I came to Long Hill Car Shop for a free insurance inspection, but they charged me a $25 "tip" even though no actual inspection was performed. I had to fill out the form myself, and they didn't even look at the car. It was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. They also refused to provide a printed copy of the form, making the experience even worse. Afterward, I went to a shop at White Station for my CARCO inspection. The staff there properly inspected my car in five minutes, provided a paper copy for my insurance, and charged nothing -- exactly how it should be. Compared to the professional service at White Station, Long Hill Car Shop was a complete letdown. Their service amounted to nothing more than forcing a $25 "tip" with no real inspection and a bad attitude. I do not recommend them. read more

I would not recomend this place for my car to be repaired. I spent over $1000 in work there in which I am continuing having problems with the very work that was done. Had shop look at my work van for a checkup to make sure no issues before winter. Told van needed over $1600 in repairs. Tuneup, belts and hoses, oil change, and rear brakes. I checked my files and saw I had belt replaced 15k ago. Called and questioned belt and now told I didn't need. Huh? Strike 1. I still had over 600 miles before needed an oil change. Strike 2. I drove the van over 100 miles following day and smelled burning rubber smell all day. Called shop and told me it was normal. When is a burning smell ever normal in a vehicle? Strike 3. Now I have a metal grinding noise from my front end. Went back to shop in person and owner had a very young mechanic rude with me so I could let him hear noise. He heard noise and informed owner. Told me I had to make another appt. as sounds like different issue. I wasn't having ANY issues with vehicle until I brought it to Long Hill Auto! Owner couldn't not wouldn't take time to look at vehicle himself after I spent over $1600. Not good business practices. Now I have to take my van to another mechanic to fix Long Hill Auto's mistakes. Not sure how so many great reviews. Feel as though I was flat out hustled by this shop. Updated review: Brought the van to Mendham Ford and informed a caliper had frozen and burned the brand new brakes installed by Long Hill Auto and it will cost me over $800 to fix. Once again I had NO problems with my van before Long Hill Auto "serviced". Also informed that upper and lower ball joints are in need of replacement. That was totally missed by Long Hill Auto. My car dash indicated a possible emissions issue about two years ago and Long Hill replaced the sensor and one other component. Cost was around $600. (BTW, a whopping $300 of that was a charge to hook up their equipment and get a computer read-out. Ridiculous!) Recently, the same indicator came up and they told me their work only had a one-year warranty. I called my previous mechanic who I stopped using because we moved away. He told me the car (2015 with 70k miles) was too young for this to be happening. He said to tighten the gas cap and wait a few days. Five days later, the indicator was gone. It has something to do with the "vacuum" that is created in the system. How come Long Hill didn't give me this good advice? I guess they needed my money to pay their rent. Avoid. read more

Tried using scare tactics on a young girl...avoid like the plague! My 20 year old daughter is working as an intern for the summer in Basking Ridge which is a little over 4 hours from our home in NH. Upon her arrival, she advised that the car was making an unusual noise and she was concerned. Obviously there is not much I can do from home so I jumped on Yelp to see what was in the area. I found this shop and read the reviews and was a little concerned with the negative ones but I liked the fact that the owner seemed responsive and did follow-up so I figured I would give it a shot. I called and arranged for my daughter to drop the car off on a Saturday morning when she was travelling out of town for the weekend. My buddy and my wife said I should have the shop call me with the estimate to try and avoid any funny business but I said no, my daughter needs to be able to deal with all types as she sets out on her own in the world. "Bob" called her with the bad news. The exhaust system was shot and needed to be completely replaced to the tune of $619. The front tires were dangerously low on tread and the front brakes were so bad it wasn't safe! The radiator was leaking and could explode! The total to fix the car was going to be $1,500! She told "Bob" she needed to call her dad and he pressured her telling if she wanted it done today he was running out of time as he had to order the parts. She told him she had to call me and had to assure him that she would call him right back and this seemed to annoy him. I called "Bob" and he gave me the rundown. I asked him if they could patch the exhaust or did it really need to be totally replaced. He told me the flange had rusted away and the rest of the exhaust was beyond repair. The car has 170,000 miles on it and it is the original exhaust. He told me the front tires were worn and should be replaced. I told him it just passed a state inspection in March. He told me the front brakes brakes needed to be done. I asked him about the radiator and he said there was a leak in the seam. I asked him if he told my daughter it could "explode". He said if it got really hot it could be a problem. I asked him if he meant the radiator could "fail" as opposed to "explode" and he agreed. At this point I told him not to do anything and that i would go down to NJ and tow it back to be checked out here in NH by my mechanic. I asked him what I owed him for the estimate and he told me just under $100. I asked him why so much money, how much labor did they put in to this estimate? He told me that any time they put a car up on the lift, that is the minimum charge. I couldn't believe it. I remained calm and polite and said thank you and hung up. He called me back about 10 minutes later and said while this is their normal charge, they wouldn't charge my daughter when she picked up the car on Monday. I told him I appreciated it. Met my daughter half way in CT and drove the car home. Dropped it off at my garage this past Tuesday with the laundry list that Long Hill gave us. Received a call a couple of hours later. The flange had rusted away but they could just weld a piece of pipe in it's place...cost? $88 parts & labor included. Front tires were getting low on tread but would be fine until the Fall but they recommended they rotate them with the back tires...cost? $0. Front brakes were getting worn, could probably wait until the end of the summer. I told them to go ahead and do them now...cost? $159.95 + 2 new brake rotors $102 = $261.95. Radiator...cost? $0. Not a leak in sight. So the total cost to make this car run like a top? $349.95. Big difference from the $1,500 quote and the danger of an explosion. I realize you can have a bad apple in the bunch but in my experience this type of "estimating" is usually from the top down in a repair shop. So any out-of-town folks who may need to service their auto, keep on looking is my advice. read more

Charged me to assess damage, told me that insurance adjuster won't pay for damage since can't prove it happened as result of accident. Short story.- a month later engine support broke on highway- determined damage was result of original accident - Insurance adjuster was confused as to why not fixed originally. Enough said. When your knowledge of cars, like mine, basically is limited to knowing that they have 4 tires, run on gas, and usually cost a lot of money no matter what, you almost have to trust (and hope) that the fates will be kind to you and that you'll find an auto-mechanic/shop that is run in a manner honest, skillful and fair. I've been lucky in that regard. I've been patronizing Long Hill Auto Service for about a dozen years now, and I haven't been disappointed. They're usually able to see me on short notice, and I have faith (which has been justified by my experiences) that whatever the verdict regarding the problem(s) with my car, it's an honest assessment-- I'm not being hustled. These are people of integrity. If there's nothing wrong with my car, or only something minor, that's what I'll be told. If I have to spend money to rectify the problem, I know that it's a fair price, and that the people doing the work know their job. And they've gone out of their way to be helpful. On one occasion, when the work was going to take longer than initially expected, one of the mechanics drove me home (not that far away, but far enough away that walking would have been an issue) and then picked me up when my car was ready. The hope is, of course, that you can go through the life of your car without having to bring it in for service. But when the occasions do arise where service is necessary (and it seems they inevitably do, sooner or later), I'm never hesitant about bringing it to Long Hill Auto Service. The people you come across on those days when you need help the most can really exacerbate a bad situation or save it. In our case driving from Georgia to Boston for vacation/funeral, having our car break down was devastating. We searched Google to find the closest auto shop and soon limped into the Long Hill Automotive station. The station bays were full up with cars being worked and several more cars lined up outside. The owner, Bob, was supremely nice and helpful right from the start. He informally diagnosed our transmission needed replacing based on our description. Even though there was no way he could work on it at that moment he took the time to run computer diagnostics to confirm his suspicion. Knowing we were in the middle of traveling, he gave us the name of another auto shop and even talked with that mechanic about the diagnostic codes to try to get me quicker service. Even though he may not even get a penny, Bob went out of his way to help with our options (repair, rental, scrap/buy). He was very patient and never exerted any pressure to make a decision or to get us to move on. Being stranded with a wife and two small kids was scary but Bob really helped us out. We had a very hard decision to make and Bob offered to store the vehicle on his property for the weekend while left in a rental and we decided what to do. Ultimately, we opted to have the transmission replaced and Bob was again there to help. Through phone calls and texts we got the ball rolling and Bob assured us he could have the car ready by the end of the week when we would be coming back through New Jersey. True to his word, Bob had the car fixed and ready to go. Not only did he have the car ready, but he drove the car home and back to ensure that my family would be safe once we started back to Georgia. On top of it all, Bob even had one of his crew clean the car including a wash and wax. Bob was honest and straight forward about the whole process. He communicated well and was quick to reply to my communications. His prices were upfront and reasonable and despite our dire straits, he never once tried to sneak in any kind of extra fees for all his efforts and speed. My family will never forget Bob and Long Hill Automotive for all that they did for us. I have been bringing my car to long hill auto for 20 years, as well as my parents, and have recommended it to friends. It is very difficult to have honest and caring mechanics, and Bob has been great to myself and all I know. Just recently I left my windows down in the rain and they would no longer work. They had to order new parts, take apart the door in order to fix it. Sadly a week later the windows again stopped working. I brought it back to Bob, he fixed it free of charge and gave me a loaner car, as it was a defective part, not their workmanship. This morning my husband went out to his car and saw his tire was flat. The tire was previously patched by his father, who unfortunately, did not patch the tire correctly leaving us in a bit of a pinch this morning. Since I work from home on Wednesdays, my husband was able to take my car, but I needed his car fixed for tomorrow. AAA came out and told me the tire was fixable and I should take it to a local mechanic to get it patched correctly. After doing a quick google search, I stumbled upon Long Hill Auto Service and saw their good reviews so I decided to give them chance. I explained my situation to them and they told me they were busy but I could bring the tire down and they would fix the tire and then call me when it was fixed and put it back on the car. So that's what I did. From start to finish, the service providers were courteous, efficient, and quick. My husband's car was repaired and back on the road before 1:30PM. Additionally, the owner was very kind when I accidentally arrived to the shop without my wallet. He allowed the service provider to put the tire back on the car and told me I could pay over the phone when I got home. I really appreciated his kindness especially during this pandemic where kindness and patience seem to be rare. Lastly, I was very happy to see that the employees were abiding with the COVID-19 mask and social distance guidelines. Since my parent died from COVID, I often don't like to go to new places without knowing if they are following guidelines. Without warning my car stopped working. I had it towed to Long Hill Auto Service. By the time it got there, it was late Friday night and the shop was closed. I called Saturday morning to make sure they had my car and provide some details as to what happened. I honestly did not expect to hear from them again, even though they said they would get back to me, since it was Saturday. I was wrong! They called to let me know they started to diagnose the problem, and what further steps they would be taking on Monday. On Monday afternoon, I received another call with less than ideal news. Bob, the owner, was very informative and guided me in the right direction because the issue should be covered under my cars warranty. He let me leave my car at the shop until I could have it towed directly to the dealership. Recently my Ford Escape broke down on 78 as I was heading to PA. Of course it happened out of the blue and after business hours. I followed my roadside assistance service's suggestion (USAA) and had my truck towed to Long Hill Auto Service. I must admit that I was nervous leaving my vehicle at an unknown out of state mechanic, but I had no choice. The professionalism this shop displayed put any fears I had to rest. The issue was diagnosed by noon the following day (Saturday) and the estimate provided was more than fair. The mechanic who called me was polite and explained the diagnosis in detail. He answered all of my questions as well. The issue was identified as a dry rotted alternator belt, a worn out alternator and a battery that had stopped holding a charge. Not shocking considering the vehicle is almost ten years old and I bought it used. The repairs were finished by 4 pm that same afternoon. Unfortunately, I was not able to drive back to pick up the truck that day and my work schedule was going to keep me out of town until the following Friday. This is where the shop really proved its worth. The owner told me not to worry and stored my vehicle on his second lot until I was able to retrieve it. He did not charge me storage fees. Finding a good mechanic at home is hard, but finding one out of state is a crap shoot, especially when in a bind. Long Hill Auto is BY FAR the best car repair experience I've ever had- and I've had MANY. First off, when you walk in the shop office, it is set up like a dealership. Bob has key chains, magnets, coffee, tire pressure valves and even customized "Long Hill Auto" water bottles. I've never seen a more professional repair shop in my life. When I had to use the bathroom, I was expecting to walk into a grease covered, disgusting bathroom, which is standard for most auto shops. I was floored when I opened the bathroom door to a bathroom cleaner than mine at home. It looked as if it was regularly cleaned, and there was no dirt, oil, or grease to be found. the soap provided was ocean breeze, not mechanic hand soap. But of course, this type of cleanliness is indicative of the entire shop. The office, the outside, even the spaces by the lifts where the mechanics work on cars- immaculate. For this specific issue (lean code), I took my car to two different mechanics who both worked on my car for weeks and couldn't fix the problem. Long Hill diagnosed the issue within 20 minutes of me being there, and fixed it within the week. I got my car back WASHED AND VACUUMED as well as with AIR in all 4 of my tires. During the few days I didn't have my car, I was given a LUXURY loaner car. The Infiniti Long Hill provided me had Sirius satellite radio, leather seats, and oak wood interior. I've never heard of a repair shop giving their customers a loaner car in general, let alone a fully loaded luxury sedan!! This shop is the classiest act going! You will not find an Owner like Bob who takes more pride in his business and his work. As if the incredible service wasn't enough, the prices for all work done were fair and reasonable. Save your money at the dealership and take your car or truck somewhere much better, Long Hill. I will not be taking my car anywhere else ever again. From regular maintenance, to pesky issues, Bob and the team at Long Hill will always have my business for as long as I'm driving! read more
