This place is a great place for either a quick breakfast or sit down brunch. There is a bunch of street parking. The place itself is cute and has a lot of seating. I did not venture upstairs since I came on a Monday morning and it was very empty. We ordered the food at the bar and sat down next to the beautiful windows. The food was brought to us and I have absolutely no issues with the food. I ordered the Sicilian omelette which was a sausage, pepper and mushroom omelette. It was cooked perfectly and even came with potatoes, a slice of orange and 2 pieces of toasted baguette. If I lived in this area, this would be my go to breakfast/brunch spot. Meh. We came here for a breakfast on the way to Carmel. Not many options for breakfast so don't get your hopes up. there were a few pastries and about 4 choices of omelets. We had the bacon and cheese omelet (to split). It comes with a salad (at 9:30 in the morning) and 2 small pieces of bread that were grilled. my boyfriend and i came by here on our way back from san francisco & i love this place so much! the ambiance is very welcoming and quite unique in my opinion. i got the Sicilian omelette & my boyfriend got the prosciutto panini. i'm so sad i won't be able to try their other dishes anytime soon though! we definitely plan to come back some time in the future to try their other dishes. they have pasta & panini's that sound so good. the experience is so intimate as they know who to bring the food to after you sit down (no number & no call outs!). i believe it's the owner who was here today but he was so nice & welcoming :) we can't wait to come back! tldr; great cafe, great food, fast & intimate service. i'm excited to come back eventually! read more

Disappointing to say the least. Got in and three ladies were ahead of me. Server took way too long just taking their three orders. Then I'm literally right in front of the server waiting a couple minutes for him to ask me what I want to order and a lady walks up and cuts me to buy a couple drinks. The server helps her before me! Okay whatever, hopefully the food is good. The ham, egg, and cheese croissant was pretty good. The pastrami sandwich was dry and not very well melted. Fries looked like your standard store bought frozen fries. I'm sure their other food is probably better but the service was a huge turnoff so I probably won't be coming back here. read more

I like to try out tiny little cafés. There are often surprises and hidden gems, but I think ultimately the average American place just isn't about food, but nostalgia. A lot of places I've visited in the peninsula are like that. If I had been around for decades, I'm sure I would have loved them as well. Unfortunately, I just find this place a bit underwhelming. Yes, I have tried their lasagna. It was decent, but really not worth the great reviews -- perhaps because of the time I spent on the east coast, I find Italian food generally underwhelming out west, and the lasagna just didn't really have the heartiness I was looking for. The coffee? It was just ok. Definitely isn't like the third-wave that you can find just about everywhere now (ok, San Mateo still hasn't got a good place imo, but I'm willing to travel for good coffee). I like the vibe here. It's homey, and has a mom-and-pop-shop feel. But it was just like all the other old places around -- locals love it, but for a newcomer like me (who have lived in other big cities), it just wasn't satisfying enough. read more

This has been a staple for my family. We come here at least once a week, the staff is friendly the food is delicious and the vibes are homey. Philipo, the owner is so kind and welcoming, I've never entered or exited without him personally welcoming me in and wishing me a great rest of my day. I really wanted to like this place - but when the server/owner kicks you out an hour before closing on a Saturday afternoon, for no reason, while continuing to serve the rest of the people in the restaurant, I think that's a pretty good sign not to come back and support this business. Maybe it's because we looked like students or were wearing plain workout clothes, but we did not get to order more because we were told that the place was closing. My bf just took me here and need to write a review... I am the most difficult person to impress with food. 1-I am strict with my diet, 2- I am strict with the source of my food, and 3- I am a harsh critic of flavors. This place exceeded my boyfriends praise of the place. The owner is so sweet and passionate. The employees have great energy, it really sets the atmosphere on a positive note.. So I started off with an almond latte... this was shocking because normally, coffee doesn't settle well with me, and usually tastes too bitter in my opinion, but the coffee here is delicious! Never have I got energy from coffee without the jitters until having the coffee here (his coffee is imported) So the food- wow! I had the mushroom soup and salmon salad. So simply made. We had been going to Fiero since the birth of our oldest son- regularly for about 6 years before we moved out of town. Taking our son there and enjoying a lovely breakfast or a coffee, or an afternoon snack has been such a big part of our lives. We happened to be in town this weekend and of course made it a point to stop by. After a couple years since our last visit, this place is still as special as it was. The food is always perfect and comforting, and it comes with very friendly service. But it is truly the owner, Filippo, who makes this spot feel like home. He really puts such care into his cafe and it shows. My son remembers his warm greetings and was eager to say "hello" and after all this time away he remembered our little family, especially our son and it just warmed our hearts. Came here randomly on a Saturday morning and loved everything from the spacious, sunny interior to the very yummy and filling food! Ordered the sicilian scramble, chocolate croissant, and turkey pesto panini and it was A LOT of food for 2 people, but we loved it! The scramble was hard to eat because there was crumbled sausage inside, but it was super yummy. The panini was pretty good, very cheesy. They did not have almond milk so I opted for whole milk....and I noticed the man making my drink used a powdered chocolate. È buonissimo! How have I lived in San Mateo county all these years and not know of this local treasure, hidden in plain sight?? Having Italian heritage and tasted the OG cuisine, it's really difficult for me to find actual quality Italian food accessible in the Bay. This place was a real treat to discover: the dining areas are always clean and well-lit, the ambience is warm and inviting while a variety of folksy music plays softly. Start reading the menu and you might feel you've stepped into Italy for a bit. Of course the most important aspect is the food, which may seem a little on the higher priced side for some dishes, but it's SO WORTH IT. My super picky opera singer friend who lives and studies in Italy REALLY enjoyed this place. Everything is great, especially the bolognese pasta specials and their lattes. Filippo the owner is your classic, boisterous, warm-hearted Sicilian who was over the moon upon reading my debit card and learning I was also Sicilian, as is tradition. Like he literally ran around the counter to greet me in the Italian way LOL. The entire staff are extremely accommodating and treat you like family, even if it's your first time visiting.
