From the moment we walked in, the hospitality stood out. We were the only Asian group in the restaurant, and the host/manager made us feel genuinely welcome. Even though the wait was busy and around 40 minutes, he still found moments to chat with us and keep the mood light, which made the time pass quickly. Our server was absolutely wonderful. I didn't catch her name, but she was friendly, energetic, warm, and incredibly personable. When she learned we were visiting from China and had spent more time in places like Los Angeles before coming to New Jersey for the first time, she happily shared stories about the local area and made us feel right at home. Her kindness completely changed the feeling of a cold, rainy day. The food was outstanding. We finished everything, even though we were already full, because it was just that good. This is the kind of place where the food is satisfying, the portions are generous, and the experience feels real. I made sure to leave my tip directly for our server because she truly earned it. If there's ever an opportunity for recognition or promotion, I hope management knows what a gem they have on their team. Pompton Queen Diner is a reminder of why classic American diners matter so much. Upon being seated, our server took our drink orders and then proceeded to come back every three minutes or so to ask if we were ready to put our food order in. Despite us responding that we wanted to relax and have a drink before ordering our food, she was relentless in coming back to us. It got to the point where I thought she was going to pull up a chair and simply wait for us to give her our food order. She finally wore us down and we ordered a pizza, not because we were ready to order but simply to give us a chance to relax and enjoy our drinks. We ordered a pizza with Meatball and Extra Sauce. The Extra Sauce request was somehow misinterpreted as a cup of Marinara Sauce placed in the middle of the Pizza Pie. I kid you not - see attached photo. What most frustrated us however was that after coming to our table three times in five minutes to gather our food order, she apparently entered the Witness Protection Program once our Food Order was in. I had to track her down at one point after waiting about 10 or 15 minutes to order a second round of drinks. We also had the misfortune of sitting next to a rather loud foursome who spoke at a volume befitting a Prize Fight Announcer. Now, I understand an Establishment certainly can't ask a customer to lower their voice. But there were very few patrons in the dining room that night and we were seated amongst a cluster of tables while the vast remainder of the dining area remained open. I get that you don't want to seat people at opposite sides of the restaurant, but come on, you could have spaced us out a little better than that. Like other reviewers on here, I would agree the service is generally hit or mis. There have been occasions where our servers were attentive, courteous and accommodating. I can only attribute the inconsistency in service to a lack of training and supervision. Nevertheless, Maggie's remains one of my "go-to's" and I would recommend it to those who have yet to try.

The 2 orders of scallops that my daughter and wife ordered were a bit small in size, when compared with all the other dishes... and a bit overpriced, in my opinion. My wife had the Seafood Marechiara which she enjoyed. I opted for the Chicken scampi over a mushroom/brown risotto. The risotto was very good, but the chicken breast was too well done... not tender at all. What saved the dish was that the risotto was 'saucy' enough to help moisten up the chicken. It is a BYO, so that is a plus.
