Pretty decent breakfast. It was okay for the price. I was expecting more eggs since the menu said 2 large eggs. Pancake was huge and pretty good. I wouldn't go back again but it was the only place in the area that had decent breakfast.

Million dollar potatoes

Just had my first pumpkin-flavored item of the season--a pumpkin pancake breakfast with a side of the new million-dollar potatoes--and both were absolutely delicious! The iced coffee is my go to every time I come here and I'm not much of a coffee drinker! The service was great too. Although the online check-in mentioned a 15-25 minute wait, we were seated immediately upon arrival. The place has such a charming, small-town farmhouse vibe that really added to the experience!

We saw First Watch next to our bank. Never heard of it. But man, we've been missing out. They have been there for 4 years! Geez. I guess we were sleeping. Our server (who never introduced herself) recommended the Carnitas Breakfast Quesadilla to me. She said she loved it. I had asked about something else and she steered me toward this thing. It was on the summer menu and it was danged fantastic!! The black beans that came with it were a little plain, so I added some Cholula and kicked them up to nice. The roasted corn and jalapeño crema on the quesadilla were a super nice touch. These folks are good! My wife ordered the 1/2 & 1/2 thing. She got a ham and gruyere sandwich that she loved. It was pretty small though. She ordered the 1/2 sweet pecan salad and didn't love it. She left most of it. I had a bite and it was not great. She helped me finish my quesadilla, so she didn't go hungry by only eating the tiny sandwich. Our server was pretty busy, so we can excuse our drinks running dry a couple of times. We'll be back. This place does a good job and it's close to home.

I rarely check out First Watch for a brunch option, but after my recent visit it just may be apart of my top choices going forward. The food and customer service was amazing. The scenery is relaxing and spacious. For anyone looking for a nice place to have brunch, check out First Watch and be sure to get the mimosa

Million Dollar Bloody Mary

First Watch with drinks?! Yes please! Unfortunately, I only took a picture of my Bloody Mary, but everything was so good. (Except the pancakes...which were a little dry. I'll go in order of best to worst! My husband had the biscuits and gravy. I had no idea turkey gravy could be that good. This will be my order next time! I had the traditional...eggs, toast, bacon and potatoes. It was really good. My son had the trifecta...eggs, chocolate chip pancakes and bacon. The only thing he didn't love were the pancakes...but he ate every bite. We sat at the bar. I wish we would have gotten her name. She was friendly and energetic!

Breakfast tacos

Haven't been to a firsts watch in years, the new location in LS was cute small and very trendy inside. They had a large menu of options and the ones we picked were fairly good, the price was average. I got the breakfast tacos and my hubby had the Turkey biscuits and gravy. We would probably split if we did come again soon it was a lot of food.

THANKS ERIC (with a C!!) Our food was nicely plated, temperature perfect and portions were VERY generous. The Classic Breakfast was my choice. Eggs cooked as directed, breakfast potatoes, one smallish, breakfast sausage in natural casing. A steak knife would have been helpful. I don't know the brand of bacon they serve, but it was FABULOUS! Thick sliced, prepared beautifully and mmmm, mmmm GOOD! The plate includes a Cheddar Biscuit. It is BIG and delicious LOOKING! I had to bring it, half of my potatoes and the sausage "to go". My husband ordered the Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit. He was not a fan of the less than tasty sausage. #DIL ordered a Chicken Biscuit - - she shared a bite of the chicken. Let's just say, I KNOW what I will be ordering NEXT time we go. Our grandson ordered his favorite Biscuits & Gravy. HUGE portions, suitable for a growing young man. We will be back! P.S. I stopped in with my girlfriend Lisa, who loves this place so much they basically have a little corner reserved for her. She likes to work from there because the Wi-Fi is good, the vibe is comfortable, and the food is consistently amazing. We sat at the bar, had a couple glasses of wine, and Austin took great care of us. Lisa had the steak special, which was the ribeye, and I had the salmon. Both were really, really great. The salmon was cooked beautifully and the whole meal was exactly why I keep coming back. One small callout: there was a $3 difference between what the salmon was listed for on the menu and what I was charged. I let Austin know so they could catch it for future guests. It did not change my overall experience, but I appreciated being able to mention it. Brandon, one of the co-owners, is amazing. He came out and spoke with us, and that personal touch is part of what makes Roots feel special. You can tell they care about the food, the service, and the people who come in. Their happy hour is amazing, and their seasonal menu changes are superb. I love coming in and trying different things. The salmon tacos are delicious, the birria fries are a must, and I always look forward to seeing what new crostini they are featuring since those change every few months. Roots is consistent without being boring. Great food, great service, great drinks, and a menu that keeps giving you a reason to come back. Can't wait to come back. See y'all next week.

Last fall, I read a very upbeat review of Roots in The Kansas City Star highlighting the two local…read morechefs who came together to open the restaurant about four years ago. The concept immediately caught my attention -- a menu that rotates quarterly, with roughly one-third new dishes, one-third returning favorites, and one-third permanent staples. Since we were in Lee's Summit this evening, the three of us decided it was a good opportunity to try Roots for the first time. Our meal came to $178 before tip, and unfortunately our experience didn't quite match the expectations set by the press coverage and the many five-star reviews on Yelp. We started with two appetizers our server described as menu favorites: the Dirty Martini Mussels and the Chimichurri Potato Skins. Service was friendly, but timing was slower than expected -- it took nearly 25 minutes for the appetizers to arrive, and the dining room was only about a quarter full around 5:30 p.m. The mussels were an interesting interpretation. The broth leaned heavily toward olive flavors and carried a noticeable level of spice, which was quite different from the more delicate white wine and butter profile we typically associate with this dish. The grilled focaccia served alongside, however, was excellent and perfect for soaking up the broth. The chimichurri potato skins were generously topped with roasted chicken and cheddar cheese, though we were surprised to receive four skins for the $17 price point. They appeared baked rather than deep fried, giving them a softer texture than we expected. Entrées delivered mixed results. My daughter ordered the Monday fried chicken special -- a half bird offered at a $10 discount -- and it was a highlight of the evening. She noted the chicken arrived piping hot, with a distinct pickle-brine flavor and a nicely crisp crust. My wife's experience was less successful. Her $39, 8-ounce flat iron steak, ordered medium rare, arrived closer to rare. Since the steak was already sliced, we were surprised this wasn't caught before being served. She also mentioned the risotto carried a chimichurri flavor that felt unexpected alongside the steak. I ordered the 10-ounce grilled pork chop. While the portion size was generous, the dry rub and candied chili relish overpowered the natural flavor of the pork. That said, the sweet potato fries served with the dish were exceptional and one of the standouts of the meal. Roots clearly has an interesting culinary vision and loyal following, and I genuinely wish the restaurant continued success. Based on this visit, however, the experience wasn't quite strong enough for us to plan a return.

We arrived around 5:30pm on a Saturday and were told there would be about a 10-minute wait, so we opted to grab seats at the bar and have dinner there instead. As the evening went on, we learned there are some trade-offs to dining at the bar. As the restaurant filled up, the bar area became increasingly busy and service naturally slowed. Small but noticeable details -- like water refills -- started getting overlooked. I was also surprised our server never checked in with my wife about her Chicken Pasta, especially since she barely touched it. We started with the Caesar Salad, which was excellent. The portion size was enormous -- easily large enough for two people to share -- with crisp romaine, generous dressing, and plenty of shaved Parmesan. I'm a longtime prime rib fan, so seeing it featured immediately caught my attention. The 13-ounce cut arrived perfectly medium rare, exactly as ordered. The meat was exceptionally tender and flavorful, complemented nicely by a rich au jus and a creamy horseradish ("horsey") sauce that added just the right kick. My wife ordered the Chicken Pasta, which arrived as a very generous portion that could easily serve two. The dish featured grilled chicken over pasta in a spicy Asiago cream sauce. Unfortunately, the heat level was stronger than expected and ended up overpowering the dish for her, leaving most of it uneaten. One highlight of the evening was the Double Black Diamond Martini -- an infusion of fresh pineapple with New Amsterdam Pineapple Vodka. At $7.95 during Happy Hour (normally $13.95), it felt like one of the best values on the menu and was refreshing without being overly sweet. The restaurant was packed throughout our visit and clearly has a loyal following. After six years in this location, Firebirds seems to have built a strong customer base.
