This place = incredible. I'm not going to lie, I almost didn't come here because it's out-of-network with insurance (I'm sure some of you feel the same, which is why you're reading this) but let me tell you - go anyway. My coach has been recommending this place to me for a while and after this last injury, I decided it was time. Worth. It. Especially if you're a runner/athlete.
First of all, there's a dog! Need I say more?
But beyond that, every single interaction I have had here has been so positive, you truly feel like they care and you're not just being pumped through a PT factory. [I have a lot to say so I'm gonna break this review into sections.
Scheduling & Insurance:
I requested an appointment online and was reached out to almost immediately by Andre. He really took the time to make sure I understood what the out-of-network meant and even let me know if there might be any issues based on his experience with different insurance companies. He talked through it with me on the phone and sent me an email with the breakdown of the cost and what we spoke about. He was happy to explain everything so there were no surprises. I truly, truly appreciate the time, effort, and transparency with this interaction- as many places try to sugarcoat or don't go into detail, and this was not the case.
Every person at the front desk from check-in to check-out has been great, I usually see Jeff & Joe at the front when I'm in there and they are so friendly.
Physical Therapist:
I've been seeing Alison, who is also the clinical director, and she's amazing! She's very knowledgeable and takes the time to work with you, I always feel like she listens to what I say and I never feel rushed. Any time I mention anything, even in passing, she's always able to tell me why I'm feeling "this or that" or why certain injuries continue to happen. I know this is her job, but not everyone always is so detailed and it's interesting (for me, at least) to learn about how and why your body reacts a certain way.
She's also had a PT student working/training with her who was great! It's nice to see an environment that supports and trains students, and I still get the expertise of Alison as well as seeing her work with a future PT.
What I love:
They cater to runners and athletes. Anyone can go, of course, but if you're training for an event or just want someone who knows the importance of working out/training, then this is by far superior to a regular PT.
They also treat your body as a whole, not just as one injury. You may have a specific thing you came in for, but they will be sure to look at the underlying issue and how you can prevent future injuries.
From my first appointment, Alison immediately was able to tell me why I'm having continuous injuries, and after my initial injury is more stable we will get into more in terms of full body. We are working on my ankle, but we have constant conversations about my hips and compression in my lower back, even breathing - truly nothing is overlooked.
The appointment(s):
Your first appointment is a little longer since it's a "consultation" if you will.
They do a very thorough background and identify your current injury, previous injuries, and goals for treatment. There are lots of little exercises they have you to do to analyze your gait, mobility, etc. and then they come up with a game plan.
Each additional appointment usually starts (for me and my specific injury) with the obvious check-in "how's it feeling" then they will do some soft tissue work (read: mini massage) it's one of those "hurts so good" kinds of things. Then you immediately get to work and spend the rest of the 45-minute session doing strengthening and exercises. I love that they don't just hook you up to an electrical machine and spend 10 minutes doing basic exercises and you're done. Each week the exercises progress and you know what to work on between now and your next session.
Everything is very prompt - my sessions always begin and end right on time.
Covid measures:
Before each appt, they send a Covid survey & upon arrival, they do temperature checks (they've had me do a pulse ox also a few times). As soon as your temp is taken they have someone immediately escort you to your treatment room so there is no lingering in the front. I usually only see 1-2 other clients in at a time but the space is huge so you're never within 6 feet of anyone else. The staff is all wearing masks, and hand sanitizer is readily available.
Location:
FLPT is located in Flatiron, and the space is beautiful! It's a really large facility with high ceilings and a ton of windows. They have many treatment rooms, and it's all very spacious. They have anti-gravity treadmills, cryo, and infrared sauna (cryo I think is currently unavailable due to covid). Everything is very clean, the music is fun, and it never feels overcrowded.
I absolutely recommend Finish Line Physical Therapy to anyone and everyone, you will not be disappointed. read more
