This little spot was recommended to us by a friend, so we drove 45 minutes to try it out. The café concept is cute, and I can see why it appeals to late night diners in the area, but for me, it was not worth the long drive from home. The staff were incredibly kind, the food came out quickly, and the place was busy, yet I still did not fully enjoy my overall experience. My mom ordered the Butter Chicken Rice Bowl, while my sister and I shared two Samosa Chaats, a four piece Punjabi Veg Samosa order, and a Mango Hibiscus Mocktail. When everything arrived, we quickly realized we had ordered far too much food for three people. The Samosa Chaats were solid and comforting without feeling overly heavy, and they seem like something that would really hit the spot late at night. Because we ordered two of them, the extra samosas ended up feeling unnecessary. While the butter chicken rice bowl was decent, we were not warned that it was spicy, which caught us off guard since butter chicken is usually mild. My mom struggled with the heat, which took away from her enjoyment. I was also not told that the mango hibiscus mocktail was carbonated. Although it tasted fine and slightly artificial, I personally dislike carbonation and could not finish more than a sip. Overall, this café has a fun concept, friendly service, and quick turnaround on food, but the dishes themselves were hit or miss, and the experience did not justify such a long drive. Filli is a popular spot from the middle east that has landed in Houston. The staff really does seem like they're working hard to maintain quality and efficiency of getting items out. I was there during a particularly busy time and they kept the lines moving quickly and our food and drinks were out in a reasonable time. Plenty of seating, more added outside during high volume times. The zafrani Chai or saffron Chai was one of the most authentic and generally well brewed cups of Chai I've ever had. I HIGHLY recommend the hot version although the child version in a Capri sun style pouch does seem cute. The zafrani milk cake was nice but had a minimal aftertaste that was a little off. The anda Keema roll was a paratha (south Asian bread) with well spiced ground beef, cheese and egg. It came with fries and is best enjoyed when it's hot. It was incredible. The portion looks small but I honestly could've shared with someone, it was THAT filling. This is a place that very easily could've been over-hyped, but it lived up to it and had a fun vibe. read more

My friend took me to try it out and it was a very disappointing experience. In general, the food was overpriced and forgettable. The masala fries was excessively salty, way more than any other place offer French fries. So, if you are avoiding high sodium, be aware because they will not warn you. The big issue I had was, this was the only sit-in restaurant I have ever been to where they would not provide free water to its guests. So, if you are not willing to purchase their high-markup drinks or a bottle of water, be careful not to choke on their overpriced food. There are plenty of options on the same lot and within short driving distance who will gladly offer free drink of water to the guest and their food is just as good, maybe better. I would never visit a restaurant again with such bad manners. Yes, I consider not offering a free cup of tap water to a paying customer eating in your food joint bad manners. read more

We tried the signature filli tea and Zafran chai tea, both are amazing: smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced with the sweetness and the chai spice. The caffeine content is strong, it will keep you energized and awake for a long time. We also tried the snacks: the Strawberry Rose Cake. It's like Indian version of tres leches cake, soaked in pink milk, topped with pistachio and rose flower petals. It's delicate and soft, highly recommend eating the cake there. Papdi chaat: first time trying chaat. It is so interesting, it has chickpeas, chutney, cold creamy yogurt and topped with crunchy sev. It is spicy, but worth it to try! There's plenty of seating inside, staff is nice and friendly. Service is kinda slow, waited 20-25 minutes for our order. Can't wait to come back and try other fun snacks here again. My friend wanted to try this cafe, and I'm glad she found it! The cafe is decorated very nicely and has a lot of seating. We ordered an Iced Zafran Chai (10/10!), Kunafa (nice subtle sweetness), Samosa Chaat (VERY SPICY for me), Spiced Zafran Pouch (a little too sweet for me), and Aloo Paratha (potato filling, spicy and crispy, would definitely order again). Their prices are reasonable and they have an extremely extensive menu. The staff also answered our questions about the menu and helped us choose what to order. I have been here twice, first time was in the evening, and second time was early as soon as the restaurant opened. Both visits we received excellent customer service. The entire staff is very pleasant and helpful. The ambiance is great, no tacky decor which is a plus. An abundance of seating which is really nice. As for the food, I have tried: Samosa chaat (not a fan, was served cold and a little too watered down), karak chai (excellent), mango dragon fruit lemonade (delicious), and the chicken sliders (presentation was picture perfect and taste was great. I understand the sizing of a slider, but I just felt like the actual piece of chicken to bun ratio was a little off. It didn't ruin anything for me, just something I noticed). What a great place! The staff was super welcoming, answered all of our questions and made suggestions when we weren't sure what to order. We came for the Iced Zafran Chai, which was absolutely delicious. It's like nothing I've ever had before - Flavorful but not too sweet and still hit me with the caffeine kick I needed mid afternoon. As mentioned, we asked the staff for recommendations for a couple shareable snacks. He recommended the Samosa & Papdi Chaat which were perfect for what we wanted. The Samosas were beautifully fried, and stuffed with ingredients on the inside. Papdi Chaat was spicy, creamy and wonderful. I'd never had it before and really enjoyed the different textures and how it all went well together. Today i went to filli cafe and had a terrible experience, the serving size was tiny, i ordered food for approx 140$, left 17% tip as well and was so excited but after seeing the portions of the food and the taste i was highly disappointed. Tried out this place after a raving review from my best friend as a date night spot on a Tuesday night. Even for a Tuesday night, the place was pretty active. The decor is cute, there is plenty of seating, it feels cozy and comfortable. I could definitely see myself coming here often for a midday pick me up or late night chill spot if I lived closer. Between two people, we tried the masala chai and the zafran chai in the lite version. Both were flavorful, creamy, and gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling inside when you know you have had a good cup of chai. I did, however, find the lite version still too sweet. I prefer my chai on the strong and spicy side, so if I were to go back, I would order the zero version and add sugar to my taste. I appreciate that they offer options for people to adjust the tea to their liking. We also got the rose cake, which was delicious. I loved how moist and milky it was. The cake itself was not too sweet, so the rose milk added added the perfect sweet floral notes. It was just the right size to share between the two of us. The service was good and the prices are decent. I know that I can make my own tea at home, but for a treat once in a while, this place is great. This place is always crowded late at night and such a vibe! You can play board games until late so great for a hangout spot in Sugar Land! There's a huge lot to park in so thats a plus. For drinks: The iced Zafron chai is incredible! I always get that one and it has never failed me. Ive tried their mojitos and they're good but love the chai. For appetizers: The masala fries are great, it has a great seasoning on the fries! I also got the papri chaat and it was good too! For food: I got the chicken foodles and it was sooo good! Best saffron chai ever. This place has been packed from day 1. It's the same complex as Ashars. Used to have plenty of parking. Now seems a bit hard to find parking. The service is great. People seem to love the ambience and just like hanging out. Saw some people playing cards and other games with their family here. It gets really busy on the weekends with super long lines. We have been there multiple times already on the weekdays with no issues. There seems to be a kiosk where you can speed checkout your drinks. The long version: The chefs crunchy fried burger was interesting. It sure lives up to the name. It's deep fried lol. I didn't love it but it was good. Very different than anything I've had before. It could be good or bad depending on your taste, if you like fried food or not. Achari Chicken Melt - The filling inside of it is pretty good but the wrap itself is a little too fried/crispy. A softer texture would make this even better! Chicken Schzewan Foodles - The best thing we tried from the menu! The foodles are sooo good and a must-have! Iced Zafron Chai is delicious. It tastes like a chai spiced latte. It is a little on the sweeter side but it was still very good The fries that come as a side with each dish I felt could be a little better. Perhaps a little crispier would do the trick. I hope to try this place again but dine in next time so it's fresh.
