I have purchased several Filson items after discovering their store in San Francisco. I try my best to purchase products made in the US. Now not all of their products are manufactured in the US but many are. Everything I've purchased is meticulous constructed and holds up exactly the way you would expect. It's not inexpensive but it's a high quality product at a reasonable price. I've seen complaints about the service. I'm both their flagship and SF stores the services has been great, attentive but not intrusive. If you're in Seattle you should definitely stop by and support a a longer term local merchant. Unfortunately there's not too many of them left. I'll keep going back 2/13/2026. I just received my repaired waxed canvas jacket back. I have worn this coat for at least 7 years and have had two repairs done on it. They do a fantastic job and I could not be happier. The jacket shows every scar from my abuse but I continue to wax it 1-2x per year and it keeps going. If they still made this coat I'd buy another, until then I'll keep getting it repaired. Their clothes are worth every penny. I continue to shop with them and and am glad to spend my money with a company that appreciates their customers. read more

Toured Filson's flagship store and manufacturing. Funny enough, nobody else who signed up showed up. So I ended up getting a private one on one tour. Really interesting seeing how the clothing is made, hearing more about Filson's Seattle roots, and learning how they repair items sent back under their lifetime guarantee. Some of those jackets and pieces have been with families for years. The tour leader surprised me with a leather keychain. I was supposed to stamp a word into the leather myself, but I asked Leah and Ace from the retail store to choose the word for me and do the stamping instead. I'm curious if anyone can guess what word or phrase they chose for me. read more

It's my first time here!! This Filson store is located in downtown, so there was a security guard there on the first floor when I walked in (smart business decision). Once I got to the second floor, I was immediately greeted by a staff member. I was looking for a specific product, but they didn't have it. However, the alternative that was presented to me was even better! I hope to be able to use my new bag for at least the next 10 years (with the amount I paid). Beware there customer service is horrible. The products may be fine but be concerned your order may go astray and you won't get help from their customer service. I ordered a jacket for my son as a birthday gift. Last night UPS delivered to the wrong house. UPS directed me to Filson. Filson customer service told me they couldn't help me until they completed an investigation which will take two weeks. I now have no gift. Even if this is resolved in my favor, they probably will no longer even have the coat and size I need. I now see similar reviews on this site as well. read more

I didn't realize Filson was a local Seattle brand until I bought a nice quality Filson tote from Elliott Bay Book Co. The flagship store merch leans towards high-performance rugged men clothing, so there wasn't much for me here, but I appreciated the quality of the clothes - their jackets are quite heavy but sturdy and their wool sweaters feel nice! A little on the pricy side but you're paying for quality here. They have a repair station and a section of one-of-kind in-house made goods, like small wallets and aprons. There's also a neat section for Kraken fans. Employees were all nice and offered to help with questions. read more

We spent about $1,000 at Filson Seattle on July 19 and had most of it shipped. One hat we paid for was never included in the shipment, even though it's on our receipt. Despite multiple calls and emails over the past month, we've been repeatedly told it would be shipped, but it never arrives. Extremely disappointing and feels dishonest -- I would be very cautious about shopping here. I am giving them one extra star because the quality of their merchandise is good....if you get your order. Update: its August 27th. I have filed a complaint with a Better Business Bureau, reached out to their customer service multiple times, I have literally spent hours dealing with this trying to get this hat I paid for. I have reached out via Instagram. So far, no resolution. It has been 1.5 months of dealing with this now. Their customer service is not helpful. Each time I reach out to customer service they say they are escalating the issue and the hat will be shipped soon. It never is. Placed an order weeks ago. Filson charged my card but never shipped the order. They have not provided any reason. The order is just "pending". Filson customer service is a joke and does not respond. Now I have to report the charge as fraudulent to my bank to recover the money Filson basically stole from my account. Unbelievable that a company like Filson has become such a shady business. Horrible customer service. As a gift from my wife I received a Henley Guide sweater in XXL and only needed an XL. I contacted FILSON on 4 Dec 2025 and asked if I ordered the XL could I then simply send back the XXL. The original tags are on it and it has not been worn. The answer from FILSON Customers Service (An oxymoron) is that would only work if we (my wife) still has the store receipt. She purchased it in November and no longer has the receipt. So that's not an option apparently. Again, it hasn't been worn and the tags are still on it. But the FILSON Customer Service Rep indicated that original sales receipt was required. Went from 5-stars working its way down to 1-star over a 10 year period. There was a day long long time ago when you come to this iconic store there would be seamstresses sewing bags though the windows as you walked to the store upstairs. The sales staff stayed the same and remembered you from your last visit. The quality of the clothing was top notch at a higher prices, but was worth it because they lasted decades with a life time guarantee. Today, you come in and the staff is new every time you enter the store. Don't know when the winter cloths are arriving. You're asked if this is your first visit whilst you're wearing Filson tin pants and a flannel shirt they don't even recognize. You buy something and find they have a new point of sale system and you have to register as a new customer. My wife loved the women's double knee brown carpenter and buys them from eBay because Filson doesn't make these or women's pants anymore. Wish I would have read reviews before buying. First they charged me sales tax on a Jacket being shipped to a state that does not charge sales tax on clothing items. This has to be illegal and probably most people don't catch it, so seems to me like they are scamming by pocketing the $. Then it was delayed. I sent not one, but two emails telling them to cancel. Did they? No they sent it burdening me with a 15 mile trip to UPS to return and a 15 mile trip back. Thank you for remove that hour from my day. read more

We flew to Seattle during my kids Spring Break, of course had to stop into my favorite outfitters brand store. I have never been to a store all purchases were online for me. When we entered the store we were greeted my warm smiles and happy employees. Within a min or so the Manager Lo greeted us and gave my kids a quarter and a shinny penny for them to stamp in the back. She was kind enough to even give me one :) Hunter and Steven went above and beyond to ensure that I had a positive shopping experience. They setup a room for me and provide their feedback on how items looked on me and how they should fit. I never felt pressured to buy anything- they were available to answer all our questions. They made the kids feel welcomed and kept them entertained while I shopped. I bought lots of cool stuff and my kids now have some cool bags that will be passed down to them. I left the store Happy and confident with my purchases. In those couple of hours we were there the staff became true friends, and felt a little sad to have to say bye. We will def fly back from Cali to Seattle to visit our friends , forget friends our Filson family. Thanks again team for the time and effort in having have a great experience! read more

Wow! I have been a Filson customer for 30+ years and recently ordered a jacket and liner for my son's birthday. Nothing for 10 days, then an email "confirming" the order. A week later, another email stating the order cannot be fullfilled as the product was oversold. I respond to the email and say "don't ship the liner, since you cannot ship the jacket!" They ship the liner, which zips into the jacket I don't and will not receive. I call customer service. The woman in Mumbai or Manila is unintelligible. I email customer service asking if there is any way to get the jacket. They send me a return slip and tell me to return the liner. Nothing else. Just wow - how far they have sunk. read more

They sent me an email two weeks later to say shipment had been delayed. Well, da. So I called and canceled the order and asked for a refund. That didn't happen instead 8 days later they shipped the shirts. So I call again to say, what's going on, I canceled this order. They said they couldn't stop the shipment. So, I said well you'd better because I'm not taking responsibility for it. So, here we are over a month later, I have no shits and no refund. Had to file a dispute with my CC. Classic American workwear in a gorgeous building and space! I love to come here anytime I visit Seattle. Every time we visit there's a different popup in part of the shop. There's also a little sewing area where I believe they sew upcycled bags. I haven't seen that area in action but hopefully one of these days! While this brand was founded and originally made in USA- majority of the product is made out of the country now. As a clothing designer I understand this. Even iconic American brands like Levi's have been making everything out of the country for decades. With that being said the reason I love Filson so much is the traditional use of waxed canvas for rain repellency. Modern rain gear is made from plastic. And it's only made to last 7-8 years. Waxed canvas can be rewaxed! And can last several times that. Their fabrics are so nice and the cost is higher than some things. But justified for the classic fits and fabrics Filson produces. Everyone has always been so friendly and helpful on our visits. Even the security guard near the front door was so sweet! Also... nicest bathrooms I've been to in a while. read more

You can still get a quality item here that cannot be found anywhere else, but for garments you will have to play expensive roulette with their very creative sizing. If you want to take advantage of say, repair service, or ask a question, better crack a book. You will not be able to contact them. It is gross and sad what they have become, with the rich hipster pandering, but this is only the story of what any "American heritage" company has had to do to survive. Barely recommended. read more

Yeah, Filson is downsizing staff, raising prices, and--just today--they did not honor their guarantee on an item I returned. I suspect an M.B.A. knucklehead/wunderkind is handling operations. Fabulous. It was an anorak, and the fabric was a type of nylon and was supposed have some sort of wax? I took a chance anyway. Looked good, But the material tore and frayed. The Sri Lankan stitchers did fine, but the fabric was weak. Bad execution. They only sold it for about one season, and now I know why. I did get a response from customer service, and I was told that it would be repaired, which doesn't work with a wholesale fabric failure. I told them they could keep it. This same thing happened with Woolrich. Ah, I have one jacket that's almost ten years old, and it's fraying a little, but I love it. I've got couple of other jackets and a shirt, and they're probably good for a decade too. I might still buy their stuff, but my word-of-mouth enthusiasm has gone down. It's time to look at Duluth Pack, Empire Canvas (for when I move further north), and Fjallraven. There are options. I ordered two beautiful lined wool packer coats in size xxxl because individuals are saying their sizing is not accurate. Coats were way too big for me so I returned them without removing the tags on 11/29. Filson received both coats on 12/5 and have relisted them and they both sold within 24 hours. I am now fighting them for a refund. I spent $2k on both coats. I agree with others that their customer service is the worst and a joke. I pulled in BBB and my credit card company for help to get a refund. read more

I'm so done with Filson, I've had nothing but bad experiences from them on my last three purchases. I tried calling, emailed, to change an order for a different size, before they would ship the item, they never bothered to open emails, then when you call them they tell you they don't have enough help to look at emails??? They send the garment, which I now have to send back at their expense, but it will be a long process to get a refund, to then buy the bigger size. Not only does one have to wait for the item to go through the normal refund process, but there's no way for an exchange, you have to buy it again in a different size, pending your refund, how ridiculous is this. I'm in the middle of canceling another order, even though I emailed them three times to stop shipping, they will probably do the same thing, not open my emails, and ship it anyway. Which brings me to this store, I called trying to get some help, thinking that they would listen and try to help, but all I got was basically, we are just a store, you need to contact them on Monday, then gave me the same customer service number I already had. When I questioned their lack of representation for Filson, she said, I'm going to have to let you go, not our problem. Basically FILSON has died as a respected, top tier establishment, to another retailer who cares nothing about their customers, but they are still charging top dollar for goods that are mostly made overseas, not like in the old days. I'm writing this review based solely on the service I received and my first visit to the store; this review may change depending on product quality. I had never heard of Filson prior to stumbling upon this store. I was actually on my way to another business in the area and happened to park in front of their flagship store by coincidence. Seeing signs out front for outfitting, something told me to visit and I'm so happy I did. Immediately upon entering, you're greeted by their enormous manufacturing floor, where a selection of in-house goods are produced. Employees indicated to me that wool goods are primarily produced in-house, but other materials are usually either produced overseas or made in-house from imported materials. Upstairs, a restorations department sits just off the sales floor, where a several limited edition and one-off items are available. The environment is very relaxed, with multiple comfortable sitting spaces and very spacious fitting rooms. The price point is definitely higher but not by any means inaccessible, and a variety of small goods like wallets and keychains are no more expensive than they'd be at any souvenir shop. Either way, there is a huge selection of items to browse, and I believe just about anybody could find something nice. I'm an enormous person physically, and I was able to find several great jackets and shirts which fit perfectly, which is something very few modern stores can offer today. I was assisted by Jillian, who answered my questions seamlessly and really provided everything I needed to make my visit an excellent experience. I'll be stopping by Filson during all my future visits to Seattle, and I would advise anybody else to do the same! read more

Had to call for updates, no shipping information provided, no warning about the fact that it would be well into winter before I receive my goods. I purchased a lined tin cloth cruiser with the 30% fall discount but the sleeves are little too short. Called to arranged an exchange but they don't have the next size up. Now they are telling me I can't exchange for any other item, all they can do is size exchanges, and since they don't have the size I need in stock, all I can do is return for a refund. So because the jacket I bought doesn't fit and they don't have the next size up, no discount for me. Great stuff. I asked to speak to a supervisor to try to get someone with the power to help me and the answer I get is "I will pass your information on and a supervisor may or may not call you back." Purchased a jacket from Filson & zipper failed within 45 days. They promised to replace the zipper. I left jacket at store never heard back within said time & after three weeks I contacted them. After 2.5 months of persistent phone calls the zipper was repaired not replaced as originally promised. Truly immersive shopping experience & first class service. Their merchandising is incredible. First time to an actual Filson store. I came the first few minutes that they opened so I could experience the store for myself before too many people came in. I ended up getting an olive Journeyman backpack and a T-shirt. Nothing crazy but incredibly high quality. Well worth the price in my opinion. Clark helped me & so glad. Clark laid out 3 journeyman's in a row and allowed me to pick the one that I liked best. I only get up to Seattle every couple of years to visit in-laws. It's always a big part of my trip so i was excited. It was my first time going during summer. Quite a different feel. It was darker and almost empty. I didn't see many people at first and the repair station was closed. I was sad to hear that factory tours have stopped due to production being moved to another location. There were a lot of sale items but with recent price increases it didn't feel like much a sale. Visiting in Winter is definitely better. Here's a tip: buy belts 2 sizes bigger than pants size! read more

I have been a long, long, long time Filson customer. For the longest time there was never a question of where I would buy my outdoors clothing and gear (unless Filson didn't make it), and over the years I have spent many of my dollars with them since I believed in their quality and their commitment to producing in the USA. But unfortunately it appears that almost none of their products are made stateside anymore, I looked at 2 dozen products and none of them were made in the USA. What worse is that in conjunction with sending their manufacturing offshore they keep raising prices. It's not wrong to make products outside of the USA but it's a pretty bad business decision for a company that built its reputation on "Made in the USA" to all but abandon onshore manufacturing. Hopefully the current owners will decide to sell the company to someone who will bring it back to its former glory. read more

Traditional American clothing that just became even more inaccessible than before. While the prices astonished me at first, I kept trying to justify the thought of making a purchase because some of the items looked good, and that they would last a long time. And by some items, I mean about 2 jackets and a shirt since the pants never fit appropriately. To give a gauge of what fit I look for; I'm 6'6" and have an athletic build. I tried pants, which seem to be made for individuals with no musculature whatsoever. The waist was grossly large while my legs felt as though they were losing circulation. The workers proceeded to inform me this is a normal problem with other patrons as well. Still, I told myself I'd wait to buy a jacket down the line. Recently, however, Filson has decided to discontinue their "tall" selection, leaving the store with absolutely zero articles of clothing which fit. As far as jackets go, I might as well be swimming in a size XL anything, but when I put on a size L, the sleeves and taper are far too short to justify wearing in any capacity. I don't understand how Filson advertises to the burly PNW working man, yet has such a poor selection of clothes which would actually fit such men. The conclusion I've arrived at: it's not for that man. And, unfortunately, so long as they continue this boycott of creating clothes for those types of men, they'll never have my business again. read more

I wanted to be snobby, or an anti-snob, about Filson. I've lived around Seattle long enough to remember when they were a real local company with deep roots in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. Since they were purchased and rebranded/refinanced by a finance/marketing private equity firm I was ready to say 'they lost their soul.' No. That would have been the wrong thing to say. Sure they've been re-branded into a more upscale (expensive) product line and expanded their sales reach nationally and internationally, but they've also done a great job solidifying the product quality and consumer experience. Filson makes high quality outerwear, luggage, clothing, fishing, hunting, workwear and some accessories. Imagine if Carhartt, LL Bean and Orvis had a three-way and produced a precocious child. The stuff is rugged AND fashionable. The brand and product have both been revitalized and while the experience of shopping here is visually a bit of 'shopping as theater' the customer service belies that the theater is well cast. I've bought some belts, jackets, bags and hats here in the last year. They're all solid quality and still ooze that 'I'm from the Northwest and ready to abuse this solid old school gear heavy canvas and leather gear' charm. Last weekend I went back to say 'I lost a lot of weight, I need to buy a smaller belt' and was delighted to be told instead, 'why don't we just cut down the one you already bought?' 20 minutes later it was done. That manufacturing space showroom, and that special projects team- they're not just for show. It may seem hokey that they're pitching the 'we're still local' by displaying the innards of the manufacturing and special modifications floors- but they shortened my belt, treated the leather to update it, and returned it to me with a smile and a modicum of a charge- far less than the the price for a new belt in another color I purchased while I was waiting. This place is still good for locals, now also great for tourists. There's parking across the street in their own lot and decent on-street parking if you time it right. The store IS located in an area that's still primarily industrial, which adds to it's charm and credibility. Wow they used to be so great!! What happened to their online customer service?! They have completely stopped processing refunds and are not responding to emails. I got one response weeks ago that said they're behind. Well more weeks pass and still no refund due! Item just didn't fit, nothing wrong, still brand new with tags, and returned immediately. They have stopped responding to follow-ups. They are functioning outside of their own return and refund policy. Not sure if their staff quit or there's someone doing fraudulent work now in their return center, but this is completely unacceptable. Will need to file a complaint with the better business bureau. read more
