Came to Fieldwork on a Saturday afternoon before heading to a football game at Cal. This was our second brewery stop of the day, ended up parking by the first one and just walking over here. Got here about 1pm and there was plenty of parking on the street. No line to order at the bar when we walked in and plenty of seating (mostly outside because it was cold, but still some tables inside). Bartended was really helpful in recommending beers to my mom (who doesn't drink beer) and even let her try a few of the beers before she decided. The rest of us ordered flights. The whole tap list wasn't on the board, but they had QR codes that took you to the full menu online. By the time we got all our pours and sat down the line was starting to get a bit longer, and after a few minutes it went all the way to the door. Beers were good, sours were a little on the sweet side, not my favorites of the day, but still good enough that I would go back and try others again in the future. Final 2021 Review: Fieldwork is one of the most popular local brewery in Berkeley that offers many unique beers that one cannot get somewhere else. One of the unique characters of this place is that today's favorite beer may not be available on your next visit. Their beer selection changes. They have at least over 30 types. But only about 8-10 that are available to take home. I was introduced to this brewery in 2021 by one of my co-workers. So, I don't come here often to seat down and have a pint. But since it's close by my work, I sometimes stop by and grab a 4-pack, 1 pint cans. So, for New Year's Eve I grabbed 2 4-packs; Double IPA Mosaic, 8%, and Single IPA Sticky Bandit on a citrus side at 7%. I know it's high alcohol content but no worries, I'll be enjoying these at home. So, if you are a beer-aficianado, you'll like this place. But if you are a newby to beer like I am, this is a best place to start and learn. Regardless of your beer-IQ level, Fieldwork is worth a field trip. I've been to a few fieldwork locations, but Berkeley is my favorite. Plenty of seating, a large menu and you can order those can growlers directly from the tap. Servers are accommodating when I wanted to try a few before deciding on a beer (I went with a sour for my first beer and a hazy for my second). Looking forward to returning again soon. read more

Their salads are great and their beers are good but the service at the Berkeley location sucks. I've come twice in the past 4 weeks, and both times there's a line to the door and one guy taking orders/working the register. Tonight those in line were annoyed. Finally another employee came out, but it took a long while. Maybe I noticed this because whenever I go to fieldwork in San Leandro, they have amazing service. Tips: - Go early because they can get pretty busy on weekend afternoons - Get their flights because you can taste all of their amazing beers - Dress accordingly because some outdoor seating depending on the time of day can be really sunny. Now I have to say, I'm NOT a beer person. BUT!!! This is a place I'd want to come back to just because the beers offered here are DELICIOUS. Came here on a Sunday night with my boyfriend and one of my close college friends visiting from out of state. The guys were making the orders for flights since I'm not one to have high hopes for beer unless I'm playing a drinking game or socializing. When I tried some of the options, I was highly impressed; there is not a single beer place in the Bay that I could say a majority of what I've had there is what I like. Those are the two I can drink happily and confidently say are the best beers I have EVER had. The venue is really big, spacious, and welcoming for big parties. Oh man! I could probably post thousands of pictures from my many visits to this spot, but I'll just post pictures from my most recent visit. My husband and I are OBSESSED with this spot. So much space inside, but given COVID considerations, I'm sure people are wondering about outdoor accommodations -- there's a decent amount of outdoor seating with about half of them near overhead heaters. Now for the beers... just. the. BEST! Nearly every day the menu changes and new options are offered. So many sours, IPAs, etc. Currently really digging their sour options. The flights are our go-to. Food options are limited, but filling and tasty. We got the Take Five sandwich recently and always get the hummus, their take on Chex mix, and the pretzel. I am SO sad they got rid of the butter. WTH!!! Please bring it back. The mustard is great, but nothing pairs better with that pretzel than the butter. Highly, highly recommend this spot. Heard rumblings about a new location opening up -- hyped, but will definitely still continue to come here. It's our favorite! read more

They still got it. It had been awhile since my last review of Fieldworks, but they're still just as delicious as ever! I was worried about what impact the pandemic would have on craft breweries, but Fieldworks has opened 6 locations in 7 years and they are still going strong! Their beers are a must if you enjoy IPAs. Their hazy, east coast style IPAs may actually be better than those I've had on the East Coast! My personal favorites are their hearty, dark beers. Most recently, I ordered their Hot Chocolate milk stout (contains lactose) and was thrilled by the combination of rich, creamy chocolate balanced with notes of cayenne and cinnamon! Pretty big Brewery with plenty of seating. We had some issues finding parking but ended up parking by the skate park down the street. They have menus and flight cards when entering the building and we ordered up front. If you order food, they give you a number to take with you to bring the food to you. We did a flight of 6 which were pretty big pours and ordered the Banh Works and the Take Five sandwiches. For our flight: Solace & Virtue Melody & Silence Sixth & Canal Brick & Timber Rainbow Parfait Hannah I loved all of the beers. All the light beers were easy to drink and had great flavors. I was very pleasantly surprises with the Rainbow Parfait as it was not too tart and had a slight sweetness to it. The sandwiches were good as well, they were kind of like a panini. Fieldwork Brewing has a large, snazzy facility for beer production and retail sales. The interior of the tap room is delightful. Great place for a date or after-work happy hour with co-workers. On the night we went, they were serving these homemade pretzels that were lightly caked with those huge grains of white salt. So delicious! My beer recommendation is the "1502". Its a Vienna Lager. Served in a beautiful bulbous glass. At 5.5% ABV, you will still be able to drive home. The body is large, the bitterness medium, and the sweetness low. Perfect with one of those nice salty pretzels! Came here Saturday with my friend. It wasn't too busy. We were able to get a seat outside around 3 pm. You can either order inside at the bar or with a server outside. We got the summer tasters. It came with 6 glasses and was only $18! Great deal. They have some food on the menu too. There was also a pizza truck outside that we ordered from. Great for groups! They also allow dogs. First time visiting Fieldwork after a family visit to Albany beach and it was fantastic. Great food, great service and wonderful beers! Adam our host was so friendly even though you could see he was busy - well it was a Saturday evening! Went here while SIP. Wait time was quick for a Saturday- we got a table in about 20 minutes? Staff was very friendly. We initially got a small table for 3 people and asked if we could switch to a bigger table and the server sanitized the table and we were switched very simple. Also they serve "frozen pizza", yes.... frozen. You need to buy a food item while you're there so if you decide on getting frozen pizza just know that it is actually frozen and you need to take it home to warm up and eat. Besides that they offer sandwiches. I honestly thought they were going to suck lol but when the sandwich came out it was warm, crunch and delicious on each bite. Yum! I can never get enough beer from fieldwork. It is absolutely one of my favorite breweries in the Bay Area. And while they always have plenty of IPA and hoppy beers to keep me happy, they are not a one-trick pony. The excel just as much at hop bombs as they do a goses, sours, and more. I will gladly drink fieldwork anywhere, but I'm always excited when I can drink their beers on-site in Berkeley. It's an excellent spot, tuck away on 6th st and with seemingly never-ending sunshine (at least, in my experience.) The indoor space was ample in pre-pandemic times (though recently they have opened up limited capacity again), but there is also a good amount of outdoor space too. On most days, outdoors is where its at. You can easily spend a few hours here very happily. During the pandemic, they've been offering a small menu of food (as I take it, that has a been requirement of continuing to serve on-site for most of the pandemic). On my most recent visit, I was there around lunch so I enjoyed a delicious banh mi (super excited to see a vegan option, especially on such a small food menu). If they continue to serve food, I hope the menu will keep growing (maybe with food truck partners or something similar.) I'm not going to attempt to describe the beer, but only say that if you take craft beer seriously you won't be disappointed. There is a lot of shite beer out there, and beer that is middle of the road (ok in a pinch), but fieldwork is the stuff you go out of your way for. Cheers to the crew for keeping it real. read more

After some windy drive from downtown Berkeley, here is an industrial looking neighborhood with warehouses and metal fences. And Fieldwork is right around the corner. It was packed on a Friday night with a line that went by pretty fast. There were seatings on the outdoor patio and on the side of the building. The patio is surrounded by lush greens and flowers, people sit on these picnic benches while being socially distanced, oh and warm cozy string lights hanging across the sky. We were first seated on the side of the building with a table that is made of a barrel. The group next to us were having a birthday celebration. We enjoyed the beers while looking out to the quiet street and the sky with stars. The server later came to ask if we want to switch to the patio seating and we were very excited. The patio seating was even better! Servers are all so friendly. My Aloha sour beer tasted very fresh and fragrant. And I heard they have the best IPAs. I am looking forward to coming back here soon or visiting their other locations in the bay. read more

Have been going to various Fieldwork locations around the bay for a while, but it was our first time coming to this one. They were having a chocolate and stout tasting event around Valentine's time, and stout beers are our favorite. We tried generous pours of the Tres Commas, Good Conduct, Stave New World, and Viking's Lament, alongside chocolate from a local place called TCHO. We had a member of the brewery team and someone from the chocolatery who gave us really interesting insight, and they were extremely friendly and contributed to a great experience. Always fun, most of the time there's a good crowd. Love their parfait sours when they have it. My favorite is blackberry and blueberry parfait. Their IPAs are hit or miss for me. The other sours can be interesting, like the watermelon one. Even though it gets busy, ample seating inside. Nice to sit outside on a clear day as well. Kids and dogs welcome. But they even have fieldwork wine and quality non-alcoholic bevs for those who tag along with their beer-loving pals. In the past, I've enjoyed their good, but sparse, snack options (like chips and dips) but they've stepped up their food game. More snacks, sandwiches, and a food truck parked out front with table service after ordering with the QR code. I easily reserved a long table for a bday party online so we were assured a spot to sit together. Servers are helpful and efficient with bringing drinks and food, or taking away empties. Beer bartenders are helpful and friendly. The inside is nice for when it's cold but I like the outside Biergarten area on the odd warm day/evening. Additional tables are open along the side of the building. Well-behaved dogs and kids are welcome. Warning: don't leave ANYTHING in your car that might temp someone to break your window. Outdoor seating has returned to Fieldwork! It's been back for a couple of months, or close to that time frame. Definitely plan ahead and make reservations. Especially on the weekend and since the weather seems to be getting nicer. Tons of beer styles. They do have bites to offer and have to have a meal purchase with your order. Chicken, pork belly and vegetarian sandwiches. We had the chicken and pork belly. Quite tasty!If you're not hungry, they offer frozen pizzas for you to take home. If I didn't have such horribly terrible service, I would have given Fieldwork 4/5. Unfortunately, when a bartender decides to yell inappropriate parenting comments across the room at two patrons who are having a generally good time, I just can't bring myself to support the establishment anymore. Not kid friendly. I've been going to Fieldwork for 10 years and they have great beer, but I've been pushed over the edge by 3 recent incidents that never happen at other breweries in the area. The staff is consistently irritable about standard kid behavior like toddlers running around. Most recently, I told my antsy 2 year old son he could help me put the to-go beers I bought in a bag and they flipped out, said it was illegal, and acted like he was going to open them and drink them right in front of us. He can't even open a door. If you make a brewery a place parents can't go, you cut out 1/3 of your customers. Others on Yelp have made similar comments. Glad that Cellarmaker, Great Notion, and Humble Sea have opened in the area because they embrace families and I've had zero issues. read more
