Had my car towed there because my son couldn't get it to start and couldn't jump it. They failed to tell me it would take 5 days to look at it, when they did they told me that I needed a new battery. I informed them that I just replaced it 2 months previously. After agreeing to change it because they said that was the problem it still wouldn't start and couldn't get computer to work to figure out what was wrong. They said I needed to have it towed elsewhere. I agreed to it and they said they'd have it towed today. Two days later it was finally towed to the Jeep dealer who fixed it in 5 minutes because it was a simple fuse. I'm out $411.00 to Firestone for battery I didn't need or would take back after it didn't work plus fees to look at it when they couldn't even fix it. I've always taken my cars to other Firestone stores in Illinois where I live. This location cheated me because of that and caused great distress to my son who's a student at IU. My family and I have always taken my car here for everything from a simple nail in my car, oil change, replacing all my tires to fixing my breaks. I've always had good customer service. Last time I received my oil change in October, I had a 7 am oil change appointment; where I was greeted very rudely on the phone and in person. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, since maybe the woman was having a bad day. I would've been fine, if I was told my 45 minute promise time would turn into almost 2 hours of waiting at the seats. Found out today that there was a leak in my tire and I wanted to give them another chance. Nope, it was my mistake; I shouldn't have called. The person on the phone was very rude and short. I don't know what happened with this place, but I've learned my lesson. It's not worth coming back to a place that doesn't treat you well. read more

My car began making sounds in the back when I pressed the brakes. I scheduled an appointment for an oil change and brake inspection. I dropped off my car and was called back with the diagnoses that my back brakes needed replaced and my drum "had a gash in it". They quoted me just a few dollars shy of $600. He proceeded to tell me that my car was not safe and I needed it done immediately. My husband called them back and they had added to the list that my shocks were out and could be done for $1400. I went, paid for my oil change and took the car to a different shop. After a good looking over it was determined that my brakes were 100% ok and they had dirt in them. $50 for labor and cleaning and my car runs just fine. I was told by the shop that if you are older or a woman they will make unnecessary repair suggestions to scam you out of money. read more

I made a huge mistake giving my business to these folks. I took my car in a couple months ago and the incompetent mechanics replaced my oil filter with the wrong size, causing my oil to unnecessarily leak as a result, among other things they messed up on. I always go to this Firestone for oil change and other kind of service for my car. But this week they pissed me off. I sent my car in for a/c problems on Monday. And during the day they called me and told me it would cost me $210 to fix the problem. Fine. I paid for it and when I got the car, the a/c was working. However, when I was on the road on Wednesday, it stopped working. So I went back to the store and was told that I need to wait until Friday so that there was somebody who were eligible to check the a/c problems. And to be honest, I sincerely think they would charge me $200 again. I do not have that much money to pay Firestone $200 every week. I decided I would try another auto service this time. And if anybody know which auto service in Bloomington is a definitely better place for A/C repair, please let me know. read more

These guys were great and honest. We were passing through town, and stopped in out of necessity. Someone at a rest stop told us we had a wobbly tire. We dropped the car off here and then we went out to lunch at Five Guys. When we got back, they had checked out our car and communicated that the specific technician we would need wasn't in today. Appreciate the prompt service and communication. They charged us a very small fee to check it out. They also recommended that we should take a U-Haul to take our car home to fix it. There was a lot more wrong with our car than we originally thought. We had to get back home to work, so they didn't end up working on our car, but they encouraged us to tow it home instead of driving it to be safe. I'd recommend them. read more

unprofessional, deceptive marketing, poor work I took my Honda CR-V in with expectation that I would need a brake job. I got a call from a mechanic there who said I would need new brake pads, at a cost of $270. I said ok. Then an hour later someone who said he was the service manager called and said I also needed new rotors at an additional cost of $309. I suspect this is a marketing scam to lure customers in to an expensive repair. However, I agreed to this additional charge. Then when I picked up my car the parking brake did not work anymore; At that point I was treated like a pest and had to come in and wait the next day. The brake was improved, but not returned to former performance. The brake job itself was fine, but this is my last trip to this company. A few years ago I had my oil changed and the mechanic left the oil cap off, spraying oil everywhere. Not much has changed. I think they hire kids off the street to be mechanics and are under a lot of pressure to turn over cash. read more

I brought my car in on Saturday having already replaced the battery since the previous one didn't seem to hold a charge. I had already had help from AAA, during which time my car's AC compressor suddenly and very loudly let out all the freon after the most recent jump start. The AAA guy had no idea what happened and suggested this Firestone shop. I drove in and they took the car right away. However, I had to leave the car overnight. A little after midday the next day, I got a call that the car was fixed, as well as a clear description of the problems. It turned out that a small electronic switch in the AC compressor had malfunctioned, causing it to stay in the on position and constantly drain the battery even if the ignition was off. This also caused the compressor to have excessively high pressure, so that when the car was restarted, the pressure triggered a valve to open (as it should with too much pressure) and released all the freon. Mystery solved! A $22 part caused a huge mess. I am fairly happy with the work. My main reservation is that the cost for replacing the freon seemed quite excessive ... $200 just for that. The final bill was well over $300. Ouch. That, plus the unnecessary battery from AAA made for a costly weekend (about $450 all told). Everyone at the shop was nice, and I appreciated the mechanic's detailed explanation. read more

I really want to give 0 star if possible. A extreme bad experience! Upon requested by the person who want to buy my car, I had a car inspection there for $21.99. They reported that there is engine oil leak from a gasket. Are you kidding me? Dealer fixed my engine oil leak problem half a year ago by replacing a gasket. And I just had a thorough maintenance($1500) done at World Wide Auto(the most professional auto repair for international cars in Bloomington) last week. Are you telling me that you are more reliable than dealer+WWA? I then asked to talk to a technician to confirm which gasket it is. The cashier refused!!! She said dealer may use a different wording system; these two gaskets may be the same but can also be different. She told me to ask dealer are they the same or different. WTF?! If you don't tell me which it is, what is the meaning of doing an inspection? I read the inspection report again, then I found "preventive"!!! It means this problem isn't there, Firestone think it will be problematic. The cashier repeated 21.99 impatiently. I said give me a minute and let me discuss with my potential buyer who is going to pay for the inspection fee. The cashier took way the key in front of me very rudely and showed me an unhappy face. She also printed out an estimation and told me that they can have the gasket replaced for $300. Then I said I want to talk to dealer first and rejected her. Unhappy face again!!!! Hey, I have the freedom not to waste my money okay? Think about why an auto repair located at college mall can offer an inspection in 21.99 such a low price! Inspection in other places usually costs $90. They want to attract people and earn money from "preventive" repair!!! read more

Good desk service, but poor workmanship. Scheduled an appointment at 2 for a flat tire, they asked me when I needed it back by, I said 4. Four came and went and they finally had my tire back to me by 4:45. Said it was merely a loose bead and nothing was wrong with the tire (though they charged me for a tire repair). Within a few hours my tire was deflated again. Took my car to the dealer the next day and they found the problem and fixed it for good within 20 minutes. Firestones in general are the absolute worst rip off crap hole auto service centers ever. Even worse than Pep Boys (didn't think that was even possible.) I got ripped off big time by them in California, but I won't go into that here since this is about the Bloomington one. My girlfriend goes here for oil changes, I have no idea why, they take forever. Six months ago she got a qoute from these morons for rear brakes. They quoted her $500. Ridiculous! I made her call a couple other places and we got it done for half that. Seriously. She went there today for tires (even though I begged her to go to Tiemans). Instead of changing the three tires on the car, and the flat one in the trunk. When she got the car back she realized that they had put a new tire on the spare instead of the flat one in the trunk, even though she told them it was a spare, and even though it was the only one that LOOKED LIKE THE SPARE (no hubcap, etc.) So she told them and they put some old tire on the spare hub, probably not the one that was on there which was in excellent shape (another hint that it was the spare). They also charged her $50 for labor!!! WHAT?!?!!! I just got new tires a couple weeks ago, and (what a surprise) they didn't charge me for labor. Asa a matter of fact, I've been driving for 21 years and have never been charged for labor when I bought new tires. These guys are the absolute worst!!!! I have been a customer of Firestone in a few different cities where I have lived and in every case have been given very good service and never felt taken advantage of. I use to work on my own car as much as possible, so I know a little more than the average customer. The Bloomington store on College Mall gives great service at reasonable prices and the management is easy to work with if you have questions or concerns. Was in Bloomington on a Sunday and got a flat tire and needed to leave town that night. This Firestone was able to patch my tire that afternoon. I did have to wait about four hours but I was just happy to be able to get it fixed on a Sunday. This was honestly my only experience with this shop but it was a positive experience. read more

Pathetic Service !! I went to fix an issue of acceleration loss. They couldn't fix the issue completely and charged me $600. In addition, they screwed up my low beam light which didn't work after they returned the vehicle. They then quoted a $500 bill to fix the light issue and the remaining part of the acceleration loss issue. They try to fish money from customers. Please don't go to Firestone. They did estimate for repair brakes( already changed from other shop) and estimated for repair $760. Also, estimated for changed synthetic oil $120!! Changed same day at other shop. Bigger rip off was for tires: price was $185 for two front tires. They charged me $387. Worst ever shop. Got a call 35 minutes later telling me I needed $732 worth of additional work done. Picked up car, took to another garage. My husband brought our car in because it was jerking badly and we wanted to know if it could be fixed and how much it would be. Our car is old, we were debating on weather or not we should get a new one if the costs would be too expensive. Firestone called us, letting us know that fixing it would be $500 and we could pick it up the next day. We went with it, being excited that it wouldn't take long to get the car back. A week after we picked up our car, the same jerking happened, we called Firestone to ask why this would happen so shortly after we got it fixed. The guy on the phone said that there is something bigger that needs to be done to fix the issue completely which would cost another $900. I was so mad! They basically put a little (but quite expensive) band aid on our car instead of fixing the real issue. If we would have known that we had to get another repair done a week apart which would total up the costs to $1400 we would have not done it. Now we are getting a new car, even though we JUST spent $500 on the old one. I'm really disappointed and feel ripped off by firestone. We will not go back to get anything fixed anymore. read more

I brought my car into Firestone because smoke was coming out of my back left tire area. The first time I brought it in they looked at the brakes and told me that they looked like they have been heating up so they adjusted everything and told me to bring it back if that didn't work. A few days later it started happening again (but to a lesser extent after the adjustment), if i drove for a short amount of time it was fine, but if i drove for ~30min I would start to smell something burning. I brought the car in on a Friday at 9am and by 11 they called and told me that they were able to replicate the problem and that my back left brakes weren't releasing all the way. They charged me about $350 for parts and labor and also changed my two front tires ($260) and rotated them for free. The only reason I gave then 4 stars instead of 3 is because I don't know if they either didn't try to replicate the problem the first time or were unable to replicate it because I had to drive for a while before anything happened. In the long run they fixed my car, were very polite and helpful, and I'm happy. read more

We had tires repaired here twice with no problems. Then we had the rear brakes on our truck replaced (pads, calipers, rotors all were replaced), and this experience was not so good. It cost over $800, which we didn't complain about. The next day my husband found the emergency brake not working; it worked fine before we dropped the truck off for brake service. He called that day and was told that the guy who worked on the truck was off and my husband should call back the next day to talk to him. After calling the next day, my husband dropped the truck off again. After a couple of hours, he received a call that the emergency brake was corroded and needed to be replaced. It took most of the day for this repair, and it cost another $200 to replace the cables on the emergency brake. When my husband questioned the man about why this wasn't done at the same time the brakes were replaced, the guy said "I told them to write it down, but they must not have done it." DUH! Why didn't the repairman call us while he had the brakes torn apart to tell us this needed to be done? After talking with a mechanic in the family, we were told that either they wanted to charge us another round of labor OR possibly the repairman forgot to adjust the emergency brake when he put everything back together and was trying to cover himself. Whatever happened, there was no excuse for not dealing with the situation while the guy had everything torn apart. He had to physically handle the emergency brake while working on the back brakes. Other than tire repair, we will never shop here for tires or have any other work done. We feel we were scammed! read more
