This has become one of my favorite places to go if I'm looking for an above-average steak. While FireRock Grille certainly isn't the most up-scale of places, and it can be noisy at times, it's certainly a solid leap up from your typical chain restaurant. The steaks are prepared in a relatively unique way. Rather than cooking them to order, they're served on a "fire rock" right at the table, so you can cook it how you like as you eat it. Spectacular, especially if you're like me and are picky about a rare-to-medium-rare steak. Sure, you can get Choice steak here, and you can save some money by doing so, you can also find more premium cuts and wagyu steak on the menu. While not at the level of a high-end steak house, FireRock simply cannot be beat for its price-to-quality and casual dining. read more

I have been here several times with family and for business. I can not recommend it more highly on the south side if you are looking for something really good without the drive. The food is excellent, and I really like their fish options and almost always order one. Their salads are also creative and excellent. They also have very good American food options, which is great for a group. They also have tons of seating options and can put you in a quiet area for an anniversary dinner or in the large dining room for a more out in the town feel or their covered patio, which is awesome right now if you are not into indoors. read more

So, they take no reservations for under 6 people but yet the bar will not let you get served unless you are currently eating. There were no other people standing around the bar, just people eating at the bar. Attempted to order drinks while waiting for our table but was told the bar was to busy to serve us. I live near fire rock grill and it's a nice place but the only complaint I have is they say they don't have room to sit in the members area but you can see that there is many seats available and tables . So we had to sit in the Guest area. Sometimes they take a while to come to get your order once we had to wait 30 minutes for them to come and get our order. First time I've been here was for my 26th birthday. Prices weren't too bad, especially for the quality of the food. They also give you a birthday discount on your entree, so I decided to get the most expensive steak they had and it slapped. The wife also enjoyed her dinner as well. The cocktail I order was mixed a bit too sweet but nothing to complain about. The only problem I encountered was when the bill came, they forgot to add the birthday discount to my entree which was a shocker at first but after I communicated it was taken care of. The food was above average but not "blow-your-socks-off". We had: Wine - a bottle of Joseph Lott red was excellent and exactly as described on the wine menu. (The tap menu seemed a tad limited which surprised me a bit. Don't we live in "Beer City USA"?) Appetizer - Crab/artichoke spread, which was little too cheesy for my tastes. Still the crab and artichoke flavors came through nicely. The negative was the bread, served with the crab dip. It was drenched in oil and (butter?) and was just too thickly applied. This could easily be fixed with some plain bread slices and oil on the side. Entrees - Wagyu steak was very good but paired with an oddly flavored sweet(er) dipping sauce. If you skip the dipping sauce, the flavor and tenderness of the meat was great. The steak was served on their "signature" 500 degree stone, meaning that you need asbestos gloves to get near the stone. To me - the whole thing felt a bit gimmicky, like I was eating at a Disney theme park restaurant but bottom line - the steak was great, so maybe it was more than just a gimmick? We also had the Pork Shank was served with beans & greens that were expertly seasoned. It was very good and something that I would order again. Desert - the Eggnog Bread Pudding was more about the carmel sauced ice cream ball on top of the "bread pudding". The eggnog flavor was lacking and the consistency of the bread pudding was more like pound cake. Definitely would NOT order this again. Service - everything happened rather crisply and the food came out a lot faster than we expected. You will have a primary waitress but a LOT of the staff get involved in delivering food and clearing dishes so no complaints. I suspect this is the root of some of the service complaints on Yelp. When everyone is responsible, no one is accountable. In general, I've found that the Watermark restaurants (Reds, Cork, Gravity, etc) all have a consistently good atmosphere and food choices. You probably won't have that "wow" moment at Fire Rock Grill but I enjoyed the evening and will return again. read more

A big mess up right from the start... no hurry to take our order about 15 minutes after being seated. We ordered a pizza, French onion soup, Waldorf chicken salad wrap with sweet potato fries and half a salad, it took over an hour to get the food - we could hear our waiter asking the kitchen staff twice for our food. The waiter apologized saying the printers weren't working properly. The soup was room temperature, the raspberry vinaigrette was so extremely strong with vinegar I couldn't eat the salad, the Waldorf chicken salad wrap had an "odd" taste. However, the pizza and the sweet potato fries were great!! Finally when the waiter returned with our change, he didn't have the correct change for one of us (3 ladies). read more

Some friends & I went here for restaurant week. We all loved it! The FireRock name is because they serve food on a lava rock that continues to cook it until you remove it. We started with lettuce wraps and salads. I had the watermark salad which I thought was really good. I love me a salad with greens, nuts, fruit and cheese! For entrees my friends both had the fire rock bistro steak with truffle fries. They both said it was very good. I tried their fries - I thought they were decent. I had the vodka pasta w/ grilled chicken. I really enjoyed it, the chicken had great flavor. The portion was huge! I ended up taking about half of it home. I had the peanut butter pie for dessert which was fantastic! One of the best I have ever had! Both of my friends had the lemon tart which was pretty tasty too! The service was great, the food yummy, the atmosphere comfortable and the bathrooms were clean! They have some great looking specials different nights of the week and I can't wait to go back & try them! read more

Had the ahi tuna. It was great. Five of my girlfriends and I decided to try a new place and all came here tonight for dinner and drinks. Food was good, even though the server didn't ring in one of our dinners right so we didn't get the halibut but an additional tuna dish. At 7pm, three of the ladies stalls didn't toilet paper and the bathrooms were TRASHED! Water all over counters, broken soap container, paper all over the floor. We told the manager and he blamed it on the hostesses. The five of us walked out the door, past the manager who was heavily involved with chatting up the hostesses and we didn't get one goodbye, thanks for coming in, etc. from the three of them. It was strange. Our table was about a $400 sale. The tuna was great. We likely wouldn't come back. Service and management not so great. Clean the bathrooms!!! read more

Service was slow. Took forever to get our first drinks when we arrived. Once we ordered dinner it took over an hour for the food to arrive. At this point there was no water or lemonade in my glass. Waitress told me she would bring more but took about 20 mins. We had the salmon and it was the smallest piece of fish for the high price of 29. So not worth it. The salmon was so crunchy and there were no micro greens and 3 little pieces of bok choy. The Korean marinade was spicy but not indicated on the menu. The prime rib dip was flavorless. The au jus was like dirty water with no flavor too. What gave it a little flavor was the cheese. The fries were very salty. There must be a shortage of ketchup as it was rationed in a little cup. Had a New York strip and they gave 3 sauces. Not sure why. There was horsey sauce bbq and chipotle. Horsey sauce I understand but the others not sure. Again not impressed. Clearly the kitchen and waitstaff cannot handle the clientele. Still can't get over how long it took for the food. read more

I have been to FireRock Grille a couple times now. Last night my friend and I stopped by for all day happy hour! (M-F, 3-6, all day Wed & Sun) Their happy hour deals are pretty good: $3 off apps, $10 3-topping pizza, and some good drink specials. I chose a house cabernet sauvignon for $4. It was pretty good! We ordered two dishes to share: the pot roast poutine, and a build-your-own pizza with pesto sauce, chicken, roasted red peppers and artichokes. The pot roast poutine came out and I thought "oops, we shouldn't have gotten the pizza!" It was a big dish! A huge bowl full of fries, covered in gravy with beer-battered, deep fried cheese curds. Yeah, it's health food. Anyway, our server walked by and looked at the bowl for a second. I didn't think anything of it, because I had already dug in. It was amazing. She came back with a plate full of pulled pot roast! She said, "I thought something looked weird, they forgot to put the pot roast on the poutine!" I thought it couldn't get any better... and it did. The pot roast was perfectly tender and flavorful. This is one of the best poutine dishes I've had! The only thing missing is a fried egg! The pizza came out and it looked great. I was so full from the poutine that I only ate a couple pieces. The pizzas are small but big enough to share (maybe 10" - 12"?). The crust was pretty good, and the flavor of the pizza was great. I wouldn't say it's the best pizza I've ever had, but it was decent and definitely worth $10. The service was prompt and friendly! We got there right around 5pm and once we left around 6:15, the place was packed! It gets pretty noisy in the dining area, but I really enjoyed the food and wine we had. Doesn't hurt that it was all at a discounted price! I would definitely go back on a Wednesday for more happy hour specials! read more

Went to the Firehouse Grill on 12-9-19 with some co-workers. Ordered a 12 oz Ribeye medium rare. The steak came out burned and medium to medium well. A steak continues to cook after being served. Table of 4 attended yesterday at around 9pm. Waiting 10 minutes to be served water, had to rush order starter in case our server never came back. Company arrived, waited another 10 mins for their drinks order to be taken. No care for the customer. Ordered food, which arrived...one steak fillet was over-done, one on the fire-rock in which the rock was cold and had to be replaced and a risotto which was not cooked enough. I had high hopes for this restaurant, but the food is B.A.D. (Bland, Average, Disappointing). Low grade/quality ingredients, tasted like reheated, frozen, overly processed food. My poor hubby had stomach issues that night. The decor is alright and kind of reminded me of some of the semi-themed restaurants on the outskirts of the Las Vegas strip. There is an outdoor seating area and fire pit which is nice for groups, but the food is just awful and SO overpriced for what it is. The service was generic, our server did a decent job bringing food and refilling drinks, but nothing above and beyond in terms of exuding a bit of personality or sincerely listening. We tipped 20% like we always do though. It's far off if you live in Grand Rapids and definitely not worth the drive in my opinion. Charley's Crab in GR is so much better for those prices. If you really need to try it, then go to their all day Wednesday happy hour at least you'll be paying for what you get if you buy the few happy hr items (1/2 of apps and pizza + drink specials). read more

Ordered shrimp tacos. They were served dipped in a spicy sweet sriracha sauce on top of a 500 degree rock along with a small scoop of slaw that wasn't enough to dress the three tacos shells that came with the dish. The 500 degree FireRock is an interesting conception steak but makes no sense to serve already cooked shrimp on the rock. My dish was served and I scrambled to get everything off the rock as soon as possible because the shrimp and sauce were burning. All of the shrimp ended up with blackened (not caramelized) bottoms. After biting into them, I learned they were more batter than shrimp. Drinks were good so we'll for return to the bar but not eating here again. read more

I was very disappointed in my experience here. We were there for an hour and a half and we ordered a steak (on a fire rock) and a sandwhich. The service was slow and the food took forever and when it did come out, after the 4 tables that were seated WELL after us all received their food, we were still missing a few things that were ordered. The steak tasted very bland and like it had been frozen and everything came out VERY dry, including the pickle that came with the sandwhich. My potatoes were warm at most and the portions were way smaller than I would have expected. I will definitely not be returning to this restaurant. read more

This is a really nice place to go for a special occasion meal, but they also have really great happy hour deals that will make you want to go more often! The atmosphere is calming and enjoyable. My only criticism is that sometimes the service is a little slow. I got the twin filets and my husband got the wagyu steak. The steaks themselves were decent, but nothing we couldn't make at home for a lot less money. Especially considering that you cook it yourself at the restaurant anyway. The sides to our meals were very underwhelming. They had no flavor, they were just there. One of our biggest issues was the amount of flies we had to keep swatting away, even though we were sitting indoors. Our waitress was very sweet about it, and ended up talking to the manager for us. They gave us a free dessert for the inconvenience, which was also subpar. Overall, the experience was not worth the money. read more
