Unfortunately I find myself writing a negative review for this dealer .. I bought a 2016 Equinox in August 2022... I took it for a test drive and all seemed well... I decided to purchase it and paid almost $22,000 (after negotiation with an extended warranty).. 6 weeks later while on vacation the engine seized up... I spent the next 7 days in a hotel room in Roanoke Virginia while they rebuilt the engine. That being said I had 2 separate ASA certified mechanics tell me that the car had internal engine problems that should have been detected in the original diagnostic testing. The car ran ok for 2 more months and in mid January the same problem arises and in speaking to a service advisor one the phone I was advised that buying a used car is pot luck and they bear NO responsibility... No Apologies and pretty much told me that I was on my own... All I want is to be made whole.. Beware of buying from this dealership.. The salesman (although pleasant) was your typical stereotype of a used car salesman... BTW... I paid $22,000 cash so I actually screwed myself by not financing read more

This is one of the top dealers. I have purchased over 2 dozen new cars. Staff experienced & friendly. Great service on purchase of 2021 Tahoe. They beat everyone's price in Delmarva I did see people frustrated who obviously had poor credit scores yelling at staff to get financing but dealers in general work really hard on making deals. To those others frustrated at this dealer I can only suggest get your credit score over 750 so you are not misplacing your frustrations. We had a breakdown near first State Chevrolet on Labor Day weekend. It was past closing time and we needed a part. The parts department and service department were closedas would be expected but what we didn't expect was the owner and a mechanic we're still in the building. To our amazement, the mechanic tried to help my husband on his off time. Then the owner loaned us the use of a 4 x 4 truck in order to haul our boat to our campsite. The next day when we returned his vehicle, the dealership would not charge us at all. We were very surprised at how wonderful they were on a holiday weekend. My husband was able to fix our truck and we moved on that weekend. With company coming to our campsite, it would've been nice if we could not of gotten our boat there. On Sunday, December 15, 2013, my prized 2012 Camaro ZL1 took its last breath at 4:47 pm. The car was at First State Chevrolet in Georgetown, DE for paint issues (under warranty). It had been locked in the service bay over the weekend. On Sunday afternoon, an employee of the dealership (service writer) entered the locked building, removed the keys to my car from the service department, and went on a joyride. The car was totaled when he lost control and sheared off a telephone pole. The dealership informed my wife and I on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. of our loss. Yes, they waited over 16 hours to tell us about our car. I am sure they discussed the incident with their attorneys prior to calling us. It is now Friday, the car has been officially totaled by the insurance company, and the dealership is telling us it is not their problem. They even refuse to provide my wife and I (and our insurance company) with their insurance information. I traded in my 2011 SS2 Camaro and sold my 1969 Camaro SS in pristine condition to buy the ZL1. I will never be able to afford another new ZL1, and basically I don't think I should have to be put in the position to have to buy a new one. We trusted First State Chevrolet to use vigilance while our car was in their possession. We can't even have charges pressed against their employee for theft because the car was not in OUR possession when stolen. read more

I had a emergency roadside situation and First State Motors was the choice of my insurance company to come and assist my son on a busy weekend. If this first state motors is not the same or this is misplaced I will take it down if shown another operation using this name. Kid was stranded for 2 hours. After complaining to my insurer about the no show the tow driver decided himself there was too much traffic. Well, thanks for nothing. At least it was daylight. Not impressed. read more

Terrible experience. After test driving a car Alan raised the price on his own 1000 bucks past what the car was listed at. Then when my wife and I corrected him he acted like it had just been changed magically on the computer and he wasn't aware of it. We then attempted to negotiate and after he had to check with "the owner" in another room he reduced the price by 1%, and that was a deal? Then Bill "The owner" as Alan introduced him came out and tried to tell my wife and I that we should have "done our due diligence to check prices on these cars." Bill was just plane rude and I have a feeling they don't sell many cars. Certainly not to me or any one I can advise in the southern DE area. I think these guys don't care and are looking to take advantage of people to make a buck. read more

The most horrible experience that I have ever had with any dealership in my 66 years of life. The integrity of this dealership is very questionable and when I found out that what they said was wrong with my car was a LIE and had IG Burton Diagnosis my car and came up with something completely different I would tell everyone not to ever take a car to this dealership. Purchased a 2016 Chevy Tahoe on Christmas Eve of 2015. LOVE it but was concerned when bank sent late notices a month later for payment. Turns out finance manager never sent contract to bank and sat on desk for over a month. Poor business,but that is not the prime reason for review. Primary reason for review is serviceability of my Tahoe. Up until recently the dealer was able to accommodate my schedule by being open on Saturday for service. Unfortunately my business only enables me to be available on weekend and the dealer, with an appointment, was usually able to service my 1 of 3 Chevrolet's. Today I called to bring vehicle in for service and was advised dealership service is closed on Saturdays. It is the 21st century, dealerships need to be open on Saturday. If they are not busy they need to staff and market in order to build that business. I was going to purchase a 2018 Silverado, but, looks like an F150 is in the cards since they are open on Saturday. read more

This could have been me... I was shopping for a ZL1 last spring at this dealership and was close to deal but couldn't get it done because they completely jerked me around with my trade in value and refused to discount their vehicle. I was planning to buy a $63k car and they wouldn't take $1k off the price! The owner quoted me a price on my trade then when I went to make the deal the used car appraiser told me it was worth $4k less. I got the owner in the office and asked him to honor his word which he refused. They gave me $1500 extra on my trade and a coupon for $1k off a new camaro of my choice. Ya right, like I'll ever do business there... Ever! They deserve everything that's happening to them with this, I hope the Hooper's get everything they deserve and 1st State Chevrolet closes. read more

Brought my Suburban to First State for a fuel leak somewhere within the engine compartment. The car was barely running when I arrived. Called every day for eight days and they were not able to find the source of the leak. Making matters worse, the usual first thing to check is the fuel line--they only did this after the 4th day at my suggestion. So shame on me for thinking they would succeed for eight long days. Finally called a tow service and had the car towed to a reputable repair shop. Also, very difficult to reach the service department personnel--kept on hold for up to 5 minutes many times only to be told they could not locate the service manager. Very, very poor service and lack of knowledgeable mechanics. read more
