Spent $70+ here on two meals and a margarita. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive, but thats the only positive thing I'm able to say about this place. The restaurant area upstairs is deafeningly loud, between all the people crammed in there and the awful music they were playing. We had a margarita bowl for the table - it was $25, and was mostly just ice. The food is an all-you-can-eat hibachi style buffet, where you bring your ingredients to the grill and they cook it in front of you and dozens of other people on one giant grill. They used the same turners on every meal, and the ingredients from the meals next to each other would inevitably get mixed in together. I ate one bowl, and got a second one, but it had beef from another person's meal in it, so I didn't even touch it. I imagine this place is pretty unsafe for anyone with severe food allergies. The most unsettling part of my visit was the plain clothes security guard pacing around the restaurant in circles, with a revolver strapped to his hip. There were children here, and this rent-a-cop looked like he was ready to pop off just for looking at him the wrong way. I understand there were a lot of people there heavily drinking, but if you're really concerned about the safety of your customers, just hire a bouncer and lose the wannabe Dirty Harry. If you're looking for a fun place to have a birthday party and don't care much about the quality of your food, I'm sure this place would be fine, but there are probably cheaper, more sanitary options as well. And if you're looking for a place with a nice atmosphere, decent food, reasonable prices, good music, or any sort of enjoyable, redeeming qualities, you can try literally anywhere else in Boston. read more

We were excited to try this place as an opportunity for a more interactive dinner experience. It was nice but we found it to be really loud, long lines and confusing when trying to pull our food options together. We also struggled to get adequate server attention - refresh drinks, pay the bill, etc. Its a different alternative but realize you're giving up some of the niceties that you may expect when going out. read more

I had to give it three stars because of value: price ratio, BUT if you come on college night it would be between 4 and 5 stars. The music is terrible top 40's hits and the lines to fill up the bowls are completely disorganized. Maybe being from Detroit, I'm used to Detroit prices, but $22 plus tax/tip for frozen food thrown together on a grill isn't my cup of tea. That being said, there is a very nice selection of meats to put in the bowls and the salmon was phenomenal. If you come on Monday on college night, it would be an amazing deal for the money and I highly recommend coming then, but wouldn't pay full price. If you're really starving and you value quantity over quality, I can justify going here, but if you're like me and get full after a bowl and a half, I can't justify it at the full price. read more

I have to give this guys a 5* ! First, the concept there is amazing ! You go with a bowl and pick up any combination of food/spice you want out of maaany options like, fruits, salad, sides, meat, fish, chicken, pasta and many others, then chose some dressings and take all that to a giant and exciting round grill. There the cookers (Many Brazilians btw haha) get your bowl and cook all the things together for about 5 to 10 minutes finally giving back to you, all mixed up in the same bowl. For creative people with some peculiar taste for food combination (like me) this is the paradise ! The only negative point is that you may have to wait for like 15 minutes in the round grill table until they pick up your bowl. But anyway, this is not a place for you to go for a fast meal, the atmosphere is lively and really make the waiting time a great moment to chat and have fun. Amazing restaurant with a fun atmosphere. One of the chefs a bigger Spanish fellow(Seems to be the head chef) makes sure people have fun, I tip 20$ every time I go. The downsides- Tuesdays are college nights, and they are packed for it. Enough so that we never really see our waitress. Weekends are worse. Went there and 2 of the times our experience was terrible. We went for my Girlfriends 21st birthday. We sat down and immediately ordered the biggest alcoholic beverage they had(Fire and Ice bowl), the waitress's knowledge of the drink was terrible, we asked if it had coconut and she had no idea. she went to check with the bartender and took 15-20 minutes to come back. I work in the food service industry and know everything about our menu, i make it a point as a server to know. we saw our waitress maybe once the whole 2 hours we were there. A manager had to get us more drinks. and when we are about to leave our server shows up and asks us how everything is.... we left a 1$ tip for her and she gave us a dirty look as we left. Tips are earned. And she didnt earn that 1$. The only reason I am giving this a 3*is cuz of the chefs and food. I will return in hopes of better service. read more

Wow! What an amazing, fun, and yummy restaurant to visit with a friend or a group of people. The service was impeccable, especially the man behind the grill. We were very pleased with the overall experience. The only thing that I wasn't extremely pleased with was the sanitation of the buffet but there's not much they can do about it. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. Wandered around trying to figure out what to make...I could do that at home. Wish they gave sample "recipes". By the time I figured it out, most of my party was well into the cooking process. I wound up standing alone across the circle waiting for my cook time. Well thats not fun. But, the food that was out at 4pm left a lot to be deisred. The lettuce was the bagged variety and it was all brown. Alright, so go with the chinese stir fry. Pick out some nice fresh veggies and skirt steak. They cooked the food to death. You could not tell what was what aftewards. You know, I give these chains a chance each time I try one. Got a bad feeling when i walked in the door of this place, had a chuckie cheese vibe, with a bunch of kids running around screaming. Hostess had a little attitude, waited about 10 min to be seated. Walked upstairs and was seated in a booth. Got up to go to the salad bar, it was sub par. Out of salad dressing. There was raw meat sitting on ice, not in it, on it. One of the chefs was rude to someone in my group. The rest of my group ordered the philly cheesesteak sliders and the egg rolls. When the appetizers came the sliders were cold in the middle and the egg rolls tasted like melted plastic. Called the manager over to tell him about the food, had him taste a eggroll and he spit it up. Then he offered us free ice cream. Went to fire and ice last night for dinner for the first time. It was quite a disappointment. First of all - we had a reservation and we ended up not getting seated for 20 min. Once upstairs, we were seated in a strange alcove with a party of 8 and it was so tight and hot (the restaurant is very hot due to the open grill in the middle and it has ZERO fans or circulation for air- it was about 82 degrees in there) that we asked to be moved-which the server did begrudgingly. The decor is very outdated with bathrooms that are filthy, and the staff cooking literally yell and fight with each other over the grill (not playfully) which definitely makes it awkward and unenjoyable. Not to mention- the other people are all hangry because they are waiting in line to Put their food on the grill. Lastly the food was mediocre and really wasn't cooked thoroughly on the grill. So I had pink chicken and my kids had raw beef sitting in their burgers. And you walk away from the stations with raw chicken and meat juices on your hands and have to stop in the middle to wash them all the time. Just gross! Don't plan to go back to this place. Just don't bother and save yourself the 30 bucks a person. read more

I've been here for the lunch and it's pretty sweet for AYCE for ten bucks. But their Happy Hour is terrible. The dishes are dirty, there seems to be a bug infestation, and just pass on 3 dollar beer. I love my cheap beer but spring for the 5 dollar beer instead. Or take your hard earned 10 dollars (it is really cheap to get two beers and an entree) upstairs for a real dinner. We got frozen ones which don't even taste like Shirley temples never once did we ask for for frozen. When the waiter was asked why it came like that he said that's how they came. When I asked him because I was in the bathroom before he said oh I thought u enjoy it well the kids already drank it. This place was just way too nuts - in so many ways. Holy crap. My boyfriend and I walked in on a Saturday at around 6:30 - 7 pm and were seated right away. The waitress was new but very pleasant and attentive. The lovely experience pretty much ended there. Ohmygod. BACTERIA CITY, PEOPLE. I ordered a large alcoholic beverage because I couldn't handle my life for the 2 hours I was here. SO much raw meat, in little bowls, with dozens of assholes handling it with plastic tongs like morons. There must be SO much contamination and bacteria in that food bar area. I understand the concept, but applied in real life it is a nightmare to behold. The grill is a big headache. Nice concept, poor execution. Way too many people trying to get their food cooked at once. I was watching the grill and almost everything was overcooked or burnt. Obviously calamari needs less grill time than steak.. basic grilling rules don't seem to apply at Fire & Ice. The demographic here also sucks and I know it's not the restaurant's fault but for this reason, I would never recommend this place to anyone without warning. 80% of the patrons are LOUD, ditzy tiara-wearing birthday chicks. The other 20% are people on awkward dates (awkward because you can't possibly have a conversation in here because of the loud music) and a family or two. Pretty good stir fry, but TERRIBLE service. Waitress asked us if we had ever been there, we all said no and asked her to explain how everything works. She proceeds to tell us to add all our ingredients to the bowl, and bring it to the counter. She SPECIFICALLY told us to add all ingredients including sauce. After doing so, the stir fry chef told us we weren't supposed to add sauce, and now our dishes would have to be cooked in back. Fine not a huge deal, we don't get to experience watching our food cooked at the bar, but really this could have been avoided if we were told WHEN WE ASKED FOR INSTRUCTIONS, or if there was any sign or marking telling us not to add sauce. Finally our plates are done, and on the tickets with the table number we were named "Mastermind" and "Dumbo." I understand it's a joke, but honestly after specifically asking for instructions I was pretty pissed to be insulted. I was part of a large group and NOT ONCE IN THREE HOURS did the waitress stop by our table to refill drinks, and it took almost an hour to get our check. Our bill had drinks we didn't receive since they were out of the ingredients, and a 18% tip was automatically added to the bill despite the terrible service we received. I have never written a review on Yelp before, but Fire and Ice was just too bad to let slide. This place sucked and I will never eat there again. read more

Fire and Ice is pretty well known, and kind of a fun touristy restaurant chain. They have several locations including Providence, Cambridge, and more distant locations. I've been to Fire and Ice several times over the years with dates, girlfriends, and groups of friends. Although it may be considered overrated by some, it is still one of my favorite restaurants and I'm pretty much always open to going for the frugal Lunch Special at the grill. The fact that I've been there many times with friends and lady friends says a lot, seeing as how I'm an infamously cheap son of a gun. Overall it's a fun, casual, and unique place to at least check out. On a busy night you'll probably need to make a reservation or end up waiting in line a good while. The service and bar are pretty average for a Boston restaurant, and the servers are maybe even less than mediocre because most of the restaurant is about serving yourself and creating your own delicious feast to put on the grill and have cooked by their chefs. So you get seated, order your drinks and maybe an appetizer, get your free chips and salsa (I'm a big fan of this freebie), and then your best bet is to order a plate of whatever you want from the grill. Go up and choose from a wide variety of great fresh staples like noodles, veggies, garnishes, toppings, meats, burgers, stir fries, cheeses, pasta, salad, etc. There are also plenty of interesting options that you normally couldn't get for an affordable $15 plate like shark meet, squid, octopus, and other delicacies. You grab one of many types of sauces, line up at the grill, and have the grill chef cook it as desired with the sauce you want. The cook's sometimes get busy but do their best to be efficient and entertaining. To get the most out of this place, you have to go up and get more plates full of food again if you want to get your money's worth like me. This may or may not impress your significant other, probably not. But don't let them hold you back haha. Get those second helpings!! So I understand that there can be some waits getting in, placing your drink / appetizer / dessert orders, or at the grill. I also understand that a lot of people don't want to pay to go out and make their own meals. That's all well and good and I certainly wouldn't go to this restaurant every day or anything like that. However, I do think it is a fun place to go to bring your appetite and try out some good new foods at a reasonable price. If you are just going to want a salad, a classy atmosphere, a purely relaxing time, or a good wine selection then you should probably look elsewhere. But I'm not that kind of guy so I like it. I have been here several times and been underwhelmed each time. I guess I just don't enjoy this type of restaurant. It was pretty expensive unless you eat a lot, which I can but just wouldn't want to of this stuff. There is a big buffet and variety of veggies, protein, sauces, noodles, etc. that you try to cram into this bowl. It kind of bothers me in terms of cleanliness because you know everyone doesn't always use the utensils. So you basically walk over to the ingredients and pick them, walk over to stand in line until a chef is available, then watch them cook it, and then walk back to your table. Everyone is always getting up and sitting back down at intervals, which makes it hard to have a conversation. Plus, you either have to take your purse with you or have someone stay at the table. The food isn't unique or special but it is customized since you pick everything. I don't think it is that hard for them to just throw it on a big flat top grill and heat it up either. Like I said, I am not a fan of these places but it can be fun for some people! read more

The Cambridge location blows this one away. I stopped in last week to have a quick drink with a friend and sat downstairs. Big mistake- the tables were sticky so I tried to clean them off, no one who worked there knew where the spray bottles were. I went to the bar and asked for a drink. I was told a cocktail waitress would be right with me. I waited for over 15 min before we got frustrated and walked out. The kicker is the bartender must have walked by us at least 3 times, looked @ our drink-less tables, and kept on going. I checked my breath, nope. I plastered a smile on my face, nope it wasn't me... If we hadn't been the only people sitting there I would have been a bit more patient, but we were outnumbered by staff two to one! read more

Just awful, start to finish. Hostess didn't acknowledge our presence, even though we stood right in front of her for a couple of minutes. We eventually were told to go upstairs. Wait staff was slow and indifferent, in a dining area which could only be described as Chucky Cheeses meets a Chinese buffet. Many children, running around, I eventually got a warm beer and sent it back. Cooks seemed to be more concerned with looking cool with spatulas, than customer service. I made a reservation at this Fire & Ice a week in advance for a party of 14. I received a call from the manager requesting for us to push our reservation back. We were okay with it. I had followed up throughout the week to make sure our dinner was confirmed for Saturday Night. Upon arriving at fire and ice they did not have our reservation on the books! And said this happens all the time (which I find hard to believe).To prove that I had prior phone calls with the restaurant I showed them my call log of INCOMING calls from them. Regardless, they did nothing for us and was NOT apologetic what so ever. After 45 minutes we compromised with management and sat DOWNSTAIRS upon agreement that we would have a waiter. Our waiter JOSEPH G was TERRIBLE! He would make rude comments to us and basically refuse to serve us the whole time! It got to the point where 2 managers had to tell him we were waiting for him. He said, "Yeah I know" but still took his time to get to us. He worked behind the bar which our table was located right infront of so we could see him clearly the whole time. We noticed after managers said that he took the time to converse with colleagues before coming over. The female assistant manager was also not friendly and was giving us a hard time. Everyone in our party made a comment about how she was rude the whole time and was not even trying to help make the situation any better. Management continued to give us a hard time by making us each have our own bar tab. Instead of putting it all on one bill. Not only that they had management FOLLOW US throughout the night. From our table, to picking out food, to the grill station which i thought was a little ridiculous. When it came time to paying for the bill we request Joseph G to take off the gratuity since we wanted to leave cash. He agreed. But then on the bill it shows that he STILL INCLUDED gratuity for himself ON TOP of the cash we left on the table!!!!!!!!!!! VERY POOR SERVICE! I RECOMMEND EVERYONE TO DOUBLE CHECK THEIR BILL IF THEY CHOOSE TO GO HERE. But overall, I recommend to not come here at all. read more

Went back at 7:15, but they're so busy they said we'll have to wait. They'll call my phone when they can seat us. We went back to talk to them again at 8:00. Was getting frustrated at this point. Service is a joke. I called around 9pm to ask about their take out option. The guy says its around $10 to fill up a bowl to go anytime. I walk over and the female host/manager with braids gives me a stupid look and goes "no we dont do that" Even after i explained how I just called. THEN she says I must be wrong because shes the only one answering phones. So i said whoops must have called the wrong place (I know i didnt). I show her the number and asked if that was the correct number. "I dont know" she says. I say "ok ill just call it" sure enough, the phone in front of her rings. So i guess im not crazy.. so instead of apologizing for not only lying but looking like an idiot, she refuses to honor what I was told. seriously, flashbacks of my college dining hall experience -- except now i'm paying $16.95 for it. if you are the kind of person that has food allergies, bringing your epi pen is a must! all the food is cooked on the same grill and is often mixed with the same utensils. sometimes you even discover a mysterious somethin' somethin' from someone else's dinner has accidentally been your dumped onto your dish. i'm allergic to fish and apparently some fish contamination happened to my food while on the grill because after i ate my meal, my upper lip swelled up. the environment is also very college-y with tons of undergrads. overall the food is really eh. neither here nor there, good nor bad although the service is el terrible; we had to chase down our waiter whenever we wanted more soda or water. i saw a fondue dessert on the menu that looked somewhat appetizing but i doubt i'll be back to try it. sanks but no sanks! read more

I have been to Fire and Ice 4 times, at 3 separate locations. The first was by my choosing; and for each subsequent visit, I was more reluctant than the time before. The gimmick is ok, you can read other reviews to learn about that. Sanitation, that may be another issue. Food allergies? I wouldn't even go here if I was allergic to cats. However, the thing that appalls me most about Fire and Ice is the low quality of the ingredients. The way they offer so many choices is by supplying the lowest quality ingredients available: If you like frozen blocks of low end factory produced chicken and beef, poor quality produce, taste-free shrimp from southeast Asia, frozen "Atlantic" Salmon farm raised on the Pacific coast of South America and all the college-cafeteria-salad-bar toppings you could ever want, then this is the place for you! Save your money, go to Applebees and get a much higher quality meal. read more

I do NOT recommend this place at all. The food was terrible! So basically, you serve your own food and take your under-cooked meal to the cooks. Then they will "cook" the food in front of you. There are a variety of foods to choose from. Different foods that should be cooked differently. You can't just take some noodles and some other meats and slap it on a grill. Not every food should be thrown on a grill. My meal consisted of fried rice and shrimp. I thought to myself "they can't possibly screw this up." Surprise, surprise... I was wrong. They were just flipping my rice and shrimp. Next thing you know I have a mixture of burnt and raw rice. Some parts of the rice was gooey and some was just burnt. One side of my shrimp was under-cooked and the other side was burnt. It did not taste good what so ever. It tasted very salty/sweet and it made me a little nauseous. Most of my friends disliked their food also. Two of my friends had pasta, and both of their meals were burnt. One of my friends described their pasta as crunchy. Would you really want to have crunchy pasta? I think not. It was very disgusting. I don't have a problem with the customer service. The people were very nice and just your average waitresses/waiters. But overall I do not think this place is worth dining at. The food is simply trash and just not edible. It's a waste of money. I question wheather they even wash their meat correctly or not. Outside of the poor service by the hostess we enjoyed our time. The food was good, the cooks were friendly and jovial. Really disappointing. The place felt dirty to me and all i wanted was chips & guac and chicken fingers. The chips, although you are given a mass amount of them are burnt and tasteless. The chicken fingers were more like fried clam strip size and overcooked to the point of leather. I sent them back and wasn't charged. But really, if you can't handle a simple dish like chicken fingers and chips please just close the place down. Or at least take them off the menu!
