First Watch is amazing! We joined the waitlist and were quickly seated upon arrival. Minus one hiccup (my food was lukewarm and had to be remade), the service and food were both great. I love anything with lavender, so started with the Purple Haze (mixture of lemon, tea, lavender). It was soooo good! The Works Omelet and breakfast potatoes were yummy, along with the perfectly made Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. This was the best breakfast I've had in a long time! Stopped by on Sunday afternoon to grab a quick bite to eat before heading to Oak Brook mall. I decided to try the steel cut oatmeal. At first I thought it was quite expensive for a small cup of oatmeal, but once I received it I was pleasantly surprised. They gave a generous portion of oatmeal with bananas, strawberries, and pecans on top. I also received a small cup of brown sugar to top it off. It was very delicious and filling. When my sister sent me pictures of breakfast and told me where she was, I was a bit jealous. So jealous I ordered it to go at work the next day. I've heard nothing but rave reviews of this place, and they are all right. The food is very fresh, well-seasoned and big portions. To do a to-go order you must order thru the website or their app. I ordered the biscuits with turkey sausage gravy with seasoned potatoes and a side of cheesy grits. Where do I even begin?? The egg was cooked perfectly in a patch of butter. The gravy had the right amount of gravy-ness and taste, and the biscuit was fluffy good. My favorite was the seasoned potatoes. My coworkers raved about the waffles and how the cinnamon was perfect and not to overbearing. I knew if the food was that good that I needed to go there and try it fresh, and I did just that on a Sunday morning. Because I ordered to-go a few days before, I knew that I was able to reserve a spot in line without having to be at the restaurant. This is super convenient since they don't take reservations. When we got there, it was definitely a wait for others, but all we had to do was check in and wait a few mins longer. Once our table was ready, we received a text and then was seated. While waiting to be greeted by our waitress, I was admiring the decor. I got country farmhouse vibes. Super cute. Chloe was our waitress, and she was very pleasant and loved conversing. She gave us her recommendations. We decided to go with the smoked salmon eggs benedict with a side of greens drizzled with a lemon vinaigrette, a warm lemon blueberry cornbread accompanied by a heaping scoop of butter, smoked salmon frittata with seasoned potatoes and a slice of parmesan crusted sourdough bread, and a side of cheesy grits. I wish I could say I was happy with everything, but the salmon frittata was not a fan fav for us. The frittata was very dry, and the salmon felt over cooked. I think the roasted tomatoes didn't seem to mesh well with the salmon. This is a chain and they do have quite a nice farmhouse feel inside. I really enjoyed my crab avocado, toast, and it was quite filling! The only big thing that is always disappointing about First watch is the potatoes are made in batches at the beginning of the day. They season them then and serve them through out the day. In my opinion, The potatoes are seasoned with too much salt. So you can't really ask for no salt on your potatoes... That really is a drawback and also a reason why we don't go there very often. read more

This is the second time this has happened so I'm sharing. You can go online and put your name on waitlist. Both times we put our name on as we were pulling into parking lot. It says 5-15 min wait. Yeah!!! Park, go in to check in and told 45min to an hour. It's bait and switch!!! Not one time but TWICE! They were able to take us in as walk-ins on Easter Sunday at 12pm. Most people seemed to have reserved or done the online waitlist via Yelp or their website. We were seated promptly in the room that I presume seemed to open to the outside, but since it was inside, it was a little cramped with the other parties. We ended up ordering coffee, the Trifecta, and the BLT Eggs Benedict with greens. Coffee - the coffee was pretty smooth and served warm enough to drink straight from the canister. They left the coffee canister for us to refill as well as the water. Trifecta - standard breakfast, but it wasn't super filling The BLT Eggs Benedict - solid eggs Benedict! Might get them again next time. Decided to check out another FIRST WATCH since I had such a pleasant experience but this my BF and I did not have such a great experience. He ordered what I had last time and it wasn't such a hit! It was quite small proportion wise! Definitely not for a man and bang for your buck! I ordered a frittata. It was ok. Nothing to write home about. I grew up on frittatas & my Nonna could make these in her sleep! We also ordered the churros! I don't like sending food back but they were raw! We were excited to learn that First Watch now has a location close to us. But our first try was a disappointment. Although the interior design is very nice (upscale for a breakfast joint), the noise level is too high, and that may partly be because of the unfinished ceiling in half of the restaurant. Also, annoying loud music is played over the sound system. So, customers have to speak loudly to one another across their table. Secondly, our food took a long time in being delivered. Although my omelette was tasty, it was cold; obviously having been pre-made and sat while my husband's order was being cooked. We asked for water/no ice and our waitress brought us a little pitcher and 2 glasses. When my hubby asked for a new glass (his was dirty), our waitress was immediately defensive and said all glasses looked that way coming out of their dishwasher, walked away saying she'd bring us plastic. I looked at my glass and it was sparkling clean, debunking what she just said about ALL glasses. In general, she was unfriendly/unwelcoming. While we make it a point to give at least a 20% tip whenever we eat out, my hubby gave less this time. My first time trying this place for my best friend birthday. We went on a Wednesday morning and it was not crowded like I've seen it on weekends. My one friend and I tried the original breakfast- i had the egg whites, chicken sausage, potatoes and toast everything was pretty good. The potatoes was seasoned well only thing I didn't care for the chicken patties as they must've been maple and was a little sweet for my liking. Happy Sunday Brunch! I met my girlfriend here for a boozy brunch to catch up and we were not disappointed! We tried a couple of their fresh cocktails and both had refreshing tastes and came in these cute bottles. Our brunch with the market skillet hash was also delicious and filling. We had a nice balance of the skillet, with a small cup of fruit and a couple of bread slices. Our server was pleasant and responsive, and humored us with our "this or that" questions off the menu and gave us some good recommendations. The only challenge was how busy the place got. We arrived right at 11.30 and had 10-15 minute wait (which wasn't bad). Pro tip - check in online to see if they have a wait but also walk up to the counter and confirm that you arrived. The hostess didn't confirm my phone number when I arrived at the counter and so I didn't realize it was incorrect online, and I didn't get a text message when our table was ready. When I asked again 30 minutes later, she was able to bump us up and we were seated within the next 10 minutes despite the miscommunication. My coworker told me about this place and when I saw the number of reviews, I had to try it. As we were pulling up I put us on the waitlist and it said it'll be 10-15min wait. Came here for brunch with some out of town friends. There were a lot of people waiting but I put my name in and was texted in about 10 minutes. They also have some nice benches outside to wait on. I ordered hot water to drink and it came in a whole dispenser which was nice. But the mug they gave me was dirty and it wasn't until after the first sip that I saw the coffee grounds and fuzz. I was able to get a new mug no problem but that really upset my appetite. When I got to the end of the pitcher it also tasted like coffee. This place also gets super busy so we felt bad having a long meal and could tell the waitress was hovering and tried to rush us. They also never gave us more water when we finished our carafe. The food was fine but it the service was lacking. The waiter had no idea which items were vegan and told us to order a salad with no meat and cheese or to get pancakes. Pancakes contain milk and eggs and are definitely not vegan. When we read thru the menu carefully we easily found a few options that the waiter was clueless about.
