Just like a family run gun store from back East . Only shop I use.. bought 3 weapons and all my ammo here. Good info also!

WARNING: Do not patronize this business. I apologize for the length, but the details matter. I am a new gun owner and completed all required safety exams and certifications without issue. On 11/24, I purchased a Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro from FF. I paid in full (cash) and paid the $35 background check fee. I was informed of the 10-day waiting period and had no concerns. After the 10 days, I returned to pick up the firearm and was told my background check was "delayed." I was informed the DOJ had up to 30 days to approve or deny. After the 30-day period passed with no update, I called the shop and was told nothing had changed. I later learned the shop had discretion at that point to either release or cancel the sale. On Jan 2, I went back in and was advised to rerun the background check, as employees claimed this had resolved similar issues for other customers. I paid another $35 and was told to wait an additional 10 days--after I had already waited over a month. This is where the 1-star review is earned (would be 0 if possible). On Jan 12, I returned and was told the status was still undetermined and that they would not deliver the firearm. I requested a refund and copies of all paperwork submitted to and received from the DOJ so I could contact them myself. The employee became frustrated and resisted providing documents I had signed and paid for. A manager was brought in and also made this unnecessarily difficult, despite having a copy machine behind the counter. When I finally reviewed the paperwork, it wasn't even my name on the documents. After nearly two months of waiting, this was unacceptable. Their staff clearly did not verify basic information. At that point, the owner appeared, spoke over me, called me rude, made inappropriate comments about my personal relationships, and initially ignored my refund request. He stated they do not give cash refunds and said a check would be issued "Friday or Monday." Given the administrative failures already demonstrated, I had little confidence this would happen promptly. After standing my ground, I was finally told a check would be ready on Wednesday, Jan 14. Check received. While the owner was less hostile during pickup, this is still not a business I will ever support. I strongly recommend FF review their internal processes, employee training, and the legal implications of mishandling firearm transactions and customer data. Their misinformation, poor customer service, and lack of accountability cost them multiple sales--not just mine. Based on my experience and the numerous similar complaints on this platform: do better. read more

If you're new into the scene, come here and ask all the questions you need. I knew what I wanted and the questions I needed. A lot of your friends will say " oh, should've gotten it online for cheaper ". I wanted my stuff brand new and already designed. The service is great - very knowledgeable employees. They even brought out their own personal setup for me to check out. Wait until you ask about the AR setup. Fine Firearms supposedly repaired my over/under Baretta shotgun. The first time they told me it was repaired, I took the gun to Yuma area for opening day dove season. I was stuck with an unrepaired single shot shotgun. When I got home I took the gun back to Fine Firearms. They blamed their gunsmith and told me he didn't work their anymore, and I had to pay an additional $75 for the new gunsmith. After this so called gun repair, I went to opening day dove season once again. Same thing. It was not fixed. If anyone is looking for a gun repair business, you should probably avoid Fine Firearms. read more

Renews my lost faith in customer service!! Had my heirloom Luger cleaned by someone, and toggle wouldn't work. Took to "Mischa" (sp) at Fine Firearms, and he said "It might be a quick fix." He stepped away and said, after a moment minor disassembly, "toggle just needed a resetting." I said "Great. How much?" He said "No charge." Met the owner, Jonathan, while asking for a verbal appraisal of an old, Spanish shotgun. He was kind, thorough and patient. Took a lot of time explaining that the gun was a copy of an English-made gun, but made in Spain. All the people in Fine Firearms were very nice, patient and knowledgeable. Decent selection, good brands, and friendly staff. Started off well got a good price on an item no one else had. I left the store and it was 5 stars in my head. They then called me back in and told me I had to pay another portion of the purchase because they didn't know I needed to. This place has an utter lack of knowledge in the laws governing firearms in California, if they told me they didn't know that'd be one thing but they let me leave and told me I needed to come back. Also, they told me they didn't know if they can sell me a different item, then went down the street and bought it there. Only time I've had this type of issue at any gun shop. I really wish it went well because I wanted to come back. If you want a basic item this is a good place but they cannot help you with anything further. read more

We are living in uncertain times. Now more than ever. People do crazy things under extreme circumstances; from rage, fear and/or panic. I am not advocating violence and if you know me. You know this to be true. Do you really want to be the guy who brings a knife to a gun fight though? Not me. So after careful consideration. I decided to purchase another firearm besides buying more ammo. I think it was about time I added another gun to the collection. So two weeks ago I went to Fine Firearms. Me as well as twenty other like minded people. Some buying a gun for the first time. Others, like me, adding to the home arsenal. No matter what experience you have in guns. The staff at Fine Firearms will get you through the whole process. They are professional, knowledgeable and very serious when it comes to buying or selling firearms. Just make sure you have all of your credentials- two forms of an official current picture ID and proof of residency. I used a passport and driver's license plus my car registration. To be safe. Bring it all when purchasing and picking up a firearm(s). Remember, it's a 10 day waiting period for pick up on all gun purchases. You just can't buy and take it home the same day. It's standard when buying a firearm in California. Not sure how other states work but this part is admittedly annoying; but understandable. As far as gun selection and accessories. If it's legal to sell. They have it all. With weekly restocking of the shelves. If the don't have it at the time. They will the next time around because they are always ordering to fill the demand. With the long lines. Buying a gun took a long time. It took me three hours to buy a gun. After buying the gun. It took me another 14 days to pick up; not the original 10 days by law. The reason is because they were swamped with business. They ended up setting up appointments for gun pick up only. No more new gun purchases for the moment. That's how crazy business has been for them. Overall a decent gun shop. Professional, knowledgeable and serious when it comes to anything related to guns. Location and parking is very easy to find. I was hoping to get John but was really pleased and happy I got with Nick. Very knowledgeable, had a sense of humor and truly wanted me to understand what I decided to go with and get paperwork in order. Nick also did a good job of answering dumb questions without making you feel dumb which is a talent on it's own when you meet so many new people as I'm sure he does. The place takes covid seriously, plenty of hand sanitizer, complimentary gloves to use and while no one likes waiting in a line, they handle it really well. Better than most other places for sure. Did a DROS here about 8 years ago and happened to be in the area for brunch this morning with a friend, so we decided to stop by and check out the selection. We were walking down the row of glass cases and asked a young man about which guns in the cases were consignment if any. My friend was asking because he saw a G19X and I saw a Sig P228 which had a yellow tag which is what denoted a used, or consignment gun. Instead of answering the question of which guns if any were consignment, the kid let out a haughty smirk followed by a "Yeah, you can't touch those." I'm sure being presumptuous that neither one of us is LE. The unprofessional response without asking any further clarifying questions about the customer was enough to turn us both off, so we left. read more

When I'm in the area I like to come and check this place out because it's always nice to talk with other gun nuts. The customer service is always great when I come in which is nice because not all gun stores are so nice and helpful. This is not a big fancy place like Turners but you get the personal customer service without feeling rushed. They have several rifles a few Glocks and quite a few of 1911's. They have a lot of ammo but the prices are a little high but that's to be expected because they are a mom and pop operation. It seems like I can never find 7.62x39 but that's ok I understand it's not that popular. They also have a bunch of shooting acessories from ammo cans to eyes and ears. There is also a table in the far right of the store where you can find some deals. Sometimes I like to come by and just listen to these guys talk about guns, the best shooting range, ammo, the gun show and other gun businesses. I like this spot because they're helpful, they take their time with you and they don't judge. I've bought here, and have always found'em to be patient and knowledgeable. My gripe is with their failure to embrace technology. Specifically, this review is from the CV19 period. I went to the store, based upon the hours stated on their website, only to find that they were open, by appt ONLY! I was understandably miffed. This information could've been easily added to their website, which would've saved me from wasting my time, and avoided an unnecessary customer relations issue. I realize guns'r flyin off the shelves, in our current social/political climate, and I'm sure Fine Firearms will be just fine, in spite of my "meh" review, but, this was such an unnecessary issue, and it's unfortunate that it happened. They did not respond to my email, regarding the incident, nor have they updated their website, WEEKS later! Been in here a few times. Pretty good staff. Knowledge is good. Prices are fair. I just bought a new model shotgun that was less than Turners. I'm always a little pissed at the demonstration that is needed to prove that you know how to handle a firearm safely. I'm a former active duty Marine infantrymen and it's plain insulting. Anyway I'm aware that they are required to do it so I comply. Besides that, I'll keep going back. They are local so that's important to me. I've bought two firearms and they have done a transfer or two so I'm going back again. The negative reviews puzzled me a little. I guess anyone can have an off day. My experience in the past with gun shops in San Diego have been hit and miss. Some guys are just dicks no matter what. In my experience gun shops have had more than their fair share. That's it. I worked with a gentleman named Matt. As we know, the country has more than its share of crazies these days and I wanted home protection like anyone else. I perused the handguns, saw a Glock 26 pistol and I had to have it. It called me, lol. Matt was polite, patient and considerate, took his time with me and knew his business. He patiently walked me through the process and gave me a lot of tips about safety and ownership. The paperwork takes quite a while, but it wasn't a cringe experience because it went smoothly. I've been to this firearms store several times, and on my latest trip, a friend took delivery of a new Glock. I was very impressed by the time taken by the sales rep to explain the features of this pistol. He explained the basics about firearms safety, then the specifics about this Glock. He demonstrated how to break it down for cleaning and of course, reassembly. He further demonstrated how to use the cable safety that was included with the firearm. He then added some useful information about the current draconian laws in California related to transporting firearms. My friend and I then went to a range and tried out the pistol. Very nice, easy to point and very visible sights, even when using a marginally lighted range. The store has several glass cases, with the usual "Do Not Lean" warnings. The cases are literally jammed with pistols and revolvers of many makes and just about all calibers. If you are undecided about brand, and want to check the fit of a weapon in your hand, this is the place to visit. There are numerous rifles, scoped and not, on rifle stands throughout the store. This store sells many different calibers of ammunition, as well as the necessary eye and ear safety devices, as well as shooting gloves and all kinds of shooting sports paraphernalia and equipment. For those interested in a much quieter and far less regulated hobby, there is plenty of archery equipment here to peruse. Fine Firearms is very aptly named, and easy to find on La Mesa Blvd. It's definitely worth a visit. read more

I give them a zero. They know who I am. They are expecting this review. They went so far as to try to divert the issue by calling La Mesa Police on me! As a reward to myself after a year long battle with cancer, I wanted to buy an M1 Garand through the CMP. Fine Firearms said they would To the transfer for $75 plus DROS and State Tax. The Garand was delivered, I knew the arrival date from communications with the CMP. I arrived on that day to open the box. I had filled out all my info on the DROS form prior to ordering the rifle. When I finished looking at the gun, I asked if I needed todo any further paperwork, fingerprint, ect. I was told no, do that when I pick the rifle up. I return 11 days later to get the rifle. They can't find the rifle. They can't find the paperwork. 20 minutes later, they find the gun and paperwork. No DROS was started. I can not have my present. I complained. They asked me to describe the guy that took the gun in. I say whatever guy was working that day and signed for receiving the gun in shipment. They said 3 were working that day. I said blame all 3. I was told they would not charge me DROS or shipping fee. They started my DROS, I would have to wait another 10 days. I arrive 10 days later to get my get my rifle. They knew who I was. Their attitude was apparent. I was then told I was lucky and they would take off $25 in shipping fee. I objected and was told I had to talk to the manager, whom I then recognized as the inept person that originally too the rifle in. After waiting about a half an hour while this guy finished "helping" , advising, joking and just having a great time with a young blonde female customer, I could now get help. The guy was a jerk. Told me I was lucky they were taking off $25. Gave me the attitude that I better shut up or I wasn't gonna get my gun. After I left with my gun I went home and wrote a letter to the shop of my complaint. I received 2 phone calls (they will be entered as evidence) from the manager offering no resolution. The second call was his accusations of me vandalizing his business, car and home! I advised him he should call the police. This is far from over. I have been wronged, and, a gun transfer was loosely, maybe criminally handled. Customer service sucks. I filed complaints with the CMP, ATF, PD and City of La Mesa. As well, I will be filing an action against them in Small Claims Court. I believe any rating on here of more than 1 star were put on here by friends, family and employees of "not"Fine Firearms. read more

Came here to get new sites put on my glock. I called a head and they let me know if it is busy, plan to leave the gun for a day or two. Walked in and it was slow. They put my new sites on in less than 15 minutes and $35. It was a great experience. read more
