Shawn and Omar from FDS Security cameras are STILL helping me years after they first helped me access and repair a security camera system in a home I bought in Orange County. They are one of the only security camera professionals that knew how to fix and update the type of cameras there were hard wired all over my property. Then, a couple years later we hired them again to install two more cameras. Shawn's prices are reasonable and he and Omar seemed to be technically more savvy than other security techs my husband and I spoke to and got estimates for. They are not afraid to help you even if you have a different security cameras already set up and you don't need to buy the cameras they offer. This is the sign of a real knowledgeable camera technician. Everyone else could only work on or fix one type of camera system-the one they sell. I have no doubt Shawn's systems are the best and probably better than what we had already had installed in our home, but they were able to work with what we had and even improve it! Just today, a year after the last time we used Shawn and his company FDS, I called for help because I got a new phone and forgot to transfer the camera app and all the info from my old phone to my new phone. Very disappointing. Cameras, doorbell system works well. However, inside wires were excessive and left on the floor -- against fire code. Worse, an iron gate where a buzzer was installed was left insecure to the point where anyone could walk by and could open it with their finger. When we asked the company to fix it, they did not seem to know what to do and there was no further response for over a week. We hired another team to fix both issues as we urgently needed to keep our space secure and safe. Now the company is haggling over the bill. I would very much like to resolve the situation amiably, but also feel very much taken advantage of. Note: I don't know why the review says San Francisco. This is in L.A. read more

I have to mention that my 1 star review is one of MANY for this company. Please take a look. I meant to write this review a few months ago when I was shopping for a new surveillance system for my business. Shawn, the owner, was polite and seemed like a nice person. I told him I was seeking a competitive price and would be doing comparisons with other providers. My main complaint with Shawn is that I would describe him as a bit dishonest. He took a long time acting like he really cared about how fair his offer was going to come out and promised a competitive bid but when his bid came in, it was SO MUCH above all the others by almost 30% !! We talked politely on the telephone and Shawn said it was his best offer. I tried to say why is it SO much more than the others, and he really didn't have an answer. He could not give any reason why his offer was SO, SO high, and now he really did not seem to care, either. I felt like he wasted my time-- because he talked for such a long time the first conversation, like he was such a caring person, but I feel he was trying to rip me off. It's not the initial service that turns sour... It's AFTER SERVICE that will whack you with a huge bill. Everyone will need after service, when system goes down, change of modem that require resetting, etc. That's when the experience turns into The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as Shawn turns into a totally different person. I called for quotes for a 16 camera system for an apartment complex. First Digital's price was the lowest. With such a small profit margin, I wasn't expecting much. Instead, I was pleasantly impressed. First off, the quoted equipment was better than expected. Then, Shawn walked the job a second time the day before the job to ensure everything would go smoothly. This was an unexpected level of professionalism. On the date of installation, Shawn showed up on time and work began promptly. The workers moved quickly and efficiently, being respectful of the tenants (attic hatches are inside certain tenant units). As can occur in any complex job, something went wrong. Shawn took immediate responsibility, and the issue was promptly resolved to everyone's satisfaction. We have a system set up by Shawn (Operations Manager). The system is not working and many calls and requests have been put in to Shawn and the office personnel to fix our system. They answer and say they will get back to us but never do, but yet they keep billing for a system that does not work and they refuse to fix this system. They refuse to return calls. They now refuse to answer calls. Today they said they would send an email regarding these issues and we still have not received this correspondence. They are not reliable. When I call asking for them to do their job, Shawn says I am rude and demanding and then he is rude and hangs up on me. Is it rude and demanding to ask for the service you pay for???? They are totally unreliable and unresponsive. They do not do what they say they will do when they make a commitment. I have been waiting for the email that I was supposed to get to end the contract that I have attempted to end on several occasions and now when I call Shawn's cell he has switched it to the answering service and they are not answering and when they do answer they hang up on me. read more

This company quoted me about $3200 to install a camera system including 11 cameras, the hard drive system and all the cable and labor for installation. My daughter met with a man names Sean who went to my home so he could quote me a price. I talked to him the day he came for a walk around the property which included four new camera locations. The next day I received a quote of about of $3230.25 that was supposed to include all the equipment and labor. After completing the work I received a bill for $5064 nearly $2000 more than the original quote. When I complained I was told it took an extra technician and more material to complete the job! They demanded immediate payment. The original quote did not state in any way the job would cost more! When we tried to adjust the figure they balked at what I wanted and the last email I received stated "see you in court." Be very wary of this company. read more

First of all this has been a headache since I bought my cameras .. With the maintaince fees every month and the overpriced fee to fix any issue .. Shawn has even shut down my service a few times because he didn't get paid for his fees which I never got invoices for ..putting the saftety of my employees and my business in jeopardy .. I wanted to help him out by giving him another job with my landlord and then he overcharged me to move a few cameras when his crew was there already doing the job I gave him .. I had an issue with my cameras recently and he made me go through crazy hoops to even get a service call,then to come out he wanted $150.00 an hour to check it out .. He has really no idea how to treat past customers.. I still have no service .. I will never use his service again .. He has made it too difficult and expensive ..
