Came here multiple times for poke and fish quality is good but they stopped using sushi rice in poke bowls which is sad.

The sushi is good for Richmond but unfortunately they are very consistent about being very slow.

This is probably the best sushi I've ever had. Miso soup and edamame come with every meal. I actually really enjoyed the soup, I'm not normally a fan of it. We started with the flaming tuna nachos, seriously YUM. It has some noticeable kick which is great cause we love it spicy. My BF ordered the monster roll and the name speaks for it's size, it was huge! I enjoyed watching him try to chew such big pieces, haha. I tried one but opted to use a fork, it was tasty but it was no match for the amazingness of my tuna love roll. It was so good I debated a long time on getting another one but didn't want to be miserably full. We opted to share dessert instead. We got their homemade cheesecake, it was not like normal cheesecake, it was light and fluffy and a perfect ending to our meal. We will definitely come back and try more. Service was also really good. We don't have good sushi in Charlottesville and we will make the drive to Richmond to eat here again! read more

I'm visiting RVA. One of the things I enjoy doing while in RVA is checking out its vibrant restaurant scene. I was really excited to read about Fighting Fish and saw from Yelp that it's wheelchair accessible. It's not. Just because you're on street level doesn't mean you're accessible, especially when there's a 3+ inch threshold at your entrance that my power chair cannot get up. You could keep a portable ramp handy for such instances (they are not very expensive.) Another work-around is an entrance through the kitchen or alternative entrance. But none of the above options were available so we went away very disappointed. Please update the info on Yelp because currently it says that you're wheelchair accessible, but that is not the case at all. read more

We made a reservation​ for two at 6pm on a Saturday, knowing it's a small restaurant. We were seated immediately, they had a table waiting for us, maybe three other groups dining at the same time leaving a few other tables open. They did seem to fill up quickly while we were there. The waitress brought us water and recommended the sushi donuts or the tuna nachos. We were served miso soup which was included, it was probably some of the best miso I've had. We started with the tuna nachos, they were really spicy, but good. They were a lot smaller than we expected with maybe 6 tortilla chips with the spicy tuna and mango salsa on top. I wouldn't recommend ordering this as an entree. We then got the spicy samurai​ and tiger tempura rolls and the spicy poke bowl. The rolls were both very good with fresh fish. I got the salmon version of the spicy poke bowl and it was very fresh and had a lot of flavor, and not too spicy. Service was great and fast. We were there for about 45 minutes total, and left with full bellies. For a small restaurant and small menu I would definitely recommend it. read more

Okay, where is the 10 stars option? I cannot say enough good things about this place! After my initial 5 star visit, I thought it couldn't get any better. In fact, that it would be difficult to consistently achieve this level of quality, flavor, and attention to detail. But here we are. My husband and I started with the Poke flight again, but opted for only 1 spicy option this time. Out of this world flavorful. The wonton chips are crispy and delicious, not greasy at all. Also, the complementary miso and edamame were a nice touch. Especially since the edamame was heated and seasoned. Talk about addictive. We also shared the 'tuna love' roll which was spicy but lovely. Beautifully made. The wasabi mayo was a bit much for me, but if you're a wasabi fan, this will leave you happy. My husband got the shrimp sushi burrito again, which did not disappoint. Generous portion and very apparently made to order and fresh. This time, I got the Hawaiian Poke bowl. Half tuna, half salmon. Good god, I could eat this daily and still crave it. HUGE portion of fresh, marinated, sashimi. Over fluffy and delicious, slightly sweet sticky rice. And the topping were piled high. Picked red onion, ginger, seaweed, fish roe (not a fan of fish roe, but it was beautiful and abundant on this bowl), green onion and more. The perfect balance of textures, flavors, color, and quality. This is Asian fusion done right - simple balanced flavors but executed wonderfully. We will for sure keep coming back. Also - the local non-chain restaurant vibe can't be beat. Friendly staff, cozy space, and just darn good food. My only gripe is that this is the only location. Wow! Start with easily the freshest raw seafood in the city, add in a mix of both classic and innovative preparations, all at reasonable prices and you've got the best new restaurant in Richmond. Been here a couple times and it hasn't disappointed. Have tried the sashimi plate and the chirashi don. During lunch these dishes come with miso soup and edamame which is a nice touch. If you're rocking a smaller appetite I'd recommend the sashimi plate, but the chirashi don is simply divine, the yellowtail and salmon had me in a trancelike state. Worth every penny read more

I can't say enough good things about my experience at Fighting Fish. The menu was very different from other restaurants in Richmond and I was thankful for the waitress's knowledge and recommendations. She was incredibly helpful in picking out meals and understanding what the different components of the menu were. The actual meal was incredible and was one of the best I've had in ages. I tried the snail and seaweed salad which was absolutely delicious and especially loved the sushi donut. We didn't know what to expect when we were getting this, and actually weren't quite sure how best to eat it, but the waitress yet again came to give us some advice. Loved the poke and sushi and would absolutely recommend any person who has a love for fish or sushi ... or something a little different ... give it a try.
