Had to work in Wheeling for a day and arrived the previous evening. This place was a recommendation by a colleague (who came with us also) and DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Traditional family style Italian restaurant - homemade everything, nice bar, good selections. There were 4 of us and we all had excellent meals, great cocktails and some delicious Italian wine. Food was deliciously good and good portions without being over the top. We chose Italian wine with dinner and it was good.. Our waitress was awesome - very friendly and helped us out with specials. We shared a bread basket which was nice - fresh and hot with a garlic butter - tasted great. I did manage some images of the food but I can't find them (after backing up my phone). We stayed until closing as we got there later and the staff were fun and very helpful. If I'm back in Wheeling, I'll definitely go back there.. read more

I ordered 4 meatballs and only received 2. Called restaurant and they said nothing they could do. I could drive there and get my correct order but I'm at a hotel in the area for work. I had to reach out to delivery com. My 18.00 chicken parmigiana looked like about 10$ worth paid 44 for this meal. Will not order from here ever again when I am in the area. My wife and I ate here for the first time on a Thursday night. It was "prime rib night." The prime rib was excellent! I had a side of spaghetti with marinara, a salad with balsamic vinaigrette, and started the meal with a cup of lobster bisque. I have been here about a half dozen or so times over the years because people I know like it. This is not my kind of restaurant. The staff are not very attentive upon arrival. The atmosphere is always dark, dingy, crowded and loud. It is NOT an elegant or classy restaurant. The feel is more like a stuffy bar. The food is overpriced mediocrity. The sauce is extremely sweet for my taste, which is a personal preference, but it barely tastes of tomato. It definitely isn't fresh. The pastas have always been either over or under done. I prefer a good al dente. They did have a mushroom ravioli once years ago that was quite tasty but the pasta was very thick. Even the plating lacks any real care. The plates are usually sloppy with just some parsley tossed on it. The bread is good and the waitresses have all been nice. If you like sweet, jarred sauce and don't mind the atmosphere, you will probably enjoy it. read more

Was expecting so much more after looking on their website! We had driven to Wheeling from Charleston, to go to the Festival of Lights at Oglebay. Not expecting so much traffic, we knew we wouldn't have time to eat and go thru the park, so we decided to try this restaurant as it was close to where we were in traffic to the park. We had about a 20 minute wait which was no big deal. The waitress took our drink order, which was 2 sweet ice teas, no lemon. She brought 2 teas with lemon, and after we tasted them they were both unsweetened. Not a good start. We ordered 2 appetizers, the stuffed banana peppers, which were good, and the fried homemade provolone. I truly believe this was just frozen cheese sticks cut into a triangular shape. Too much breading, not very tasty. I ordered the Fig's App Over Fettuccine. The noodles were chewy, there was way too much sauce and peppers and onions, and it was not at all appealing to look at. I found the sauce to have a too sweet taste. My husband ordered one of the veal dishes and said it was just ok. The bread served right after you are seated was in my opinion the best thing I ate there that night. My husband ordered garlic bread, and said,the bread we were served before dinner was better than the garlic bread! Salads were fresh. Wouldn't return. read more

I have been a resident of Wheeling for more than 30 years. Figaretti's has always been one of the best, authentic, hand made, Italian family owned restaurants in Wheeling. The last time I was there, I opted for the carry out version via Door Dash. When I got to the restaurant, my order was for cheesticks and calamari, was taking a long time. The staff was great and kept checking on me and my order. Finally someone from the kitchen came up front to let me know the restaurant was out of calamari. So, they replaced my item for any other item I wanted and never charged me the up charge. I got lobster ravioli, which is one of their best ravioli's. Their sauce is worth trying. I recommend lasagna or any alfredo pasta. Chicken parm is also a favorite of mine. Tony is sometimes in town and makes the rounds to the table. Portions are large and plentiful. The seafood is fresh too, flown in daily. You won't find fake WV shrimp at Figaretti's with their shrimp cocktail. read more

Horrible. Traveling through Pennsylvania and a hotel desk clerk recommended this place. The "homemade" bread was actually store bought, pre-sliced "Italian" white bread that I occasionally buy for cold meat sandwiches at home. The front desk greeter at Figaretti's warms up the slices in a bread oven by the front desk and serves with butter and Italian spices. They stairstep the bread on a plate so only half of each slice gets butter and spice. Weird all around! We tried various fried appetizers and they seemed to be frozen/store bought, not freshly made. The house salad turned out to be the best part of our meal as the entrees were as about as appetizing as the appetizers...seemingly pre-made, frozen ingredients and lukewarm. Totally baffled as most reviews of this place are fantastic. I could understand if the issues were supply chain related, but I don't think this was the case. My wife and I only ate 2-3 bites of each entree then stacked the plates on top of each other with the appetizer plates on top to hide the uneaten food so we wouldn't have to explain why we didn't eat the meal. EVERYTHING I ordered at this restaurant was well beyond expectations. I ordered the Mushroom Brie Bisque as an appetizer, blue crab ravioli in vodka sauce and veal Parmesan (added sausage) for my main dishes. Also had a Birra Moretti. I had to order everything I wanted to try as I'm only visiting town for work. Taking home tons of leftovers. I can honestly say this is the best Italian food I have had since visiting Italy in 2013! Been coming to Figaretti's for years and, if you stick to their strengths, it's a passable local Italian restaurant. Red sauce, pasta, parmigiana, Alfredo etc. all are tasty and well prepared. If you venture into the seafood, things can easily go terribly wrong. Most recently, the eggplant parmigiana, lasagna were really good. The chicken alfredo was cold and the tuna dinner was so over cooked it was inedible. The carrot cake dessert was delicious. The service is attentive, even on a busy night. read more

My rule of thumb for choosing any restaurant is generally to first check for four stars or higher on Yelp. We decided to wait 30 minutes for a table precisely because of the rating, but it's probably the first time I don't agree with it. Our service was good but both of our orders were just so-so. My friend got their appetizer combo (huge btw!!) and only cared for the zucchini. Mine was recommended by our server, the Dino Fig Special, fettuccine with spicy marinara sauce, jumbo shrimp and black mussels. Completely underwhelming. The sauce was lacking, nothing special about it in my opinion. The bread was boring Italian white without sesame seeds, and the butter was too cold to spread. This is definitely a hidden gem in Wheeling. This is probably the kind of place that you would drive right by if you could even find it, but thanks to Yelp you will be able to find it and enjoy it. This place is small and well-known to the locals, so get there early if you don't want to wait. I arrived about 5:15 on a Tuesday night, and by the time I left at 6:00 there were already people waiting. If you can't get there early but you still want some great Italian food, they also do a brisk carry-out business with a dedicated driveway behind the building for curb-side carryout. However you get your food, it's worth the trouble. I had mushroom brie bisque that was creamy and flavorful, and linguine with clam sauce. Both were delicious. From what I saw on other diners' tables just about anything looked good. Cocktails are reasonably priced, with a generous amount of spirits. Some other reviews complain that this isn't "fine dining" and I would agree, but for me that's the best part. No cloth napkins or table cloths, no snooty servers, no reservations, no dress code. Just generous portions of delicious food prepared and served by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. When I wanted a second whiskey sour, the bar tender asked if I minded if she reused the same glass. Some people might not like this, but to me this is a good illustration of the type of place this is. Would you get a clean glass at home for a second drink? I know that I wouldn't because it doesn't make the drink any better, it just wastes hot water and detergent to wash it. Don't plan to go there with a large group. Most of the seating is 4-person booths, with only 2 larger tables for about 6 people each. There is also a double-sided bar with about 16 seats. Most of the bar customers are locals that seem to know each other, but I still felt welcome. Parking at first appears to be severely limited, but don't drive by just because you don't see a parking space. The restaurant has an agreement with some local businesses within a block or two to use their parking lot after business hours. Signs in the restaurant parking lot will direct you. My only down side is that service at the bar is a little slow since the bar tender is busy making drinks and handling cash for all of the other servers. As a business traveler that frequently eats alone at the bar this is something that I have come to expect, but since I didn't have anywhere to go other than back to my hotel for the night it wasn't an issue for me. read more

Never understood the big deal made about this place. Its dark and dingy. To hide the roaches I guess? Last time I was there, I ordered a frozen margarita. I got a room temp margarita with mildew floating in it. The server was very apologetic and wanted to make it right; however, by that point, I was already put off and afraid to order any food. We found Figaretti's and we are so pleased they accommodated us! Enzio and his staff are all amazing! Our food was delicious and the staff were always right there for anything we needed. This used to be the spot to go for good food. No longer. 2 orders of fried zucchini had to be sent back. Almost black and slices were stuck together so only fried on one side. Grease just poured off the zucchini also. Banana peppers stuffed with Italian sausage were tough. How that happened is beyond me! Spaghetti with marinara sauce order by a vegetarian taste good but found meat in the sauce. Salads were nice. Wedding soup is "different" than it used to be. Service was great!! When I found out I would be going to Wheeling for training, my friend from Arkansas told me that I should check out Figaretti's because a food critic from his area had covered it and raved about it. I loooove Italian food, so I decided it would be the first restaurant I'd try during my stay. Upon arriving, I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the waitresses were. The ambiance felt comfortable and cozy, and although it was just me, I immediately thought it would be a nice place for a date. The decor suited the vibe of the restaurant, and I appreciated that it had an intimate feeling. They brought bread when I first arrived, and I thought it tasted pretty good. They had several options on the menu, and I opted for the Maryland Blue Crab ravioli with vodka sauce. I respected that their pasta is made and stuffed there (from what I read), and I can honestly say it was some of the best Italian food I've ever eaten. If you like stuffed pasta, this is your place!! The side salad was a standard salad, but it did come with the ravioli. I splurged and got tiramisu for dessert, which I absolutely recommend because it's delicious! A lot of times when you go to local Italian restaurants, you just find a little pizzeria with the same 'ol spaghetti sauce. This place is unique, though, and absolutely worth the stop. read more
