When my wife and I learned this fall that her mother would not be able to drive anymore due to medical issues, we offered to help her sell her car. She really loved the car, and it was tough for her to give up the freedom it represented. So, helping her sell it was a bittersweet good deed. Not wanting to just run an ad and take our chances, I thought about asking Mike at Gervasio's Auto Service if he knew of anyone who might be looking for a good car at a fair price. We've been using Gervasio's for many years for a lot of our car maintenance, and they've always been dependable and fair with their pricing. I assumed we'd pay some sort of commission if Mike could find a buyer. But when I told him the story, Mike not only said he wouldn't charge anything to ask around, but also offered to let us keep the car on his lot with a sign in the windshield. And the customer's gonna stay stupid because theres no such thing as some sort of information superhighway where you can get any information about our service or fair prices or anything. Customers are gonna stay dumb! Besides, theres nobody ACTUALLY honest in our biz anyway to take business from us" Anyway, Ive been trying to find a good, straight-shooting auto mechanic for a while now after being ripped off dozens and dozens of times. When I need servicing, I always wince when I have to hear the diagnosis, and they tell me the 1000 things that need to be replaced, and it always comes out to like $900+ bucks, even if its just some stupid hose that needs to be patched. I also get billed for like 8.5 hours of labor on jobs that take 45 mins. Not this time. Gervasio's was fast and straight. I had a problem I didnt understand and they fixed it in like an hour and it was cheap and manageable. No upselling, no fake labor. Hopefully they're just as good next time (I'm like a woman who picks bad husbands- "he was nice on the first date, maybe this one won't hit me". Let me tell you a story about why these guys are great - On our way from Burlington, VT to Philadelphia, PA to visit family in an emergency situation, the truck in front of us on i87 blew a tire. We weren't able to avoid the tire tread, which went under our car and knocked something out of place. We were able to drive but our car was making a horrible grinding noise. We got off at the nearest exit and initially pulled into the service center across the street from these guys. All we wanted to do was to check to see if our car was drivable since we needed to arrive in Philly as soon as possible. The guys with the gas & service station across the street were incredibly rude and unhelpful, but sent me to Gervasio's... and what a difference! The two guys that we met at Gervasio's were friendly, they checked out our car quickly, assured us that we could drive the rest of the way, AND refused payment or a tip. Slow service, unfriendly, and tried to rip me off. I dropped off my car at the appointed time of 8am for break check-up, and the man at the register was obviously not glad to see me for some reason. I sat in the little office and service did not start on my car until 10:30am. Why tell a customer to bring the car in at 8am if you do not start looking at it until 2 1/2 hours later? During my 2 1/2 hour sit I saw two customers drop off their car and leave, maybe they knew service is slow. At 10:30am a 20-minute check-up was done and I was charged $68 for manual labor while quoted a $600 cost to replace the two front rotors and front pads. Afterwards I brought my car into a different shop and got it all done for $289, and got a free check-up too. Nothing I could do about the bad service or service charge, but the $600 quote was just ridiculous. read more

These guys are great. I have been going to them for a while now and have always gotten excellent service. When I leave my car at Gervasio's I am always confident that they will 1. Be honest with me and 2. Treat my vehicle with the proper level of attention and care. Quick story that exemplifies Gervasio's willingness to go the extra mile: When I took my car in for a regular service/oil change, there was a bunch of sap on my windshield from parking under a tree that I had (unsuccessfully) tried to remove myself days prior to the service. When I came to pick up my car, all of the sap had been removed in its entirety (it wasnt a small amount of sap). The guys there did not mention the gesture or expect anything in return- they simply did it because they felt it was the right thing to do. This shows a level of attention and care that I find to be rare in today's business landscape. read more

They do great service fast and fairly priced. I've had several major jobs done here and now my car is approaching 200,000 miles and still running great. I find it very convenient to drop my car off off hours and then retrieve it that night or the next day. They are my favorite local shop. read more

I had an issue with my vehicle as I was passing through the area. I showed up to the shop not too long after they were closing and Mike, one of the mechanics, went above and beyond to help me get back on the road. He stopped what he was wrapping up with, to help me, a guy not even from the area. If I lived around there, the shop and Mike would definitely be the place I would go to for service. Definitely a generous thing he was able to help me with in a pinch, and I am deeply grateful for it. read more
