There was so little meat and condiments on this sandwich, it was an extreme disappointment.

One of the worst experiences I have had in ANY restaurant ever. The 4-person staff treated the 11 people who were in there while I was there. like we were a burden. (Keeping them from going home on time is my guess.) The cashier could not have had a worse attitude, bordering on rude. Acted as though it was a bother that she had to take my order. With all of us waiting on sandwiches, one person was making them while one other stood around, and the other two were working on closing procedures, cleaning up, etc. My sandwich could not have been more disappointing. For what you pay, you should feel like you are getting your money's worth. The manager looked up as I walked in the door, and instead of smiling or greeting me. He gave me a look like why are you coming in here. I went to the pick up counter after 15 minutes, and a young man proceeded to walk past me and ask everyone else there if they were Ray, even two girls. SERIOUSLY! I also stood at the pickup counter for five minutes. I did not know I had to order at the register, and the two girls on the other side of the counter could not be bothered with directing me to the register until I asked them where I should order. In all honesty, if I were the owner/ manager, I would not even bother to reprimand or correct these four individuals. They are not what you want in a restaurant or and service-related job. It is sad, as the Firehouse product, when made properly, is a good sandwich. What I received for $12 is criminal. The crew is the clsoing staff on Dec. 3rd. I hope ownership/management does something about this. Looking at all the 1 star reviews, I doubt it. AVOID this place.

I'll admit it, I was put off by the Yelp rating. I wasn't too broken up about it since I'm not that big on sandwiches anyway. However, my husband wanted to try them and stated they had a much higher rating on Google. Since he was starving and I wasn't too hungry, it seemed like a good time to try them out (for me anyway). Though we weren't greeted upon entering, I can't say that I had the same experience as other recent reviews. I don't know if they went through a rough patch, and they are over it, or if I just chose the right time to come. We arrived Sunday, late evening, and they were about a third full. While we were there, people continued to come in. This wasn't an issue as the building is deeper than it looks and has plenty of tables and seating. You have to walk the length of the counter to order at the register. The cashier seemed to be giving us space to look at the menu, but once he approached us, I would say he was friendly, helpful and engaged. The menu was large and easy to read, but I got a little confused here. I had checked out their menu online (yeah, I get menu anxiety) and it had listed specialty sandwiches, hot subs, cold subs and a variety of salads. This menu seemed to list the specialty sandwiches and salads and everything else was a Build Your Own. When I asked about the roast beef, the cashier clarified I wanted a BYO and I didn't see anything on the menu stating otherwise. I'm not complaining as this came out cheaper than the roast beef had been listed online, but I didn't remember a BYO available online. It was just a weird, confusing moment for me. I personally like that they toast all their subs unless you request otherwise. The choice is limited to white or wheat, you know... in case that's too basic for you. You can order it fully involved- mayo, deli mustard, lettuce, tomato, onions with a kosher dill pickle on the side. Sides are limited to chips, chili and a side salad. If you do a combo with chips and a drink it's $2.59 for a medium, but only 15 cents more for a large. They also had brownies and cookies at the register. Price wise it looks like all those specialty sandwiches range from $4-9 depending on which one you get and if you get a small, medium or large. Service wise, they had the person at the register and 3 other employees that were making the sandwiches and bringing them out to the tables. It seemed they had enough staffing for the crowd as we only waited a few minutes after getting our drink and sitting down. My husband tried their Smokehouse Beef and Cheddar, which is the most expensive sandwich they have. It's brisket, cheddar and sweet barbecue sauce. It also came with mayo, but he nixed that. He chose the medium size, which appeared to be 8 inches for $7.49. Between that and the chips, he finished off the sandwich and was satisfied. I tried a bite and it tastes as you would expect, not bad for a sandwich shop. By contrast, I got the cheapest item- a small build your own for $3.99. I got the roast beef on white, fully involved, minus the onions... so 'somewhat invested' I suppose, instead of 'fully involved'. The small seemed like it was a 4 inch. Though we didn't get one, I think the large was probably 12 inches, based on nearby tables. Thank God, they had fresh veggies. Soggy, limp lettuce might be my biggest pet peeve next to soggy tomatoes. These veggies were crisp and fresh. The deli mustard was very good and the mix with the mayo was exactly as it should be. The roast beef tasted much better than it normally does at similar sandwich shops and I think the small and medium are actually a little larger than the competition's small and medium. I actually enjoyed and finished my sandwich, despite not being very hungry and not really digging sandwiches all that much. It was nice to get a decent sandwich, for some reason all the Subways in town seem to be awful. Though I think $15 is a little high for a medium combo and a small sandwich, upon further reflection that does seem to be the going rate these days. I don't think the current rating on Yelp was a reflection of my experience here. I would return for the roast beef again and to try some of the other items. I would suggest you give them a shot.

I paid $7.57 for this sad excuse for a sandwich. Like really lol? Well I definitely won't be back.

Paid 7.57 for this tiny little sandwich. Over priced bird food. I won't be back. Like how is this acceptable lol.

Normally, I don't consider people from St. Louis to be credible deli evaluators, but I was desperate and made the hour drive to Grapevine. We got there at 11:15 and the line was nearly to the door. Within 30 minutes, it was well out into the street. That was a promising sign. The sandwich menu covered the entire wall over the counter. Lots of non-New-York sandwiches like Cubans, gyros, etc, but over in the left corner were the classic Ruebens and pastramis. I went for the latter. A REAL NY deli usually has a few soups like split pea and chicken noodle and matzoh. No soups. Bummer. They had a half dozen sides - 3 kinds of potato salads and a few slaws. I went with the German potato salad. The drink option was spartan - they tossed a styrofoam cup at me and pointed to the soda fountain. The pastrami sandwich was OK for Texas. A SUPER pastrami sandwich on hard rye can get me moaning like Meg Ryan in "When Harry Met Sally" -- only I don't have to fake it. The German potato salad was watery and bland - I should have gone with the mustard potato salad. Turnaround was on the slow side. Napkins = paper towel roll on table. Flimsy plasticware. The overall vibe was affordable utilitarian. I'll give the sandwich a 4, everything else a 3. Next time I'll drive the extra half hour to Cindi's.

When we got home, we realized they had swapped the breads on our sandwiches and put pepper jack on both. After switching the bread myself, I had to add my own tomato and onion because apparently no toppings are included or if they are they forgot to put them in the bag. The pumpernickel was also incredibly thin and the crust was thicker than the actual slice of bread. The chicken was stringy, had a strange texture, and honestly tasted like something you'd get in a hospital cafeteria. We also ordered the potato salad, which had one of the oddest flavors we've ever tasted, and the cucumber salad was anything but fresh. 2 bites of each and threw in the trash. The cucumber slices were wilted, soft, and tasted like they had been sitting for days. The only thing we actually enjoyed was the lemon bar. I honestly could have saved my money and made a much better sandwich at home. I don't understand the hype, and unfortunately, we won't be back.
