brought car in for 4 brakes and rotors( car was safe to drive) picked car up and made it 2 blocks and returned(car was not safe to drive) violent shaking when braking. Asked why they returned car in that condition and was told they are not allowed to test drive cars after repair because of insurance. Brought the car back twice to get the problem corrected( brakes were worse than when I brought the car in originally) I was told the car was fine and completely safe. I brought the car to another shop and paid for a new brake job and rotors. The car is fine now! was told the rotors they installed were warped out of spec. They would not honor warranty or give a re-fund. This has been my primary transportation since 2007, so I know what the brakes should feel like and operate. Just a simple tire pressure sensors replaced. Worst experience so far since coming to this mavis. I have been here many many times. Never this much trouble / bad of a experience. 2 lug nuts totally destroyed and 1 missing. I will have to be replacing them. And next issue i came in at 11:45am to be for my appointment at 12pm. I went down to the jersey Mike's to grab lunch. Came back at 1:15pm ish. And they still have not got my truck in the shop and it was still parked. Not acceptable in my opinion. By the time I left it was almost 230pm. New people working the counter didnt seem very organized and seemed to be all over compared to the other 2 I used to deal with almost always it seemed like that were always fantastic. This was likely one of the worst service experiences of my life. I booked the appointment to get a simple oil change two days prior for 2 pm on a Friday. I got an email confirmation. I received no other correspondence. Note: I did not create the online portal to accept appointments (this will come into play later). It existed and I used it and I got an appointment confirmation. When I arrived, I told the person at the desk that I had a 2 pm appointment to get an oil change. He possibly threw up in his mouth a little bit. He said they could not get to it today and said the next available appointment was on Sunday, but he could not guarantee how long it would take since there were 3 other appointments booked at 9. I said, "What's the point of me booking it online for a specific time then?" He said, "you can book whatever you want online." Hmm. I tried to reason with him, but with the help wanted sign out front and the haggard look on his face, I passed after getting a Sunday inconclusive option and just walked out. If you make a business error and don't even look at or call back your online appointments, I would think you might try to be just a little more diplomatic. I drove only 11 minutes to get there, but planned my day and schedule around a booked appointment where I was going to wait. Thanks. Side note: He looked at me as if it was unusual to wait for an oil change. I know from calling other places that this is now common practice not to wait because no one wants to give you just an oil change, they want to check everything so they can upsell you on other fixes. I believed I had a flat tire as that was the indication on my dashboard display. Fortunately, I was only a block away at the doctors. The doctor recommended I go to Mavis, as he had a similar problem months ago. I received a friendly welcome by the staff as I told my issue. My keys were taken and they did the rest. Not only did they work on the tire, but did a courtesy check of the entire card. They found Nothing to upgrade or sell me. What honesty!! Even more to come. After an examination of all tires and removal of the problem tire, I was told the tire was fine. I know given the weird and wild fluctuation of temperatures this winter the tire sensors can send bad signals. But the worker spent 45+ minutes on my car and now I was told the cost was ZERO. The gratuity I left the worker pales in comparison to the happiness I felt finding a friendly, efficient, and honest shop! read more

Two weeks ago I made an appointment to have two tires replaced on my car at 8 am when they opened. I arrived ahead of time at Mavis on the day of my appointment and they took my car keys. I went to a local restaurant for breakfast. They called me 45 minutes later and said my tires weren't there. They weren't sure why; one possible reason they offered was that I made my appointment too far in advance and my tires were returned to their distributor. It was all MY fault, you see. So, to recap, they wasted two hours of my time and the person who was with me because they cannot manage their business. They don't have a process in place whereby they check the day before to see if they're ready for their customers the next day, and if not, notify them so they don't waste their time. And then they don't apologize because it's the customer's fault! How are these folks still in business? read more

Made an appointment to have 4 tires replaced. Showed up next day for the appointment and showed assistant manager the unusual wear on current front tires. We agreed that an alignment was necessary and was assured that alignment would be performed as part of the service. I left the car for 41/2 hours. When I returned to pick up the car, I was told that the tires had been replaced but no alignment done. Although it seems obvious not to put new tires on a car that may be out of alignment, was told very sorry but our alignment person is not working today. Took "Better-Half's" (B-H's) Audi A4, 2014 model, 62K, for a possible tire leak repair yesterday (12/08/19). All four tires were bought new at Bernardsville, NJ, Mavis, with tire insurance. Admittedly, B-H was late for her "appointment" at 9.45am so, she opted to leave the car until Mavis could "fit her in". Turns out that the aforementioned A4 needs four tires...not surprising, given that "B-H" is a daily Gotham commuter, from Far Hills NJ. "B-H" was also informed by "Ken" (phone message, recorded) that she needed two new struts ($300) and an alignment. Moving right along...we showed up at the Mavis B'ville counter around 4.45pm, to be informed by "Kadrija" that, "yeah, you need four tires, but I don't see anything on here (the work order) about the struts or alignment, but if you were told you need them, then we can do it". B-H was initially offered by Mavis (Ken), four Falken tires at $109 each. At the 4.45pm "counter encounter", we were told $129 each. B-H questioned the unit cost and it was adjusted down to $110....say what ? I declined (on B-H's behalf) to authorize any work whatsoever. We took the car home (fortunately, there are two other cars available for use). I also demanded that the manager, Sean Byrne, call me to discuss, (no call, as of today 12/09 at almost 5pm...what a surprise) Now it gets "interesting".... Today (Monday 9th), after some additional preliminary (Audi-qualified) workshop inspection work, in the local area, it has been conclusively confirmed that neither a strut replacement, nor an alignment, are necessary. No leaks seen on any of the four struts and all four struts are functioning correctly. Hmmmm...? So, clearly, the deal is this; offer the sucker customer a cheap deal on cheap tires, then load up the back-end with unnecessary repairs. Where I come from, (across the "pond"), this is called fraudulent misrepresentation (I suspect that the same is true, in the USA). Mistakes and misunderstandings can occur, however; "upselling" is a prevalent ploy in the automobile repair world...this Mavis location appears to be taking their "upselling" to a disingenuous new level. Awful experience, no communication. I had a 9 am appointment and am still here at 4:40 pm and they have not started to change the tire. I had to cancel my plans. I called twice today and was told that the work would be completed but am still waiting. They are short staffed and did not apologize for the lack of communication. Then I went to Tulls Auto and they did it for 540 AND they have experience with German made cars. I had a cordial disagreement with a manager. After speaking with Mark, the district manager, he want above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. Long story short, I left my initial visit with a tire I wasn't happy with. As I had an important appointment in Long Island I had no choice and had to take the tire. I voiced my concern to Mark. He found the tire I wanted and had it rushed shipped to back to the store which I stopped at on my trip back to Ohio. At the store, Paul and Kadija were ex exceptional and a pleasure to work with. Great guys! My car had a flat and was parked at my house. There mechanic lent me the tool to temporarily plug it for free and drive it in. When I got it there they realized I was missing the key for the lock lugs. They removed the wheels anyway no extra charge for removing the lock lugs (I checked on YouTube and it didn't look easy). Price was as cheap as Costco or any other company I could find. read more

I've used the Mavis in Bernardsville twice and STS several times prior to the changeover. I've always been happy with their friendly, straightforward approach and efficient service. Most recently they spent time trying to diagnose a phantom vibration in my '08 BMW 3 series. While they could not 100% isolate the root cause, they did find and recommend other issues that needed to be addressed soon. Since they don't do transmission work, and couldn't rule it out as the culprit, Joe recommended some reputable transmission shops in the area and Nicole didn't charge me a dime for the work they did test driving and checking the vehicle up on the lift. Really appreciated this! During my previous visit, I stopped in to make an appointment to have my battery or alternator looked at since my battery would no longer hold a charge. Since I've unnecessarily bought more batteries than I'd like to admit during my life with cars (always convinced it's the battery, not the alternator), I figured I'd have them test it. The manager said he could check it immediately. Upon doing so, he discovered it was in fact the battery that needed replacement. They had the battery in stock, popped it battery in for me and the whole thing took less than 10 minutes! I don't think they even charged me for the putting the battery in. I made a reservation on 8/15/2020 for 4 tires for my vehicle for 8/18/2020 at 10:00am. I received a confirmation on 8/16/2020 that I was good to go, I assumed just bring the car in at the appointed time. When I got there, they did not have the tires. I rescheduled my appointment for 8/20/2020 being assured it will be the first one worked on. I deliver the car at 8:00 am for the tire service. I go to get my car at 6:30 pm 10 1/2 hours later and my car has not been worked on. Now, I am pissed. The manager on duty offers an unbelievably lame excuse that they had cars that did not get completed the day before. Ten and one/half hours of backups on 6 bays. That's pretty unprofessional and unreliable. I found a nail in my tire late afternoon. I called to see if I could make an appointment for first thing the next morning. Niel answered and asked if I could bring it in right away. It was after 5 and they close at 6. I was thrilled and dropped everything and ran down. They took me immediately and pulled what turned out to be a tiny screw that didn't puncture the tire. It took just a minute and no charge. I tipped the technician and was beyond grateful. Niel was kind, helpful and I will absolutely go back for other needs. read more

I had the worst experience with this STS. I chose to go here because I got a coupon from Shoprite, for a $24.99 oil change and tire rotation. I handed the man my coupon and he charged me $47. I said, "wait, isn't the coupon for a $24.99 oil change?" and he said, "no, it says that oil changes start at $24.99", which was a complete lie. Then without showing me, he put the coupon in the cash register. I got home, and looked at the coupon, since I had another one, and I was right. He also told me I needed new brakes, or I would end up losing control of my car on the high way. Gave me a price of $375, just for the front brakes. I said I would think about it. I went to Sears Auto, who I trust, and they told me I didn't need brakes that badly. They charged me $172 to put new ones in. I can't STAND when people try to rip me off!!! Their saving grace.. I called STS today and told another guy, who was much nicer, that I was over charged, and he refunded me. Would still never go back!! read more
