I had written a previous review. My wife said it was too much so I took it down and revised it. The food was amazing. They do serve some serious nachos! The portions for most of the food is deceptively large and all scratch recipes. You will be leaving with take-out boxes for sure. The Service was pretty awesome. Last summer, my wife and I discovered First State, which at the time was still new. Dallas was our server the first time that we ate at First State, and then we were lucky enough to have him again this time and he remembered us. Before we could get a word out he said "Hey, welcome back!" like we had been friends for years. BEST SERVER EVER! Extremely attentive without crowding our table. Very knowledgeable. I suspect that that is a reflection of the whole staff. The hostess was pleasant. A bit quiet but pleasant. The bartender, Joel (?), seemed fun and engaging. He welcomed everyone like they were regulars, and really looked like he was enjoying his job. Even the young kid that dropped our food was on point, setting our dishes in the right places without asking. Making sure that we didn't need anything before he left. The whole experience was great. I'm a fan and we will be back. The atmosphere and vibe was fun and relaxing. Not your standard rush to order, eat fast, and "here's your bill" sit down restaurant. The restaurant is very clean and it is open and spacious. The place has that great neighborhood brewpub vibe feel. We LOVED the beer label walls! I want to do that in my man cave! Awesome idea. The large TVs were playing a variety of sports. The music was pretty good. Maybe a touch loud. They have live music that seemed to be setting up as we were leaving. Apparently they have live music every Friday and Saturday. We wish that we could have stayed. Dallas said that the band coming in that night was pretty popular. All in all, First State was a fun, and delicious dining experience. my only criticism would be that it is a bit pricey. I understand that scratch restaurants are going to be more expensive, but charging someone for a small container of sauce seems a little like nickel and dime budgeting. Was in the Rehoboth Beach area for the first time with the family for a mini vacation. We had our "picky eater" daughters with us so based on the menu it looked like First State had a few options to their liking. The inside was nice with a bit of a sports bar feel. Our meal included: - Marinier Mussels (shared) - Brewhouse Pretzel (my wife loves pretzels) - Brewhouse wings (shared) - Cheese Burger + Fries (for our youngest) - Birria Flatbread (for our oldest) Overall the food was good and everyone enjoyed what they had. I had one of their dark beers (I think it was a chocolate porter) and my wife had a margarita. The girls wanted something sweet so they got the chocolate cake and a Smores Cheesecake. I think this was their favorite part of the meal because they were slightly reluctant to share. The wait staff were great and very attentive. You'd think a place like this would be able to make a decent burger. They failed . Waiter asked how I wanted it, I said medium, but it came out well done. And the bacon was overcooked too. This was a Saturday at dinner, maybe 2/5 full so it's not like it was crowded and the kitchen was slammed. Food took too long to come out also, but now I know why, they were overcooking the burger. Slaw was ok, wouldn't get it again. And, I didn't order fries but still got two of them on my plate. The salad was fine. Beer choices were good. Looks like a place to watch a game and throw back a few cold ones but I would not eat here again. Waiter was minimally polite, and it seemed like he had better things to do at times. read more

Yummy, yummy!!! I went here with some friends right after a long drive. And we were starving!! I loved that they let us sample the beers flight style. I ended up getting their sour, which was very good. To eat I got the crab grilled cheese & fries - both delicious!!! I loved it, 2 things I love crab cakes + grilled cheeses, & I can confirm together they're even better! They have unique dipping sauces- I got a queso for my fries, I left absolutely stuffed with still half my sandwich left. The service was pretty quick, & our waiter was friendly! I initially had some apprehensions when I saw the big tvs showing sports, but, First State Brewing kept them at a reasonable volume. I really liked their vibe, even if I had to explain to my family multiple times what hops are, and why that's what the hanging lights looked like. We came in as a party of six, and there was something for everyone. Two people ordered the Blue Hen, so maybe consider that for your next visit. read more

I had a great dining experience at the bar on a Thursday night. It wasn't too crowded. The atmosphere is really chill, with great 90s alternative music. The fried deviled eggs were amazing! I will def be back to order more of them. I got a burger (2 patties) and oh man, so delicious! I rarely get burgers because I usually find them so so. This place has a great burger! The bar tenders were attentive and friendly. A nice addition to Lewes/Rehoboth dining. Will be back again with the family! They have a bunch of games that people can play too. We needed a late night bite to eat, and when everything else was closed, First State was there for us! We tried the crab Rangoon egg rolls (enough said) and their wings. Both were delicious. Ended the meal with some regionally famous strawberry pretzel dessert, which was good. As someone who grew up eating this, I would say that the pretzels were not as crispy as I was hoping, and the topping could have had more fresh strawberries, but it was still really good. Our waitress was also SO kind and friendly. We chatted with her for a while just to chat. Didn't try any of the beer, but we'll be back at some point to do so! read more

The beer was decent and the bartender was attentive; he repeatedly checked in on us and we didn't have to wait for another drink. I prefer hazy IPA's and they didn't have any on tap so that was slightly disappointing. We only stopped for a beer, but the food coming out of the kitchen looked good. They also have great screens for watching the games, but it feels more commercialized overall and my preference is small business ownership. We went here for a ladies lunch and there were 18 ladies who showed up for lunch. They allowed us to each have our own checks. We had a very nice young lady as a server and she did a fantastic job. The resteraunt is very nice and clean. I am not a fan of high top tables, especially when it was a group of ladies mostly pushing mid-60's, but they also have a decent number of lower tables. Everyone loved their food, many ladies had the mussels and said they were good. I had a Caesar salad with grilled chicken, lots of cubed chicken and very tasty. At my table they also had a Cuban sandwich, she said it was good and she is an expect. It was all very good and I would go again. And one extra perk is there a parking lot so easy parking! read more

Last evening we had the pleasure of eating @ First State Brewing Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach and it was FANTASTIC! We were greeted right away and seated in the very clean, well lite, pleasant atmosphere. We were greeted by our waiter Adi and welcomed us with a wonderful greeting and from the minute we got there until we left he went above and beyond to make sure our dinner and drinks were served correctly and made sure we were taken care of professionally, correctly and always with a smile. Our meals were incredible. We ordered there signature the Kitchen Sink to share between 3 of us to start and ask for 3 plates to share, extra dressings and everything was given as asked and the salad was perfection. We all had plenty to share and was a perfect appetizer for us all to share. Than we all ordered three seperate dinners, one chicken sandwich, one goat cheeseburger sandwich & order of short rib nachos and we totally enjoyed all three dishes and still took some home to enjoy again the next day. Our dishes were all presented beautifully and the manager Sharon even help the waiter serve the dishes with a friendly smile and made sure we were all set and checked on us throughout our meal. We were very impressed with the whole atmosphere of the restaurant and really saw that the whole staff takes pride in the cleanliness of the restaurant and how well everything is taken care of. From the minute we walked in until we left eating an incredible meal we were super impressed and cannot wait to return. We are from NY and are here 2 years and can finally say we found a wonderful restaurant from here on in to go enjoy a wonderful meal. Fun menu. More than just the few burgers and the usual seafood you'd find elsewhere. Actually worth stopping in. Get a beer flight, try a couple things. There's more than a few really good ones. Great creative mixed drinks. Ambitious but successful. Wait staff was helpful and knowledgeable. Plenty of parking, easy to find, easy to access. There's high and low tables, and booths. Ordered the goat burger, which is a hamburger with goat cheese, a LOT of goat cheese, and other toppings. However the burger arrived undercooked and with no seasoning/no flavor. Spouse ordered the same with the two smash burgers. His looked like the two McDonald's $1 burgers on an oversized brioche bun. Had salads for sides and the dressing tasted like pure oil. I was disappointed. I found the food to be average. I beer, the boozy iced coffee and fries were the best part of the meal. The diabolo mussels were prepared well and had a nice heat but not much flavor. The focaccia served with the mussels appeared to be stale. The bread was dry and crumbly and was cold on the inside. The hamburger was unseasoned and did not blend well with the Cabot cheddar. The cuban sandwich was good but definitely not exceptional. The bread appeared to be stale and was tough on the bottom. I would suggest sticking with the cocktails, beer, and appetizers. We found the service to be good and the ambiance was nice. read more
