6/10 Update: apparently 3 police agencies notified by owner, police report filed and he admits to poor service and says the food complaint is "laughable." I'm the first and the only important one! We were driving back home to Chicago and saw this little gem appear, so initial thought let's go and eat everything! Ok let's get right into the fried catfish!!! I mean wow, WOW!! It's hard to deliver a fish like that! The flavor, the portion, the everything was exactly how this fish was supposed to be prepared. Had to pay an extra $5 for a cup of greens (also with bones), they no longer have complimentary cornbread, and there is no choice of sauces. Menu has been drastically reduced from our last visit, usually a bad sign. Parking lot was 1/2 full but there were only 3 tables seated, and a couple of folks in the bar area. Our first few experiences there were great, no probs. Not so much now--this visit was really poor. Service was fine, soft drinks were reasonably priced. They still don't offer carryout, yet they have containers for you to take your leftovers home in. read more

I had their plate with some of all their meats with fries and coleslaw. Meats were nicely done with a good light smoke flavor, the sausage, I enjoyed good texture and seasonings with jalapeño. Their fries were good, but the coleslaw was bitter and full of mayonnaise. Now, if you're a diabetic all their sauces have sugar as an ingredient. Of course, the same with their baked beans, the rest of the sides are starches. It's not a fancy place but nicely done and clean. Worth another visit. read more

I was disappointed when Wheatberry closed. And then I heard a new BBQ restaurant opened there. Finally got to try it with some friends from Kentucky. I had the catfish, fries, and arugula salad. And they split the mixed platter. It all looked and smelled heavenly. And it tasted really good too. The catfish batter was nicely done. The blueberry habanero was the sauce from their platter I asked to try. It was incredible. My friends loved the food and the sauces. Will definitely be back! read more

BBQ chicken was dried out and the sides were not edible. I was hoping for some good take out but would not order from here again.

I'm not sure what is going on at this restaurant but we had a really bad experience. This was the first time we came here. The waitress brought one drink at a time after over 10 minutes of waiting for fountain pop. The place was dead on a Saturday evening. They served 2 of us 20 minutes before the other two got our food. The waitress didn't communicate anything. The place was super cold. Our drinks were left empty the entire time. Everything we tried to order they were out of. I've spent my entire life in the restaurant industry and know how things can be so for me to leave a 1 star review is a challenge to accomplish. Overall really disappointed. read more

We were a party of 6 3 adults and three kids came in on a friday night around seven pm There were about five tables in the restaurant when we arrived. Immediately when we ordered lemonade for the kids, we were told there was no lemonade. We asked what else there was for them to drink and we were told water. We suggested orange juice as they have a full bar and they complied. Where do I begin? Seems like everything we ordered was not available and our waitress would have an attitude when she told us about it. I personally ordered a $26 barbecued salmon meal and I was excited as I am a pestcatarian and don't usually get barbecue. We ordered drinks and they were good, I Although I waiters brought me a second one and I had not even asked for it... the situation was so bad. I just drank it. After waiting about an hour, my meal arrived with sweet potatoes that were so hard I couldn't chew them and my salmon was way overcooked. Black on the bottom and DRIED out. I was hungry but told our waitress about the potatoes and she returned with similar potatoes that had been chopped up in a small container. They were at least edible. Every member of our party had a similar experience. We are all disgusted with the service as we are also former servers ourselves. When we were ready to check out, our waitress was unable to provide us with receipts as she said. that printer was broken. So we just signed off on amounts that we had no knowledge of. Mine was $48 for a $26 meal and 2 drinks. Needless to say, we did not tip very well. I will never come back here again and I will tell everyone I know how horrible this experience was. Together we spent $200 and this experience was awful. read more

Wow. That is all I can manage to say. Me and my family went for Sweetest Day and absolutely enjoyed it! The servers were incredibly nice and caring, the honey-glazed cornbread was delicious, and we absolutely loved the old country bar feel! There was only one server for the place and you could tell she was overwhelmed. We ordered a platter with 2 of the meats as we weren't very hungry and figured it would be enough for us to share... there was 2 bite fulls of brisket and 3 very burnt pieces of chicken.. and the Mac and cheese was just noodles sprinkled with cheese, as well as the noodles being hard. Our server was great. Very friendly and upbeat. Food came out quickly. Big improvement from past visits. Unfortunately the food was disappointing. Our $16 appetizer had 5 shrimp. FIVE. It was very tasty, but not worth $16. The ribs were very fatty, even for ribs. They were just okay taste-wise. The fries were tasty, but not at all crispy. The catfish was little pieces of over battered fish and too many bones. This was our 4th try. I doubt we will be back. read more

We really looked forward to trying this place but let me tell you this place is not worth your money. Went when they opened, virtually nobody inside. One couple and then our party of 4, took almost an hour to get any food and still somehow got brought someone else's food by mistake. Portions were small compared to the very high prices on the menu. $30 platter of 3 meats more like a basket that had barely anything in it (1/2 cup pulled pork, 4 rib tips that were more bones and gristle than meat, and one small slice of brisket) . The loaded Mac and cheese was anything but that, dry non cheesy noodle with the smallest amount of meat shredded on top. Salad came to the table with lettuce so stiff it could be compared to plastic, asked for no tomato comes with 4 large slices, asks where the croutons are and told they are put after the meal was brought out. Would give them less than 1 star if I could. We left hungry and unsatisfied. We will not be back. read more
