On 1/17/2026, Saturday, it was snowing in New Jersey. I was driving on highway and just got to know my car's blue liquid finished. It was very dangerous because my car front window was blurry. I immediately exited to the local and found this car repair store. The store mechanic filled the blue liquid into my car for me. They didn't charge me . it is totally free! Our car broke down nearby, so we had it towed to the Firestone in Berkeley Heights. When we arrived, we were told they wouldn't be able to inspect the car for at least three days. Fortunately, the tow truck driver was kind enough to take it to a local repair shop that could look at it the next day. I used to bring my cars to Firestone, but each visit seemed to end with a long list of additional repairs. I'd recommend choosing a highly rated local shop instead. read more

Humanity is dead. I showed up with a flat tire. I had an extra in the trunk. Manager says it's against policy to install a used one. I told him I bought it from Goodyear and it's "like new" with a high tread. He tries to talk down to me and says "listen I'm not gonna do it but you can buy one or go to the gas station." After trying to sell me there's, they didn't have one and sent me to the gas station where I waited 2 hours for them to tell me they don't have the proper balancing machine for my car and that Firestone should know that because they usually send my type of car to them. For Gods sake if not a tire shop, where else to get your tire changed? I ended up calling triple A and having to get it towed after hours at this point. All this could have been avoided if you get your stick out your ass and dedicate 20 minutes of your time to help a person out. And by "help" I mean take my paying service. It's not a charity. Be a decent human being and not leave me stranded, it's the bare minimum. Don't trust these guys for anything. Believe me they give no shits but how to get their sales up higher. read more

This is sort of "Part II" of my last review of AAA and my ruined tire (which became ruined thanks to a pothole/crater on the NJ Turnpike). Once AAA put on the spare tire (I was advised not to travel over 50 miles on it), as dawn brightened the sky following my sleepless night, I drove over to my regular mechanic, Valley Automotive in Stirling. I have nothing but good things to say about Valley, but they're usually not open on weekends, with the exception of "the 1st Saturday of the month." Given the recent holidays, I wasn't sure whether this particular Saturday constituted the "1st Sat. of the month" or not. As it turns out...not. I sat for a half hour in their parking lot before realizing that they weren't going to be open. Truth be told, as good as they are, I wasn't really sure this was the place to get a new tire. Last time I bought tires was 10 years ago for a lesser car from another mechanic; they cost me $600, which I considered back then a very steep price. Obviously, mechanics weren't an option. There was a Mavis store near me (Mavis seems to be as ubiquitous in NJ as Dunkin Donuts or Domino's Pizza), but I've heard mixed things about them (more bad things than good, although my birth mother in north Jersey has only good things to say about the Mavis in East Rutherford). Looking with increasing desperation at Google on my phone, I saw the Firestone in Berkeley Heights. I've driven down Springfield Avenue countless times, but never really noticed their store. Given my current situation, I was belatedly noticing it now. I figured if Firestone didn't work out, Mavis would be my last option. (As an aside, interesting item about Berkeley Heights; they have a road named...I'm not making this up...after the late Nick Delmore, the former boss of the DeCavalcante Mafia family. During Prohibition, Delmore operated a roadhouse in Berkeley Heights, and was suspected of being involved in the murder of Prohibition agent John Finiello in nearby Elizabeth in 1930 during a raid on one of his breweries. Delmore was also involved in local Republican politics when he wasn't attending to his underworld operations. I've always been amazed that the road still has his name on it, but I guess when you have a lying sociopathic grifter as President of the U.S., when you erect statues "honoring" treasonous racists in the South, that the naming of a street after a Mafia Don in suburban NJ is no big stretch. Maybe it was more the Republican affiliation than it was the Mafia pedigree. Anyway...digression over...) Inside Firestone, I explained my problem to manager Tom, who, after some questions, told me they could have the tire delivered in an hour or so. He was upfront about what it would cost. He recommended some nearby dining establishments (Dunkin or Goodman's Deli) as places where maybe I could cool my heels while waiting for the tire. Since I really didn't have much of an appetite (especially after hearing what I was going to have to pay), I opted for the Dunkin. Returning to Firestone after my bagel and coffee, I waited in the lounge area, reading and/or watching "All Girls Garage" on the TV (in spite of my agitation, fetching Faye Hadley captured my withered old heart in just a few minutes, tattoos notwithstanding!). A few hours later, my tire was in the store and on my car. Asked if I wanted an alignment for an additional fee, I agreed. My worst fear had been that I would be told the tire wouldn't be in for days. Instead, the work was done in a relatively short period, and I was back on the road that very afternoon. Initially, I was going to give Firestone a 4-star instead of a 5-star rating simply because the price of the tire caused me to age 2 years in the 10 seconds it took me to process that reality. One tire cost me about half of what I paid for 4 tires 10 years ago. I had a momentary, half-as*sed vision of myself emulating Albert Brooks in the scene with Garry Marshall from the hilarious 1985 comedy "Lost in America," trying to convince Firestone to dramatically lower the price of the tire in the interests of humanitarian "charity" and "good publicity." Then again...as the late Harvey Firestone and the late Nick Delmore knew...the fact is that we live in a capitalist society, and you pay for what you get, if all things work out as they're supposed to. At Firestone, all things worked out as they're supposed to, and then some. I have a better car than I did then, and the price for a tire is what it is. Within just a few hours, my car was back in service (as was I), and the overall experience had been gracious, efficient and effectual. Maybe I would have paid less at Mavis. But I don't think I would have been as confident in the service and the product that I received. My thanks to manager Tom Bernknopf and his skillful staff for ensuring that my "worst case" nightmare became instead a "best case" resolution. Can't speak highly enough about James, Kyle and Tim. They were responsive and attentive. I called because my appointment in Pennsylvania was cancelled due to staff members having Covid. James told me he would call me back. He did soon after and ordered my tires. Kept me in the loop the entire time. Yes, I did have to wait. This place is extremely busy! But the customer care is excellent and they are very honest and transparent with everything. Would drive here again anytime and recommend them. I work nearby and had a flat tire happen just after work. I had AAA put on a donut, and had to find the closest place that can accommodate my style of tire. This place was the only one to have it in stock, and said I can come right away even though they were closing shortly. I thought their customer service was great, and I appreciate their hard work. The reason I gave 4 stars is #1, they're way overpriced, and #2 there was a slight issue but the manager fixed it for me right away and compensated me. I had a great experience when it came time to changing my auto battery here. I was greeted by Lord who gave me options of having the alternator tested and offered an interstate (big fan of this brand, they last forever) battery at a really reasonable price. Lord was incredibly courteous, friendly, and did not try to sell me anything I did not need. Kenny was the tech who did the install literally in 15 minutes. I was in and out in under 20 minutes. Service was fast, and staff was incredibly courteous. read more

I would give them no stars if I could. If you have a luxury car to do bring it here. 3 of my 4 rims were damaged when they put on the new tires. The owner stated my machine did not do this. I contacted corporate the sent out a consultant from a company to review the damage, he agreed the installer damaged the rims. When he wrote the report he said the damage was not caused by the installer (another liar). I spoke with corporate they said they would check with the owner of the company and never called me back. read more

They have been straightforward on items I needed and have always been pleasant to speak with. 2. Their prices are middle of the road but they do a quality job. Called them finally just before closing about status. were told that they would check and call us. they didn't. FINALLY we called and got a "it's ready" report. Staff does not know how to use phones to tell customer when car is ready. I've been using various Firestone locations for about 10 years. This one is as good as all the others. They charge very competitive prices and don't rip you off for diagnostics to figure out what's wrong. I like the fact that I've almost always had work done in one day and they keep me up to date on everything that's going on throughout the day. They always call me, which i really appreciate since I hate chasing down mechanics for updates. They are also open til 7 which is great for drop off and pickup after work. Finally I've never once had them say no to an appointment, even on the same day. The work has always been solid and I can tell they stand by their work, but I've never had problem after a repair done here. The guys working on your car are very accessible and don't mind explaining in detail or showing you what's going on. It's hard at other places to actually talk to the tech doing the work. I'd highly recommend this shop for general maintenance, repairs, and tires. read more

had an appointment at this location. absolutely no parking available...had to leave. noticed that if you make an appt,. online for a specific time and it is confirmed via email, that time still remains open for others to book. so don't expect your appt time to be honored. it's just bait to get you to come into the store. once there they expect you to wait as if their time is more important than yours. very bogus and not my definition of customer service. corporate firestone surely must be aware of this b.s. shame on them. read more

I had a really great experience here a couple weeks ago. I had a slow leak in my rear tire and a coworker recommended I come here. I'm so glad I did. The guys were extremely helpful and were able to plug it during my lunch hour. A couple weeks of driving in terrible weather and the plug is holding up perfect. I highly recommend this place. Highly recommend taking your car for service here. My sons car had an issue with the brake caliber on Christmas Eve, we called they said come in right away. They quickly looked at his car tried to get the part however, due to the holiday all part stores were out of that part and were closing at 2. My son had a road trip scheduled for the day after Christmas. The day after Christmas the car was fixed by 10:30 am and my son was able to make his trip. Anthony and his team were great. read more

I had a poor experience with this shop a few years ago, but figured they are a local business I thought I'd give them another shot and took my car in for an oil change. After an hour and 20 min and checking in twice, they finally gave me the car back without the sticker filled out saying when the next oil change would be due. They refused to fix a patch that was leaking - that part was fine. I needed 2 wheels changed, unable to accommodate waiting, asked for the car to be dropped off. Which we did - only they forgot to start working on it, so had to take it back at the end of the day, still not fixed. Next day they changed the wheels, with complete disregard for cleanliness. The protective mat was pushed aside and a black, motor oil, shoe print was in the middle of my new upholstered mat. Unprofessional, poor customer service, would not trust their work on my car. This place is the absolute worst. Car maintenance is never fun, but this place takes the cake for being the worst. I went in to buy two new tires, and ultimately was persuaded to do other work that totaled $900. Turns out they broke a bolt on one tire while changing it and I had to come back as it needed to be ordered to be replaced. It doesn't stop there. Once I left the shop with my new tires, both tires went flat within an hour because they did not properly seal the tires. When I called to complain. They offered me 3 free oil changes to make up for my troubles. When I went back to replace the bolt and get my first free oil change, they had ordered the wrong bolt, but didn't realize it until an hour into my appointment because the staff was spending more time socializing than doing their job. There are no words to describe how horrible of an experience I had with this place, and I still have to go back to get the correct bolt. read more

Last week after getting a flat tire & having Triple A come & put my spare on my neighbor tried to plug the tire but the plug was 2 small. I took it to Firestone cause that is where I had my 4 new tires put on over the summer. The man there took the tire in the back area & after looking at it said they could NOT fix it as someone already tried to plug it & if they tried to patch it that it would leak. Company policy he stated. OK so I take it to my gas station up the street from my house. Which by the way are the nicest guys. They told me no problem & patched tire & now its back on car good as new & only charged $15 by the way. They also told me that they get a lot of disgruntled firestone customers coming to them saying Firestone is a rip off & tries to sell people tires even when not needed. How can a tire place not be able to repair a tire when fixable??? That's because they are out for the big bucks & know there is no money in doing that. Only when selling tires. BE CAREFUL W/THIS PLACE. I would NOT trust their work ethics. read more
