We didn't eat in the restaurant part, but we did drink at the bar a few times. The bartenders were kind of detached. They didn't engage with the patrons. We did the beer testing which comes with the room for Marriott members. The guy gave us all four bears at once and explained them so quickly it was hard to figure out what he said. I only caught a few things because we had just visited one of the breweries the previous evening. It was like he did it because he had to. It was not a good beer tasting experience. The lady bartender acted like she did didn't want to be there. She didn't clean up the lighted bar after patrons left - so people sat down to a sticky bar. I stayed at the hotel for a conference and they were offering a $10 voucher at the restaurant. The first night I ordered the blackened fish tacos for $19.00 They came with fresh corn tortillas, flaky fish and a fresh pico de gallo. With a squeeze of lime these were tasty. The next time I tried the short rib tacos $19.00. They were very sweet and came with a pineapple salsa that made them even sweeter. I personally am not a fan of sweet tacos so these weren't my favorite, but they were beautifully presented and fresh. For my departure breakfast I got the full breakfast buffet. This was incredible. They had so many different options to choose from and had a fresh omelette bar. The breakfast buffet was pricey at $30 but the food was great and service was even better. read more

Had an anniversary staycation here at the Marriott Monterey and had a chance to enjoy the Breakfast buffet on both mornings. Due to my Bonvoy status, I was initially surprised that the hotel did not have a M Club Lounge but at check-in was given vouchers for a Continental breakfast located in the restaurant. To my surprise on our first morning it was a full on hot and cold breakfast with an omelette station. Fresh sliced fruits were very tasty. The breakfast experience was so much better than what the normal M Club provides. Service by both servers each day along with female manager and hostess matched the food experience. read more

I came here for dinner recently and it was delicious! I was with a large group and the space was great for us, as well as having our meals come out at a fair time frame. I opted for the Alaskan Halibut and it was so good! Really fresh and paired perfectly with the pasta. I chose wine to have with my meal, which was also good. They have a full bar. My only reason for giving 4 stars is that my drink order was taken and it took a very long time to get my wine, resulting in us having to ask about it again. It seems like it was forgotten about. It would be possible to visit Monterey and not have a bowl of clam chowder. It would also be possible to go to a ballgame and not have a hotdog and a beer. You could - but why would you? I can't claim to have tasted every cup or bowl of clam chowder available in Monterey. I'm a gourmand, not a glutton. I can say that the clam chowder we ate from this establishment is the bestwe've ever had. It is not too thick with flour, it has excellent flavor and taste, and I highly recommend it. "White" chowder is known as "Boston" ("Manhattan" being red - tomato based). After eating the wonderful clam chowder from Fin + Field I suggest that going forward we start calling it "Monterey Chowder." read more

We're currently staying at the Monterey Marriott, and decided to eat at the hotel restaurant for dinner last night. What a surprise it was! The maitre d' was a kind, sweet man who immediately sensed that our little one was on the spectrum. He gave our kiddo a dolphin plushy and some crayons, before seating us in the most amazing corner booth ever. Junior loved the lighting and the energy. Our server was equally nice. He grabbed us some piping hot chicken fingers and fries straightaway, so mom, big brother, and I could enjoy a little quiet time while we snacked on a delicious cheese plate appetizer. Big brother ordered the kids' burger sliders and thoroughly enjoyed them. Mom and I both ordered red meat entrees and were super happy with the results. I had the ribeye, and mama bear had the skirt steak. Both were absolute winners. Delicious, appropriate portions, and very much worth the money. We had a lovely time overall. A nice, long, happy, dinner, like we've come to expect whenever we visit Monterey. Fin and Field is a treasure, and we will definitely be adding it to our list of kid-friendly fine-dining experiences. 5 stars, all around! read more

Staying at the Marriott and after having unpleasant experiences at other restaurants during our stay, we decided to visit the restaurant in the hotel. The restaurant is kid friendly and the waiter and staff were so nice. When we walked in the staff at the counter gave my kids little sea animal plushies and gave them a kids menu with crayons. When we sat down the waiter was so friendly and got us a highchair right away. I got the salmon and it was great! The waiter kept coming around to check in with us. I would definitely recommend giving Fin + Field a try if you're staying at the Marriott or if you're just walking around old Monterey and want to have a nice dinner. read more

Came here for breakfast as my bf and I were staying at the Marriott. Breakfast is served from 6:30AM - 11 AM. I didn't get our waitress' name, but she was a friendly Filipina and deserves a 10. However, the food is a 2 at best. Breakfast is $30/person (excluding tax & tip). They have pastries, bacon, sausages, biscuits and gravy, corned beef hash, scrambled eggs, and an omelette bar. The lady working at the omelette bar had RBF. I ordered the Spanish omelette and wish I ordered just a simple omelette because it wasn't good. The breakfast hot food spread looked promising, but everything was cold. I barely ate ~1/4 of the food I grabbed which is a shame because I'm usually not one to waste food. Even if you had a free breakfast voucher, $6 as a tip (20% of $30) is simply not worth it, but that's just my opinion. If you're all about convenience, this place is for you, but I will not return. read more

When we got stuck in the rain during a recent visit to Monterey, we ran into this beautiful Marriott. Since I was waiting for my car to be repaired in a shop down the street, I was so grateful to find a dog-friendly hotel to stay warm. As we sat outside the Fin+ Field restaurant at some comfortable tables, a server and manager checked on us to see if we needed anything. Noting that we had our sleeping puppy, they brought out bones and water, and we ordered a small pizza and some drinks. The pizza and drinks were great, but our service from the staff here was amazing. The made sure to check on us often and were so friendly and helpful. I can't wait to come back to this lovely Marriott and have a relaxing meal here on our next trip to Monterey. read more

During our two night stay over the AT&T Pro Am golf tournament, we ate breakfast twice and dinner once. For an hotel, the food was excellent. The first night we sat at the bar and had beer on tap. Several different choices. Breakfast buffet included an omelet station. I ordered the egg white omelet with mushrooms and spinach. Yummy. On the second night we weren't very hungry as we ate to our stomach content at one of the hospitality tents at the golf tournament. Decided to eat light for dinner. Hubby and I each ordered our own clam chowder in a bread bowl, and shared the flatbread and the artichoke dip with chips. Too much food for us. We could have skipped the flatbread. If unsure of what to order for dinner - the clam chowder is a must. So many minced clams. For hotel food we were very surprised and happy. They've got a chef in the kitchen so it's not Aramark prepared. There's thought put into the food preparation. And decent menu choices and price. read more

We came here to eat when my husband was eating at the pasta dinner they held upstairs for the marathon runners for Big Sur. They had two pasta specials there and we decided to try the one with a white, pesto sauce. It was delicious. This is a really convenient spot if you're staying at the Marriott. I wouldn't come here otherwise. One of the highlights was definitely the hospitality. Our waiter was really sweet. I thought seafood would be a specialty considering their proximity to the ocean. The salmon was just okay. It was on the overcooked side and too tomato-y due to the sauce. In my opinion tomato sauce and salmon don't pair well together. Our group also ordered burgers and kids meal hot dogs. All were okay-ish. The lights were cute as a backdrop. Do not let how low key this place is throw you off. We were really tired and wanted to just stay in the hotel for a meal. It was the best one we had in all of Monterey. I don't suppose I've ever had a better beet salad... for realz. The menu description mentions apple butter, which I guess is what they used to glaze the beets. Whatever, all I know is it was utterly divine, a euphoric salivary explosion of glee in my mouth. The greens were run of the mill romain, or maybe green-leaf, and even almost wilted in that way lettuce gets when it has been inadvertently frozen in the fridge. But believe it or not, it detracted not a wit from my salad enjoyment. For the record, the walnuts and goat cheese added perfect flavor contrast to the sweet spiced beets. LOVED it. I also tried the clam chowder, which was very good, and the hummus, pita, etc plate, which didn't scrimp on the pita, nor the accompanying stuff. Sum total: perfect satisfaction for food flavor. The ambiance too was so classy, with a beautiful aesthetic and uber-comfortable seating. Truly, this place probably deserves five stars, and I won't argue against anyone that ranks them so, because I can't complain about the flavor. Buuuuuut... I'm not impressed with the prices or the overall menu variety, including the wine variety. The menu is limited, and there's no lunch/supper differentiation. My fairly small salad was $10 (another 4-6 to add protein), and a rather small cup of soup is $6. True, not an unexpected price point for the captive audience of a hotel lounge, but, well, I can't rank it evenly against my awesomely affordable favorites by giving it five stars too. read more

I was excited to try this place out because of the great reviews but the food ended up being just okay. I had a drink (a Watson-tini) while waiting for my room and it was delicious! So I decided to come back and eat dinner there. Around 5:45pm, I headed down and I was able to get a Field Mule on Happy Hour and I ordered the Torta Al Pastor with a side of clam chowder (weird combo but everyone on Yelp raved about the clam chowder). The food was out quickly and the Sharks game was on to pass time. My Mule was good, the Sharks were not. I decided to dig in and the clam chowder was piping hot which was awesome but the flavor just okay. They had a ton of clams which was fantastic but something was missing.. I took a bite of the torta and it was sadly lacking flavor. It was nice to get a bite of pineapple here and there for flavor but it was disappointing. Also the iceberg lettuce was strange inside of it (I would have done a shredded cabbage for a better flavor profile). I slapped some Cholula on it to try and save it and that really didn't work either. Oh well.. The drinks saved the day from 2 to 3 stars and I'd definitely come back for a Watson-tini. read more

Finally got to check out Marriott's replacement for Characters. Right off the bat I love the decor, it's beautiful and inviting. We sat at the bar, the chairs are so comfy I didn't feel like I was sitting on a bar stool. We just wanted some small bites so we ordered calamari and fries. You can tell everything is fresh. The calamari was fried and seasoned well, tender bites, not chewy or tough at all. Our server Erin was on top of everything, never had to ask for a refill and she was very attentive without being pushy. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu. read more

I like to explore my surroundings but tonight I opted to stay in the hotel. I was pleasantly greeted by Humberto and escorted to the bar as requested. Geli greeted me warmly as if our paths had crossed before. She quickly offered up a drink menu and made recommendations. Fidel, the manager approached to welcome me. I asked him for food recommendations. J told him I was craving a good cheeseburger. Not just good, but GOOOOOOD cheeseburger. The kind that gets all over your face and there's no shame because it's just that f'n good. Fidel lit up and asked if I preferred steak fries or thin cut. I said, bring me something that will change my life.... And he did. Best cheeseburger I've had in a long while. Seasoned perfectly. Thick and juicy but not greasy. He paired it with steak fries. It was a good thing I was sitting because my knees would have buckled. Perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside and thoughtfully sprinkled with salt. Yum! My mouth is watering all over again. By the way, the bun was slightly grilled with butter in the inside. It provided an additional sweet texture to every bite. It was a majestic cheeseburger. I highly recommend. Ambiance is great. I think I ate here probably 5 times this week and do so every year when I'm in town for a convention. I go other places too, but when you work a long day it's great that the hotel bar actually has good food. The servers are so nice and recognized us and stopped by to chat after day 1. Here's what I are/drank: -has them make me a few mock tails -one was similar to the Watsontini which was delicious -burrata bowl was fantastic-good size to share -beet salad also shareable. Had this twice it was so good. -bucatini pasta was ok. Large portion but I felt like it lacked a little flavor. -risotto was great! Huge, lots of seafood -baby gem salad was great, lots of blue cheese, definitely shareable, -has several desserts that were tasty although I can't recall which ones. -clam chowder is fantastic here. Stayed at the hotel for multiple days and had great food! The clam chowder is infinitely better than Fisherman's Wharf. Way more clams and was better seasoned. Also really enjoyed the bread bowl. I highly recommend skipping the clam chowder from the wharf and coming here. I also really enjoyed the French fries. Perfectly fried, not too oily or too salty. This place really takes care in food. We ordered multiple times and they always came out perfect. Extremely impressed with the food on the menu. Most hotels, unless you're staying at true 4 star hotel, have passable food.
