What a great brewery! We stopped in after the Home and Garden show last month and had a great time! The variety of beers available was great, my only knock was I would've loved more than one sour! We did a couple drinks and then a flight. Great atmosphere, great decorations, and great philanthropy too! We will for sure be back. Using our pub pass, we headed to Finnegans. I had a Russian Imperial stout. So good. We needed a snack and food is provided by Tavola. There was a Tavola employee going around in Finnegans taking orders. The menu is fairly small but we opted for a pepperoni pizza and it was excellent. The extra bonus is they were doing a special Broadway singing event. Anyone was invited to sing any Broadway song. Whether you had actually sung on stage or not, the audience was welcoming and appreciative. The electric piano player was outstanding. I can't imagine playing for any song someone might request. The singers were amazing. They were animated and exited to perform. What a great idea to bring people that may not have a chance to perform with a pandemic to entertain so many enthusiastic fans. Another great brewery in the North Loop! I absolutely love the Little Stout on the Prairie. So creamy and smooth and goes down easy! There's paid street parking and an outdoor patio out back. The woman who helped us was friendly and helpful in her recs. We were hoping to grab a late lunch too but the next door restaurant doesn't open until 4 pm. Great music, friendly service, and craft beers & seltzers? What could be better? Throw in some very interesting local made pretzels and a fun taproom, and you get the idea. We stopped in on a very warm afternoon to take a load off and hydrate, and Maggie was on the spot in promptly serving us tasty Blood Orange pils and refreshing fruit punch hard seltzer. And because you need something salty after a long walk through downtown, they had the Firestick cayenne pretzels in four different flavors (we went white cheddar and smoked queso: delicious). When we learned that Finnegans is female owned and an organization dedicated to giving back, our affection for the place grew even more. Not bad, but nothing special. The non-flagship are better for my money. Had the Cluster Truck and Tipped Cow. Not exactly traditional Irish. Finished with the Biere De Mars. That was the best of the bunch. They have cornhole outback. Also, huge outdoors tent today for the holiday. Did I mention all profits at this place go to charity? Happy St Patrick's Day to us Minneapolitans! We've lucked out because Finnegans Brew Co. is opening in downtown Minneapolis! It doesn't officially open until 3/30 but they had a soft launch today so went to check it out. They had lines out the door, a packed taproom & surprised customers with a bagpipe band procession and Irish dancers! THE AMBIANCE The chandeliers and high ceilings give this place an elevated brewery feel. It fits in with the downtown upscale bar scene but also has a tent, bag-toss & food truck in the back. It is a mishmash of an Irish pub & hipster modern. THE BEER It was busy, but we didn't have to wait too long for an attentive bartender. I tried the Tipped Cow, a farmhouse saison, which was ok. I liked the Dead Irish Poet better (yes I know that sounds weird). It's their stout and was nice & smooth. The only reason I couldn't give this place 5 stars yet is that I only tried a couple beers and I some areas weren't open since this was only their soft launch. They had a glass window so you could see another room with foosball and a stairway going somewhere mysterious. I love that they are a social enterprise though and give 100% of their profits to charity. What more reason do you need to support this new Minneapolis brewery? Jake was our bartender and he was great. Super nice, patient, and friendly. We all got flights. I'm not a big beer drinker so I asked him to give me the darker beers that he felt represented the brewery best. His selections were flavorful and distinct. The flight was $12. I love Finnegans Beer and have been drinking it for a long time when out and about because I love that some of the proceeds go to help humanity. I am not the biggest fan of large commercial touristy feeling businesses. It was loud, very large, and hard to get service here. I did not care for the type of crowd it brings as lots of folks that are trying to be too cool for school. It is much like Surly and you either really love it or nah. read more

What can I say? The best taproom in the world and all the profits go to the food self. Since the new brewery opened , they have had a lot more beers on tap. My favorite place to go. Gotta say this place is cool.!!! Dark interior but classy and casual, all the beer's brewed in-house. Great service at the bar too! I came here for happy hour today and the setup is just exquisite. Finished dark all-wood bar tables, super classy. This place also has a gorgeous wide-open patio outside with picnic table seating and also some lawn chair-esque seating. Nice overall outdoor furniture and layout. They also call in a food truck to provide food sales (they only serve beer) which is COOL.! The bar tenders even come out to you in the patio while you lounge around and serve you. Super casual do-your-own-thing kind of place so I was a bit surprised. This place is AWESOME!! I'm so happy I finally had a chance to check it out! Super cool space and stellar selection of beers! It was nice how they separated what is only available in the tap room versus what is available on the shelves at local liquor stores. Service was good and if I lived downtown I would visit it more often. I chose the barrel aged saison.Thankfully I went when there was lots of snow and not a lot of people out so it was easy to find street parking. We attended a retirement party here and really enjoyed the place. It was a wonderful evening so the party was on the patio. There are games available for adults and children. My husband enjoyed the Oktoberfest Beer. They had sodas available and a small food menu. There were water coolers available for anyone wishing to have some. Have to be honest: I expected an intense and slightly smarmy Irish pub setting, but Finnegans exceeded expectations. The space feels more like a spacious cocktail lounge with big booths and overstuffed chairs. There's also an outdoor patio space which hosts farmers markets and food trucks. I'm curious to see the top floors of the building, which I think are event spaces that are also used for the company's nonprofit model of community involvement. The staff were friendlier than most, letting me and two friends try samples of a few different styles. Later, after talking about the playlist, then the weather, then astronomy, then environmentally sound construction, a few of the staff members brought us into the brewery floor and storage area to show us the stacks of aging barrels that will be released later this year (fall, darkest day of the year, etc.). The beer: I anticipated a few heavy, generic Irish ambers and porters and stouts, but I was once again happily surprised to see a variety of styles, and even four IPAs that each carried distinct flavor profiles. I was most impressed with the Double Wouble grapefruity double IPA that maintains citrus notes with slight hazy creaminess, but didn't get too sweet or syrupy like most double IPAs. The Cluster Truck IPA was refreshing, juicy, and enjoyable as well. read more

Stopped in with a group of 8 before a concert at the Armory. Great location and very spacious. Only a few other tables had people at them so we grabbed a raven with a bench( which are really high) we just kept grabbing drinks at the bar and we had great service. I am not a beer fanatic and tend to stick with the pale ales. I give the Buck O'Five which I give a 5/5 too. The rest of the group tried Hop Comb which they rated 4/5, Oktoberfest 3/5. They have food you can order from next door in which you go to a stand and order at an iPad they provide you a number and run it to you when it's done. I had the loaded tater tots ( all loaded inside) which were huge and the Diablo sauce that came with it had a great kick 4/5. Meh, not impressed. Nice space for sure but service is poor and to my taste none of the beers I tried were very good. It's a bit confusing here for a newcomer. Is there table service? Nope. But there was a guy at a host stand reading a book. You order beers at the bar. For food you go to the guy reading the book. Turns out the food is supplied from the restaurant next door. Food was good (pizza) but took a really long time. After we ordered we heard book guy discouraging others from ordering because the kitchen was backed up. For beers I tried the oakoberfest ( best if the three but not great) and the two pilsners which were far too bitter for a pilsner. Beer is subjective and based on reviews this place has its fans but it's not for me. read more

It's finally here! The long-awaited Finnegans taproom is open for business and I could not be happier! The taproom is beautifully designed and it's easy to see that there was a lot of attention to details. They have a lot of seating available - including a cozy couch - so it hasn't been a challenge to find a place to sit and enjoy a beer. But if it's patio season, that won't matter as much because you'll probably be hanging out on the patio anyway. Sometimes they have someone who comes out and offers to bring a beer to your table, but for the most part, I think you're supposed to order at the bar and wait for it there. The location is great because there isn't anything else like it in that area of downtown and it's very walkable from the light rail and a few bus stops. There isn't much bike parking out front yet, but I'm hoping more gets added when the hotel next door gets finished. read more

I will say that their beer is excellent, the ambience is nice, and the live music I've seen here is great. So why the two stars? Well, to me, customer service still matters. If I have one bad server I'd by no means slam an establishment for that, but my experience was a work up the a ladder for a simple $11 refund that was mistakenly charged on my card. An honest mistake. I informed Finnegan's 2 days after my visit that I had a pending charge even though I paid cash. They informed me that I wouldn't have to worry and that the pending charge would go away. Five days later it posted. Not a huge deal, it wasn't a lot of money, but that was the first lie. I attempted to reach out by phone (which doesn't work, leave a message and we will call you back, never). I emailed a manger who politely forwarded my email to two other managers who would resolve this issue immediately. A guy called and I told him the last few digits of my card for a reversal. Fast forward 10 days later and nothing. My awesome credit union even said that they'd file a fraudulent charge and reverse it themselves if needed. I said no, the business should follow through with their promise of a refund for their mistake. I emailed back with a polite email reminder and was ignored. A few days later I decided I'd stop by and say hello. Magically, a manger on duty reversed my card on the spot, and gave me a free beer. That manger on duty was the only genuine and great customer experience at Finnegan's. The other upper management was snooty and rude, over $11 that they mistakenly charged me. Ok let's get real for a second. Finnegan's original brew is no good. I get that. I respect the hesitation, then, to come to the namesake of this mediocre lager. BUT. This place actually rocks. They have really jazzy microbrews and they aren't afraid of taking risks, and it is CHEAP AS SHIT. Great happy hour. Cheap growlers on Mondays and Tuesdays. The servers all remind me of engineering students I knew in college. Take that as you will. The Dead Irish Poet so great, so I'd recommend that or a flight. Head over there kids. I did not know this place existed until I had a meeting in the same building. Pretty neat place that reminds me of a beer hall you could find over in Dublin. Dark, full of dark wood walls, and a mean collection of fresh beer. I only tried one sampler but all of the beers were pretty good. It can get hard in a time when Minneapolis/St. Paul boasts so many craft brews that you lose track of where the best beers are located and what sets so many apart. The 'Tom's Shoes of Beer' finally has a home, and you can bet your shamrocks it's one of the prettier places you'll tip a pint in the Twin Cities. I love what they did with the main bar. The wooden harps and backdrop of the taps give you that old pub feel, but the space is open with decent amount of seating. Might not be the best for larger groups (8+), but it's not cramped. Another plus is the location. I feel like there needs to be more restaurants/breweries on this end of downtown, so it's a great addition. Was a little bummed out the night I went in because Dead Irish Poet, their amazing stout, wasn't tapped. Oh well. We settled for the Irish Amber. Oh well. Drink beer, Feed the hungry. we have been to finnegans a few times because we live so close but every single time we walk in and realize we would have more fun at a funeral home. the atmosphere is absolutely terrible.. but if you are desperate to drink mediocre beer in a silent setting then this is your spot. it's a joke amongst our apartment building to that will go to finnegans if every single restaurant in minneapolis closes or burns to the ground. check out Fulton or Inbound instead. Or venture to to northeast to Indeed or Bauhaus for incredible atmosphere and WAY better beer. read more

Very cool new location for a pint in the metro! I'm excited to be moving into the apartments next door in a couple weeks so I went to try it out with some friends last night. Cool vibes and dark interior with plenty of various seating options. They had board games available to play, as well as fooseball - what's not to love? Great choice of beers, including a half dozen new ones that are brewed on premise. Prices are reasonable, perhaps the best value is the flight of four 5oz pours for $12. Food is not available on site, but they have partnered with ClusterTruck food delivery which offers a good range of reasonably priced options, especially if you go in with friends. They deliver curbside and were there within 35 minutes. The patio also looks awesome- it has just rained so we didn't sit outside but will be sure to next time. Staff are all friendly - willing to explain the beers and make recommendations. We will be back for sure!! read more
