I am going to update with 4 stars. I love customer service! After my review, I received a message from the owner stating that they would address the issue by providing me with another meal. I did not expect anything when I did my review, so this was a pleasant surprise. I was instructed to show the cashier the message when it was time to pay. A few days later, I went back and ordered the crab cake. When it was time to pay, I was about to show the message, but as soon as I said the word "show", the cashier said, "Oh, yelp." I said, "yes." And asked him if he already knew. He said, "Yes, we were told the next day." "We're sorry about that." I was SO impressed! Not only did the owner take time to message me, but informed other staff to ensure that the problem would be addressed. That shows a business that takes pride in what they do. Now, I did not get the salmon again LOL. I stuck to what I knew....which was the crab cake. However, I will be going back to Fireman's Cafe and would try the salmon again in the future since it appears that this establishment values their customers. read more

Like the service and the meats. Love the pulled pork sandwich and ribs. Make sure to ask for sauce. Hours vary so be sure to call ahead. Baked beans and yams were loaded with sugar. Best to avoid if you are avoiding sugar in your diet. Coleslaw is average with a good sized portion. Did not add anything to meal. I am updating my review based on the last visit and what I felt was lack of fairness on my part for the overall review So I'll start with what I had and will go from there: Shrab bisque ( hope I spelled that right) two small cups, very creamy and buttery, but the cream base was scorched so that took away from the overall flavor, so I can't give a review cause I don't feel I really got the true essence of the product.....as many of friends who have been here said it was good. So thank you to management for offer to replace. Catfish and fries, yummy catfish, I think pieces were small, could have used another piece as these were more like strips not whole fillets. Wings and fries, friend had these, said these were good, he would have liked more seasoning on the wings but said they were good I do think that with all the new fish and wing places popping up that business will need to add something more to these platters to stay competitive as their price point a bit higher than other places in the area. Just my thoughts Shrab fries, friend loved these. As did I very unique dish, I'd get these again. Location, behind the Rita's across from the real firehouse ( how cute) Actual restaurant, small carry out place, comfortable to sit and wait for order, very clean, nicely decorated. Staff and service-Cool no complaints at all really nice friendly service. This little spot is so cute! The owner is a retired DC fireman and the cafe is decorated like a firehouse!! The staff is very friendly and professional. I was there for that SHRABCAKE!! And I must say it was the BOMB!! I ordered the platter (minus the bun) with Cole slaw and cabbage. That Shrabcake gave me LIFE!! A mix of crab meat and shrimp??!!! WHAT!! I wanted to order like 5 more, but didn't want to seem like a glutton.. Lol! And the sauce is delicious too! Cole slaw was good, cabbage was ok.. First let me say the customer service is everything. You're greeted with a smile. I can't tell you how many establishments I've walked out off because the person at the counter didn't greet me with a smile. It's all about the energy for me and their cashier is on point. Second it didn't take hours to prepare my order. Very sufficient waiting time. Last but not least TASTE...OMGGGG when I tell you the Shrab Cake was big, meaty, fulllll of flavor I swear I could have eaten 3 it was so good. And don't let me start on the greens I got a double serving then ordered another because they were so delicious. I highly recommend trying them out. Tried this place on a whim just because we were close by and hungry. We will definitely be coming back. We both got a pulled pork platter. Incredibly tasty. The sides really made the place though. First time trying this place out! I got the butterfly shrimps with candied yams as sides and also the buffalo wingettes with fries. Staff was nice, food was BOMB! I loved the interior design and it was great getting food from here as I also am in the fire department. I wish there was a discount for Fire/EMS but there weren't! My first experience with Fireman's Cafe was their food truck in Washington, DC. I was leery with food trucks on the whole but there are a few that I have had great experiences with. I am a big fan of seafood and seeing the long line I thought to try something to see what the hoopla was about. I got the shrabcake and about lost my mind. It was so good. I've tried other items from Fireman's but honestly the shrabcake is their number one item for me. Really wanted to like this place. The menu and the food video drew me in. We purchased 2 Shrab rolls, and the disappointment commenced. For the price, the portion size didn't impress. The crab meat in the Shrab had a spoiled, ammonia-like taste to it. The Shrab roll bun was not toasted and I didn't taste any butter or garlic on it. To end on a positive note, the fries were decent. I discovered this place on Yelp several weeks ago and decided to pay them a visit. There was a recall on the lump crab at the time so they didn't have what I went to get which was the shrabcake (apparently what they're famous for) so I got the shrab fries and a half smoke. Neither was anything to write home abt and I likely wldnt order either again. I didn't like the battered style fries they used and they drowned my fries in the crab sauce which wasn't that tasty and even if it was good, it was just way too much sauce-literally (). I was so excited to try this place as it is black owned and I wanted to be supportive. I am very disappointed. The portion sizes look like they are for children. I got a entree of the shrab mac and cheese. It literally came in the container that most places put the side dishes. And the crab and shrimp were not baked into the Mac and cheese. It was literally noddles with the crab and tiny shrimp thrown on top. Barely any cheese. I also got a lobster roll. It was one roll but on bread that was the size of a hot dog bun. The lobster sandwich is literally bread with a boiled lobster just laid on top. No lettuce, or tomato or anything else that would actually make it a sandwich. Overall I would not order from here again. I spent 55 dollars and everyone was left hungry. We had to eat another dinner. read more

Okay so the food is great and I am not doubting this at all...my only concern was that as I was trying to enjoy my shrab cake sandwich which had plenty of lump crab meat and the flavors were on point but for some reason I kept biting into tiny pieces of shell. So I thought this cant be the entire crab cake but of course with each bite it kept getting worse with more and more shells as I had to spit each bite out then of course I took my fingers to fish through the crab cakes to find more shells...this was such a huge dissapointment for this was the most expensive sandwich on the menu. Mind you $15 for the sandwich $20 for the platter. I would love to come back and do a retake but honestly I'm too afraid because there were a couple of sharp pieces of shell that were found. I do hope this is fixed really soon because once again the flavor and portion size were great. I also had mac n cheese with yams and catfish which were good too...I attached pics for those who thinks I am lying. I am not sure if it is okay to eat shells on the crab and of course I heard of people who eat soft shell crab but this was not soft shells they were hard, crunchy, and sharp. So I've recently been on the search for a spot serving good side dishes made how *Mom Dukes* use to do!. So I decided to give Firemans Cafe a try. I must say it took a couple of tries to find the spot because it is tucked away behind Rita's. I suggest replacing the small 'Firemans Cafe' sign thats sets on the curb apon entry, to a much bigger one. To match the big and bold flavors off the food Be proud! I received pleasant customer service from a younger gentlemen( I'm sorry I am not good with names but I promise to get better as I yelp) I ordered the collared greens and cabbage, witch took now time..... Sheeeeshh!!!! The cabbage had a nice smokey flavor that came through just right and pared well with the seasonings. The collards had my car smelling like grandma's kitchen on the holidays and they were delicious as well.
