Okay, my friends said that I may be a little biased because I was in a hurry BUT bad/slow service is unacceptable. I went with 2 friends and we ordered the fries and hummus and shared. I explained to the waiter that we were in a hurry and she said okay. However, over the course of our meal, we had 3 different waiters, our bill was not collected and I pretty much had to flag down the bartender to pay the bill. Okay so I used to come here for cheap drinks on random nights but... Cheap no more... AND the menu said "nacho with the works" but you have to pay $3 for guac. Who doesn't serve nachos with guac????? Especially "nachos with the works," Oh and the "side of guac?" it's about a tablespoon! no joke it comes in one of those tiny metal condiment bowl/dish things you would normally get ketchup in. literally a tablespoon. The nachos tasted okay, chips were a little stale but everything else tasted good even the $3 tablespoon of guac but sooooooo NOT worth it. Too many better options in the area with wayyyyyyyy better food for cheaper. I enjoyed my time at Fiddlesticks, which might be surprising considering the many reviews about how UNenjoyable it is. But we went here for a late Thursday night dinner, around 9:30. Believe it or not, the place was almost deserted upon arrival, both the bar and dining area. We had our pick of seating (and chose one of the cozy tables in the windows), and watched as the bar filled with what seemed like an annoying crowd as the night went on. The food was good, but not the greatest. I had mac and cheese ($9), which was listed as an appetizer but was more than enough food for me. It was flavorful but I'm not running back to have it again. My friend ate the shepherd's pie ($13). I had a bite, nothing special, and he said his old college housemate made a better one. As for beer, the pints were small and not priced for their size, but they had Franziskaner on tap so that's an automatic plus in my books. When my friend went to order something from the bottled beer selection, the server told us to "ignore the bottom half" (and mostly international) part of the list because they had it for the World Cup games, but no longer. It irks me that a place wouldn't print new beer menus. I can't imagine that a few pieces of paper and some printer ink would cost THAT much time, money, or effort. Another annoying thing was our table... it was made out of heavy wooden slats that were slanted. When the waiter put our beers down, I was afraid there'd be some serious spillage of the precious, over-priced liquid. Luckily neither of our things spilled, but it made for some awkward placements. Went to Fiddlesticks for Friday happy hour. I have no serious complaints. Happy hour doesn't exist puritanical Massachusetts, so I'll take a discounted beer ($4 drafts!) when i can get it. It's your standard pub fare - so you really can't go wrong with some wings and a chicken quesadilla. They had a decent beer selection. There is outdoor seating, which is especially nice - quite a few tables inside and plenty of seats at the bar. My only issue was the waitress. She was pleasant enough - but apparently she didn't understand the whole "if I make doe eyes at you it means I want something." Oh no. Even my most dreaded "Uh...excuse me?" went unnoticed! It got to the point where the beer was gone, the food was eaten and left for dead and our lady was no where to be found. Regardless, Fiddlesticks served it's purpose and there's not much more to be expected. read more

Loved getting brunch here. Came here on a beautiful fall Sunday morning to get brunch and ordered the sirloin burger and the Irish breakfast, both of which come with 2 complimentary alcoholic drinks. Choices include bloody mary's, white wine, red wine, mimosa, bud light. From the second we walked in we were taken care of; we were given our choice of seating and our waitress was attentive and addressed every need without being overly "around." This is the first time that my s.o. has actually found a place that serves dark pudding the way he fell in love with it in Dublin. My burger was delish though for once I wish there were a middle ground between medium rare and medium. The waitress had no problem allowing us to sit there, enjoy the sunny day, sip our drinks, and enjoy our food. There was no rush and everything was done with a smile. I'll definitely be coming back and next time it's onto the steak and eggs! Or the fish and chips... so many to choose from! (btw most brunch specials are $10, only Irish breakfast & the steak and eggs are $12). Yum! read more

I dont understand why people are having such a problem with this place. I came here on a Friday night and met a group of friends a few weeks ago and we had a good time. We read the reviews before we came and saw all the negative feedback from people about crowds, drink prices, just a mediocre place, etc. I think this is your typical neighborhood bar, kind of a mix between that dive bar atmosphere early on in the night to a hopping mid 20s-30s place by about 11pm. We had no problem finding a spot at the bar, drink prices were your average price for NYC and the crowds were fine. I can see how on some other nights (maybe when its nicer out) that more people will be there and it might get crowded, but we lucked out. I would recommend this as a good starting point if you were meeting a group of friends for some drinks and didn't want to be in the loudest place on Earth, by about 10-11pm, I would move on to another bar if your intentions are to relax and chat. But if you like the loud music and socializing with NYC randoms in the West Village, come check it out. Bathrooms are nice too. read more

Fiddlesticks doesn't look like your standard bar, it has interesting features like archways and separate seating areas that create great little nooks and corners to get cozy in with your crew. And get cozy we did! My group and I crammed in a corner table where we could actually see each other and hear each other talk, and enjoyed some of the many beers on tap before continuing on our bar-hopping way. I'd suggest coming with a few friends or a 3rd date, but bigger groups will probably be more trouble than they're worth. read more

Visited Fiddlesticks while on a weekend trip to NYC from Philly. Seemed like a very average Irish pub in NYC. Drink prices seemed on par with prices at nearby places (however very elevated from the prices I'm used to in Philly). The crowd could be described as early to mid-twenties and it seemed that it was mostly groups of friends out for girls/guys night outs. I wanted to give it to two stars, but I pumped it up a star because they offer outdoor seating, which was awesome because the bar area was ridiculously hot. And I'm not talking about gorgeous people hot. I'm talking about sweating off five pounds hot. Overall, I would visit Fiddlesticks again if I'm in the neighborhood and looking to get a few drinks with a group of friends. read more

Nice beer selection. Nice staff. Went on Friday night and it wasn't terribly busy. It's noisy and vibey at the bar, but if you nip around the corner you can find cosier tables. They also have an outdoor seating area. We actually found this place after checking out a few of the other "dive bars" in the Village. A lot of the other bars we absolutely HEAVING with people (mostly college age) and there was not a chance you would get a seat or spend less than 30 mins trying to get a drink. Certainly some of the cheapest happy hour drinks in this hood ($4 draft beers until 8). Note the "until 8" part -- since most places end at 7. Decent selection of draft beers that are happy hour qualified. The atmosphere is unique. The tables are super uncomfortable. If you're any taller than, say, 5'10", your knees will be wanting to shatter again the strange boards that stop you from being able to get your legs under the table. The music is approaching "Douchey Level I". The service is unique. Solid, but quirky. The food. The nachos are quite good. You should get those (preferable with the "pulled chicken"). The mac and cheese is decent, but at $14, you might want to reconsider (way too pricey for what it is). Moral: go for happy hour beer.....and probably you should maybe get some nachos. read more

Such a fun bar but the bartenders are AWFUL!!!! One of the bartenders dropped an entire tray of drinks on me.... glass was everywhere and I was completely soaked. I said something to another bartender thinking maybe he'd apologize for his friend considering the bartender who spilt the tray on me ran off but no, he laughed in my face. This place is simply terrific. If I could give 6 stars, I would. Where to start... the "Jameson sauce" is so good they should put shots of it on their happy hour menu. The bangers and mash and Shepard's Pie will make you forget what a calorie even is. Literally all staff- awesome. There's one girl there I think her name is Lynn but idk.. total smoke show. If your lucky enough to get her be ready for a delightful meal with terrific service! But also be ready to hate your hair and skin and thighs forever. She's perfect and you'll probably buy a gym membership after meeting her (I did) Oh and the Asian bartender is honestly a ray of sunshine. Definitely recommend, 6/5 starts all the way! read more

To be honest, the only reason I went to Fiddlesticks in the first place was because of the name. Fiddlesticks. Fiddlesticks! How fun is that? Well, that amusement ran out REAL quick when I actually got into the bar. It's packed and let me tell you, it is quite a sausage fest. That's not necessairily a bad thing for the ladies but winding through the crowd is near impossible without getting cat-called and getting all sorts of alcohol spilled on you. I will say that I had fun starting random, alcohol-fused dance parties here but that usually never starts until at LEAST 3am. The bartenders really vary; I've had great ones and ones that could have given a rats ass that I had been standing at the bar for 20 minutes, waiting for a Bud Light. Hmm. I will also say that if you're looking for beautiful people....Fiddlesticks has them. I have yet to see an unattractive bunch here (even if a majority of them are guys). This makes me feel only slightly awkward when dancing to Madonna's "Lucky Star" in the wee hours of the morning. But do I start to care less and less as I sway to the music? You bet. read more

Really great time with my son here on Sunday afternoon when we stopped in for brunch. But, if I'm here to review the pub as a whole, it missed the mark. What makes it even worse is that their website advertizes a 10-15 dollar brunch with 2 drinks ie: bloodys, wine, screwdrivers, bud, but that's not what we were offered or paid. We also waited 50 minutes for our burger and omelet. The burger was really good but the fried egg on top was not.The omelet was pretty good but the side of hash browns was awful. Our server was pretty green but he was very nice. They had the game playing on TV which made my son happy so that was a plus. It's a very old place which I imagine has lots of history and because I was with good company I didn't sweat the small stuff. But I wouldn't return for a meal. Not ever. read more

Went with a large group of mostly hungover, headachy friends for a Saturday brunch and had the deal where you get 2 drinks + a selection from a brunch menu. I heard a few complaints about undercooked egg around the table but no complaints about the mimosas (which were mostly champagne) or the bloody marys (I had two of these). My own smoked salmon omelette was ok, about what I'd expect from a Irish Pub. The music selection was terrible and although the service started off well it quickly got spotty which was strange considering when we arrived there was not another single patron in the place. The beer selection overall seemed pretty good so I'd probably be open to coming back for a brew at night - standing up. The stools they have aren't too comfortable. read more

I actually came here by accident (you'll notice in a few of my reviews, I meant to go somewhere else). The first (and only time so far) that I went here, my friends from work and I decided to hang out and also our friend who went to California for school was in town, so we wanted to hang with him too. Given the responsibility of choosing a location, I already knew I wanted to go into the West Village, or somewhere near there. Then I remembered, there was a bar on Greenwich Ave that I wanted to go to for a while, but never did. And I thought it was Fiddlesticks-- i was a block off. Anyway, this was where I suggested and we met up at like 8:30. Wasn't crowded, the drinks were good and we eventually grabbed the sofas in the back, behind the pool table. We had waitress service, we had a good time joking about the S&M paraphernalia (which was really just horse-stable equipment...) and it was a good time. But being in the back and not actually going to the bar, we didn't realize by 10:30 the place had filled up real fast. What was an easy route to the restroom earlier turned into a crazy maze of college kids. But we managed. And nobody else seemed to venture into our area, like it was roped off or something. Can't talk about the food or prices since I've only come here for organized happy hours, but both times I've been here I've had a good time. Large space so it doesn't get too crowded, even during peak drinkin' hours. Friendly staff and lots of beers on tap. Bonus points for being near the PATH. I really do like this place, and I normally don't like hanging out in the village. The crowd is pretty friendly, there's definitely a lot of space. And the pool table area looks like the set of Saw. I'm not sure why Fiddlesticks has so many bad reviews. I came here for brunch on a Sunday with my friend when Gottino was too full to seat us. I ordered the salmon omelet with capers and my friend ordered the burger and fries. Both were delicious. I didn't really care for the bloody marys but the mimosas were yummy. We sat outside and when it became sunny, we were given sunscreen. Waitress was really sweet and attentive. We had a couple with a dog sitting next to us and it was really adorable, so overall, good experience. read more

We were sitting at a table for six and it was probably the least comfortable furniture I have ever sat at in my entire life. The table was extremely low and had a big piece of wood right where everyone's knees go, so it was impossible to put your legs under the table. There was a shadow box right at head level on the wall behind us, so I whacked my head on that when I sat down. And the bench was extremely narrow. This made the entire experience unpleasant, despite the fact that my burger was actually pretty good. Service was OK - no complaints about splitting a bill for each individual. $4 beers and well drinks all day Sunday is pretty good, too. read more

Do you want to feel like you are back in college? Or how about reliving your early 20s? Come to Fiddlesticks. This is a huge bar with average priced drinks, and a very young crowd. It is decorated with garland and twinkle lights, which makes it feel as if it is the holiday season. Half the people in this bar are either 21 or using fake IDs to get in here. They play top 40 hits and other techno songs. The bar is packed and chances are you will be vying for a space. This place is a great place to stumble into on a drunken night. It is also fun if you want to feel youthful for the night, but I would not recommend it otherwise. I have been here twice and I have had fun, but really this bar is nothing special. read more

Was here on a Wednesday for a post-sandy Charity event. The drink specials were great! Suggestion, it would be nice if they could include a few cold-weather alcoholic favorites to their offerings, i.e. Hot Toddy, spiked warm apple cider, etc. I ordered the fish & chips, since I'm partial to chips. On the menu they offer Jameson sauce or curry sauce for the chips, I tried both... liked the Jameson sauce better. It goes well with the fish, too, but fried fish is just typical bar food. Nothing to write about. People in my group ordered the burger... $15 and it comes with an egg on top. It looked and smelled good, I should have ordered that instead since they all enjoyed it. This is a good happy-hour spot, great for gatherings with friends. But not so much for a romantic date. read more

Nice bar. We came here on a Thursday night at about 9:30 and it was pretty tame. Word is it can get a little wild on the weekends. My single friends were please by the favorable girl to guy ratio. I came to this place with a mediums size group, about 7 of us. It was around 9:30 and this place was packed! We trolled around for 30mins and finally found a table. For whatever reason, the 2nd bar, closed to our table wasn't open yet. And the line at the main bar was insane. We chilled out and waiting for waitress service, it took about another 15/25 minutes. Once she was with us, she was flawless and on her game. She was running around so much, we begged her to sit. As usually the prices were Manhattan high, so we drank for hours and paid a pretty penny. The layout of this place is strange. Most of the table space is on one far side, leaving the bathroom on the far opposite side (down a hallway and up the stairs). The trek to the bathroom got considerably longer once you packed the place with people. To sum it up, its too loud and too crowded. But if your in the mood to be jostled, check it out, fun will be had. read more

Hands down one of the best bars in the area and Sarah is one of the best bartenders I've had in a while too. The drinks are a great price and the place is the kind of joint that you wish you had opened up with your friends. Fiddlesticks is a popular after work destination for my office. We are located in Jersey City, so with it being a short walk from the 9th street path stop we always seem to find ourselves here. It's what you would expect, kind of divey with a pool table in the back, stick floors if you stay to long, and tables for people who want to sit in the back and enjoy the crowd. I personally like it here, it's low key and we always have a good time. Plus, they have good spinach & artichoke dip which i always find myself ordering after 4+ beers. A good after work location but it does get super crowded as the night goes on, so get there early for a spot at the bar! read more

I think it cost them $500 dollars in beer and food to win the keg, but still, not a bad return on investment. Drink beer, answer fun questions - and win more beer! Also - they have a DJ who plays mostly pop. The pub can get crowded on weekends, but it's fun. read more
