I loved this spot !!! We were in search of a spot to eat after visiting the Eiffel Tower and came across Firmine, it's in the heart of the block located near the tower. The atmosphere is excellent and makes a great spot for multiple people with inside and outside dining. The service was excellent. The waiter was very attentive and made sure we understood the menu and explained the restaurant's specials and signature dishes. We ordered an array of items because we were hungry and we all wanted to try different items. We decided to go with a french onion soup, escargots and a large pizza with onions, peppers, pepperoni, cheese and ham. The escargot was very flavorful, garlicky and buttery and perfect texture. Excellent to start off if you want an authentic French dish. The soup was exceptional. The melted cheese on top came apart with every spoonful which is exactly what I was looking for because no one wants to rip the cheese with your fingers from your soup because it balls up into one piece. Nope!!! not this one, made it much easier to eat and tasty. The pizza was excellent, the crust perfect! not to thick, great combination of soft in the inside yet toasty on the outside. Cheese melted perfectly, ham and pepperoni tasty with hints of pepper but the peppers and onions really made the pizza come alive. This place was A-OK ... like the three star Yelp rating states. It is located in the area of the Eiffel tower. I had hopped of one of those touristy double decker buses (don't judge me) and walked about a block to Firmine, which is easy to spot walking down the street as its exterior aesthetic is pleasing and just looks welcoming. It looked cute, it looked busy, so my travel partner and I ate here. We selected a table and were greeted by our server, a mature lady, who I think might have been irritated with us. We didn't much speak French so she was very quick with us, however, another table next to us did speak fluent French and she was super attentive with them. Oh well, it is Paris ... this was just the one restaurant where our server fit the stereotype of what to expect as a tourist. Okay. No big whoop. It was an experience. I order the calzone, which was MASSIVE. It was beautiful, big and tasted like a big ol' Hot Pocket. Being hungry at the time, it tasted really good the first few bites and then I started remember my high school years when Hot Pockets were the "go to" food of choice. I just had a really, really big one in front of me. It filled me up and was edible. So, if you like Hot Pockets, you will love this. Also, the food came out pretty fast which was helpful with more sightseeing on that double decker bus in store (seriously, stop judging me.) I also ordered a cafe au lait which was good ... a typical cafe au lait. The interior of the restaurant was adorable and comfortable. We are staying Mercure Hotel and decided to eat here to kill some time while waiting to check in our room. It was a 8 min walk from our hotel. the spaghetti bolognese which was tasty and this other dish with an egg yolk which was delish. The egg yolk gave it a creamier rich flavor to the pasta. This is a good 4.5 star place although when you walk in you may think it is a 3 star place because the atmosphere is so casual and there are signs for pizza everywhere. However when the food comes you will realize what a great place you have stumbled upon!!! I got the lasagne which was fantastic. The kids got spaghetti and loved it. We went to this place last night as our hotel is quite nearby. We always see a bunch of people in here and the Yelp reviews speak highly of that. While the service took a bit of time due to the busy-ness, they make up in the food. My son got the adult spaghetti with bolognese which he finished from the first string to the last. I got the Palmera pizza which had pepperoni, sausage and peppers and a cooked egg right smack in the middle. First time I'm seeing this and the pizza was piping hot and not too much dough :). My wife got the antipasti salad along with French onion soup. I had some of the soup and it hit the spot with the nice oniony flavor infused. All in all, this joint is recommended. Service was very fast, rushed and has NYC prices, which is weird since everything else in Paris was at least 3-5 euros cheaper. Paid $325 Euros for 5 entrees and a few drinks. The previous night we paid 150 Euros for a similar meal. Don't waste you money. However, the service is great. Thanks to Yelp, the reviews looked good and we were willing to risk it. I have to say, this was a fantastic meal!! We got the mushroom penne pasta, pesto pasta, and Margherita pizza. The food here is above par, the staff is attentive and friendly to tourists, and the atmosphere is inviting. A friend and I had almost eaten elsewhere for dinner, and after noticing it seemed a little off (and definitely a tourist trap), we were happy to find solace at Firmine. I had the pasta carbonara: purely decadent white sauce and yolky goodness served up with pancetta and parmesan cheese. My friend had the beef ragu, which was also very well-portioned and the exact right amount of food for dinner. Most American places overload you with food, so the manageable meal sizes in Paris really open your eyes to how much you actually need to eat to be full.
