Had a very nice experience with Noel. My wife wants to learn how to play the piano and I want to give her every opportunity. I hated the idea of her trying to learn on a small electric keyboard but also hated the idea of spending thousands and thousands of dollars only to have her not like it. So, we ended up renting a grand piano for a year. To rent a beautiful full-size grand piano and to have it delivered to your home and hold upstairs and set up cost less money than a decent electric keyboard. These guys have everything from used pianos to six-figure Steinways. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe Noel is the manager. I attended an event here hosted by a third party. All the staff members I encountered were really open and friendly. Most, if not all, the pianos in the showroom, were available to try out. Steinway pianos really are beautifully crafted with lots of attention to detail. Of course that comes at a hefty price, some as high as $200K! The exciting part is that Steinway is now making more "modern" looking pianos with different pops of color. The upstairs is a nice space for recitals. The event I attended included a 45 minutes recital by Vijay Venkatesh and 2 piano unveiling! I think you can rent their open areas for events. The other cool fact about Fields Pianos Home of Steinway is that it's family-owned and operated since the 1950s! Currently, I believe Michelle, the granddaughter, is the one operating the store. Field's is a veritable jackpot for piano crackpots like me. The recital facility upstairs is especially grand, as is the concert-ready Steinway they allow teachers and students to perform on. I recommend booking recitals months in advance, as this venue is highly sought-after due to lack of rental fee. I have had a 101% positive experience here since I began a working relationship with Jonathan Dickinson about 18 months ago. He and Field's have been so gracious and generous with their time and assistance. They are merchants in our niche trade, and ambassadors to our community. I am both an educator and eternal student; as such, I love Field's Pianos because they are an endless resource for education, edification, entertainment and instruments! To be brutally candid: Back when I was a piano student back in the 90s, my teacher held her recitals at Fields, and yet warned me to never buy a piano there. By all accounts, Field's had a less-than-stupendous reputation. By the recommendation of another music school owner, I looked them back up about two years ago. I decided to give it a whirl, having little to lose given the $0 price tag. Boy, am I happy I did! I have hosted over half a dozen recitals at Field's, all with Jonathan's event-planning acumen and attention to detail. We purchased a Steinway from Fields, due to COVID19 we were unable to actually play the piano and had a friend of ours assess the piano. A First Class experience from the moment we walked in the door to final delivery just 4-days later. Before the Steinway encounter though, we did some research and we visited another family owned piano store in Tustin and that was like walking into a retail TV store. Sales people bouncing from one customer to another all mostly speaking Chinese or Korean and not staying with one customer long enough to complete a sentence never mind taking the time to present the brands and the only one we recognized was YAMAHA...after about 30 minutes strolling the isles of pianos and being solicited by no less than three different sales people we decided to move on. Overwhelmed we decided to take a look at Fields and I have to tell you Steinway makes more than just Pianos, they create an atmosphere, a presence...you can feel it when you walk in the door. We were greeted by Derry, a consummate professional, extremely knowledgeable not only about the differences and nuances of each of the brands Fields offers but also how to disarm a customer and become a trusted advisor. Derry took us on a grand tour of the showroom answered very thoroughly and comprehensively every question we came up with. Every obstacle to the sale melted away. Derry helped us achieve our dream by giving us the courage to reach for the top shelf without questioning it. i'm a big fan of this store. I own a music education company and we use this facility for all of our recitals. The recital hall is located on the 2nd floor and it looks great. There's 2 pianos to choose from, and we always choose the Steinway grand that's on there. It's always tuned right, and there's a good 100 person capacity for it. You do have to book well in advance because the bookings do fill up. If there is one small thing I wished the store had was an elevator for those who cannot walk up the stairs (might be an ADA issue). Great place nonetheless. I know Len, Esther, and the whole gang - they have great service for their pianos, which is the main reason to come. What a selection of beautiful instruments! It's not the cheapest around but you get what you pay for from what I've seen. If I have enough money and room for it, I'll get an extra piano from these guys. I had a great experience at Fields Pianos! They held a special liquidation sale a few weekends ago, and it was the perfect opportunity for me to check out some pianos since I am a teacher, and was in need of one (I rented pianos for the last few years, figured it was time to buy one). Since we were coming all the way from San Diego, we had trouble getting to the store on time for our appointment, but with a quick phone call to the store, they were really nice and understanding about it. Michelle G. was our salesperson that day, and she was great. She was very welcoming, knowledgeable, and understanding of my budget. What I really appreciated was that after showing me around, she allowed me to explore all the pianos on the floor by myself, and did not pressure me at all during the two or so hours we were there. Occasionally, she'd come find me and check if I had any questions. Most of my experiences at other piano stores were nerve wracking and irritating, because the sales associate would constantly be watching my every move, and pressuring me to buy without listening to my needs. I will be sure to refer my friends or family to Michelle if they are looking for a piano in the OC area. I have seen this place off the freeway for years and never stepped in and decided to today after putting in my Etta James Cd and I thought to myself this is it, even though I'm not a piano player, I dabble and have some understanding and decided I'm taking the steps to getting a piano. I came in with the intent of learning and asking some questions, I play guitar and an avid fan of scales and modes and was doing my best to apply to piano theory. I walk and it's like a sports car dealership, all the pianos are beautiful and I was a kid in the candy store. The salesperson, who never gave me his so something inside didn't made me not give my name, so no real connection from the start and I felt coldness like unwelcome in someone's home. I asked if it was ok to come in and try out some pianos and told him my budget and was transparent and told him I've casual shopped around for pianos online, even mentioned craigslist and using my musically half trained ears there was whininess and sharp tones to his voice on not buying of craigslist which is a fair opinion and he politely allowed me to play some pianos. As I was playing one he came over and asked if I had any questions and I said yes, I was confused on the weight and action on the different piano keys, I asked if certain brands are known for different qualities such as tone woods, holding tune, strings used, white the key woods were made of? The top of white keys made of, i was trying to apply my knowledge of guitars to pianos such as the differences between say a Martin, Taylor, Gibson, Yamaha, Mitchell, etc. Woods redwood, ebony, mahogahney, etc. La Manet vs solid woods. The sales person became frustrated and whiny and made my questions seem unwelcome and he was even aggressive in his annoyance with me, I politely told him I was unfamiliar with the properties in the piano in terms of what controls the feel and action on the piano keys, why when I hit certain notes on different pianos and on different keys there was buzz in different parts of the piano like fret buzz, again no answer, just simply every piano is different and I have to try it out, again in a annoyed voice and aggressive manner. I was just trying to learn and build a relationship with the sales person and store to eventually build trust and buy a piano, the same person that warned me to not buy a piano on Craigslist wasn't willing to answer some questions and build trust so I would put my trust into buying a piano with no problems. Plenty of times I've bought guitars on craigslist where the seller was so knowledgeable about their instrument that it made me feel comfortable and happy that it had a happy owner and when I picked up those guitars and played it I felt it and what I played on those guitars sounded beautiful to me. When I play the digital keyboards at Guitar Center I feel like my music is magic because the people that work there are so open and welcoming and passionate. Here all these expensive even 6 figure pianos felt so cold to me. I didn't like what I was playing and they all sounded terrible to me, I could not develop and melodies, no feel for chords or chord voicing, just felt like I was not welcome. It is a shame maybe because I am ignorant and don't know much about pianos, but I came in with an open mind and intent to buy and it's a shame this place was represented in the way it was to my eyes and hopefully it's only a reflection on this store and not the piano community. However I did have one other experience in Greenwhich, CT, where I went into the Steinway & Sons Piano store and the Salesperson was amazing. I asked her if I could just come in and play and I wasn't really looking to buy and she said of course, let me played , and on my way out she even thanked me and said I played beautifully and gave me her business card if I was ever interested in coming back, great customer service. So it's a shame my experience here was so cold and unwelcoming. However they do have beautiful pianos and I was allowed to play the pianos and I have no idea about the pricing but I with they had more information on the pianos, such as type of wood, strings, keys, etc, just more information. It basically just says model, year, price. Maybe this is standard? I can't remember about CT because I wasn't even looking at the prices. Makes me kinda want to learn and sale pianos on the floor and just get to know the person, and match them with the right piano for the players needs, to me it's like dating and finding a partner to make beautiful music with. What kind of piano is better for jazz and blues, classical, chords, scales? Jack of all trades? Does it apply. What brands are known for fast and slick keys and what other are known for brute force and thunder crashing up and down? Size and shape affect vibrations? I don't know but I want to learn! read more

We purchased a new Knabe baby grand from Fields Pianos in 2007. Over the years we have been very happy with our piano. July, 2013 we were having the piano tuned only to learn that the action brackets were defective. We contacted Fields Piano to inquire as to how we should proceed. Initially, there was a warranty issue. Apparently Knabe was sold and the new owners were not honoring the warranty. We were livid.
