questioned an item I was told to ignore those boards and only order what's on the paper menu. well why is it here then?? Ordered my eggs over easy on the hash and received a hard fried egg after waiting 45 mins (sigh) Receive our food bill and it's double charged for mimosas that the bartender specifically made us pay for up front (double sigh). Another 15 minute wait to get her to fix the bill, had to remind her because as mentioned she's scattered. This place just needs a strong manager presence up front to help keep things flowing on days like this. I want to love this place. The service was just sooooo lack luster that it's difficult to justify going back.

There are many, we normally go to the one on 13 and woodward, but there is also one on big beaver and one at 14 and coolige I think.

Best time to go?

Honestly, it really depends. I've had shorter waits at certain ones. You can always add your name to the waitlist before you go.

The people working here were so friendly and personable with literally everyone that walked in the door. The service was top notch. It is also the most adorable place giving vibes of Lamy's food counter at Henry Ford Museum. I loved all of the options on the menu and it was so hard just picking a couple items to try. We had chicken tacos. They were so good and so fresh, I loved the sauce on top. Honestly, I am not sure if it was cheese or a sour cream type mixture, but it was creamy and flavorful. I also had the torta which was absolutely incredible. It had the same chicken as the taco. The chicken was slow cooked or stewed and shredded and was so flavorful, like a homecooked chef's kiss. The bread was fresh. I loved the sauce poured over it, making it a dipped and soaked sandwich. The carrots and cilantro, sliced radishes and sliced fresh jalapenos added a level of crunch, freshness and deeper flavor profile. I would want to get this every time. We also tried their delicious "curly" fries, which were like julienned shoestring fries fired fresh. It seemed like every dish was made fresh and right in front of you. So worth it, plus the prices are great. I would love to try their fried chicken plate, their breakfast sandwiches, and their other desserts. We talked to the man behind the counter who seemed like maybe a manager. He gave us their famous chocolate chip cookie to try. It was fresh baked and delicious. I would love to take home more of those. It looked so simple but was better than many bakeries specializing in cookies alone. He also gave us an second order of fries to take home with my leftovers, just top notch kindness and service. This man told us that OWL owns other restaurants and we would probably like them. I am open to trying more of their group but I do want to return here. This is one of those diners you would find being profiled for best kept secret or gourmet home cooked foods under the guise of fast food.

I've had the torta, birria street tacos, and breakfast sandwiches, and I must say that all are SO yummy. While the street tacos are a bit small, they're still a great option for a quick pick-me-up! Service is a bit hands-off due to the space, but workers are attentive and welcoming.

I ordered the Mediterranean skillet, lemon pancakes, and a side of biscuits and gravy. Yes, this was a heavy breakfast! The Mediterranean skillet had plenty of feta, which I LOVED but it was dry overall. There was no sauce to really bring everything together. I even got eggs over medium and the egg yolk did not add much creaminess. It was good, just not my favorite thing I've eaten. The lemon pancakes were absolutely unreal. Sooo fluffy and the cream cheese frosting was incredible. I would 100% recommend them. I also tried a side of biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was very thick, which was not my favorite, but the gravy itself was amazing, but it's the white super peppery kind, which I know is not everybody's favorite! Again, just kind of dry, even with the gravy. The service was good, and for a Saturday around 11 AM, the 20 minute wait was totally reasonable. I would definitely come back, just probably not for the skillet next time.

I finally got to try Toast in Ferndale for brunch!…read more The parking situation is a small lot behind the back and finding a spot on a weekend morning wasn't easy! We didn't have reservations so we did have to wait a while for a table. But, Toast made it manageable with an outdoor waiting area where you can order drinks from the bar. By the way, the outdoor area is not fully insulated, just sectioned off with clear tarp, so it can still feel a little chilly. However, it was nice having somewhere sit and mingle instead of just standing around by the door. Now to the good part: My table ordered the trashy hashy, toast egg sammy, and a muddled strawberry vanilla iced matcha. I started off with the iced matcha and ended with the egg sammy with a side of parmesan grits. The matcha was a little watery but good. The sandwich was super flavorful but very messy. My sister then asked to speak with a manager. When the manager came over, the other ladies in our group also mentioned the waitress's attitude. Instead of addressing our concerns professionally, the general manager became defensive and stated that the waitress did not have a nasty attitude. He then told us that if we wanted to leave, we could leave because he was not going to be bothered with us. I used to live nearby about 25 years ago and remember coming to a diner in this area for breakfast back then. Fast forward to today--this isn't the same place, but wow, it's absolutely amazing. I got the "burnt orange espresso tonic" and a "rosemary biscuit". Both were amazing. The biscuit was warm and buttery and the included jam (which appeared house made) was the perfect compliment. The flavors were all distinct but complimentary and made this into a spectacular treat. The espresso tonic is the best I've had. The flavor was fresh, light and fruity, with the bitterness of the coffee keeping it grounded and sophisticated. I even ate the orange slice at the end. The wait for my drink was probably about 7-10 minutes but knowing that in the future, I'm willing to plan around if the product is going to be this good. When you need something, it does cause some issue. I sat outside for the first really warm weekend. The table could have used an umbrella. The espresso martini is good. Ordered a Greek salad plus chicken. Just okay for $19. Dressing was good but not standout. For my first time, we ordered a large Mom's House pizza. There is always a concern with tomato on a pizza. With the tomato, cheese, and amount of toppings, the pizza was soggy. Not sure if this is a common issue, or if the crust was undercooked or maybe too much cheese. I deleted the photo. We didn't mention it to the server. Probably should have. Did not want to be that guy though. Took the L. My two patrons ate one slice. I ate two. Threw the rest of the soggy pizza away. I thought it tasted solid, but the sogginess ruined it. The soggy pizza was served without a slice spatula/server - which made the pizza hard to grab. We didn't bother to ask if one was available. I will try another pizza for a second chance. My other patrons would be hard pressed to come back. The soggy pizza ruined their first time opinion. Lastly, the pizza and salad bowl are served on beige, recyclable plates and bowl. While I understand the convenience, it comes across as tacky and limits the ambience. Old pics show the Greek salad presented in a nicer bowl.
