Stumbled upon Fireman's Cafe while we were passing through. We looked at the menu and could not wait, literally. (Lol) We asked if we could order before they opened (12pm), but understandably we were told no. We did not mind (it was only 10 minutes until they opened) and conveniently there is a 24/7 store that you could walk through. When they did open, Sabrina welcomed us at the front and took our order. We ordered the Shrabster roll and Catfish platter. She was so sweet, she gave us a complimentary soda for waiting. They also take out the food to your car during Covid since dine in is not available yet. When we got home, the food was absolutely delish! This is a cool little place if you want to get your seafood fix. I got the engine 28 shrab fries and they were okay. The sauce is a little bit on the sweet side which caught me off guard. I was expecting more of a cheesy creamy taste similar to that of crab dip and that certainly wasn't it. The fries were also cold which was a big disappointment, but I'm sure this would have been much better if the fries were pipping hot. The hushpuppies aren't bad. They aren't the chesapeake bay seafood house type hushpuppies, but they definitely will get the job done. The hook man shrab and lobster bisque was really good. You get a generous portion of meat in this bisque and its seasoned well too. I'm usually a little skeptical when it comes to crab cakes sandwiches, but I got the truck 8 shrab cake and I was really impressed with the consistency of the meat. If they upgraded the bun with a bigger potato roll or kaiser roll, the shrab cake will be off the charts. read more

Found this place by just stopping at the store next door. After looking up reviews decided to try it. The place just opened and we were the first ones there for the day. We ordered the salmon platter and catfish platter with two sides. Took about 20 minutes for the food to get ready. Inside there are some stools you can sit and eat but not restaurant style. More pick up and go. Really satisfied with the food, the Mac and cheese was great! The fries are really good too with the seafood on top. I would definitely recommend this place! read more

The restaurant is behind another business so you definitely have to look clOsely when looking for it. The restaurant isn't very huge but it's not super small either. Ended up eating 3/4 of the salty sandwich due to being super hungry. Coleslaw had too much mayo. Fries were good. Food was good. The place needs some better advertising. When you get to the location there is so much Fireman history, lore and regalia on the walls. Be that as it may, the mac-n-cheese was ok. I suffered on the car ride home, the food smelled sooo good. When I got home, the container was so flimsy, I thought I was going to lose my food. They def should consider some containers that are more durable. I wasn't a big fan of the sandwich...it was too mayonnaisey for me, I know they said pretty much no filler but I feel like they substituted the filler for mayo. So where do I begin....I ordered the shrabcake sandwich with a side of french fries, and that came up to $18 bucks, and I'm thinking to myself that this should be a pretty good size cake for this much, and it was. There was a lot of crab (not much shrimp however) and lots of shells...every bite I took I was pulling bits of shell out of my mouth, which is a real turn off. Now let's go to the horrible disappointment, my side of fries. My entire of order of fries, which you can clearly see in my photo below, was about the same amount of fries you get in a happy meal, a hand full of fries for 3 dollars. I could have gotten a tray full of fries for 3 dollars at a carry out, or at McDonald's in that case. I placed by order for one shrab cake sandwich. The cost was very steep due to a crab shortage as per the signage in front of the cash register. The shrab cake was absolutely delicious! It was the right amount of crab and shrimp fried perfectly in a nice lump size. The bun was buttery and soft. It was by far the best I had ever tasted! It's going to be a hard no for me. My fiancé found Fireman Cafe on IG and pressed for him and I to go. After months of talking about it and not being about it, we decided to give it a try since we were in the area. I ordered the shrabster roll with a side of Mac and cheese and fries. My fiancé orders the whiting and wings along with the sweet potatoes. We tried the sweet potatoes first- DISGUSTING AS HELL. Do not recommend whatsoever. Mac and cheese tasted like a blast of garlic powder. The roll was OK, but I would rather waste my carbs on something else. My fiancé said his wings and whiting was terrible. He didn't say much more. His actions said it all when he ate a few bites and trashed the rest. Most importantly- we waited 25 minutes for the food to come out and for it to not be HOT. I love and believe in black businesses. Had the opportunity to try the Fireman's Cafe food truck tonight at the Hotel I am staying at. I had the Mild Hot dog (sorry I can't recall the name) and the side of mac n cheese. The beef hot dog was larger and reminded me of a red hot smokee which was good. The mac n cheese was really good it had a smoky taste to it which was great. I am going to update with 4 stars. I love customer service! After my review, I received a message from the owner stating that they would address the issue by providing me with another meal. I did not expect anything when I did my review, so this was a pleasant surprise. I was instructed to show the cashier the message when it was time to pay. A few days later, I went back and ordered the crab cake. When it was time to pay, I was about to show the message, but as soon as I said the word "show", the cashier said, "Oh, yelp." I said, "yes." And asked him if he already knew. He said, "Yes, we were told the next day." "We're sorry about that." I was SO impressed! Not only did the owner take time to message me, but informed other staff to ensure that the problem would be addressed. That shows a business that takes pride in what they do. Now, I did not get the salmon again LOL. I stuck to what I knew....which was the crab cake. I am updating my review based on the last visit and what I felt was lack of fairness on my part for the overall review So I'll start with what I had and will go from there: Shrab bisque ( hope I spelled that right) two small cups, very creamy and buttery, but the cream base was scorched so that took away from the overall flavor, so I can't give a review cause I don't feel I really got the true essence of the product.....as many of friends who have been here said it was good. So thank you to management for offer to replace. Catfish and fries, yummy catfish, I think pieces were small, could have used another piece as these were more like strips not whole fillets. Wings and fries, friend had these, said these were good, he would have liked more seasoning on the wings but said they were good I do think that with all the new fish and wing places popping up that business will need to add something more to these platters to stay competitive as their price point a bit higher than other places in the area. Just my thoughts Shrab fries, friend loved these. As did I very unique dish, I'd get these again. Location, behind the Rita's across from the real firehouse ( how cute) Actual restaurant, small carry out place, comfortable to sit and wait for order, very clean, nicely decorated. Like the service and the meats. Love the pulled pork sandwich and ribs. Make sure to ask for sauce. Hours vary so be sure to call ahead. Baked beans and yams were loaded with sugar. Best to avoid if you are avoiding sugar in your diet. Coleslaw is average with a good sized portion. Did not add anything to meal. The cornbread is flavorful and moist but again tasted like more sugar than necessary. read more
