If you need an honest mechanic at the beach CJ is your guy! My son's car wouldn't start during senior week and AAA had it towed To CJ's Beach Bays. We were completely vulnerable to being "taken" as it was my 18 year old navigating the situation, however within 15 minutes CJ figured out that it was a missing chip in his key fob that was the problem.... tried the spare key and Voila - problem solved! Zero dollars charged. He easily could have replaced battery, started, alternator etc.... but was honest and helped us, which is a rarity these days. Thank you CJ and staff! read more

Good service at very reasonable prices. Parts are not marked up, labor is a fair rate and employees are very knowledgeable. My only gripe might be not letting you know while your car is on the lift that it might need something else, but waiting until you pick it up. I'm happy for not being pressured into additional services but sometimes I'd rather get it done at the time if possible even it it means keeping the car another day. read more

I relocated to Delaware in Dec 2021. I had my Volvo serviced at the Maryland dealer prior to my move. I treasure my car and it was always serviced by the dealer. Today I had the pleasure of having CJs perform maintenance on my Volvo and I couldn't be more pleased. It started with the wonderful woman I spoke to on the phone about their services. She was extremely helpful. It continued when I showed up for my scheduled appointment. I had a million questions since I was only familiar with dealers. They did a very thorough assessment of my SUV in addition to changing my oil. I had read positive comments about them and heard about their excellent reputation from my neighbors. This is reportedly a AAA approved service shop. I had a vehicle with a transmission problem, and according to AAA, CJ's was listed with them as a shop that could handle the job. So, I agreed to have my car towed to CJ's. I was told that they would get the car up on the lift same day and make a determination on the problem. After not hearing from them that day, or the following day, I called them. I was told that they couldn't do anything with the vehicle and I'd have to get it towed somewhere else. CJ's might do good work, but I never got to experience it. What I did experience was some poor customer service. I don't believe that I should have been the one to call them for a status update; they should have called me as soon as they knew the extent of the problem, so I could make other arrangements. In addition, they should not be listed as a AAA repair shop for transmissions, as they clearly cannot handle that task. read more

I feel so lucky to have been referred to this company. I haven't found someone that I could feel comfortable with until these guys. From the first time I talked on the phone with them, to bringing my car in, asking all the questions about what was wrong and having the owner repeat himself a couple times so I understood what was going on - they were kind, extremely patient and honest with me. I was referred to CJ'S and told to let them know who referred them. Was reassured they do quality work, and they do. The 2 stars less than 5 are for 2 reasons. I took my mom's car in because the brakes were metal to metal. Very fast service, a little steep$ for front only, but impressed with how quick so worth it for convenience. In less than a week there were zero brakes. Called, brought it back, and was told it needed new break lines for additional $280, after already spending $400. I'd have given 5 stars had they checked out the other components and let me know it needed new pads, drums and brake lines prior to the first repairs. $800 on an older model car would have been worth discussing a newer car. My mom is on a fixed income and it really worried her. We'll go ahead, but only to avoid the $ costs to diagnose the issue. I know their work is good, but in my opinion it would be great if we knew ahead of time as opposed to the interim. read more

My husband and I are on vacation in Berlin, MD. Unfortunately, our car started having trouble in Delaware while coming back from a shopping trip and we took AAA's suggestion to tow it to the closest auto repair facility. We were unlucky enough to have it towed to this place. Our triple A driver was really nice and said CJ's would take care of us so we were hopeful. It was 15 minutes before closing time so we didn't expect anyone to look at it that evening but were told by the receptionist that the car would be looked at the following morning. When I entered the place, no one even acknowledged me (they looked straight at me, no greeting or "I will be right with you") so after a minute or so I had to bring it to their attention that I needed help. Okay so I fill out the paperwork and we wait for a call the next day. They open at 8 and finally at 11:30 we call to see what's up. Nobody called us, but the receptionist said someone looked at the car and couldn't find anything wrong with it. She asked a few more questions and said she would call back once she spoke with the mechanics again. Two hours later, we don't hear anything so I call back. I'm told that they haven't even looked at the car anymore. I asked her if they were going to explore any further today and she said she wasn't sure but agreed to call back and let us know. Two more hours go by and I still haven't received a call back. When I call again I'm told that they cannot work on the car for another 3 days. WHY DIDN'T THEY TELL US THAT EARLIER?!? Now we are stranded and were supposed to return home the following day. By the time we get the news they can't look at the car anymore, it will be past closing time if we try to get there and pick up the car. If there had been better communication, we could have had our car properly looked at. It would've been worth the money to get it towed to Mike's Shell in Ocean City. read more

Paul V. checked my trucks computer and let me know what the light indicated. He was very nice and took the time to figure out what was wrong. Confronted with the need for a $1100.00 complex part from the dealer, CJ made a half dozen phone calls and found just the part of the dealer part that would solve the problem. That part was only $27.00. We have used CJ's a half dozen times. The service is personal, professional, fairly priced, and exceptional. Five Stars! read more

I had a bad first experience with this shop and I think people in the area should know about this. My cars engine light turned on and I took it to the autozone near home depo. They plugged the thing in that tells you whats wrong with your car and told me it had a po304 code. They said they dont fix cars there and told me that I should get it fixed. I made an appointment with CJs and when I took the car in they told me it was $84.95 to scan the car with the computer and that on top of that they would also charge me for finding out what was wrong. I said they dont have to hook the computer up, autozone already told me that it had a po304 code. I told them thats ok to find out whats wrong but I dont need to also pay for the computer to be hooked up. The person behind the counter got ignorant with me when I explained that autozone did the same thing for free. They told me that I would have to either pay the $84.95 to hook the computer up or take my car elsewhere. I missed a half day of work and didnt even get the car fixed. I think its ridiculous that they would charge $84.95 for the same thing that autozone does for free. I will not be doing business with them again. I have an appointment with another shop on Friday and if that goes good I will share my experience with them. read more

My wife and I heard some sounds in the FRONT of our Ford Edge. We took our car to these people and "thought" we should be okay because they have several ASE certificates over the counter. I asked them to take the car for a test drive and get back to us. They recommended the car get new REAR wheel bearings, REAR wheel bearing and hub assembly and a front axle shaft assembly. These parts were refurbished or rebuilt "R&R". They also charged us for a front CV driveshaft. When we got the car back it was as if they did nothing to the car at all. We took it back. I rode in the front seat next to a service tech and pointed out the problem that was still wrong with the car. When we got back to the shop they said it was not covered under the warranty because these were different problems. I had asked "THEM" to drive the car and tell us what was wrong. I asked if they had test driven the car after their repairs and they said they had.  Well $1362.60 later and we still have the same problems with the car. But now they wanted to charge us more for the "NEW" problems. I feel that if they could not get it right the  first time, why would we give them a chance to make the same mistake again. They could not diagnose this problem after driving the car and putting it on a lift. But I was supposed to trust them again. I would not recommend this shop to any one. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP! read more
