Well, at least we kept our word today when we ordered their two different bowls for takeout. My wife ordered the Fishbowl ($30) with the grilled fish of the day (salmon), cherry tomatoes, quinoa, feta, peaches, arugula, and basil lime vinaigrette (she said no to onions). She could not get over how tasty the quinoa tasted and wondered how they prepared it. She also thought the peaches could have been a little sweeter since we are in prime peach season. While the salmon was just slightly overcooked we'll attribute that to it continuing to cook as we drove the meals home. Even with those minor negatives, she said she would definitely order the dish again. I chose the Poke Bowl ($35) for my meal (my first ever poke bowl) with marinated raw tuna and salmon, edamame, cucumber, watermelon radish, snap peas, nori, avocado, sesame seeds, scallions, and pea tendrils, all over sushi rice with ginger gochugaru oil and soy sauce on the side. This was absolutely delicious. It was a wonderful blend of fresh flavors and textures. If I have another poke bowl somewhere else I only hope it can come close to measuring up to the enjoyment I experienced with this one.

I've been there before and the crazy, giant fiberglass crab on display in the entrance is always a hoot. So is the fiberglass shark head on the wall in the dining area. I like a place with a sense of fun and humor. I also like this place for its seafood boils. The good news is that this restaurant--which was very good to begin with-- has gotten even better. Last time I showed up, the server brought the seafood boil still in its boiling bag and cut it open in front of me. It was up to me to reach into the hot bag and pull out its contents. There was steam everywhere. A hot mess, indeed! This time, the kitchen took care of the boiling bag for me. Instead, they beautifully arranged the boiled seafood on a large platter. Wow. It looked amazing and tasted even better! This time, I'd asked for a Number 4 with mix of seasonings, including garlic and butter. There were: one big lobster tail, plenty of shrimp, clams, crawfish, potatoes, corn on the cob, hard boiled eggs and extra veggies. It was described as enough to feed three people. Coincidentally, we were a party of three. We also ordered a Cajun Fried Rice for good measure. We really didn't need it. We were so full. The fruit drinks were great, too. Union Seafood is a franchise with locations in Troy and Schenectady. They're owned by Larry Weng who also opened Ji Bei Chuan Rice Noodles & Ramen on Western Avenue in Guilderland, according to local news reports. In celebration of May being AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) Month, it's probably fair to say that Asian-American owned restaurants such as Union Seafood have added much variety to the overall dining experience in Capital Region. The former Eddie and Mario's in Clifton Park changed its name to Eddie F's a few weeks ago,…read moreaccording to staff. It joins the rest of the Eddie F's chain: The free-standing restaurant in Saratoga Springs and an eatery at the race track. I've yet to visit the Saratoga locations but I certainly enjoyed my meal in Clifton Park. The Eddie F's sign has been installed out front. The restaurant is cute and casual with a wonderful assortment of New England style seafood and sides. I ordered a blackened haddock sandwich, onion rings and coleslaw. It was really delicious. I was so happy that I wasn't limited to fish fry and that the blackened haddock came out of the kitchen just as quickly as my friend's fried fish fillet sandwich. I'm trying to eat healthier especially after my doctor recently assigned me a nutritionist so she expects to see results. On that note, Eddie F's New England style onion rings are almost guilt free. Our helpful server, Ashlynn, explained that these onion rings are not heavily breaded and battered like the traditional ones. I stuck some of them in my sandwich along with some coleslaw and went-to-town. I should mention the coleslaw is different, too. I asked,"Is there any mayonnaise ? I don't see or taste any." According to our server, Eddie F's coleslaw contains no mayo. There is vinegar and a bit of sugar which is great for me. Thanks, Eddie F's for offering great seafood dinners while helping me to navigate my new-and-improved eating habits.

I say all that because we live in Clifton Park and only just now got to this location for the first time even though we had been relatively regular customers of the former Harbor House. Apparently, 5:30PM on a Monday during Lent is a good time to dine here. We were the only customers when we walked in and only two other parties arrived by the time we left. With that said, service was friendly, prompt, and efficient. There were many different things I wanted to try, so the best option for me was the Captains Basket ($45). Initially, this seemed expensive to me. But when the meal was placed in front of me, two thoughts crossed my mind - am I going to try to eat all this? - and will I enjoy it? The answers were NO and YES, respectively. The Captains Basket contains haddock, scallops, shrimp, and Ipswich whole belly clams. The portions of each were very generous and I was able to include two sides. While I chose to have all my fish fried, I could have mixed and matched additional choices of grilled, blackened, or gluten free fried. The coating on the fried fish is light and not overly salty. All the fish varieties were perfectly cooked. The haddock was flakey, the shrimp had a slight crunch to their bite, the whole belly clams were soft and creamy, and the scallops were tender, sweet, and slightly springy. My side of onion rings were not greasy and very thinly sliced. I generally prefer a thicker sliced onion. The baked beans I ordered mostly for my wife's enjoyment, and while I thought the consistency was more fluid than what I expected, my wife said they reminded her of pork and beans. My wife's choice for dinner was the Fish N Chips ($19) - battered and fried with French fries and slaw. She had two good sized portions of haddock of equal quality to my haddock, and non-greasy fries that were crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, and still tasty when I tried them at room temperature. The slaw was average. A couple of large sodas ($3.50 each) rounded out our meal. Neither of us finished our meal and took some home to enjoy the next day - and we did! On our next trip, I plan to order less fish and save room for dessert since the choices sounded so good.
