"House of Soul" has been serving the City of Vallejo and the SF Bay Area since 1968. Any…read morerestaurant that has made it this long must have the winning formula of good food, service and value. I was in the Vallejo area, and saw House of Soul on Yelp. It was 1.5 miles away, but closing in less than an hour. I decided to go by and see it they were still serving. I wasn't really expecting much 45 mins before closing. I parked right in front, and saw they were cleaning up the dining room. So I asked the young lady if they were still open, and she said "Yes, c'mon in!" I ordered the fried chicken combo meal with mac 'n cheese and green beans. Total was $20.04. I thought it was funny that they price it at $20.04. It would actually look better if it was $19.99. How was the food? I was surprised. 35 mins before closing, and the fried chicken was still moist with a spicy heat to the flavor. The skin was lightly crisp. The mac 'n cheese was creamy. The green beans were just okay. The food was being kept in warmers. There's nothing wrong with keeping food in warmers as long as holding times are observed and proper temps are maintained. As I left both the young lady and the server thanked me for coming. Next time, I will have to return at around dinner time. Support Local Business in the SF Bay Area!

Hella good Korean fried chicken wing spot! I hate how overused "hidden gem" is, but I think K Manna…read moremight actually qualify as one. Chicken wings here are hella crunchy, fully cooked on the inside, and they don't leave you feeling like a tub of lard. They definitely know how to fry these up right! My fave flavor was the honey butter. It had a slight honey sweetness with some salty butteriness to it. The honey and butter balanced out each other well. The problem is, it made me want a bowl of steamed rice. I'd for sure go back here and I'd probably give some of their other menu items a shot.

I don't think it's on their take-out menu, but somehow I was able to locate it. Imagine lean, tender short ribs simmered in a clear broth, served with clear noodles. No need to spruce it up, as it is already flavored perfectly. I would say, it's the closest thing to homemade, without being homemade. The only downside is if you order on Door Dash, they don't tell you that the restaurant closes from 4pm to 4:30pm. But having had to wait outside in the cold, only made the soup that much better.

The wings were fried to perfection where the outside was crispy but the inside was so juicy and tender. But I didn't care for the glaze (which I believe is their "garlic soy glaze"), because it had a strong mustard flavor, which I totally didn't expect from the name. I was really expecting a savory and garlicky soy sauce flavor that would be balanced with a hint of sweetness. So the mustard flavor really took me by surprise and I wasn't a fan - If I had known they used mustard in that glaze, I wouldn't have ordered it. Service was nice and quite fast. I liked how after we placed our order, they pre-warned us that it might take them 20 mins to prepare the wings, although it turned out to be faster than 20 mins, which we appreciated :) The restaurant looks small from the outside but is so spacious on the inside. the restaurant was clean and organized.

Everyone was kind, patient, knowledgeable, and welcoming despite how busy the restaurant was on a Saturday morning. The atmosphere is cozy, homey, and has that classic neighborhood diner feel. & that vanilla milkshake?! Easily the STAR of the show! It tasted like a REAL old fashioned vanilla ice cream milkshake literally thick, creamy, nostalgic perfection. 100000/10 The not-so-good: There's no waitlist or designated waiting area so the entrance got pretty crowded and it was a little confusing figuring out who was actually next in line. My friend and I waited about 1.5 hours to be seated. Once we got seats at the counter, we could see what looked like one chef handling most of the orders, so it quickly made sense why things were moving slowly. Even then, I have to give the staff credit, they stayed incredibly patient and friendly through the rush! We both ordered the crispy pancake special and our food came out about 45 minutes after ordering. Now...the pancakes. My friend and I specifically came after seeing the viral TikTok video of the crispy pancakes, so expectations were HIGH. Unfortunately, the pancakes fell pretty flat for us The edges were crispy but the pancakes tasted noticeably fried and oil heavy. The centers were pretty soggy and the batter itself didn't have much flavor to balance out the oil. I ordered my eggs over medium, but those were also drenched in oil. The bacon was actually nice and crispy, but by that point, my taste buds had clocked into an oil refinery. Service: 100000/10 Ambiance: Cozy & homey Vanilla milkshake: 100000/10 Food: Unfortunately, 0/10 for me Overall, I'm glad I tried Maggie's for myself. The people and hospitality were wonderful and I'd come back for that milkshake alone if there were no wait! Sometimes TikTok sends you to breakfast heaven and sometimes it sends you on a 3hr quest for a really good classic milkshake!
