I am a professional pianist and composer and was in the market for my "forever piano." However, after three months of looking all over the country for my dream piano, I encountered unscrupulous piano salesman who would tell me a piano was 3 years old, but then, when I checked its serial number, it was really 23 years old. Frustrated and depressed, I was just about ready to give up my search when I stumbled upon Kim's Piano in California. From the very beginning, everyone I was introduced to was gracious, friendly, honest and extremely helpful in my search. The trio of Mr. Kim, Steve Rivera and Kristina put me at ease and assured me that they would find me my "forever piano." Since I live in New Mexico and they are in California, they sent me videos of multiple instruments and bent over backwards to get me a price that was within my budget. After a few weeks, I started working primarily with Steve Rivera, an excellent pianist and composer in his own right. He and I hit it off as we had so many things in common. In the end, he found me my piano for life; a Shigeru Kawai SK-3, 6'2" dream instrument. I flew out to Longbeach, CA and played the piano, met Steve in person, as well as MPA (Master Piano Artisan) Don Mannino who assessed the piano for me before I flew out to play the instrument. Boston Baby Grand Piano - SOLD! With the decision to move out of California, the overhead of moving my baby grand piano was too much additional stress and I decided to sell it. I spoke with three different companies and it was a very easy decision to work with Benjamin at Kim's Piano. As soon as I walked in, the staff was quick to assist me which was nice. However, after taking a look around, I noticed that their selection of pianos was very limited. I was informed that they only carry Kawai brand pianos, which was not exactly what I had in mind. When I told the gentleman I would prefer another brand, he quickly mentioned I should go to Costco instead and rushed me out of the shop. While price point wasn't an issue for me, I just happened to already know what I was looking for, so I felt a little judged. If you're an advanced concert piano player, you might be interested in the sale he was having, but otherwise I would recommend Jim's Music for a wider selection. read more

We just had our piano tuned by Peter Kim of Kim's Piano. The original estimate was $100 which was fine. It was estimated that this would take 1 hour. When Mr. Kim arrived he indicated that our piano had not been tuned for a while and it needed a double tune. Not being experts on the matter we took him at his word. He went through a long explanation and also indicated that the double tune would take at least 1.5 hours and would cost $200. So Mr. Kim showed up at 3:00 PM and was ready to leave before 4:00 PM. Amazing is it not. He did 1.5 hours of work in 1 hour. As he was ready to leave I asked if he did everything he promised. He said our piano was a good one and that is why he got done so fast. So hold on an hour ago it was bad piano and now it is good. He knew I was mad and offered a $20 discount. I tell you all this and would highly recommend that you NOT bring Mr. Kim of Kim's Piano to tune your piano. I just feel like we got taken advantage of because we are trusting. On top of that he asked that the check be made out to his name which means that he will not report it as business income and it will be a cash call. If I could give a zero star I would.
