The food here is amazing! Stopped by one evening for a few drinks and ended up ordering a few plates. While I felt the drinks were lacking. Either way to sour from fruit juices or completely way to much "extras" on and in the glass. The gin and tonic was just that a g&t but with so much filler, I ended up just taking off everything and enjoying just my drink for $14. Next time I will just stick to the wine. My hubby had their old fashion which was smoked with a really neat machine. He really isn't one for the smoked drinks but this one wasn't too over powering so it don't taste like you were drinking a campfIre. As for the food, WOW! just wow. This was our first trip to Fireproof and it has been on our list for a while to try. The space is inviting when you walk in and it's definitely a classy place. The bar is decorated in dark colors and is dimly lit - perfect for a nice drink and some apps! The menu is super simple and it's sold as a tapas style event. We ended up settling for the Baba Ghanoush, Wagyu Skirt Steak, and the Chorizo Mussels. The baba had great flavor and came out with piping hot naan bread that was perfect for transporting everything right to your mouth! The steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare, recommended by Andrew the bartender, and was covered in an excellent chimichurri. The mussels were some of the best I've had and the chorizo that accompanied them was expertly prepared. This is one of those dishes that you will get every-time you visit this restaurant. The drinks are also really nicely prepared and most of them have some time of smoke or fire associated with them, which I think is why they are named fireproof! Fireproof is an upscale style restaurant with an overpriced wine list meant to make you think it's upscale, and pretty decent, though not exceptional food. I highly recommend the corn tapas. It's easy to spend $100 here, and I think the tapas they serve are a little overpriced at $16/plate or something versus $8 - but hey that's Short North. So Eric why are you giving it a 4 star rating? One reason: Belgian Beers on tap. Chimay and Duvel ON TAP. This is a rarity if not completely non existent anywhere in Columbus. I was really really excited to finally try out Fireproof since they opened couple months ago. My girlfriends and I chose to come here for a small dinner to try out their small plates tonight. The atmosphere is attractive and gives out great vibes that welcomes conversations and mingling amongst those who walk in through the doors. Visually, I was very I impressed and happy to be there. I selected two items from the menu, one was the Shishito peppers and the other was the ahi tuna ceviche. My friends ordered the fried rice, lamb meatballs, queso fondue, mussels, and some desserts in the end. The shishito peppers were really just okay. I made myself eat it more than I enjoyed, and what's sad is that shishito peppers are hard to mess up. It was way to citrus-y to where it was borderline too sour to enjoy. The ceviche with plantain chips were good but not amazingly delicious. Nothing to complain about but not to rave about either. My friends were great fans of the vegetable fried rice. I personally do not enjoy mushy fried rice, but if my friends enjoyed it I'm assuming others might too! My biggest takeaway was that although the presentation was great, what I had was not amazing. We first came here a few months ago for drinks and were so impressed by how good they all were and thought the menu sounded good so decided to come here to try the food for my husband's birthday. We chose the Chef's Taste, we informed our waiter what we generally liked and the chef selected items to come out two plates at a time as a five course meal. In no particular order, I can't remember: The first was porkbelly and sashito peppers. Tender and flavorful pork with Korean flavors. These were our favorite. Second was the wagyu dumpling and brussel sprouts salad. Delicious. Third, was wagyu sliders which could have been better. The meat was a bit dry, my buns were a bit burnt, the flavors didn't pop out to me despite it having bacon and jam. One of my least favorite dishes. Fried rice was also served, it was different. Had a hint of pineapple flavor. Not bad, just different. Don't expect it to taste like your usual fried rice. Fourth was grilled octopus. Good flavor and char. Had artichokes which were just artichokes lol. Fifth was skirt steak and curry cauliflower. Skirt steak had a stronger beef flavor than I was used to. Husband said it was pretty good. The curry sauce in the cauliflower was enjoyable, I would have liked to seen chicken or potatoes added similar to thr Asian curries I eat. We got white peach sangria($12), butterfly tea lemonade($15), shishito pepper caipirinha($15) and espresso martini($16). My husbands favorite was the butterfly tea (which was really good I'm just not a personal fan of tea) and mine was the white peach sangria. All the drinks were good my only 2 complaints the espresso martini had all the vodka at the bottom and the shishito pepper caipirinha had like 2 entire limes in it and I wasn't a fan of all the lime chunks. The alcohol base of that drink was novo fogo and it was really good and my first time ever trying or seeing it. The drink was essentially just sugar and novo fogo with limes a cold shishito pepper. I liked the vibe this place gave off it was a cool dining area and bar. Everything here is small plate style and they are on the pricey range. Another complaint I have is these are suppose to shareable dishes but each dish we got came with and uneven number. We got elote($11), lamb meatballs($16), Wagyu dumplings($16), pork belly($15), chorizo mussels ($18). This was a wide array of dishes it didn't seem like there was much cohesiveness to the menu. It felt like an interpretation of an around the world experience. The elote was tasty and my husbands favorite but I think it didn't have enough cotija cheese and so it was swimming in spicy mayo. The wagyu dumplings were good but they were on par with other dumplings I've had for 1/3 of the price. The pork belly had an delicious gochujang glaze but that's the best part of the dish after that the pork belly was charred and dry. I would suggest bigger slices if your going to char it that much or not charring it to that extent. The lamb meatballs were flavorful but lamb meatballs by themselves are delicious these were floating pool of red sauce which my husband and I agreed was too much. The chorizo mussels were my favorite dish they were also the most filling of everything we got. I wish it had less of the sauce so you could actually find all the chorizo at the bottom. Everything overall was good plus we had a good time but there was nothing to draw us back in especially at those prices. At the end of our date night we spent about $180. read more

Really enjoyed Fireproof! The decor inside is modern and upscale. We went during happy hour (5:00) on a Wednesday. We made reservations but definitely didn't need them. There were only two other tables filled during our time dining there. They have great "tapas style" small plates. They have a great happy hour menu, with 50% off all drinks and select dishes. We got the fireproof potatoes, veggie fried rice, waygu sliders, and peach sangria. The sangria was delicious and very strong. Definitely worth $6.00 on the happy hour menu! The fireproof potatoes were ok but had a strong smoky taste that I wasn't a fan of. They were $4.50 on the happy hour menu. They came in a cute Chinese takeout style container! The fried rice also came in the same container. I liked the fried rice a lot! It was not on the happy hour menu and was $11.00. I believe the waygu sliders were $6.00. I loved the crispy shallots that came on them! The waygu was prepared like a brisket and had a smoked taste. Our server was attentive and friendly and we had an overall great experience. Looking at the menu, I couldn't decide what to order. Everything sounded delicious! We ended up ordering the warm olives, grilled octopus, wagyu dumplings and seared scallops. We enjoyed everything, but the octopus. The flavor was great, but it was so tough that it was not enjoyable to eat. The overall atmosphere was cool. Not somewhere I would take someone if conversing is the main goal of the night because of the volume of the music. Throughout the night my table had to either guess at what the waiter was saying or the person on the end had to repeat it back. The worst part of the night was how slow the service was. If service is slow, the restaurant should at least bring the drinks on a timely fashion, so you're not sitting there empty handed. We ended up only getting to try one cocktail each with how long it took to get the first one and then not seeing our waiter for most of dinner. To their credit, the cocktails were great! We had the Sapphire Saturn and the Spanish Old Fashion. Because it is still a new restaurant, I think that it will still take time to get into rhythm. I'm a little sad that my first review of 2023 has to be about a so-so experience, but here we are. My girlfriend and I received a $100 gift certificate to this place, and were excited to try it. We made a reservation awhile back for Sunday at 6:00, and when we arrived yesterday, we immediately realized no reservation was necessary. There were only two other tables with diners! We found that a little odd. The ambiance is nice (definitely on the dim/romantic side), though the big screen TVs broadcasting sports sort of sent mixed messages about what kind of dining experience it was supposed to be. The waiter, Devin, was friendly enough, and explained the menu effectively: most things are tapas, and are meant to be shared. With that in mind, we ordered some wagyu dumplings, the pair of steak fillets, and the scallops. We also ordered a white sangria cocktail. Honestly, the food was disappointing given the price and the portions. We totally "get" tapas, and have had them many times before...but these portions were very small even for tapas. Five tiny dumplings for $22, two small fillets for over $30, and two (yes, two) scallops for $20 or so as well all seemed rather underwhelming. If the food was amazing, then sure...but the dumplings were "fine" (my girlfriend even asked "where's the wagyu?"), the fillets were good (the sauce was the best part), and the scallops were cooked well enough...but completely overpowered by spicy chorizo. It almost blew out my palate entirely. The sangria was also so-so, and Devin offered to replace it, but we politely declined. All told, we were very glad we had a gift certificate for this place, as we would have been even more disappointed had we spent over $100 of our own money. After the first three items, we decided that was enough, and...well...I feel a little bad about saying this, but we drove through a Wendy's on the way home to help sate our appetites. I really think Fireproof has some potential, but it seems to have an identity crisis, being unsure of what it actually *is*. We recently had dinner at Fireproof to celebrate a birthday in our family. Having never been there before, we are anxious to try their menu. The food was good. The service was terrible. The manager was oblivious to everything going on in his presence. The waitstaff and kitchen workers were chatting and paying no attention to the very few customers in the establishment. In addition, we were constantly swatting flies and gnats. This is an enclosed restaurant! We had to walk our check to the manager as we waited several minutes for our server to return to our table. The manager handed our check to another worker who brought the bill back to our table. At no time did the manager check on us or ask how things were going. As we left, my husband told the manager there were flies and gnats in the restaurant and it needed to be addressed. My husband also informed the manager that the service we received was poor.The manager continued to follow us toward the door asking what he could do. We said pay more attention to your customers and keep an eye on your employees. He continued following us and we asked him to stop. He continued to ask what he could do as we left the building. The manager's attitude and lack of respect for the customer was very disappointing. The cost of the meal was well above $100. We expected much better service than we received. read more

I also liked that they had a handful of vegetarian options which would be perfect for me. I went with the fried rice and it was very flavorful, though I do wish there was a bit more spice. I went with their butterfly tea lemonade cocktail which was the most "Instagramable" and pretty cocktail they had. I am looking forward to coming back so I can try some of their other vegetable dishes. Almost all of their dishes are tapas style but they do have two that are more of an entrée size. One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. My girlfriend and I had our date night here and it was the first time either of us had gone.
