Grove just blew me away! Farm to table restaurant and Tapas...two of my favorite things. And speaking of 2 - we did Grove for Two. It's Bread, 5 Courses & Dessert FOR $150. Worth every penny. We made a reservation and it actually took them a while to seat us after our allotted time. But I will excuse them for that since their food and service were both incredible. Our server was so animated and fun. He explained everything and it did not take much to sell us on the Grove for 2. It was a ton of food. We had: Beef tartare, Hokkaido scallops, Pho short rib, Lamb, and Sturgeon for our 5 dishes. I see that the menu changes so I do not have the exact dish names for the last 2. They have since been replaced. But my top 2 favorites were the Beef tartare and Pho short rib. All of the dishes were unique. Even the dessert was an upscale version of cheesecake and it was phenomenal. I have no notes for any of the food. I am glad to see a restaurant like this in GR. I would love to come back again. Went with a couple of girlfriends for a birthday celebration and the food was spectacular! We couldn't decided on what to get so we did family style and we loved that they had the option to do "grove experience" where it's X amount of items for $350. We were able to taste pretty much everything on the menu and adding to our order if needed. It was plenty of food and we left full! The menu seems to change with the season but they still feature similar items. This was the summer menu and was by far my favorite. I went back in the fall the menu was more fall-ish, I didn't really care for it but my husband loved it. This is a perfect date night spot or dinner with friends. I'm a huge foodie and can't believe I've never tried Grove before this moment. The vibes are romantic and cozy, upscale but not pretentious. The service was really special. Our server was attentive, spaced our courses perfectly, catered to a gluten sensitivity, and was very knowledgeable about the menu and offerings. We went there as 2 couples and both did the tastings for 2 for $150 per couple which meant that we basically tried the entire menu between the bread, 10 courses, and 2 desserts. My favorite dish was the bucatini (light, lemony, and fresh pasta and a good portion size). My husband's favorite was the salmon (crispy edges and delicious dill sauce). The two dishes we would not recommend are the lamb (too small of a portion honestly) and the potato (covered in an overly salty, pasty cheese sauce). The spiced cheesecake was pretty good for dessert. The cocktails were hit and miss. Overall, we left with mixed feelings... we felt it was a great one-time experience in a cute restaurant with great service, but for the price tag none of the dishes really stood out enough to have us wanting to return soon. read more

Fantastic place for a date night. Ambiance is upscale yet relaxed. Service was great -- both our server and their sommelier talked to us about the menus and provided an outstanding experience. My wife and I split the spiced nuts, duck confit, bucatini, and octopus, and all were delicious. For drinks, we split a couple of yummy cocktails and a couple of wines by the glass -- a red Burgundy and a Champagne, both of which were on-point recommendations by their staff. Weekend Recap: Me, my date, and a whole moody lighting vibe. Let me start by saying that if you're looking to level up your food game in Grand Rapids, Grove is the spot. We came for the Restaurant Week tasting menu, and wow--just wow. The tasting menu included 2 entrees and a dessert. We added some fresh-baked bread (a must) and frisée salad, because, health. I had the pork shoulder with couscous and pomegranate. Oh my goodness, I'm still dreaming of how tasty and tender the cut was. My date had the duck leg, which was so salty and boasted almost an Asian zing type feel. It paired perfectly with the Syrah we ordered. Speaking of, wine is half the experience, and Grove did not disappoint. We splurged on a bottle, and it was so beyond worth it. Big shoutout to Nick, our server with the perfect recs. And to top it all off? A tarte with white chocolate chai ganache. I was literally in heaven. We visited Grove when we were in town for the weekend. We originally had planned to bring our 10 month old daughter, but at the last minute decided to leave her with her grandparents and have our first night away since she was born. When we arrived, they were anticipating we would have her with us and were prepared to accommodate her stroller or high chair, which was so appreciated. We arrived just after 8:00 hoping to have a drink at the bar before our 8:30 reservation. There weren't any seats at the bar, but our table was already available so we were seated. We decided to start with a cocktail, then do the Grove for two and share a bottle of wine. We chose the cabbage salad, pomelo salad, chicken marsala, beef pho, and pork belly. Plus bread, and a sticky date pudding for dessert, along with an espresso martini with toasted coconut foam to share. The food was fantastic, a couple of the portions were on the smaller side, but everything was delicious. The bread, sticky date pudding, and the pomelo salad in particular were favorites. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive. The only complaint I have is how rushed we felt. Having an 8:30 reservation at a fine dining restaurant that closes at 10:00, you know they are not in need of turning the table for another party so being rushed was surprising. Our bread and first course came at the same time, while we were still having cocktails. One course arrived before we had even finished the previous course, and two were brought before we had received new share plates and flatware. It was really disappointing to have the first nice dinner we've gone to in over a year feel like they are just trying to get you out the door, especially when you're paying $300 for it. We were so frustrated by how quickly things kept coming out, and not ready to eat yet, that we let a couple courses sit on the table for a few minutes before eating, one was a salad so not a huge deal, but the other was the pho which of course got cold from sitting. I had such high expectations from reading reviews and looking at the menu, and we were so excited for this dinner. I would be that any other seasonal dishes would be equally as stellar. * berkshire pork shoulder (carrots * almonds * couscous * pomegranate * cider jus) * squash agnolotti (ricotta. brown butter, parmesan, sage, truffled balsamic, gingersnap crumb) - the fried sage was EVERYTHING. The al dente agnolotti was beautiful. the size of these were more like ravioli in my mind as i've had smaller before but i mean the flavor was still delicious. It was also my first time trying a Murderpoint Oyster from 'Bama (who knew they raised Oysters in AL?!) and I really really enjoyed it. Super fresh, not fishiness and the cider mignonette was perfect. *The cocktails are incredible! My boyfriend at the time/husband were trying to find a Michelin-star restaurant in Grand Rapids, but we ended up discovering that there were no Michelin-star restaurants in that area due to logistical reasons. In any case, this restaurant still popped up when I made the search, so we made a reservation and gave it a try. Honestly, we planned to go to Grove in the middle of the week so we did not even need a reservation in May (I think we went on like a Wednesday or Thursday early dinner). They have lots of indoor seating and also really lovely outdoor seating that felt like half garden, half historic metropolitan. The servers were so friendly, and my husband and I ordered the "Tasting for Two" with bread and dessert for $150, which was totally worth the price ! As every pair of dishes were brought out (it was 3 courses with 2 dishes for each course), the server explained a bit of the ingredients and how the dish was cooked - which is not the fancy experience that we get to have often. Their bread so soo yummy, warm, and buttery. I ate the more earthy and fishy dishes while my husband had the more hearty, meaty dishes. My favorite dish out of these courses was the carrot dish. Grove was also the first place where I tried an olive oil cake that I was first skeptical about, but absolutely loved after I ate it. I could write a book filled with all of the aspects of Grove that make it one of (if not THE) best restaurants in Grand Rapids. But I won't bore you with that, as every second you'd spend reading my review would be one fewer second that you could spend planning (and saving up for) a truly transcendent dining experience at Grove. This place is truly special, and that's because they make you feel truly special. We were welcomed in with a handwritten note congratulating my lovely girlfriend and I on our anniversary, along with complimentary champagne and a custom menu. Our server was an absolute savant - he knew absolutely everything about each and every dish, drink and desert, and had excellent recommendations as to how we should invest our hard earned money into such an elegant tasting menu experience. Every dish was mind-blowing. I would not be surprised if the chefs had little Ratatoullie rats under their hats in the back, because with each first bite of our five dishes, I felt like Anton Ego when he flashed back to his childhood eating Ratatoullie on a warm summer evening in the french countryside. The cocktails were also masterfully crafted. This place could easily moonlight as one of those boujee cocktail bars where it's so dark you need a flashlight to see the leather menu and all of the bartenders have perfect beards and look down on you for not knowing what Amaro Pazzo is - Grove could do all of that but better. And to top it all off, our server overheard my date and I debating over which desert to try, so they just went ahead and gave us both for the price of one! Like, come on. They're just bragging at this point. Grove is the bee's knees. The cat's meow. The fox's socks. The ant's pants. We weren't able to get a reservation until later in the night and once we met our waiter and had our first meal, we understood why. The service was impeccable and the food was amazing. Our waiter explained each meal down to the minute details, truly a multi course tasting experience. I enjoyed everything about this place from the ambiance, to the food and the drinks. And can we talk about the swivel chairs? So comfortable! This turned out to be quite a good experience overall. It appears to be a destination for special occasions, which it is good for, but it would be nice if people felt that it was also a good choice for just wanting good food and service at a fairly reasonable price (that it falls a bit short on). The dining room can be very loud. Appreciate that they recognized that and moved us to another table where it was possible to carry on a reasonable conversation most of the time (although occasionally, a large laugh from elsewhere in the restaurant would very loudly echo off the hard surfaces everywhere). Started with the beef tartare. It was fairly large chunks of meat in a creamy sauce with herb hints and sprinkled with chive powder. It was tasty, but what made it amazing were the seed crackers that they came with to accommodate gluten allergy. Wow, those crackers were excellent, and went terrifically with the tartare. Not sure why they are not the usual accompaniment to the tartare. I wish they sold these packaged, as they would be great in a lot of dishes. The lamb kofta were two nicely spiced spears that were served over charred ramps. The trouble was charred ramps are like charred scallions - all wilted, and very tough to cut and chew. I would have sworn the green goddess sauce it was served over was pesto. The accompanying "pita" bread was fantastic - pillowy, lightly charred, nicely salted; so delicious and just perfect for sopping up the pesto/green goddess sauce. The sturgeon came in a beurre blanc sauce with English peas and peas shoots. The sturgeon was small and well prepared. The pinot noir and the GMS style red wines were also both very good. The service was helpful, attentive and positive in a non-pushy way that was appreciated. read more

We always have a great time when we go to Grove - the food is well priced, the ambiance is small and intimate, and the service is top notch. It's the perfect place to go to on date night - not too expensive, but the quality of the food is amazing! Took my husband here for his birthday, and we each decided to do the Taste of Grove, where we were able to pick 3 dishes for $50 (6 dishes, $100 total for the both of us). This is a great deal, because the portion sizes remain the same, and we were able to pick anything from the menu. We decided to go with the Bread & Butter, Crudo, Cacio e Pepe, Beef Tartare, Grilled Octopus, Potato Crusted Fish, and the Wagyu New York Strip. I believe there was an upcharge for the Wagyu New York Strip, but it was well worth it! Our favorites of the night were the Bread and Butter (the bread was soft & fluffy, and was lightly salted), the Crudo (we never say no to raw tuna), and the Potato Crusted Fish (the puree paired perfectly with the fish, and the fish was soft and flaky). We had the best experience celebrating our anniversary here! I definitely recommend making a reservation. I noted we were celebrating our anniversary, and we were greeted with a sweet little note & champagne upon arrival. We enjoyed our Taste for Two experience, which allowed us to pick 5 plates, plus bread & butter and dessert. The dishes were perfectly timed so that we had enough time to enjoy each before another was placed in front of us. Our server was very attentive and described the ingredients of each dish, as well as how it was cooked. There is limited seating outside, but luckily we were able to snag the last table outside to enjoy the weather, however, inside is beautifully decorated and would have been just as pleasant. It's official, Grove is my favorite restaurant in Grand Rapids right now. I really hope they continue to create innovative, accessible, delicious dishes like we had recently. Nate and I went specifically for the Grove tasting for two, which is $125 per couple and gets you their delicious bread, your choice of five dishes, and dessert. It's an incredible value and the only stipulation is that you can't get five of one dish. Our server Abby was knowledgeable and hilarious, and made our evening fun and relaxed. We ordered the crudo, cauliflower, octopus, beef tartare, wagyu hanger, and the butter mochi cake. Abby was great with spacing out the courses so we didn't feel rushed, which was one of my only issues at our last visit. The bread is light and flaky, buttery, and delicious. Hold onto a piece or two to soak up the sauce from the crudo - a great suggestion from Abby. The crudo itself was fresh and light, with a bit of heat from chili oil. We loved the brown butter hollandaise with the cauliflower. Citrus was present across many of the dishes, which gave a brightness and kept things light. The octopus had a crunchy quinoa that I loved! It added great texture. I found the octopus a bit more firm than I was expecting - not overcooked or rubbery but definitely had a bite. We loved the creme fraiche of this dish. The beef tartare was good. We added the shaved truffle for an extra $25 because why not? I probably wouldn't do that again, honestly. I don't think it added that much to the dish. The seeded crackers that accompany the tartare were delicious, but a little overpowering as the tartare was quite delicately flavored. The wagyu hanger was transcendent. I'm still thinking about it and want to go back and get it just for me so I don't have to share. The steak was super tender and so flavorful. It was perfectly rare and I could cut it with a butter knife. I honestly saved a piece of it for after dessert because I wanted to end with the best bite of the evening. Yeah it was that good. Dessert was a tough call but we picked the butter mochi cake, which was delicious. The texture of the cake was springy and bouncy. There was a bit of a bitter element from the marmalade, but the sweetness was balanced. I'd love to go back to Grove again soon and get the Grove experience, which is $325 for everything on the menu. Abby said she's seen two people attempt it but it's best if you have a group of friends to share. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to Grove. So I have to say, I was really hesitant to go to Grove again after my initial experience with them post-Covid. The first time was really expensive, small portion sizes, and a bit limited from a menu standpoint.. HOWEVER. I have to say that I think Grove is one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in Grand Rapids right now. I really can't wait to see how their menu adjusts with the seasons and continue with being super creative on trying new and unique dishes. You can make reservations online - they do have a deposit per person to eliminate the risk of no shows or last minute cancellations What really sold me is Katy C. posting pictures of the food and mentioning that there is something called the "Grove Tasting for Two" for $125 per couple. It gives you their bread, choice of any individual 5 items (no repeats, no limitations), and a dessert. It is an INSANE value for the quality and amount of food that you get. We ordered 5 items with the tasting for two, then one additional, which ended up being plenty of food for 3 people to share and taste everything. My favorite, hands down, was the Wagyu Hanger - given the cost and the taste, I would order this every time, even if there is something else on the menu. Everything we ordered was amazing. My least favorite (not due to the restaurant, but more because of taste) was caviar. I think it's a bit lost on me, so I wouldn't order this one again. I had the opportunity to visit a couple Michelin star restaurants in Chicago and absolutely loved the tasting menu experience, high quality food, and exceptional service. I did not think that I could get such an experience in Grand Rapids. I was wrong - Grove provides an immersion into fine dining that you can't find anywhere else in the city. My date and I tried the tasting menu for 2 as part of their Valentines day promotion. It included bread, 5 main courses, and a dessert. I started off with an espresso martini. I'm not a drinker whatsoever but this was delicious. It was creamy, almost a melted ice cream mouthfeel, with a not bitter punch of coffee, finished by the liquor. The first dish to come out was the bread and butter. I was not expecting to be thinking about bread days after I ate it but here I am. The flavor was incredibly complex from all the spices and herbs. Each bite I tasted something different - sometimes sweet sometimes savory. Crunchy and flaky on the outside and warm and fluffy on the inside. It came with a pad of house made butter which had a nice sweetness to it. First course - beef carpaccio. This dish is thin slices of (mostly) raw beef on a bed of pickled radish and carrots, jalapenos, cilantro, with an aioli. As a fan of pickled foods, I loved this. It was bright, clean, acidic, and had a nice variety of flavors and textures. Second course - bucatini. Bucatini pasta noodles, gouda, parmesan, topped with breadcrumbs. The noodles were cooked to perfection. I had forgotten how amazing pasta is when it's done right. This was heavy, creamy, and very savory. The gouda really showed its complex flavor in this dish. The portion size was also perfect - I think if you tried to eat more than one serving of this pasta you would get flavor fatigue pretty fast. Third course - porchetta. Pork belly and sausage rolled together served over navy beans, topped with chard, fennel, and apple. This was perhaps the best pork belly I've ever tried. You can literally cut through it with ease like its soft butter. It really was the closest thing I've tried to "melt in your mouth". I didn't care much for the sausage's flavor and the beans seemed a bit bland. The toppings were pretty but didn't add much in terms of flavor or contrast. I think this dish would be perfect if they just slightly rework it. Fourth course - smoked potato. Small fried potatoes, white cheddar fondue, pickled onions and peppers, topped with chive powder. The potatoes were crispy and the pickled peppers and onions were great complimentary flavors. The white cheddar fondue was extremely heavy and flavorful which I enjoyed. I thought this was an excellent dish but it just needed a touch of finishing salt to round it out. Fifth course - lamb chops. Two lamb chops topped with blackberry and a side of mint yogurt sauce and dijon celery root slaw. The lamb was juicy, tender, and flavorful. I honestly could not tell it apart from a high-quality steak. It paired excellently with the blackberry and mint yogurt - I could still clearly taste all of the lamb's flavor with them. The celery root slaw was also excellent. It had a crunchy and refreshing texture and tasted only mildly of celery. It's very comparable to coleslaw. I think it's an excellent alternative to a side salad. Finally, the desert. We opted for the vanilla cheesecake which was vanilla shortbread cookies with cheesecake filling and black currant. I think it's a bit of a stretch to call this cheesecake but I was delicious nonetheless. The crackers were crunchy, the cheesecake filling was a bit thin (almost like whipped cream) but sweet, and the black currant was tart and tasted similar to blackberries. All the dishes were beautifully plated and had lots of thought put into them. Our server was simply incredible. They explained each dish before it was served (including all of the ingredients), what to expect, their recommendations, etc. I particularly enjoyed the bread and bucatini dishes, although everything I tried was outstanding. All in all, this was an excellent experience that was comparable to the 1 Michelin star restaurants I visited in Chicago. I know it can be a bit intimidating if you've never tried a restaurant of this sort, but I promise you it's an incredible experience and the staff knows every inch of the menu to help you out along the way. There were a few minor pain points. We went for their Valentines Day promotion which they promoted with a special menu while still offering to order off their regular menu. This was true, but only for the drinks and desserts. I was looking forward to getting to try some of the dishes off the snack menu, but no big deal. The Valentines menu was also more expensive for the tasting for two at $150 (regularly $125) which was a surprise to me when I got there. Lastly, the website is a bit confusing on what dates you can do the tasting for two. Some parts say it's Tuesday-Saturday, other parts say it's Friday-Saturday. read more

One year later and we are happy to report that nothing has changed. Food and service were still excellent. The tasting for two is the way to go--it's just the right amount of food. If you're looking for elevated dinning, this is the place for you. The menu you is small but each plate is thoughtfully composed. I was blown away by the potatoes with a Smokey cheese sauce and the spiced sweet potato cake came with candies cranberries that added an acidic element, rounding out the meal. On a dark fall night with a chilly breeze, sharing a meal with friends in a cozy restaurant with a warm ambience was the perfect way to spend the evening. It was lively and bustling with music playing in the background. The cocktails and mocktails were enjoyable and refreshing. The food was tasty and satisfying, characterized by flavorful and unique sauces. The chocolate gelato was the best I've ever had--it was vegan, but you couldn't tell. Arrived at our reservation time and sat right away. Intimate environment, formal but not too formal. Great for a special romantic occasion. The food was fantastic. I was so happy and excited to hear that Grove was reopening! A friend and I quickly mad reservations to check it out, as we were both very excited. We made reservations on their website. They do require a $10 deposit per person for reservations. If you cancel within the timeframe or show up for your reservation, you are refunded the deposit. I LOVE the renovation that they have done on the inside. It is so beautiful, very open, modern, and just stunning. The cocktail menu is small but they are able to make just about anything. Their cocktails are beautiful, unique, and delicious. I started with the Mr. Green Genes and it was so refreshing and well balanced. I had them make me a mezcal margarita and they did a fantastic job - great flavor and very fresh. I also tried a chardonnay - the Uni chard was SO good. To start we had the mushrooms and the cucumbers. They were both outstanding. So very pretty and well plated but also delicious. All the flavors were so complimentary and so very well thought out. I was happy with the portion size of these dishes, too. Enough for two of us to have two helpings of each. We both ordered the Hamachi collar and it was fantastic. Cooked perfection - medium. The fish had a wonderful light flavor and the seasoning was outstanding. I will say that this is not a huge dish and it is on the lighter side - it was perfect for me after two appetizers. I think this dish would be a nice shared plate, too! All in all our experience at the new and improved Grove was topnotch! I am so happy to have them back and look forward to many more visits! We planned our dinner for our 16th Anniversary trip in GR not knowing anything about Grove. My, oh my. There is 1-2 gems in each town we visit and this was definitely Grand Rapids gem. Culinary art, along with wonderfully matched service was what we were met with at Grove. Although it got pricey due to our Dining for two option which included bread, 5 menu options of our choice, and a dessert, it was mainly on us for opting for the Ribeye upcharge, which we didn't regret! A definitively upscale restaraunt, one expects to pay $40-70 per head and even more with a few drinks. Will definitely sing its praises and also venture here again as our entire experience was well worth the trip! Try it out for a special occasion on just for a fun evening out!!! read more
