Best & freshest salads in State College! Big, delicious salads that can easily provide 2 meals. The size of the salads often varies according to the tosser- the experienced ones give measured, generous salads - great! The inexperienced tossers, often don't measure right. The soups are far more disappointing. More often than not, they are not complex, delicious, & seasonal. I had the broccoli cheddar 2 days ago & I threw it away! Though Fiddlehead encourages creativity and adventure with your salad, the fun is limited when you have to narrow down your choice of toppings to only four, especially when you have to pay 50 cents per extra topping that most likely costs 2 cents per serving size. And paying $2 extra for chicken that is one step above plastic is rather offensive. Really disappointed. I was excited to try Fiddlehead due to the mostly good reviews, but I wish I saved my money. I went on 10/29/17 at around 11:15am. There was only one soup of the day-I thought it was more of a soup place so I expected at least a little bit of a variety. When I walked in the door, not one person made eye contact or said anything to me. I had to initiate the conversation by saying hello only to get a "what do you want" in return. I was taken back. The only reason I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 was because the chicken noodle soup I had was decent, still not worth the $7 I paid for it. read more

I've went to Fiddlehead twice - once for a salad and once for soup and bread. While the salads are tasty (I got the Backyard BBQ), it is definitely not worth the price ($9.95). I could go to a sit down restaurant and get a salad for close to that price with a warm protein. As for the soup: I was really looking forward to getting the Chicken Corn Chowder. The definition of a chowder says that it's a THICK soup, which is what I was expecting as it did not say Manhattan style. What I got was a bowl of watery unflavored broth, severely bland chicken, and some veggies. It was lacking in flavor and I was severely underwhelmed. After this experience, I will not be returning as I could make a more flavorful soup myself. read more

Just nearly finished what would have been a delicious salad here and suddenly noticed a FLY in it. I immediately informed the staff and it took a few flustered girls before the manager identified himself. After showing him the evidence he admitted that they've been having issues with their lettuce distributor. Knowing that this isn't the first case of fly in their food one would expect the use of a new distributor. In any case upon getting my refund and declining a new salad, I mentioned that this is completely unacceptable, to which he responded, "Unfortunately, it happens". Ok, so eat at your own risk, I suppose! Such a shame because it was a great salad but the lack of concern and initiative would never allow me to return. read more

You can't beat a Fiddlehead salad. They are jam-packed full of fresh lettuce and other ingredients. I almost always get the Backyard BBQ, which is super filling, but what makes it so good is their dressing. Now, I'm not a dressing person. I never eat dressing anywhere. But Fiddlehead, I MUST always get the Avocado Lime dressing - it's delicious! I've tried to find a replacement so that I can have it at home, but nothing comes close. While it's a $10 salad, you can easily make it into 2 meals. Totally worth it! read more

Organic choices and Local suppliers, what more could you ask for? The inside seating is limited so takeout is your best bet. The Salad helpings are perfect to fill you up and keep you going. The wraps are really pricey, more than $7. And the soup isn't that great either. I ordered corn chowder soup (the ONLY vegetarian soup they had) and it tasted like oil. They give you huge portions, which is great considering you are paying $6-8 or more for just a salad. I honestly never had a problem with them before, but my last trip there sent me running to the bathroom. My goodness...I have never gotten sick from a simple salad before! I literally only had ginger ale and an orange for breakfast so I know it was not that. Then all of a sudden, a few hours after picking up a salad for lunch, my bowels were angry! I've lunched at Fiddlehead three times since it opened, the first time with great skepticism since I expected it to be overpriced and underwhelming. The salads are a bit pricy for me, partially why I have yet to try one (sorry) but their ingredients look fresh and appetizing. In my opinion Fiddlehead's greatest strength is its soups. An 8 ounce bowl is a very reasonable 3.50, with vegan/vegetarian options always avaliable (the Roasted Vegatable was excellent). Their soup menu seems to change daily, which is perfect for adventurous eaters, and customers are almost garunteed to find a soup they like depending on the day. The place is cozy, but smart looking with speedy service; greatly appreciated when pressed for time between classes! One complaint concerning the soup is that it seems to go cold fairy quickly, though that may just be me or perhaps the type of bowl? Either way will continue to patronize Fiddlehead for their tasty affordable soup and, eventually, salad. read more
