Dave and Dawn and the whole Fireseed team helped us bring our dream wedding to life. I can't imagine having worked with a more responsive, accommodating, and reassuring team when we had to delay our wedding by a year due to COVID. From coordinating rentals, vendors, and the day of run of show, Fireseed does an amazing job to make planning a wedding with them seamless and fun. On our actual wedding day, they handled all of the details so all we had to do was enjoy our day. There are so many things that make Fireseed special, but here are a few things that really stand out: 1. The venue itself is STUNNING. The grounds are covered in flower and vegetable gardens. If you want to show off PNW beauty, this is your place. Our guests had so much fun exploring. The barn where we held the reception is also gorgeous, and we really like that it had a separate lounge and bar area where our guests could sit and chat away from the dancing. I really cannot emphasize enough just how beautiful Fireseed is. 2. You will not find better food than at Fireseed. Dave and Dawn are professionally trained chefs, and everything from the passed hor d'oeuvres to pies were to die for. Most of the produce is grown locally on site, so everything is super fresh. Do not miss out on the ice cream sandwiches! 3. The staff provided outstanding service. Our day of coordinator Anna was so on top of every detail and made us feel so special. They took all of the stress out of the day so that we could just enjoy ourselves and take it all in. 4. Dave and Dawn! They are so easy and fun to work with. All of our vendors also love working with them and were very excited to be able to return for our wedding. They helped keep us organized and on track with planning and went out of their way accommodate last minute changes. We truly cannot thank them enough for helping us pull off a dream wedding we thought might never happen due to COVID. Fireseed is a truly special place, and we are now on a mission to convince all of our friends to get married there so we have an excuse to go back!

Dave and Dawn are absolutely incredible to work with! Due to Covid, we changed our date ... too many times. They were extremely helpful, flexible and understanding. I am so thankful we got to have our big day at Fireseed! Every detail was perfect and stress free. Our guests are still raving about the amazing food and cake! Not only is the venue absolutely stunning, but our day went so smoothly and nobody had to stress about any detail or timeline. I would absolutely recommend Fireseed to anybody! Staff was exceptional, food was incredible, scenery was stunning. Thank you endlessly, Dave and Dawn!

Should You Get Married Here?: Hell Yes. VENUE: Many guests have told us that it was one of, if not the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to. The venue at Fireseed is unparalleled. As a nature/PNW loving, adventurous couple we knew we had to have our wedding here and toured it during the winter of 2015. It was still beautiful even then. What a shock it was to see all the gardens and flowers in full bloom on the wedding day! It was so beautiful. It was like a dream. I couldn't believe it. There is so much to do at Fireseed. The grounds are expansive - they have wooded areas, outdoor games, gardens, a large field, and a boardwalk that sits on a pond. We loved giving guests the freedom to roam and explore, as we wanted them to make their day their own as well. I can't say enough how beautiful the venue is in the summer. The flowers were so spectacular. We decided not to have an arch because the backdrop was too beautiful to cover up. The reception hall is spacious and beautiful. It has a classic, rustic charm with tasteful materials and decor. Perfect. SERVICE: Everyone got their food promptly during the reception, and during cocktail hour the drinks and food kept coming. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Again, Dawn and David are awesome. Dawn helped coordinate on the day of the wedding to kept things running smoothly. Huge weight off my shoulders. FOOD: Some guests have said it was the most delicious food they have ever had at a wedding. Personally, this is definitely true for myself and my family. It was so good. Everything from the cocktail drinks, to the main course, to dessert. I honestly wish I had eaten more. COMMUNICATION: We just had our wedding here last weekend and it was incredible. Dawn and Dave are just amazing. From the beginning Dave has answered every single question we've had and has never made us feel that anything we asked was unimportant. They made us feel like we were their only clients even if they probably were juggling a boatload of other e-mails. They have been extremely thorough and thoughtful in their communicate to us which was a big stress relief. In CLOSING: Fireseed is an incredible venue with so much to offer and within very reasonable price. The service is impeccable and the inclusiveness of the venue/food/dessert/rentals/day of coordinating helps SO much with planning. I've heard many vendors now say that Fireseed is their favorite place to go. I am so thankful and feel so lucky we were able to get married here. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect wedding day. Everything ran so smoothly and felt like a fairy tale. Thank you Dawn and David.

    the outdoor bar at Fireseed

My mom researched rustic, romantic, unique wedding venues in Washington state for months before determining her favorite by far was Fireseed. Our first visit and we FELL IN LOVE. From the rustic, outdoor wooden bar made of tree trunks, to the artfully designed garden nooks and sprawling fields and ponds in the background, to the way the light danced between the tall trees after the ceremony during the outdoor appetizers/drinks. Our mostly Seattle guests were completely in awe. Fireseed is truly a hidden gem. No photo can do this venue justice as it is overwhelmingly lovely when you are there in person. You have to go there to see it!! Dave and Dawn the owners and chefs were incredible. Not many in the wedding industry are as down to earth, kind, very patient with our intensely organized detailed 200+ person wedding. Not to mention they are the most responsive people in all of Whidbey, very quick to answer any questions we have. We didn't have a professional planner/organizer so they helped mom and I through each step of the process and it turned out PERFECT. If you are the type that enjoys having more control of the details of your wedding, from choosing rentals, to decorating, Fireseed is the perfect blank canvas. It is beautiful on it's own and you can adorn it with your own style which was important to us. We didn't want to be restricted into a generic hotel wedding, but we wanted to create our own event that was "truly us". Plus Dave and Dawn can cook anything!! We wanted a unique menu, and they made a home-made buttermilk fried chicken and sweet potato mash that my guests are still talking about nearly a month later. And their pies.... we ate their pie for breakfast the next morning we couldn't get enough. Dave and Dawn at Fireseed connected us with Marty's Place, the most INCREDIBLE rental house ever created for a wedding weekend, and the florist from heaven Tracy Huffman with Farmhouse Flowers in Langley who we ADORED. The day of staff were so kind and welcoming to the guests. The day progressed flawlessly, you wouldn't even see the staff transition the chairs etc. from ceremony to reception. Very elegant yet comfortable in every way. By far the best decision for the wedding I made besides choosing my husband was choosing Fireseed as my venue.

First, their offerings just all sounded way too good! It was truly difficult to try to narrow down what we wanted on our family-style menu. Second, their communication was prompt and very helpful with all questions we had throughout. Third, our guests are still raving a month later about how it's the best food they've ever eaten at a wedding! We agree, but it's good to hear positive feedback from our guests as well. Lastly, they were really great with accommodating dietary restrictions and made adjustments as needed. Can't recommend them enough!! -R+D

Totally recommend this caterer but be sure of a few things that are hugely important. When I talked…read moreto Tim he said the people could have their choice of one or the other protein dish or they could have half of each. The two girls who were working the buffet table did not serve the protein dish, they just do of there. Therefore hungry groomsmen and young people loaded up and they ran out of the ribs and salmon for the last tables. This wouldn't stop me from hiring Tim again because the food was amazing. He does a good job. But be sure if you see this happening to tell the staff working what they're supposed to do cuz I still have a knot in my stomach that the people that waited a long time didn't get all the food that was offered. The other thing I would suggest, but this could have been our venue issue, try and have a line on both sides as it was a long wait to get all the tables done. The food was awesome, appetizers were great. Had people say it was the best food they ever had at a wedding.

We had our annual event on October 8th at the Edmonds Waterfront Center with Shooby Doo catering as…read morethe food vendor. The Waterfront Center has them as an exclusive contract so we had no choice but to use this caterer. We signed up with them back in 2020 believing that we would have an in-person event in 2021 but the Delta virus made us have to do a virtual event. Shooby-doo refused to refund our significant down-payment, so we were stuck with them for a future opportunity. Which we utilized them, as I said, on October 8th 2022. The tasting that we did those years ago was absolutely wonderful. The food was quite delicious. And that team worked with us to make sure that we would have a really good selection of food items to meet all pallets, allergies, and so forth. Thus, the food is quite expensive. The major issue that we had with this company is that we are a non-profit organization and have to abide by state guidelines in regard to serving alcohol. It was almost impossible to work with Scooby-Doo on this issue because they had really bad information that they kept telling us was accurate. It was not good. It took weeks on end to finally get them to deal with the state directly and understand that we were correct and we would not do anything that would potentially jeopardize our nonprofit status. In the end it was resolved well but the frustration that we were put through is still something that has a scab on the wound. One expects for someone who is providing a service that particularly has to meet state guidelines would know what they are doing and what they are talking about. And not asking us to work in a gray area. And that's what we were told over and over again. "Just work in the gray area", but like I said it was finally resolved. One other minor thing that was aggravating but we dealt with quickly was them wanting us to get more alcohol than we needed. We got what we knew we needed and still had a few bottles left over. And the only other minor aggravation was they didn't know their full contract the evening of when everything was said and done. They thought we were supposed to be out of the building at 10:00 p.m. but we were actually scheduled to be out by midnight. Again it got resolved but it was something else to add to a more stressful moment in time. Now on to the good stuff: The night of the event was extraordinary. Their employees had everything set up in advance as it was supposed to be and the venue looked amazing. They were so friendly, accommodating, and easy to work with. They literally catered to our every need asking questions along the way to make sure that we were satisfied before our guests even arrived. The staff members were amazing. The food was out of the ballpark extraordinary. People absolutely loved the food. We had a double-sided buffet in order to make things would go smooth and quickly. I'm glad we opted for that rather than having them serve the dishes. It worked well. I'm absolutely sure that we would never use Shooby Doo again for our agency events, because of the massive issues we had with them in the beginning. However, I do think they would be good for things that are not related to being a non-profit: Like weddings, birthdays, small corporation celebrations, and such. If you're considering Shooby Doo to cater your nonprofit organization, be careful, be warned, and make sure you check everything, especially the legality around alcohol service. Also, know and monitor the contract so that you know exactly what's in it. While the service was excellent the night of, and the food was extraordinary, the price tag on this event was far more than we anticipated. We recognize that food costs are up and inflation is a nightmare but this is a very expensive catering service. Scooby-Doo gets a five star on the food quality and the evening of service. They get a one star on the knowledge on working with nonprofits, or at least with our non-profit. They get a negative 5 for not allowing us to get our down-payment back when the Delta virus came and shut everything down for everyone. I feel they should have offered it back with perhaps a small penalty but they did not so we were forced to have to use them a couple years later. I thought that was absolutely ridiculous. I told them that I would give an honest review. And this review is that.

Despite hearing positive feedback about them, we were disappointed with both the service and the pricing. While the food itself was satisfactory, the service fell short of our expectations. The staff, particularly the head staff member, displayed below-average professionalism and a snarky attitude. Additionally, the setup did not align with what was agreed upon and promised beforehand. Despite planning for 90 guests, the seating arrangements only accommodated 64, causing inconvenience and dissatisfaction among attendees. During the event, the catering staff were conspicuously absent, leaving us to pick up the slack and handle tasks that should have been their responsibility. Adding to our frustration was the unexpected 23% additional fee, which the catering company failed to justify adequately. When questioned about this fee, we were met with vague explanations about covering costs, which left us feeling misled because they also leave room for minimum of 16% tip that must be paid BEFORE experiencing their service. You do the math. Overall, while the venue itself was stunning, the experience with Shooby Doo catering staff left a lot to be desired. The combination of subpar service, unexplained fees, and high pricing makes it difficult to recommend their services to others. You still have to use them if you have an event at the Waterfront. Don't get the chocolate cookies, or the deviled eggs on toast. If you go for the fruit plate, this cost us $1,710 plus tax. ($19 a person). The empanadas were yummy, the beef sliders were finished, and people complimented the salmon in puff pastry.
