I'd never been to this diner before. As a Realtor, I'm normally going to one appointment and another with hardly any time to spare. This time, however, my customer's meeting ran late so she was going to be 45 minutes late. It was in the afternoon, I'd been working since 6:30 am and hadn't eaten all day. So, I drove a bit and found the Lakeside Diner. Well, I am very glad that I did. This is a terrific place. I had a Cobb salad and coffee. It was huge plus they didn't skimp on anything. AND it was prepared freshly. Not the ready to go already done and refrigerated for hours salad. This salad was so big and so rich that I could only eat half and took the other half home with me. Service was outstanding. The receptionist greeted me with a smile - not just the usual grab the menu and take you to your table. Nope. She made me comfortable right away. The waitress was terrific. I saw how she served other people too. I told her that I had to be gone quickly so please bring the check with the food and she did. When you ask someone to change their way of doing things, it rarely works. This time it did. The prices here are fairly reasonable, but the food quality was very mediocre. Ordered the pork skillet, and the pork was quite flavorless, and on the dry side. The dish was full of potatoes too. Other complaint was the service. Granted we were in a large party, but even at the end I requested a box and had to literally chase down my waitress to actually give me one. Diners are one of my favorite places to eat because of their EXTENSIVE menu options, and Lakeside Diner did not disappoint! It felt like we ate the entire menu, but we weren't even close. The pulled pork sliders were one of the favorite things I ate, and even their hot coffee beat a lot of diner coffees in the area. The staff were super friendly, and Chris checked on us multiple times to make sure we were enjoying everything. My wife said she forgot how good food really was coming back here, the owner was super friendly, the service was excellent, had a crock of French onion soup, which was stellar, and delicious moussaka with a perfect Greek salad, all of the vegetables were fresh, and the dressing was delicious The desserts were absolutely wonderful. picked up several pieces of cheesecake at the recommendation of the owner to share with my brother and his wife to be for their upcoming wedding and enjoyed several of the Greek pastries. So glad we found this diner! My wife and I were travelling to Nashville and about 4-5 hours in, started to get hungry. I started searching for places along our route and found the Lakeside Diner. The menu was huge and it wasn't that far off the highway we were one. Wonderful place to grab breakfast. I'm not sure how they got the eggs so fluffy but they were so delicious. I love the true vintage diner feel for myself when I go here the ambience is just so warm and welcoming and the staff is fantastic. A great, traditional old (style) New Jersey diner. Nicely laid out, with far more room than you'd think. Menu features expected diner fare but prepared with great care - and generosity. The fried calamari were fresh & crisp and LIGHTLY coated. Why, they even included tentacles, which are my favorite part. The Cobb salad had a truly generous amount of chicken, atop crispy greens. My wife's grilled chicken caesar wrap was stuffed with tender meat. My Manhattan clam chowder was the real deal, with plenty of clams. And the grilled pork chops were thick, tender and JUICY. Came here for a baked good and was hoping that the muffin was more fresh than what it was... it seemed like it had been baked a few days ago but I was hungry so I ate it! They had many dessert options on display near the entrance and they seemed to have many options on the menu but I did not try anything else. I would come back here to try fresh food though. I was really tickled by the blast from the past I experienced when I first walked into Lakeside Diner. It really has that cozy old timey feel that a lot of other diners have done away with. My group was promptly sat at a large booth, and our waitress came over and took our orders. We started with truffle fries, garlic bread, and pretzel bites. The only thing that stood out were the fries but they weren't really truffle-y, just good and crispy. The pretzel bites were a little stale. They kind of tasted like the ones at the movie theater. Our main dishes were great though. Though I thought my Greek trio was a little salty, it was so good and a great bang for my buck since it was a dinner special that came with soup and dessert. The other people in my party got the buffalo chicken salad, bbq chicken salad, cheesesteak, and burger, and they all enjoyed their meals except for my friend who said his burger was under seasoned. For dessert I had a slice of the chocolate covered cheesecake, which was delicious and creamy. I'd recommend Lakeside to anyone looking for a quick, cheap bite with friends. read more

Terrible service like usual. My wife ordered a salad which was blanketed in dressing. The owner blamed her for not ordering dressing on the side and was upset that she wasn't tipping. This place is notorious for screwing up take out orders and the owner always blames the staff. He never takes responsibility as the owner for the mistakes. Will make sure to tell all our friends in the neighborhood not to go back. FYI Luigi's down the street rules. Give them your business instead. Update: This terrible owner who once again goes to blame everyone else about his business just pus my address up online in his dumb response. Real good move buddy. Also, my daughter was at the restaurant not my son so thank you for insulting my child. Real professional. You had your chance to make this right but chose a $10 salad over a customer who has tried many times to order from your business despite the bad experiences. On our way to Skylands Manor we saw this Diner. This is where we stopped on the way home. It was all lite up and festively decorated for Christmas that even Santa was having a treat-for real!!! We were a party of 4 and were seated at a table. Water was brought to table for us but we waited a bit for the actual server. We were hungry after our outing and ordered some pretzel bits and the Greek fries. Our drinks came out followed shortly by the French Onion soup. The broth was thicker than most and had a nice rich flavor. Not overpowered with onions and had two big croutons with lots of cheese on top. I really enjoyed it. The Greek fries were seasoned well but was a bit short on the Feta cheese. The tzatziki sauce that came with it was very good. Pretzel bits were a bit sparse on serving size but came with plenty of cheese sauce. I had ordered the dinner special of beef brisket but they came back to say it was sold out. A bit disappointed but ordered the alternative choice of meatloaf with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes and green beans. The meatloaf was moist and flavorful, homemade mashed with a nice brown gravy and the green beans were crisp and fresh tasting. My meal also included a dessert and I chose the jello with whipped cream. Yummy! My niece had the Steakhouse salad with Balsamic dressing the steak was plentiful and very tasty! It included mixed greens, tomatoes, red onions and had plenty of blue cheese crumbles. I recommend this and would order if in the area again. Drinks are bottomless and server promptly offered refills. They have a very large dessert assortment in the front with all kinds of yummy looking cakes, pies and pastries. They have specials on the weekend, but we ended up going with our server's recommendations- French toast and banana chocolate chip pancakes. This is a great local diner! I have ordered from them a good amount (all takeout/delivery), and their food is always packaged well and fresh. I've never had cold food delivered from Lakeside Diner. Based on my times picking up my orders from the counter, the interior is everything you'd expect, a classic jersey diner decor that seems to be kept clean, which is great for those who dine inside. Delicious food!!! However, this is where it ends and only gets 3 stars! A friend and I stopped in last Sunday. We were seated right away outside. A server came over and took our orders. She was very friendly. My friend ordered French toast with berries and tea and I the short stack of Pumpkin pancakes and water.. Anyway, about 15 minutes went by, nothing to drink. The tea and water finally came. We noticed a man who appeared to be the manager walk around and chat with people at their tables. My friend and I did ask this man about a site in the area. He did share some information. However, that's where it ended. He never asked us if we need it anything regarding beverages or food. Anyway, another 15 minutes went by, still no food. Nor, was anyone or the manager walking around refilling water glasses or offering more tea or coffee like most diners. The restaurant was not that crowded outside or indoors. I happened to flag down the server and I asked her how the food was coming along. She said it was coming out shortly. In about five minutes, the server came by with the food. Thank heaven, the food was super delicious. There appeared to be only two servers in the entire place. I walked inside of the restaurant and saw our server work the inside of the restaurant too. I did observe another server only on inside. In addition, there was a female sitting down at a table cleaning cups. This restaurant does have a lot of potential. Particularly on a weekend, there is a "strong need" to hire additional servers. Our server was very friendly, and professional, but there was just entirely too much for her to do. We arrived there with a decent amount of outside tables due to the pandemic. There was no one there to greet us, so we just sat ourselves. It took about 15 minutes for a waitress to appear. She was the only one working it seemed like at that time. We decided to get coffee, and it came out quick. I ordered the stuffed French toast with a side of sausage. The French toast was really good.
